LD54 — Limited Space

roadtrip by caryoscelus 2023-10-02T17:17:02Z

Cool stuff. I enjoyed taking those hitchhikers and dropping them off at the nearest gas station. My only complaint is that the music is way too loud. I think this could be an epic relaxing game with some lower and calmer music.

RatTrap by JCMonkey 2023-10-03T12:09:45Z

The game is quite moody and the concept is neat. But I do agree with others that the fake keys are way too many in each region. And I know each region has one valid key so if you open a gate with one you can ignore the rest in that area but still, the later areas seemed way too big with too many keys. In the areas with carts going through you can just follow one or safely navigate your way in the dark, but the graveyard with spikes along the corridor was too annoying.

I managed to unlock all doors except the last one on the left:

justno.jpeg

Then stepped on a spike in the top left area with my 1 hp  . I would have loved to get all the coins and see the epic win screen. I think it would be better if when you die, you just drop what you are holding and teleport to the start area instead of restarting all over. Cool concept though and the art style is very nice. Nice work!

Boxed Boxes by jebouin 2023-10-02T10:20:52Z

Amazing stuff. Very clever concept and level design. I finished all the maps and had lots of fun figuring out how to solve the different puzzles.

Level 4 was the longest it took to solve because I didn't realize at first that you could just let the grey box hold the white dashed one and then stand on the white one off the edge. I was trying to drop the grey one right in the middle the whole time. After figuring that part out all the next levels were straightforward.

Level 16 only bugs out if you try to have too much fun with all the boxes around you. You suddenly get stuck on some corners and some of the boxes glitch out/disappear.

Other than that everything is very well made and nicely put together. Very fun and unique game overall. Fantastic work!

You Are Beach Cop Sign by Phobos001 2023-10-02T04:45:09Z

Cool stuff. Fun game with an epic ending =D Quite good for your first PICO-8 and in compo as well. The smoke and blood particles look neat. Managed to beat it on the second try. Those speedy breakers are a bit hard to catch unless they get stuck at the edges. I think it would help if the catch range was just slightly bigger. Other than that the game is really enjoyable. Very nice work!

BoxBox by mao 2023-10-03T06:24:51Z

sort.jpeg

I only had 4 pieces left to complete that wave and couldn't find the one that should go out and I lost. Good stuff. Very interesting concept. I think it would be cool to have like an easy mode where the ones that are due to go out are highlighted so you can quickly tell if the box has something when you have 4 levels of nesting to unpack and check.

A fun and challenging game overall. Good job!

LD#54 - Meteor Shower - C64 by Endurion 2023-10-02T17:39:49Z

met.jpeg

Could not stop the barrages, but got a score of 750! Nice game. It is really hard to stop the meteors when they appear at the same time on both the far edges. Would be nice if the movement speed was a bit higher since currently you can't catch some of them even if you react fast when they show up. Good little game though and nice graphics as others already mentioned. Well done.

Depot Mania by Bernhard 2023-10-02T16:15:47Z

neat.jpeg

Finished the objective and played until I got a 444 score. Neat game. I liked the simple art on the boxes. So much chaos with grabbing and pushing the stuff around. I managed to get the start combo thingy for a couple of the items but then it got too crowded to properly line up the items. The gameplay was really enjoyable. Good stuff. Well done!

Limited Headspace by OadT 2023-10-02T15:02:31Z

Unique concept indeed. I spent quite some time on the final level and somehow managed to solve it after pushing things around for a bit =D. Good stuff. Experimenting with the different mechanics and solving all the puzzles was really fun. The art is also neat. Very nice work!

Get rid of the alien! by Jejkobb 2023-10-02T13:43:32Z

alien.jpeg

Fun game. The graphics are very nice and all the puzzles were easy and very enjoyable. I like how the alien squeaks when you throw a box at his face =D I do agree the sound effects are very well made. Good stuff. Very nice work!

AM4LGAM8 by Alis 2023-10-03T16:47:49Z

epic.jpeg

Good stuff. Luckily I didn't encounter any of the bugs others were mentioning and managed to get a decent score. It was fun playing this and I found the art style quite neat. Very nice work!

Grid Masters of the Galaxy by ETdoFresh 2023-10-03T15:06:02Z

Cool concept! Sometimes when you click on an object to drag it does not get grabbed properly the first time you click so you have to double click to grab it. Also, when an object arrives and you grab it, if it breaks before you place it the held blueprint will be stuck at your cursor, and if there is no place to click like in the second and third levels you will just sit there while new stuff break and lose. In the third or fourth level, the spawn speed became too fast, it was very hard to quickly place stuff with how wonky the grabbing is. It is a nice game nonetheless and could be lots of fun with a bit more polishing.

Squeeze & Wiggle by YogurtTheHorse 2023-10-05T17:39:27Z

Finally managed to beat this goosya guy, now I can rest in peace.

goos.png

Good game! Definitely one of the best! Super fun and polished. I enjoyed every bit of it! I have nothing more to add, people already described and mentioned everything awesome about this game. You guys did an excellent job! I will come back when the goose steal the record once again.

Squeeze & Wiggle by YogurtTheHorse 2023-10-08T04:25:30Z

@yogurtthehorse wait, I thought you guys already knew about the aerial dash/sling thingy? That is why there is an opening up there in the start area from where you keep dashing all the way around to the nest.

Squeeze & Wiggle by YogurtTheHorse 2023-10-08T05:36:32Z

@yogurtthehorse Ok here is a video showing how it is done:

https://streamable.com/t8mnz3

basically, when you have the two parts (the head and the next one) vertically aligned, you can keep pulling the other part upwards (better while it is fully greyed?) and that will somehow add lots of momentum to the head.

And yeah I almost had a new record (37 seconds) in that video but I flew past the nest lol. The hard part is landing at the nest after passing that peak and because of the solid color background, you can't accurately judge how fast you are flying.

Crampy Kitchen by BisnessPirate 2023-10-03T08:50:17Z

cook.jpeg

21 is the best I managed to get. Really fun. Some issues I found: - At the start of each game, this one piece can't be grabbed at all unless it is pushed over:

cant.png

- It would be better if the recycling area was way bigger than this so that I don't have to precisely grab and put the stuff inside the bin. Just throwing it out of the shelf to the floor should work and would make it easier to recycle:

rec.jpeg

- Having some way to know what is already cooking inside the pot would also be helpful since I tend to forget how much and what I already put in.

- After throwing stuff in the pot, they should just disapear instead of being actively colliding inside the pot and making those constant noises.

Good and enjoyable game overall. With a sprinkle of polish here and there this would be some epic stuff. Good job!

If I Fits, I Sits! by cheesepencil 2023-10-03T12:42:26Z

3471 score! Quite good I would say.

cat.jpeg

A simple yet very enjoyable game. Good stuff. I really appreciate the quick restart button. Very nice work!

Laser Grid by MasterProject 2023-10-02T11:50:53Z

lazers.jpeg

Good stuff. wave 46 is the farthest I could reach. While the timer seems to add a lot of challenge and tension to the gameplay, I kinda agree that it makes it too hard to fully enjoy the game. Some of the late levels end too fast I barely have time to think how I am going to solve it and for a lot of them, I was just randomly guessing what blocks should be activated. I think having two modes, one with a timer and one without would be cool if you plan to expand on the game.

The game is enjoyable overall and the concept is quite neat. Good job!

Moon Base Constructor by SeaM00se 2023-10-02T09:35:09Z

robots.jpeg

This game is super neat. Fun gameplay and very cool art style. I really like building stuff and managing resources. I managed to meet the goal and would have loved to play a lot more but there was a huge lag spike after I had like 6 pylons. Also I think that it would be nice if the mining building had a tip to what is being mined because you can't tell when you click on it unless you remember what the colors are referring to. Overall the game is very enjoyable and well made. Excellent work!

Transilvaniawkward by Mastoast 2023-10-02T17:00:11Z

picooo.jpeg

Very nice puzzle game! I rarely see pico games that are this polished. I like how the monsters get introduced first time with a simple level to demonstrate how they function. Would have loved a bigger ramp in difficulty near the end, but it was nice and fun being able to go through all of it with no issues. The art looks very neat and the gameplay was smooth and enjoyable overall. Good stuff. Nice work!

Disc Space by CaptAndrey 2023-10-03T14:49:40Z

Interesting stuff. The sound effects are 10/10 =D. I managed to win but it would be nice if I could see how well I performed. I think this could be expanded into a really cool game about efficiently storing data and stuff like that with more mechanics.

Musical Tunnels by Lakea 2023-10-02T04:03:35Z

Good game. I like the simple solid shapes. Rotating the level itself instead of the ship was a bit difficult at first, but managed to get used to it eventually. Got to the 4rth track. Can't beat it though, too hard for me =D

track.jpeg

The concept is cool. I think would be a lot more fun and easier if the possible rotation angles were lower. So instead of the current (10?), it would be something like 4 rotations. The many angles and the complex shape make it hard to judge how many times I have to quickly rotate to get to the right angle. Either that or just a longer distance between the stuff could also work maybe also with the ability to dash/fast forward if that turns out to be too long.

Very nice stuff overall. Good job!

Parking HELL by Vollfeiw 2023-10-02T12:28:29Z

cars.jpeg

10 minutes to beat all the levels is probably not the best. I took my time with the final level since it was so long and I couldn't afford to speed up in the corridors and risk crashing and restarting again.

The concept is cool and fits the limited space theme very well. I think it would be nice to have more of the short levels since they are very fun to play and easier to attempt again for a better score.

Good game and very neat graphics overall. Well done!

Cosmic Crossing Guard! by JDcierski 2023-10-03T15:55:39Z

guard.png

Good game. I just kept shoving everything quickly out of the nearest edge and reached 3050. And yeah the out of screen edge collisions are quite annoying. Actually having the objective be set to make the stuff collide and explode might be more fun than just pushing them away. Maybe because there is more feedback on collision than just moving out of the view. Good stuff though and fun little game. Nice work!

Bee Catcher by Jeremy Klassen 2023-10-02T05:21:31Z

bees.jpeg

143 bees were eaten. Very nice.

Good little game. Getting pulled around when catching bees adds a lot of challenge to the gameplay. The WASD movement feels too weak/not very responsive which makes it hard to move away from edges after getting pulled. Also the pulling seems inconsistent like you get pulled harder toward one direction than the other, probably has something to do with the initial velocity while holding the WASD keys. Other than that the art is nice, and good job on successfully submitting to compo while learning and using new tools that is definitely not an easy task! Well done!

Pixel Piles by Gabriel Chan 2023-10-03T09:26:46Z

blocks.jpeg

Cool concept indeed. Couldn't get any higher than 366 score. But really enjoyed this neat take on the classic Tetris. And yes I accidentally trapped myself a couple of times by placing blocks right on top while trying to beat my high score =D

A very nice and polished game with interesting mechanics. Good stuff. Very nice work!

Super Cube by Senso 2023-10-05T10:15:05Z

Super fun and addictive. Quite polished indeed. I do agree that it is sometimes very hard to see the main cube with all the particles, but you can always stop or slow down until the storm clears. I think it would be nice if there was also another button beside the mouse one that does the same action since pressing and holding the mouse button gets tedious after a while. Fantastic game nonetheless. Excellent work!

TetraPolis by PassbyKamenRider 2023-10-03T14:28:46Z

Last moment before my entire colony turned to ashes:

fun.jpeg

This game is pretty fun. A tetris combined with resource management/colony building is a unique concept and quite enjoyable. I found that the autofill tends to split workers evenly between mining and farming which lots of times makes you immediately lose due to low food, so I had to manually appoint lots of farmers, and then when I have a big food supply I toggle the autofill and it works well.

Very cool and fun stuff overall. Good job!

Circlash by nimbushead 2023-10-02T11:08:33Z

clear.jpeg

Cool game. I let all the others jump off the arena and now I am the last one remaining so I guess I won. I feel like it takes way too long for all the other players to finish their turns. I think it would be better if all the others immediately launched instead of pretending to aim like a human. Cool stuff though and the sound effects are 10/10 =D Good job!

TOBISHA by aerial 2023-10-02T14:03:50Z

@oadt Thanks for playing! Glad that you enjoyed the game!

Yeah the aliens/viruses don't really fit the other styles, even the other sprites (blocks, player) were not meant to be like that, that whole (defense scene) was a bit rushed. I was planning on making everything a bit noisy and affected by the lighting. I only managed to do that for the background and didn't have time for the others.

Regarding the greyed renters, those are meant to be like dead sectors on a real hard drive. So when they get destroyed, that part of the storage will be corrupted and you can't do anything about it, it just limits the limited space you have even more. Originally I was planning to have it so that you can see the health of each block and decide if you want to heal/eject it and stuff like that. But yeah I had to cut lots of features near the end of the submission.

Thanks again for playing and for the feedback!

TOBISHA by aerial 2023-10-03T04:47:15Z

Thanks everyone for playing!

@novicedevgames Yeah the defense scene is lacking a lot of things, and I couldn't implement a proper use of all the money gained like dump it on upgrades and other cool stuff.

Regarding the `src/winScene.js`, yes originally there was supposed to be a win condition where you have to buy something very expensive to beat the game 😁 but I didn't have time to set it up.

The tools I used are the ones mentioned above (Sounds with Labchirp | LMMS | Audiotonic, Graphics with GIMP), and the game is coded in js with the Phaser library and the offers/renters lists are just HTML elements with some CSS styling all plugged into Phaser.

TOBISHA by aerial 2023-10-12T14:23:38Z

@markais I reuploaded the video: https://streamable.com/t8mnz3 hope it helps. Good luck =D

People! Panic!!! by VideogameScrapbook 2023-10-03T10:43:23Z

That is a nice concept indeed. I do agree with the other poster that the sound should not get that loud. I like the helicopter taking off sound though lol. Room 22 is the furthest I could reach:

crowd.jpeg

Would be nice to be able to push others a bit because once they block your way like in this room you are done. You have to be lucky that they all go to the side. Cool game nonetheless. Good job!

Mini Architect by Mr Bluecap 2023-10-03T13:49:08Z

Neat concept. The game seems fun but it's a bit too hard. The timer runs out and you can barely fulfill a couple of requests. I think one thing that can improve the gameplay a lot is to not have the adding walls mechanic at all and make it so that you just need to place room blocks, and connected blocks count as one room. Other than that, the game is interesting and the art is really nice. Well done!

Gallery by Lettas 2023-10-02T07:56:06Z

Very cool concept. Trying to figure out the best shot angle is fun. I managed to complete all the rooms with no problem. The movement speed is indeed very slow but for a short game with small areas, it is not an issue. But in case you wanted to expand on the game with a lot more rooms and longer corridors I think it would be good to have a faster movement speed. Unless you are going for some kind of a spooky feel with dark areas and all that then the slowness would fit.

Cool game overall. Nice work!
