Interesting idea. Graphics appear polished for their simple style. I found the game quite fun, though it seems to lack music unfortunately?

it's a really neat concept! the puzzles are fun and satisfying to solve (even if easy enough)

i had issues with two levels. level 4 is very hard to do due to several factors: - inertia often making Rectangle to slip into the spikes after a jump - the time gap for jumping over the Square is very small so i often pushed it instead - positioning square over the spikes had to be very precise to be able to jump over level 16 i couldn't complete because the construct was constantly gluing itself to a wall (i'll post a video later)

Amazing stuff. Very clever concept and level design. I finished all the maps and had lots of fun figuring out how to solve the different puzzles.

Level 4 was the longest it took to solve because I didn't realize at first that you could just let the grey box hold the white dashed one and then stand on the white one off the edge. I was trying to drop the grey one right in the middle the whole time. After figuring that part out all the next levels were straightforward.

Level 16 only bugs out if you try to have too much fun with all the boxes around you. You suddenly get stuck on some corners and some of the boxes glitch out/disappear.

Other than that everything is very well made and nicely put together. Very fun and unique game overall. Fantastic work!

> I was trying to drop the grey one right in the middle the whole time. After figuring that part out all the next levels were straightforward.

wait, that was exactly what i did (and barely managed after countless attempts)

the proper solution is much more clever!

I'm in love with those transitions! Very cool concept, great game!

caryoscelus 2023-10-02 16:17

and here's me playing your game (amongst few others): https://tube.tchncs.de/w/93nYbi14oNnkhM2YrpBZD7 ! see 21:21 and onward for the glitch i mentioned

very interesting mechanic. levels are not really hard because the scene design gives clues about where what could fit. art is cool, simple and polished, and it's very pleasing to enter each new zone. the bugs are what they are, but most of the times a simple replay fix it so no problem! good job!

Thanks everyone for playing and leaving feedback!

@caryoscelus Sadly I only realized after the jam that level 4 was way too hard due to the "red herring" with the spikes. I should have removed the ground to make sure the player don't try to put the box there and maybe find a better introduction for the "standing on the dashed box" mechanic. Anyway thanks a lot for the recording, this will be very useful when I start working on the post-jam version!

kasmilus 2023-10-03 07:12

Brilliant idea, really clever use of the theme but I think the execution is lacking. Often I knew what I wanted to do but I had to try over and over because it required a lot of precision (e.g. the first level with spikes, trying to jump to the other side of the box without moving the dashed line was reeaally annoying). Art style is nice and animations are really cool, I wish there was music.

mrsamafu 2023-10-03 08:41

Excellent, the levels allow a perfect learning curve, and what's more... it's really fun :D

halvardo13 2023-10-03 16:06

Really good concept for a puzzle platformer, and nice use of the theme!

kiberptah 2023-10-03 16:48

What I liked:

- Fresh and unusual core mechanic which - Clever level design - Nice visuals and polish for a compo :)

What I didn’t like:

- Wall jumping wasn't taught before being a requirement for a pretty complex level. - There are some bugs, level 12 has long block disappearing if it fall on you, also level where you are "in the tank" is very buggy, I always stuck when landing on any corner... Had to restart like 10-15 time because of that.

Reaaly nice take with a unusual and cool take on the theme! Btw I get through all levels eventually, even though I think I cheesed a couple of them ;)

kinggurke 2023-10-04 07:33

I absolutely love it! Great concept, and you made it in such a short time. And the only bug I encountered was in the last level. It makes for a bittersweet ending, that that last box needed to reach the end just disappears :')

100th-coin 2023-10-04 16:55

Okay, first off, that's a really cool mechanic! You made some very solid levels for it too, which perfectly utilize this unique concept you made. Mad respect.

I think the level art could use some backgrounds and a little extra time put into decorations. I'll give the same note for the audio direction- some music would go a long way.

The natural progression as you add new features is really well done, and you got a perfect difficulty curve!

I recorded myself playing to provide extra feedback. Cheers!

Really a good game, the DA is very clean, there's really nothing to complain about, well done to you

cradac 2023-10-04 21:58

really well done game with a great idea!

jens-g 2023-10-04 22:16

Very well executed. I got stuck on level 16 though. Seems to be a bug where you freeze while jumping up the spike wall. Other than that a very enjoyable experience. A lot of fun and innovative mechanics to play around with.

t-c 2023-10-05 06:27

Super creative! Really like the idea of being tethered to things like how you did it. Found the mechanic of the zones intersecting a bit confusing, but managed to make it through the whole game anyways. I would have liked a better wall jump, it was very tough to control. But the levels were neat with a nice variety, and it was a great time. Good job!

game-dev-with-michael 2023-10-05 11:08

Nice game. I can see this being a full game with time and tweaking!

The way the container interacted with the box and player was really cool. Some clever room ideas too.

captaindreamcast 2023-10-05 22:43

Just awesome! So many creative levels based around that core idea. I loved every second of this, every level felt fresh and enjoyable. So many interlocking mechanics used creatively. Cool take on the theme, had a great time playing this, amazing compo game!

cheesepencil 2023-10-06 06:21

There were several "platformers with boundaries around them" games this round but this is the best "platformers with boundaries around them" game in the compo imho. I beat every level, some were tricky!!

knightgames 2023-10-07 13:22

This is so creative, I can never think of such creative mechanics. Graphics are simple and great. I also really liked the level end animation. Great game, well done!

alexascher 2023-10-07 22:50

Very powerful. The game demonstrates how much can be found in simplicity. I liked the balance of difficulty and the variety of mechanics – sometimes it requires motor skills, sometimes coming up with an idea, and sometimes encountering a simple and enjoyable level.

discofish 2023-10-08 12:10

Wow! Such a great game mechanic! Well done!

red-stake 2023-10-09 17:34

I've played a ton of indie platformers, but I haven't seen this mechanic before - it's really creative! I loved the level design, that fit well with the central mechanic.

Well done, this is a great game!

harmadillo 2023-10-10 18:53

Excellent game. The box mechanic is really good and works with a nice variety of puzzles. The jumping felt the weakest part but I was on keyboard and controller might be better. Still an excellent game.

pkenney 2023-10-12 01:17

Very nice game! Made me think back on some of those talks from Jon Blow where he talks about a designer creating the rules and then exploring variations on them to learn what's possible, and communicating what they've learned to the player through puzzles.

I especially started to feel that way when the dotted-boxes that you are NOT inside could be pushed to pass through most solid matter but not the grey blocks, so you see them from a whole new angle. Very cool stuff that kept revealing interesting new things throughout.

The only splinter I had was the gamefeel of the double-jump, which I never got fluid at, but which became core to some of the puzzles later in the game. The revelation of trapping a dotted-box to walljump off was a cool moment, but the pleasure of those puzzles was slightly diminished by the way that wall-jumping fails took me out of the flow state. Fortunately I could usually jump spam past it.

Here's a montage of the times I got stuck... which somehow didn't actually bother me, just seemed sort of funny.

BoxBox-Stuck.png

Generally the feel was really nice, and the mechanics were intuitive. Respect for not having to use any text to explain anything, I really appreciate that approach.

Nice fully-explore novel mechanic right on theme... well done.

cassowary 2023-10-14 05:09

This is really clever! The level design is cool and I love how many different ideas you were able to squeeze out of this concept. I definitely wasn't expecting the introduction of the outline-merging mechanic, which added a lot of welcome depth to the puzzles. And you've got a lot of levels! Well done!

I wish the wall-jump was a little more well-defined, and I encountered a bug in the second part of level 18 (moving the bottom 'dotted-box' by pushing the medium-sized block to the right should make the small block fall down on top of it, but instead the small block just disappears)

Overall, this is a really great entry, well done!
