Cool stuff. I enjoyed taking those hitchhikers and dropping them off at the nearest gas station. My only complaint is that the music is way too loud. I think this could be an epic relaxing game with some lower and calmer music.
@aerial thanks for the feedback! you can change volume in the preferences

Seems like a chill game but I feel like it's missing a few features that would make it feel nice to play, namely character interaction and some sort of goal/reward. If I understood the game correctly, it plays endlessly on a road and you can stop to get passengers into your car or drop them. Currently, you can't talk to the passengers and there isn't any benefit in-game for getting passengers or dropping them. Adding these would probably make the game more interesting.
Still congrats on Compo submission, hope you had a great jam!

yeah, i did plan to add all these, but didn't have time. spent too much on little improvements
thanks for the feedback!

A cool concept to fit with the theme. It took me a while to understand the dropping off of hitchhikers at the gas stations. Simple yet effective!
It's true, in compo, there is just never enough time. I thought you did a good job and it's cool to look at and very moody.

Missing an objective. Cute graphics, cozy driving at night.

I agree with the lack of goals and character interactions, but this is a solid base for a cool game and it fits the theme very well. Let us know if you continue it!

its a relaxing concept, but I'm not sure I understand the gameplay? I was curious if there were any objectives or challenges? Its definitely a neat idea, and has a cozy vibe for sure

I loved the mood of the game, although some elements are missing to be a game in a sence that you can win or lose. The hand drawn graphics simulating 3D makes a nice art style, the music does the rest.
With which program did you make the music?
@gilborn
> With which program did you make the music?
i use ardour, yoshimi for synths and fluidr3 soundfont for drums. i have lots of lv2 plugins, but in this case i think i've used some guitarix plugin for distortion and calf reverb
more gameplay elements will be added in post-ld versions!

Nice chill idea, shame you didn't have time to flesh it out more. I like the rough artwork. Disappointed you can't stuff people in the trunk. I did mess with peoples luggage to see if anything happened. Ren'py seems an odd engine choice for this, but hey - if it works...
The art style is charming, and I wish I could stuff people in the trunk and steal people's luggage. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any overarching goal in the game, but I think this is the start to something quite cool. It just needs a lot more development! I messed around with this a lot more than I probably should have.
ayo I follow your work on bandcamp lmao, cool to see you're also doing gamedev!
So yea, the visuals were nice, but overall there's just a lot of nothing here. Which is fine, especially with the atmosphere of hitchhiking, but even just any sort of map or knowing where people need to go would be cool, because right now the game doesn't have any goals, and people can never arrive where they need to go
small interactables can go a long way to make boring stretches more engaging / give players something to fidget with, and some form of interaction with the passengers would be nice too. Just to understand anything about the world and/or them
also, the day/night transition was really sudden.
thanks all for playing and comments!

it's the only engine i know well and i didn't want to spend most of the ludum dare learning instead of making a game. still, i did have to stretch a few things there ;) so contemplating if i should change engine now
@scolondev you can steal luggage though! (but you can't do anything meaningful with it afterwards)
@snekofspice heh, it's a small world ^_^
> also, the day/night transition was really sudden.
fixed that
as for the rest, well, i'm still working on it so come back later if you want to see what becomes of it

This is a cool idea, but like other people have said, it doesn't really have any goal or anything like that. I really enjoy the mood and the hand drawn graphics though, that adds a nice little flair to it!

I think if there was some kind of interaction and chit-chat with hitchhikers, it would make the game more fun. A road trip can be a great setting for a story!
Nice music!

- I felt there wasn't anything to do during the travel - The day night cycle was a little too sudden - I placed my baggage in front of the wheel and could not move it, I could move my character but it doesn't go into the trunk, but the suitcase driving is ok :p - The music was quite annoying - It felt like there was no goal, I didn't leave any hitchhikers, it felt like there was no progress.

Screenshot 2023-10-09 155820.png I win, right?
I had a hang on my very first fun when I stopped at a gash station, then clicked "back". My second run went fine, but I avoided pressing those buttons down there except "skip". I laughed when I realized I couldn't take a person without their luggage, but I _could_ take just their luggage... Also, "people won't ride in the trunk", what's with that? :D
I liked the music, although sounded a bit too oversampled to my tastes. Nice art on the characters. Not much going on gameplay wise though, I would have liked just a little motivation (score for how many people were delivered to safety or something?).

I did feel like the music set the right mood, although like some other commenters I think it was a bit too loud.
