I loved the idea of moving around things on your ship for steering. I was also happily surprised when I accidentally dropped something on my cannon that it shot it out lol. Great job!

I loved the idea of moving around things on your ship for steering. I was also happily surprised when I accidentally dropped something on my cannon that it shot it out lol. Great job!
Great job really fun idea for the theme and also i can't believe its your first ludum dare jam :D
Neat! Tilting the ship is really cool, I did have an issue trying to pick up loot that was too far away, it would disappear under the water. Other than that it was good!
Amazing graphics. Looks very and very good for 72-hour jam. But why can we grab some items on board? It could be a bug, but they fall down through the ship.
Really good graphics. But the controls/gameplay left me frustrated. I kept throwing my cannon in to the water on accident. Also picking things up sometimes would still have the object behind the ship when I dragged it over.
That was really fun! Quite challenging to play with a trackpad, but still fun! I love the concept! Fits very well with the theme!
This is so cool, I love the idea of steering your ship this way, of course the first thing I did was I accidentally dropped the cannon into the sea :D it's pretty challenging to master the controls. I could not pick up objects in water that were in front of the ship, because they would sink down while being dragged towards the ship.
This game was really really good. The music was nice and fit very well. The graphics were bright and nice to look at. The gameplay was fun and made sense. Overall polish was great. This was a good entry.
I really enjoyed this game! The soundtrack was really cool, and the boat steering is a concept I've wanted to try to tackle for a while. It's cool to see how you handled it. Overall, I really enjoyed playing it!
This is a new one for sure. I think you're on the right track for gameplay and it'd be really cool if there were even more effects you could have by mixing and matching what you have on the boat. Current game is awesome though, everything felt tight, polished, and professional.
Thanks everyone! We've had a ton of fun thinking of stuff to fill in the ship but felt the current selection to be appropriate for a gamejam for now... yeah it's our first jam here but not our first gamejam overall. But we're definitely going to come back next time! <3
@ham-and-swiss the controls are definitely a thing we hoped to bring to a better stage. We'll try better next time! Thanks for you feedback.
@psychedelia yeah picking up stuff like that is tricky. We've definitely encountered it during testing but we had to stick to a tight schedule on stuff, as you know, so... yeah sorry :( Nonetheless, thanks for your feedback!
@interpol I'm not sure about this one... you can pick up a lot of things from your ship, that's no bug. But the falling through... possibly. Thanks for your feedback.
Love the whole art style of the game, also love the audio design! it is also a fun implementation of the theme but the controls are a bit less polished overall a really fun experience!
Art style is great, but the controls left me frustrated. Grabbing items from the water was weird. Great implementation of the theme though!
Yeah, in hindsight we should've put more effort into the controls bit. :( But I'm glad you liked it nonetheless! :D
Great entry! Love the music, fits the game very well. The graphics remind me of The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker, which is a good thing! :) Great job!
Into tune: What rocking jam!
Honestly the presentation is close to a finished game. Incredibly impressive, well done team.
I think there should be more junk to pick up especially for beginners. I'd thrown everything overboard in a panic at the beginning (the sinking animations amused me). The mechanic is clever and spot on with the theme.
Others had mentioned the controls, hey what else is this play testing for though!
Again great job, everything fits together really well in this game.
Art style is amazing.
Sound and look of the game is great. Exactly what I invision a pirate ship looks like. The water touching the objects as well. Really nice.
The concept is also great! Controlling the ship was quite difficult, but I guess that is expected.
I guess i'm not very good at your game :/. Very innovative mechanics. 2017-12-05 17_46_47-Ludum Dare 40_ Capitain Capsize.png
Nice music!! Really loved the feedback on the ship when you move something.
Hahahaha @przekop, did you shoot off everything? That's great. But surely a pirate wouldn't do this! Must be hard to get to the end that way, too, haha.
Hard to believe that was created in such short period of time. Wow, keep it up !
Really good looking game, and i'm mindblown by the mechanic idea ! I may misunderstand something but i can't drag loot to the boat ...
@zblah you can use your scrollwheel to bring them closer and onto the boat! :)
Very innovative game, took abit to learn the mechanics but when I found out I had a blast!
Only criticisms from me would be that pulling items in with the mousewheel felt a little clunky to me and the music could have been a tad more varied
I would have also wished for the Objects to effect the physics of the other ships too - E.g me placing a cannon on their right side would send them teetering right instead of falling through their hulls..
Otherwise the game was incredibly fun and really stayed true to the theme!
@ponchoguy Oh wow, hadn't even thought about adding the same physics to the other boats (even though it seems so obvious now)! Really clever and really good feedback there, thank you so much. Again, thanks for playing, I'm glad you liked it!
The music and graphics are really nice. One little critique: Grabbing stuff from other places seems that they stay on the same axis so I couldn't really put them on my own boat.
The game is fantastic! I love the pirate atmosphere ^^. The control of the physics to move the boat is really a very good idea. I had a bit of trouble getting things to put in the barrel, but I succeed to sink another boat, which makes me a great pirate!
Special felicitation to the modeler for the work of 3D assets and the graphic in general
Really Good Job
Took me quite a bit to fully get the hang of it aside from that I had fun playing. I FELL IN LOVE WITH THE GRAPHICS TOO!
This was really really cool. Picking other ships apart and scavenging the sea for stuff to put on your - or their boats is just awesome. Has some issues with grabbing things from affar would lose the objects to the sea, but other than that this is probably my favorite entry so far!
I cant steal other ships cannons! That was hilarious!
I found the controls very cool and innovative, but they need some work! Of course I like stealing other ships stuff, but I think that might be a little too much. Also I was not sure how to pick some things of the water, they would never reach the ship level.
With some extra work this could be a very fun game.
The only thing I felt out of place was the music.
I'm always so surprised at the quality some people / teams can put out during 48/72 hours.
Very innovative idea, fun to play, good graphics, great music, what else can I say? Amazing!
Thank you all for the VALUABLE feedback! Really appreciate it! We'd defintely need to fix up the controls, agreed. We weren't too sure how to handle that as we wanted to minimalize interfaces... it's tough! But we've learned a lot and we'll definitely deliver a better product the next time around!
@leandre-renouard our 3D artist blushed away, many many thanks!! <3
@jilreymendez yeah you can absolutely steal stuff from other ships! And picking things from the water is hard, yeah, it's do-able though... Sorry about that! <3 Thank you for your feedback!
@twinghosts that's really awesome of you to say holy shit <3
This is a very nicely polished game for a game jam. I think you've executed your vision well and am glad you were able to add some humor to your theme w/ your descriptions, music, and goal of getting to the pub!
The graphics are incredible amazing job! This is really fun and could develop into really good full out game.
Check out my game if you would like! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/virus-detected
Such a cool game! I cannot understand how that's possible to make in such a short time (someone must have gotten real close to the time limit). Loved the idea, the visuals and audio are just incredible! Definetely a good submission.
@stratoskakalis Yeah not gonna lie, we only had about two hours left when we put out the final build. Our 3D modelers had pumped out most of the assets on saturday and most of the code was done on sunday. We had to do some final things on interface, sounds and enemy AI on monday evening (we have dayjobs)... it was close! But we made it.
Great graphics and gameplay, great job ! 👌
so cool! nice music
Neat idea was confused how it worked at first with the moving objects around, nice touvh and the art was superb. An all around good entry with the art standing out the ost for me.
Great game! The graphic is excellent and the steering mechanism very innovative. Great job!
Cant really get used to this way of controlling the ship more or less putting stuff on the ship properly. But honestly the game is impressive visually and is very innovative. I want to see this game in the future!
I really enjoy the mechanics of steering the ship and it's quite challenging. I had a few bugs with trying to pick up loot and I didn't fully understand the correct way to do it. My fist idea was to just run over it to pick it up which might make more sense with the movement mechanic? Music was really good and sound effects were fitting and well done. Graphics were a plus as they are consistent and enjoyable. I only wish there were more clear instructions.
Quite nice mechanics, but I didn't make it well :D
I like the idea behind the mechanics, but the camera shake as the ship tried to right itself after moving the cannon was really disorienting. It was hard to tell when I was turning at times though. Maybe a little line that shows the direction the boat's going?
Otherwise, love the graphics and music! It's super well put together, especially for your first jam!
Nice idea and mechanics, very well done sirs.
This idea is great, ace mechanic, really great art and fits the theme perfectly. definitely will be playing this again later
Arrr! What a fantastic game! I love the pirate theme (we actually made a pirate game for LD#38), the graphics are so nice and coherent.
The idea to throw your own parts create interesting and innovative gameplay. One of the best games this LD!!
Great music, great graphics, and a great core mechanic. I had trouble steering at times, though; is there a way to maybe give the players some feedback on which direction they're actually going? because it doesn't always seem to be the direction the boat is facing. Anyways, great job!
Your game has realllyyy nice graphics, and the music is definitely cool, tough a bit short in terms of lifespam ^^ I guess you've been told that already but the size of the boat doesn't fit its apparent speed :-) appart from that GG !
The graphics are fantastic, as well as the music! But I found the controls somewhat frustrating. Great game, though!
Wow, what a beautiful game! The art is simply soooo good, give your artist a tap on the back. The music and sfx are also pretty neat. I LOVED the concept and how you use the theme, but the controls were kind difficult. I could not pickup items from water and sometimes I would move stuff around and it just fell through the ship. Overall, a great entry, guys. You've done a fantastic job.
Love this one, it's a really solid piece of game for a ludum dare. The artwork is specially remarkable, kinda reminds me of Wind Waker, one of my favorite games. Would love to see this "universe" expanded in a full version of the game!
I agree with the general opinions here that the presentation, graphics, music, design are all very fantastic. But I find the picking up of items very glitchy (playing with mouse on the WebGL version).
I'm ok with the physics based controls and moving the canon around to steer the ship, but when I tried to pick up items in the environment, they just move horizontally along the surface of the sea and then disappear under the ship when I try to drag it onto the cannon. Once in a while, I manage to get it to load and fire from the cannon, but not consistent enough for smooth playing. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but the hand icon doesn't explain much.
This game feels so close to a commercial level of quality on almost every aspect, I just wish the controls are more accessible and intuitive.
Awesome arts for a 72h game. That confirmed the fact that I love pirates games ! Although, as some people already said, I had a bit of confusion with the controls too.
Bit hard to control the boat and camera, but fun nonetheless! The guitar riffing was a pleasant surprise in the usually bleep-heavy LD soundscape.
I am not sure what it is about your art style, but I really liked it. Maybe it reminds me of Wind Walker, but it is definitely triggering a very positive feeling inside. Fun, easy to understand controls and great art add up to a pretty great experience. Good job!
quite innovative mechanics, even if it's a bit hard to place the objects around your ship to turn the right way in time, it was fun to play nontheless.
I really digged the Pirate theme, the visuals are quite nice, and i totally approve that rocking soundtrack you have \m/ è.é \m/
Good job Captain and Crew on this game, yohoho and bottles of rhum to you ! XD
Awesome game for your first time here!
Very interesting concept, and I just love the windwaker style lowpoly graphics! As echoed above many times, the controls weren't that great - it wasn't clearly communicated that scrolling the mouse scroll button downwards would make grabbed objects come closer, so it was confusing on how to get objects onboard for awhile. Aiming at enemy ships using the cannon was also a little... impossible to say the least. Rather chose the cheap option of clicking on the enemies cannons to drop them. Seems like its not possible to stack more than one cannon onboard as well. It also isn't clearly laid out where you should go, and I thought the "PUB" was the ending but was a little letdown. Levels need to be a bit more bitesized as well, as there's quite a huge swathe of water to go through, which reminds me of the downtime in windwaker. Still a solid entry!
@randomphantom thanks for your in-depth feedback. I hope you had a tiny bit of fun, at least. ;) Had we a bit more time, we'd have fixed the control scheme and level design but we were delayed for about 10 hours before we could start the jam so we just had to deliver as it was in the end, I'm afraid. Sorry about that!
The music is amazing and I love the idea of the game, but I can't seem to be able to put loot onto my boat, it just seems to disappear under water. Also sometimes the enemy boats will go right through your boat.
I fell in love with your graphics - very well done :3
I have problems running it. Do you know something about that? HTML5 is laggy so i tried win version and it wont launch. "Failed to initialize Direct3D. Make sure you have at least DirectX 9.0c installed, have drivers for your graphics card and have not disabled 3D acceleration in display settings. InitializeEngineGraphics failed"
Mine drivers are up to date. Win 10, i5 a GTX960. Never had any problems with unity games.
edit: i solved it by running it as a admin
@kamtar if you are on a laptop, run it with your actual GPU and not your Intel GPU. If you're on desktop, run it as Administrator. We'd never release broken games. We test them on a large variety of setups. :)
Edit: seems to have helped you. I'm glad!
I really love the idea, but I can't seem to place items consistently, especially when I pick them up from the water or other boats. The cursor keeps losing altitude and I can't actually place them on my deck (they fall under the boat). That made most of the game very hard to play, and made gathering lots of loot impossible.
Love the art, sounds, and music though. And again, the concept is great.
@wheffle have you tried scrolling whilst holding an item with the left mouse button? It's a bit clunky we admit, but it allows you to pull items toward you.
Excellent graphics !!
I like the grab mechanics, but the game was pretty hard. Making a version of this for VR would be a great fit it think. This is one of the nicest looking and most polished games I've played so far
Supe Awesome !!!
Cool game! But the camera controls are kinda weird...
@JoramWolters Ah, yeah I probably didn't try that. I'll give that a shot! Thanks for responding!
Ok. Five Stars. Really, you rock, dude. I can't believe. Perfect usage of the theme. I don't have anything to tell, just say that you've made an awesome job!
Congratulations! :D
ok, so scrolling is not very intuitive, I thought it was a bug that things are so far away, but I managed to get them so high that they fall onto the ship :P Nice and polished game.
@arputikos ticking off another one for controls haha, definitely something we HAVE to put more effort in next time! Thank you for your feedback, I appreciate it!
Nice Mechanics, interesting way of controlling the boat. I love the graphics and the sound. Good job
Very cool way to control the ship and the ability to steal cannons from other ships is just hilarious. Also, the game is quite the looker.
Onthe other hand, I wasn't very fond of the scrolling. Wouldn't be possible to pick everything up to the same height (I'd assume the Y axis) and move it above the ship and everywhere else (so along X and Z)? The sea is more or less flat after all, so it could work...
I love the graphics, the way to drive the ship is quite funny. My main problem was that I had trouble to place item on my deck and my canon end up to be on the very back of the ship. Well done!
interesting choice of music, also the sounds fit very well, only the scrolling was a bit confusing
The controls are really hard to master, the game itself is well done. I like the graphics. Keep it up!
I liked the low poly graphics. i had few problems with the controls. overall great game.
The game is polished, but the controls are making the game extremely hard to play. I was unable to make it past few islands - and after few retries it was really frustrating to go on.
The idea of steering when moving things is neat, but as the camera shakes and it's not visible WHERE you're going, you instantly crash into island. Also cannon (used to steer) when falls through ship means you died, and it does it so often (like every 4th or so grab).
Amazing game ! Congrats its beautiful and fun to play. However, sometime the game dont let you put stuff on your boat, which is quite frustrating. Good job !
Definitely challenging to get used to, but I think the idea of moving cargo on your ship to steer is really cool. I unintentionally shot way too much of my stuff out of my cannon, though.
