Cool little shooter! I enjoyed it! You've built a really good foundation, so much potential for adding content. I did find myself wishing there was some sort of background loop playing to break up the shooting noise. Nice work!

First I was like "Yeah, another shooter, let's get it over with..." Then i was like "DIE MF! Yeah! Take that you green piece of sh..."
Haha, long story short I had a blast, I was so surprised how many upgrades there actually are. I expected to be like three upgrades over and over, but it always surprised me, even after lvl 10, when the game started to be really tough!
Very solid entry, even the graphics and SFX are pretty nice :). Maybe some music/ambience in the background would be cool, but considering that you joined COMPO, I think it is very much justifiable.

Really addictive gameplay, it remembers me Vampire Survivor, well done! Was able to score **7242** as best!

Score: 7740.
Great little game, love upgrade systems like this.
Score: 3892 F*cking Covid
Fun game with gradually increasing difficulty. Dynamic and interesting. Great job
Over 9k points, this is a lot of fun! Some kind of exploding screen clear ability would have been satisfying.
Bugs: - having Escape close fullscreen and also the pause menu might not be a good idea ;) - hitting restart after dying at level 19, I continued with level 19 (although the xp needed per level reset correctly) and never saw a single damage update
Edit: Yay, 13200
Very cool theming. First time in my life, I feel like a coward leukocyte. I miss some more ambiant sound (maybe heartbeats).

A fun and nice looking game! It has a very consistent and eye catching graphical style which I like. I enjoyed playing it.
Some feedback: there should probably be a ranged enemy type, or something that will catch the player off guard. At the moment it's quite possible to go on forever, since all the enemies become slower than you, and you can just dodge away from them.
It's still super fun, and I got to level 20 just to see how powerful I could become :)
For a compo game it's very polished, and not too badly balanced either. Nice job!
Well polished good top down shooter. Controls felt smooth and overall enjoyable. My suggestions would be - add some unpgrades the would fire more or different missiles (or mayber that comes later) and add different enemies, or increase difficulty later, as after a while this felt like moving around the horde of enemies in circles. Well done)
This is pretty addictive, will try again tomorrow to see how far I can get

That went from "Oh hey this is a pretty cool and easy game, I could do this all day" to "OH NO THERE ARE SO MANY INTRUDERS AAAAAAAAAAA" in about 5 levels."
I got to 24 in the end! Very well made. I love games with progression and upgrades like this highscore.png
Im gonna be honest here. This game sucked. Then I figured out I am an asshole that don´t read instructions. Apperently you can move. Wow that nice. Now I can move an.. HEY what´s this. Upgrades.. F**K YEAAA. Move shoot kill repeat. More upgrades. Game addiction starting to grow. well. I have changed my mind. This is a great game. Loved the upgrade system, the statistics. The sound could have been more exciting but otherwise a top notch game. Thanks for giving me this experience.

I enoyed this one much longer than I expected to. Although I still think it is a bit too easy once you figured out the proper tactics. And the dash can be a bit obverpowered as you can dash through enemies and get out of the circle around you and are then clear from danger. Until the next wave forms around you, the dash is usually already rechared.
But besides that the game was a lot of fun Virus-Bash.PNG
The solid upgrade system gave this game some real unexpected depth. Pretty simple but addictive. Real good game overall
very fun game, i liked how clean the visuals were. the shooting sound got a bit annoying after a while with no music but thats my only complaint:)
Very cool, really well executed twin stick shooter. Upgrades are great, difficulty ramps up perfectly and controls are great.
Some feedback though: - I would have loved to get a sound effect to play on each hit. Would have been really satisfying. - I feel the background is a tad too bright (Too much contrast).
Other than that, really cool!

Wow, the game is fantastic. From all entries I played, this was the one I had the most fun with. 2022-04-05_13-15-50.png I do have to play at least once more and use dash - I had no idea it is there until I have seen some upgrades but then I didn't know how to trigger it.
The graphics is simple but very coherent, it looks very polished, I love it. You can really feel lack of music - and that's a pitty because the game would really feel much more intense. Also I would love to have a little bit more sound effects.
Great leveling system, as for jam - nice variety of enemies. Simple but very well executed idea :).

Nice Game. I like the upgrade system. The only thing I'm missing is a soundtrack in the background. Other than that it's pretty good. Keep it up!
virus_bash.png
Started off nice and easy, then I saw why there was no edges and I didn't have enough damage and there were big green guys everywhere and I died. But I enjoyed it a lot. Good work.
Some background music would have been nice.

Cool game! The art style is nice, sound effect sounds good too. Since the player needs to shoot all the time, I would prefer that the character was shooting automatically without pressing the mouse button. Great job on this one! I got 6660 points :)

Fun ! it's addictive :) Best score around 2700. Sound is a bit annoying after some time, maybe try to ajust"pitch" or do some variation (random volume for example). all that's missing is good music.
Holy crap, this game is addictive. Love it
Once i learned not to buy a random upgrade immideately when leveling up (since its the same button as shooting), it was a lot of fun. Sprites look great and the Mood really fits this jams theme. Only complaint i have is the crosshair feeling sticky when moving (I only tried the web version).

Realy liked the game Nice shooter. Did not expert to play This long ;) you got me hooked.
Where are from so many viruses? it must be the sickest organism in the world!
Cool game :). I’ve just got rid of covid so this was satisfying to beat them haha

It's good all around though it eventually got to a point where the game started getting laggy and it would cause me to take damage when I probably could have dodged it
I also learned not to try to do corrected shots by clicking repeatedly instead of holding LMB because I would accidentally buy an upgrade when leveling up
awesome! i don't know why but i really liked the spawn-in mechanic. it felt so "wavy" :)
"you couldn't kill all intruders"... Well it's true but big green ones are too strong.
What I learnt: Health regeneration > damage > others Edit: no, damage > others
Addictive game, I love the infinite cyclic world, even if I'm not sure how small it is.

Aaaah finally the addictive scoring game i've been looking for! Well polished and I really like the upgrade system !
I haven't been hit a single time, why would I pick health regen - oh. OH. Where is my health regen? Why is leveling up taking so long?! AAAAAH!
Incredibly fun game, and really well balanced!virus bash.png

Lovely art and impressive upgrade system! I found the whole game too easy at the start, never dashed and just wanted my shots to be more powerful all the time. Some music and good audio would really help that feeling of power. Great foundation for a cool bullet hell! My score: 3906
A very well executed game! I was so busy clicking that I kept closing the level up/upgrade dialogs as soon as they opened. Well done!
To continue my review after playing few games, it would be cool to display the score in real time, I want to know while playing, it's a bit long without it! unknown.png
Very nice! I enjoyed constantly seeing hordes of viruses charge at me!
Super addicting, could use some music and different sounds though Screenshot_22-04-06_17:56:38.png I think I've got the record here for now
This whole game is very intuitive and relaxing. Good job on all aspects.
Great game :)
I loved the upgrade system, The only thing I would change would be the difficulty and upgrade curve in the sense that the game would get harder faster but also the upgrades would get stronger quickly

Ahh, such a fresh take on the top down shooter, was nice with the upgrade system to keep the gameplay interesting, and when you came to a certain stage the dash ability really came into full use! A great entry all in all! Good job!
Good job! It is in quite a polished state where the controls feel fluent, it looks good, and there is enough variety to add some depth into the gameplay compared to just pointing and clicking. I think the main strength of this game was strategic manouvering, trying to make sure to always have an escape route. I enjoyed playing a lot! High score: 5070
I have one small point of feedback: After just a couple levels it already feels like the shooting is not really doing anything helpful anymore, as there are just so many enemies. Of course, the theme 'it is inevitable' kind fits this, but gameplay wise it would be a bit more fun if there were certain options to wipe out a tonne of virusses every once in a while.
Great job on the game!

7722 It was fun and addictive. The difficulty curve is a bit slow to my taste you have to wait a while before having to use the dash ability. The most interesting/dangerous part of the game is when ennemy spawn around you or when they loop behind your position, you could add enemies with different move pattern or teleportation so player feel the danger coming sooner.

Upgrade system was very cool, giving the player the feeling of progression. The spawning of the enemy could use a little work? I felt like they all spawned at once on a random timer? You can make it a little more dynamic and fluid - slowly increasing in speed and number as the levels increase.
I really feel this game could really benefit from some enemy that also fire projectiles for the player to dodge, this would introduce a secondary challenge. Some other cool ideas might be boss battles every 10 levels or so (just a large bullet hell type dodge and shoot), perhaps bosses drop extra health and upgrades as well?
Overall super solid, this could evolve into an awesome game.

Nice game, the controls are very tight and the level up/upgrades are a nice fit.
It does get a bit stale after a while. Maybe it would be cool if some really tough virus showed up randomly on later levels (like bosses). Still, very balanced for a 48h entry :)
This one was a really polished experienced for a compo entry. The upgrade system was neat and added a satisfying layer of progression to the intuitive and fun combat mechanics. I stopped after reaching level 20, because the gameplay was getting a little stale. If anything I would have preferred a steeper difficulty curve, but I understand balancing a game in 48h is a big ask. The animations on the enemies/player were simple, but really solid. Overall, really good job on this one!

Awesome game. Progression is well balanced and the gameplay is challenging but you can learn different strategies to make it easier. Just missing a music track to make give it some more atmosphere. My fav entry so far!

in the end I was getting nothing that increased my dps for a long time... Is that on purpose, or was I just unlucky?

really cool game - i reached level 15. i like the idea of taking a simple game mechanic and add stuff like upgrades and exp system with it.

I played a few times, and have to say it is very satisfying, just when you get enough DPS to one-shot multiple enemies with one piercing shot. Lovely presentation as well, very simple, but works well.
And sheeeesh how are you all getting to that high of a round.

@who Maybe you missed the dash ability?
Wow this in an AWESOME entry ! I love it, the gameplay just feels so crisp and sharp, there's no randomness or bugs in the way you move, you are just in control all the time, that feels so good and so polished for a compo game ! The difficulty curve was already pretty well managed and the art was simple yet efficient, no problem telling the player and the enemies apart. And no slowdown or performance issue whatsoever. Feels good, awesome job

Highscore :)
Fun and polished - just wish for some kill sounds and some background music - good entry, well done!
Great entry, but the difficulty ramps too quickly! By level 9-10 the enemies spawn in insane numbers! A slightly wider view angle would be nicer as well, and maybe if they could spawn further away to give time to react etc. Great fun though, I got to level 18
Fun shooter! my high score is embarrassing compared to the rest here so I'll save it. I'd add some high tempo background music to make it feel more intense, but besides that it was pretty fun. good job!
A simple but compelling upgrade loop, very glad you're giving three random options per level up, prevents me from being overwhelmed with options. Excellent visuals! I really liked how the enemies had animations as they moved, the numbers and bars were clearly readable, menus looked nice as well. Sound effects were also great, would have loved a little music with it
I've played lots of these kinds of games... And they're always really fun! Nice work. I like that you can pick your upgrades.

Thanks for submitting this to my stream. This was a really good game. There could be improvements, but I was too busy playing to notice them right away. Very good entry and honestly out of all games that people submitted on my stream, this one was the most fun. GJ

Really moreish gameplay. On the gameplay side of things, my only complaint would be that I think either the first upgrade to the regeneration skill should mention that you're buying the ability to regenerate, or you should start with the minimum amount of regeneration. I got *way* too far into the game before I got hit and realised that my health wasn't coming back...!
Definitely could have done with some music--I'm thinking some heavy electric guitar, personally--but thank you for at least varying the frequency of the shooting sound effect...! I think my brain would have exploded if I'd played for as long as I did and the shots had all sounded the same...!
Great work!
