LD49 — Unstable

Wacky Pachyderm by fishbrain 2021-10-06T18:56:07Z

This game was so challenging and fun, i really dig this kinda creative movement system and the are really well setup so that the optional rewards provide an added incentive for mastery on the control scheme. Only thing I would change, and I think this was mention in other comments, is that its a tiny bit too punishing to restart the entire game on game over, although that's also just personal taste. I had a fun time playing this, great job!

PTSD Fishing by KuKuRammus 2021-10-04T23:14:56Z

This game is hilarious and does exactly what it says on the tin perfectly. Really funny and enjoyable.

Puzzled Love by Yaroslav Kravtsov 2021-10-04T23:37:07Z

Really solid execution on the puzzle! It worked really well and felt very engaging. The ending was very satisfying too!

Cat Stranding by 0x01F0 2021-10-06T18:30:28Z

Really chill and peaceful atmosphere, definitely feels like it meditative game you can just relax to. Unfortunately even with the compass and the map I got lost at one point and couldnt find my way to the next waypoint (I think it was the last or second to last delivery), but overall cool vibe!

II-III-V by miziziziz 2021-10-06T16:47:14Z

Sick atmosphere and setting. The writing and environment did a lot of heavy lifting and made the game really engaging. I really enjoyed the wheelchair movement, and the sound design and UX on the computer felt really good and satisfying. Only thing I would say is that it seems like the "zombies"(kinda feel bad calling them that) seem to follow you using a closest path algorithm, but it sort of feels like they should go to the last place they saw you instead (mostly noticable on the loop puzzle). Overall very cool and enjoyable movement system and setting, fun game!

Uns-table pumpkins by frederikja163 2021-10-12T02:59:52Z

Really great job making this in such a short time without using an engine! Pretty simple concept but surprisingly challenging. I think I'll join with the other commenters and say the devscore is way too high to try to beat :) good job getting such a high score though, and on creating such an engaging game with such simple components!

Space Scavenging by namnam 2021-10-12T03:34:27Z

This game is so fun. Probably of all games I've played this jam so far (which has been a lot), this game feels like it has the most potential post-jam. I feel like the one thing that this game cries out for is some kind of progression, or even a rogue-like metagame or something over it would add a lot. The second to second gameplay of chaining jumps and pushing your luck feels amazing. Great sound and music choice and really nice art style. Great job!

Outer Space Transport Service by Turncoda 2021-10-05T18:17:40Z

Wow, this game is super clean and feels really well polished. I LOVE really simple games like this, it just feels so clean and well thought-out. The gameplay is REALLY fun and challenging in the best way. Only bit of feedback I have is that I seemed to have gotten "eaten" by the dotted lines when I tried to deliver a gold chunk. It did the animation like it took the gold chunk but it also killed me! I don't know if that was intended or not. Such a smart twist on asteroids, great job!

Unbalanced Brawl by yopox 2021-10-06T05:31:15Z

wow, its kinda insane that you were able to pull this off in just this the jam time! I'm not a of the huge autochess genre but this was really well done. Music and art fit really well, good job y'all!

God Engine by ick 2021-10-06T22:24:17Z

wow, the ambiance is rad in this game. Took me a minute to figure out how the game worked, but man is the shader effect cool. I was constantly worried I would be jumpscared, so I'm glad you didn't opt to do that! Really mysterious and cool vibe, and such cool visuals! Great work!

Remote Work by Frozedon 2021-10-06T05:19:53Z

This game was insanely cool! Everything was executed so well and so cleanly. Really neat minigames incoporating the filesystem and such. I only wish there were a couple more minigames, but I'm glad the ones that were in were done so well. I think I may just be bad at puzzle solving, but I couldn't figure out the thing Christopher was telling me about. Overall really neat game and pulled off really strongly!

Captain Canary's Crash Landing Calamity by Beebo Studios 2021-10-05T01:09:47Z

Really dig the style and the perspective (i think its just the angle) feels really fresh and interesting! I felt so bad for all the animals i failed to save... at least they have parachutes?

Path of Giants by Jon_Nova 2021-10-06T22:31:29Z

I really enjoyed this, I think I accidentally stood on a mech in one of the earlier levels so I understood that as soon as I needed to use it so luckily I didnt hit the roadblock some of the others did. The only thing I think I'd offer as feedback is that it would be very nice if the different levels of ice cracking were a bit more distinctive, since it was kind of hard to tell how much weight they were still able to bear. Such a cool take on the unstable theme though, I've seen a few games so far that deal with "unstable ice" and this one does it in such a clever and well thought out way! Great game!

ClownPunk by Panagiotis Iatrou 2021-10-06T22:41:27Z

What?! This game is amazing! I love everything about it, the movement system kept me constantly on my toes especially the aesthetics of the art and music were so good. I was terrified in the best way. The song was an absolute BANGER and didn't get old even after playing for a long time! UI touches were also so clean and nice. Fantastic job.

Human Stackâ„¢ by Minus 2021-10-05T18:00:16Z

I really like the dry humor and the gameplay is simple but well executed. Only thing I'd change is to make it so if you press a button while rotating it would speed it up (since you'd still want the option to rotate slow for fine-tuning). Good job, although I don't know what I did to make her bully me so much, like jeez I'm only trying to stack stuff for you!

BLOOPS! by jitspoe 2021-10-06T04:10:22Z

You've done something subtle with this game that I haven't seen with any other jam game that REALLY impressed me (I'm going to assume it was intentional!) which is that the game mechanically encourages instability and staying unstable. I pretty quickly found that because the blocks only drop when you stabilize, that means I just need to stay jittery and I have as much time as I need to adjust! Really cool, and fun game! Also the sound effects are hilarious!

Urban Llama Farmer by zerocomms 2021-10-04T22:38:33Z

I'm a sad excuse for a llama farmer... my llamas only made it up to floor 4. Such a simple but funny and well execute concept!

Trauma by AdamCYounis 2021-10-05T17:48:02Z

When our team was doing brainstorming we considered going in the same direction in terms of the theme, I'm glad you were able to make something so cool with it! The mechanics are really interesting and once they clicked with me they were really fun use, especially the final "combo" is really satisfying to pull of! Great level design and clean dialogue system for such a short time too, only thing I wish was that you could somehow replay the last dialogue, as I accidentally skipped one or two and missed them. Overall very cool concept and great execution!

An Unstable World by NoI3ody 2021-10-04T19:09:47Z

I totally agree with @joonamo, it would be neat to have a toggle to stop the dna cards from appearing if you want to just let the simulation play out! Only thing that I think could be tutorialized a bit better is what each of the values do, but fun to play around with it.

Meltdown by LouieJams 2021-10-12T03:15:45Z

Nice game! I think something linking the gauges with the in-game thing that affects them would do wonders for getting players to quickly understand the game (either symbolic, color-coded, something like that). I wish there was a bit more to the gameplay, maybe some kind of progression or increasing difficulty. I got to 350 and enjoyed my time, but realized a bit after that that I had basically seen the entire game. I really enjoyed the colors and art style and the execution on the pixel art were really awesome! Overall really great work ESPECIALLY for doing it solo! Really great artwork and nice job getting it all together in time!

Lost In Time by Westmave 2021-10-04T21:35:51Z

Really awesome concept! I'd love to see it with more fleshed-out dialogue. It would be nice if the player could tell what the bar at the top meant (I was able to figure out more full meant more stability, less full meant less stability, although it wasn't initially apparent). Also liked it when the game broke the 4th wall!

The Lesser Evil by Jon Topielski 2021-10-05T02:00:17Z

Most fun I've had playing any games this jam! There's enough curses to keep things interesting, and the curse mechanic has an opposite effect to what many roguelikes have, in which the player power curve goes up as you play a run. Instead, when you reset you're relatively way more powerful. The effect is really nice, makes me want to keep playing after a loss instead of giving up! Amazing art and music / sfx too!

icnaw by beeguy 2021-10-04T22:56:06Z

This game is trippy! I really liked the idea and thought it was executed in a really cool way too! You really weren't kidding about the epilepsy warning though, that certainly added to the unstable feeling. The gameplay felt very erratic (unstable) and it kept me on my toes. I did feel like i died very quickly though all of a sudden, even though i had a lot of health. Overall, very cool I had fun!

This is falling to be unstable by WitekWitek 2021-10-05T19:21:20Z

I though this game was very fun, and a good use of the theme! Music was really fitting and added a lot as well. I wish the score would have shown at the end screen though, because everytime I played I was so engaged in the actual staying on the bridge part that I didn't see what my score was at the end! Also the text went by a tad fast for my reading speed. Overall very fun and great game feel!

Un-Stabled by Denhette 2021-10-04T20:30:52Z

This game is hilarious, legitimately had a smile on my face the entire time i played, its just ridiculous. Amazing sound effects, and I beat the sheep level in 71.37 seconds!

Baby Atom by MarkVeligod 2021-10-04T21:54:52Z

Amazing visuals and really tight and good feeling movement system! I really like the movement of the red cores, they feel erratic and fun to dodge past. The quantum core wrecked me everytime though, i found it very difficult. I also really enjoyed the death save mechanic for the red cores, giving me a chance to mash to come back to life made it a lot less punishing!

You Gonna Cry? by Legolula 2021-10-06T22:48:19Z

Stupid Kevin... This game is short and sweet and I'm definitely here for the silliness. Really funny game and I think if it had been any longer it would have taken away some of the humor to it. Definitely looking forward to seeing what a post-jam version looks like! Great job on this!

Unable to Be Unstable by MadR 2021-10-04T21:44:02Z

What have I done?!?! Cute little game, nice animations and I good tutorialization. I wasn't lost at any point which is great for a jam game!

Decommissioned by T90. 2021-10-04T22:10:27Z

I really enjoyed this one! I was a bit lost on the objective, but it actually felt *right* for the situation, like i was dropped into the middle of these girls who were up to no good! I think if there had been any explanation on the machine, it would have taken away from the feeling and tone. Great stuff! Also amazing writing and I really liked the look and feel of the machine were great.

Broken Lives by thekrocker 2021-10-05T18:06:23Z

Is there more to do after you run past the second box? As others have said the tone and atmosphere was really great, felt mysterious and ominous and foreboding for sure! I'd be interesting in checking this out as it becomes more fleshed out.

Unstable Memories by potkirland 2021-10-06T18:44:14Z

Hey I was able to get to my family! Cool idea and great work getting it all together for the jam! As others have said, it was pretty difficult to figure out what to do, although once I tried it a few times it wasn't too bad. Would have been cool to have some kind of feedback sounds on the different interacting systems, but totally feel time constraints are a thing. Good work overall!

Baba Yaga by Teegan 2021-10-04T19:57:08Z

@euphelys Sorry you weren't able to move - must have hit a bug we didn't catch while playtesting. Just to get an idea of how we might be able to recreate it to potentially fix it, you said when trying to move the legs at the start, they turned inside-out?

Baba Yaga by Teegan 2021-10-04T23:02:50Z

@t90 that's a great question... probably due to the large number of art assets, which were imported at a pretty high definition. Thanks!

@westmave Thank you, that's very kind!

@yaroslav-kravtsov hope you get it!

@kukurammus yeah that's definitely something that we hoped to look into but didn't quite have the time. Thanks for the kind words and feedback!

@cabjhegas totally get the comment on stabilizing the house with the old lady. We did test out a few different versions from: house can topple over to house has no rotation and found that this had the best feel, but I think if we had more time it would have been cool to look into more mechanical rewards/punishments for keeping the house level/not. Thanks for the comment!

Baba Yaga by Teegan 2021-10-11T15:26:54Z

@bqq Thanks for the kind feedback! The bottle breaking sound is something we've noticed in the webplayer version as well, we need to look more into why porting it to HTML causes it to have these weird little sound quirks, thank you for noting it and letting us know though!

@beats Yeah, totally get that. Sometimes it's possible to right yourself with moving the legs or scaring off crows, but we really didn't billboard that very clearly, and if we had a more thorough tutorial it's something we'd like to touch on. Thank you for the input and kind words!

@ivan-nosov Thank you for the comment! We definitely had a lot more planned in terms of elements within the house, but there was a lot we had to cut back on for scope reasons.

Baba Yaga by Teegan 2021-10-11T15:37:22Z

@purrseus @salohcin894 Sorry to hear you two got stuck on some of the terrain. One thing we'll definitely be doing next jam is to allocate more time to internal playtesting to try to smooth out some of these rough edges (in some cases literally). Thank you two for the time and comments!

@ks-zealot Appreciate the feedback! Totally get the criticism, the aim with the controls was to be a *little* bit overcomplicated, but if it was frustrating or turned you off to push forward, it was probably a bit tuned too much towards the complicated side. Definitely something we'll look at for post-jam versions!

Hardwork Simulator by cabjhegas 2021-10-04T23:07:47Z

This game ROCKS! Such a cool and funny concept, and I can't see how you could have done it better! Really great stuff.

Critical Mass by RatoGodoy 2021-10-04T19:50:26Z

I got to level 23, really fun and i enjoy the catchup mechanic where getting hit makes you smaller, and therefore harder to hit in the future until you get more mass! I'm always a sucker for juicy particle systems like this, it looks great! Would have been really cool with some nice sfx as well.

Unstable Machine LD49 by albertmixalev 2021-10-12T03:26:36Z

Totally sick game, artstyle felt really coherent and really pleasant and unique! I love rhythm games and this was a really good one for such a short amount of time. Others have already mentioned that this game wants a soundtrack or even a metronome badly, but other than that great job! You should be proud, great little game!

--- by Dent 2021-10-04T19:18:57Z

amazing atmosphere and mood, really good lighting and camera work. I also got stuck on the puzzle with the lever, but that may just be because I'm not good at puzzle games!

Babysitting Simulator by LeXian 2021-10-06T23:02:48Z

The art on this is fantastic, really cute and nice! I had trouble with figuring out how to beat the monsters.. but then I saw your note about time constraints, no worries. After reading those instructions, I was able to beat back the monsters and save the city and raise my kid! Really fun and well balanced gameplay, only wish there was some way to tell how close to destruction the city was. Great job you guys!

Packages On Ice by c4ris 2021-10-04T22:18:49Z

Why would they build shops right in front of an icy lake? Good thing they have the skating delivery girl! This was actually pretty close to one of the ideas my team was thinking of doing before settling on a different idea, really good execution! This game is adorable, the hand drawn assets mixed with the music and nice sfx make the entire experience very enjoyable and chill. Gameplay is very simple but very fun, i love it. My high score is 11 btw.

Sleep by sir_onionknight 2021-10-05T19:33:22Z

In the end, I was more worried about my dad catching me than about the demon that comes for me in my sleep... lost my sanity before daytime :( . I really enjoyed the little touches in this game, that you could see the shadow of your dad near the door, the sound effects, it was all very nice! Also the about section is so sad!

Soob's Farm by Sorrysaurus 2021-10-07T04:24:08Z

Really nice and cute animations and style. Really challenging resource management, my poor pigs got eaten so much! I totally agree with the previous comments that some indications visual or audio that the pigs were eaten would be nice to have. Good job on this guys!

Lovecrafting by Concker_88 2021-10-05T02:26:19Z

This game is so fun! It starts out a bit strange and I didn't really understand.. but the game does a good job of showing instead of telling, and I got a lot better as I played and started learning! Really great job on this, looks and sounds amazing as well.

It is rainy by DeltaMain 2021-10-04T19:29:09Z

The minigames are pretty darn tough, but I really enjoyed the atmosphere. Unfortunately I got shot on day 2 :( Really really love the little effects with sleeping/turning the lights off, etc, they all go a long way for the atmosphere.

Diamonds in the Rough by animawish 2021-10-06T04:57:08Z

The mechanics on this is so well thought out! Only thing I'd suggest is that the tutorial needs to be just a tad more on the digestable side, the way it was set up was a tiny bit too text-dump-ey for something you view before you ever try playing the game. I had to play the game, go back to the tutorial, then go back to playing the game before I really understood what was going on. The choice of number of elements was perfect though, and the way that the snakes imitate the bombs, which you're incentivized to recklessly works so well! The way the magnifying glass works is so clever too, and felt so good with the UX touches. Really great job overall!
