LD42 — Running out of space

The Compactor by Skosnowich 2018-09-01T18:06:12Z

This one definitely throws you in the deep end! The hectic pace is pretty fun, and you really have to use all 4 people to their fullest.

A couple improvements I'd suggest - searching shouldn't require an extra click, since no other interaction needs one and they can find trash anywhere. I also I wish there was an indicator over their heads so I could tell who was selected without having to look down at the UI. I definitely had a few flubs where I just didn't have the right person selected in a tense moment.

Squirrel's Revenge by AXaViaN 2018-09-01T16:45:05Z

Even if the sounds and art were "programmer" quality, they were utilized well - I liked that the stereo effect on the woodcutters could help me locate them in the forest.

I would have liked to see a separate sound effect for stunning a woodcutter, because from what I could tell the sound was the same whether the nuts collided with a tree or a woodcutter. A sound for them becoming un-stunned would be helpful as well.

I also found it frustrating that the stumps blocked my shots. I think trees should block but not stumps.

Anti-Automata by thegunmaster 2018-09-01T17:07:42Z

Lots of great aesthetic feeling to this game from the sounds, graphics, screen shake, and music. Quite fun and a great execution on the theme! The move-and-attack mechanic felt a little off to me, but it did force me to consider my choices carefully. I wonder if reversing it so you attack away from your movement like a recoil would feel better? I'm on an older Macbook Air, and I did have performance issues when there was a lot of destruction to be done, just FYI.

Running out of Space by tharemo 2018-09-01T17:28:55Z

The visuals and atmosphere in the intro cutscene were nice! Gameplay was a bit short but I stuck around a few extra moments to appreciate the music. Hope you find extra motivation next time because you can make some good stuff!

Trattoria by Rongo Matane 2018-09-01T17:56:58Z

An impressive scope for a jam game, I would have never attempted something like this! The space management was definitely the most interesting part, but the UI for handling it was a bit painful, especially when moving a full set of table and 4 chairs. Drag and drop or double-click to move would have been really nice. Nice job overall!

Dodge and pray by mAnimal 2018-09-01T17:22:58Z

This one is pretty challenging and fun for such a simple concept! I really appreciated the super-fast reset on death, I ended up playing quite a few rounds!

I found myself dying to a random bullet more than feeling like the space is what did me in. I felt sluggish and wish my ship was just a bit faster; speeding it up would have made me feel a little more in control and able to experience a lack of space rather than a lack of reflexes.

Claustrophobia (the walls are closing in) by CBdeVilla 2018-09-01T16:55:45Z

This game hits on the theme quite well! I definitely enjoyed the feeling of slowly being overcome by the walls and bugs. While the rate of fire works well to that effect, I didn't like the lack of agency I felt. If there was just one special move I could choose to use, like an extra burst of bullet(s) on a cooldown or something, that would give the game a new layer of depth and strategy.

LD51 — Every 10 seconds

TENSEC tactics by praleks 2022-10-21T17:16:41Z

There's a lot in this game, nice work! The art is sweet, super cool that your upgraded units upgrade in appearance too! Is there a max level of upgrade? Because, I tried to upgrade a high-level unit once and nothing happened and then it died...devastating loss!

I think the game is a bit too luck-based at the moment, making the difficulty quite high and outside the control of the player. Although, it was fun to discover ways to squeeze value out of my cards, such as waiting to heal or level up at the lowest possible health level.

Also, I think giving players only one new card per 10 seconds is too slow, since I found myself doing a lot of watching and waiting, sometimes helplessly as my units die. Maybe there are some rare ways to get extra cards, such as defeating the extra-strong boss enemies?

Sweetheart Speedrun by Snowdrama 2022-10-21T15:21:23Z

Nice use of the theme! I definitely felt the urgency every 10 seconds as I was zipping around the space.

I think it was just a tad too difficult to find and get to the different items. You could compress the size of the space a bit, or maybe zoom out the view a little more. Or, give the player a little more information about where things are, such as putting icons on the map, or on-screen pointers towards the current items. Then it becomes more of an optimization and navigation problem, rather than pure memorization. Or, maybe you group the items more thematically, so if my date wants something techy, I know I should go to the techy area.

I'm glad I had tons of speed to get around, that was nice and fun. The audio and music were really nice, I really liked how you did a subdued version of the music while she was giving you a new assignment. Good work!

Chef Jeff wants you! by jkniest 2022-10-21T16:27:46Z

Impressive amount of work for a 72h hour jam, especially with the polished art! And, I definitely lol'd at the front page hat graphic.

Difficulty-wise, this is pretty overwhelming at first, with so many recipes and ingredients available at once. And as I'm trying to wrap my head around the options, the monster eats my assistant chefs?! That's a brutal negative spiral.

The assistant chefs are a really cool innovation though, allowing you to do an Overcooked-style game solo!

SPACE PARIAH by DS Nahogara 2022-10-21T17:49:18Z

Wonderful atmosphere, I love the combo of 2D and 3D!

Accidentally ending the game by pressing esc was a huge bummer! I just wanted to look at the controls but accidentally lost my progress, including a sweet laser gun that I got from the aliens I killed. On my 2nd run, I didn't get a gun :(

Elementary Defence! by Paulsams 2022-10-21T17:01:06Z

Love the hand-drawn art, and there was so much of it! So many different enemies, towers, and combinations, each with multiple animations!

Dreihander by Defrag 2022-10-21T16:46:27Z

One of the most polished and complete-feeling games I've played thus far! I'd say the difficulty ramp-up was a bit harsh, but to each their own! The main difficulty issues I have are aiming being on a delay, and enemies being easily able outpace you, even with a (presumably?) upgraded engine.

Memory mini game. by Geo3D 2022-10-21T15:38:02Z

Great use of the theme but 10 seconds became way too short after a certain point. My brain decided it was done after the 9th slot appeared, hahah! Definitely gave me practice thinking of different ways to associate them together and/or speak the icons out loud and use my auditory memory to help.

A small tweak I'd love is to allow swapping icons in the top row. Right now you have to vacate a slot by dragging it into a different empty slot, then drag the desired one into the previous slot.

Jupiter & Arcana Travel Through the Nevermore by fae.pdf 2022-10-21T15:55:57Z

I really loved when the timing of the bass drop coincided with the end of the 10s timer. Excellent aesthetic experience overall, but especially with the audio and SFX!

I was intrigued that you could choose not to reply, so on my 2nd play-through I tried doing literally nothing. The outcome was not what I expected!

Paddle Swap Arcanoid by LordSaber 2022-10-21T16:52:39Z

Awesome work for a first time jam AND going solo! It's definitely difficult to pack in all the details under those circumstances, so I can see why you weren't able to implement a lot of audio. However, it would be a great improvement to add a ticking sound for the final 3 seconds of each 10-second loop, to help warn the player when the switch is about to occur.

10 seconds old by TheEkinnox 2022-10-21T17:38:53Z

Cool concept! Loved how each stage of life had some humor in it, especially the baby sound effect. But...why, oh why, do I get stunned when I age up?

I also wish that de-aging was handled differently. As cute as the baby was, I was annoyed at having to revert back to it repeatedly. I would much rather de-aging be a choice rather than being forced to do it whenever I change rooms. Perhaps a de-aging power-up appears in the middle whenever you clear a room? Then, I'm making a risk assessment - if I don't de-age, can I clear the next room before dying of old age?

Ghost Room by Stephen Kyranakis 2022-10-21T16:38:17Z

It was a little unclear what the power-up did until I purposefully didn't collect it and took unavoidable damage. It would be nice to have a little more player feedback to tell them when the 10s timer is about to be up, as would some kind of extra feedback (SFX and animation?) showing that the shield has successfully fended off the 10s attack. But of course, these things are polish that is difficult to achieve in a 72h jam!

I did enjoy that the power-up gives me a concrete goal to achieve other than "avoid", that was great! I loved the little details in the art, such as the paintings on the walls and the bullet animations. And, the rhythm created by the bullets and ticking clock was a nice touch!

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Twine Walker by RockhopperGames 2018-05-15T04:03:56Z

Quite an effective and unique take on the theme! I only wish the text you were standing on was more readable.

Solitary by FuriousWitch 2018-05-15T03:37:08Z

Seemed like my catapults weren't working, so I felt a bit helpless. But I really like the idea of going between collection and defense phases!

Evil Bunny by PonchoGuy 2018-05-15T03:52:46Z

A lot of innocent bro bunnies were consumed to meet the goals of the supreme leader

A-Card Shooter by Markus 2018-05-15T04:29:24Z

Really nice entry! Nice feeling of progression and strategy with cards and deckbuilding, and the gold collection was satisfying, especially at the end of each wave.

Peckbuilding by maysick 2018-05-15T03:28:27Z

Nice pun, and fun too! I really like the predictive strategy of it. I found the wound mechanic to be a bit punishing, maybe tone down the appearance of wound cards for better balance and fun?
