LD46 — Keep it alive

Livefire by lonewookie 2020-04-20T15:38:29Z

Really good game, simple concept and mechanics but I couldn't stop playing! The use of twigs and logs for different types of fuel works well and is intuitive to understand, even if it's hard to plan around that when the new blocks coming down are random. But that's part of the challenge when playing! Loved the graphics, overall great job

GRAVITY. by ben657 2020-04-20T11:31:44Z

Very fun game. The oribitng is challenging to pull off and thus rewarding when you get it, and gameplay is smooth. At first I was frustrated that orbits aren't stable, but it makes total sense from a design perspective to push players to keep moving. I'm really impressed by projected path line, is it just using an algorithm that takes in all the gravitational forces? All in all, well done!

A Cold Walk Home by Stefanie Leitch 2020-04-20T12:13:09Z

Really enjoyable game, feels very complete with a consistent style for graphics, audio, and mechanics. Only thing that seemed weird was there was no consequence for being hit by creatures, unless I missed that while playing (note: emulated on Linux using Wine). Nice job!

PLANETORUS2 by cottontshirtz 2020-04-21T02:35:12Z

Good core gameplay here, I think just adding some scoring like time or coins would make it even better. Having the red obstacles turn into holes after a delay was a really interesting approach! I found it fairly easy to stay alive when on the inside of the torus compared to the outside so maybe you could add incentives to push players to the outside. Nice job!

Electorite by Fireshake 2020-04-21T02:19:34Z

Very fun! It's not clear that ENTER is the 'Start' button, but otherwise controls are great. Liked the artwork and audio, although the outline on the mushroom sprite makes them stand out and seem important, whereas the actual enemies and goal don't stand out as much visually. Otherwise great job!

🌸 Conway's Garden Life by joonamo 2020-04-20T14:52:54Z

Very nice idea, taking a classic concept and expanding on it with 3 different types of flowers, takes it beyond the original "game". Visuals are great and the whole aesthetic is very pleasant. Love being able to see the layouts others used for their high-scores. Nice job!

IcyNoid by XCVZXC 2020-04-21T11:20:51Z

Very fun game! The music was especially catchy, and the variety of obstacles were nice additions to this kind of game, made it feel unique. Nice job!

Snowy Night by Roalinn 2020-04-21T11:07:33Z

Very well put together, even though the goals were simple they were presented very elegantly with specific places to complete them back by the deer giving you an extra in-world reminder. The variety of goals also made it full much more full than simply collecting more of a single things would. It really feels complete, almost like a demo to a full game. Well done!

Ice Ice Baby by Fabrizio Spadaro 2020-04-20T10:41:06Z

Great mechanics, the screen tilting is fantastic and tying speed/jump to the size is very clever. Creates an incentive to actually melt yourself down a bit! Visuals are very nice too, overall great job!

8-Bit of Farming by StinkyKitty 2020-04-21T05:50:50Z

Fairly addicting game, although it feels like a bit of a grind. The beginning is really slow, then things pick up when in the middle, then slow down a bit a the end. I like the style of visuals and audio, although I couldn't figure out what was bobbing on the player's face. I think balancing prices a bit more could fix the pacing/grind problems. Overall a fun little game!

Kindling by armytag 2020-04-20T11:01:47Z

@jelle-vermandere The darkness was a bit tricky to balance, I still don't think I understand the "color modulate" effects that create that, with a bit more work it might be easier to balance the shadow brightness. Part of me wants it to be ultimately impossible, butI do like your suggestion of enhancing/changing the gameplay over time (e.g. speed). Thanks!

@fakefrogsonly Thanks for the feedback! I agree about lacking incentives to explore, I added a few ruins at the end but didn't have time to really add to the world.

Keep the flame alive by Dimling 2020-04-20T08:37:08Z

Made it on the third try! Fun game, especially like the sound bar so you don't *have* to hear it to still enjoy.

One thing I noticed is that diagonal movement is faster than horizontal or vertical movement, not sure if that was intended but one way to avoid that is to use a vector, normalize it to get the overall direction and then multiply the length to the proper speed. Not sure if that's clear, but I think it's a pretty common problem that would be easy to look up. It's just a small suggestion though, and the faster diagonal actually helped me get away from the spiders so I enjoyed exploiting it

Reforest by Fizzget 2020-04-20T10:27:33Z

Absolutely fantastic, I really like having a tabletop submission here. Visuals were great, everything was clear and obvious. Only thing I missed would be some tokens or something to keep track of items I use from parts.

The rules took a little time to get used to, but actually are very clear and intuitive. Pruning took the longest to figure out, and two thing that still aren't clear are whether you can use item from grown parts on the same turn (I just assumed not), and what the Regrow card does (I assumed it regrows the current part without item cost). Besides that, thoroughly enjoyed playing and may even try it out with some friends to see how it works with multiple players! Nice job!

Stranded Pirates by Nawreua 2020-04-20T08:11:10Z

I finally made it to day 5! The graphics made it hard to see some things, like where you could walk, and I played it more than 10 times before I figured out where the water was. Fun to try and find the efficient strategy!

The Battery by ilidanox 2020-04-20T10:20:52Z

Solid game! Everything works very well, mechanics are smooth, gameplay is intuitive and fun, and the graphics are really good especially for your first time! The use of ambient lighting to show how much power/time is left is also a great effect. Nice job!

Also, the basic enemies kinda look like brightly colored cows to me for some reason, very funny when they're chasing me around the room.

Core by ZenithSal 2020-04-20T08:51:16Z

I got to 137 seconds, found it really fun to swipe at the cubes with the sides of my shield! I liked that there were multiple stages, not sure how far it goes but really enjoyed it. And the music is great as well, really fits with the visual style and sound effects.

Feed da Boss! by Eli Palmer 2020-04-21T02:45:46Z

Great game, both challenging and rewarding. I found the fish bouncing a bit frustrating, seemed to really depend on how the fish was angled when it hit which was out of my control, but still great to play with. It seemed like more food was given when the hunger got low, which is a great touch if that's the case. Audio and visuals were really good and worked very well together. Nicely done all around!

Garden of Error by Soulcube 2020-04-21T03:00:47Z

Great presentation, especially the graphics! Gameplay seemed easy at first, but when the predators started appearing it became really tough to manage everything! It would be nice to have a way to quickly choose a food to put down, like selecting one by pressing a number key. Excellent work overall!

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Loopy Boy by rex64 2020-10-07T03:20:21Z

Very fun concept! Had some trouble figuring out the jump at first, especially because they didn't always seem to happen properly mid-air (or maybe I'm just bad lol). Because you allow changes during the loop and you have the slots arranged in a rectangular grid, it really made me want to use my keyboard to input commands rapidly, like mapping 1,2,3,4,5... to the walking slots and Q,W,E,R,T... to the jumping slots and so on for frantic control!

Reactor Cycles by Dock Frankenstein 2020-10-07T03:09:01Z

Tough to figure out what to do, and in what particular order. Some more feedback on how tasks are related would be very helpful. Very fun concept though, especially messing with the player's input!

Through Cosmos by Hadryel 2020-10-07T03:45:35Z

Amazing graphics, like others have said! Shooting is a little off, and it seemed like all the resources gave 3 each time, so scaling the requirements down and making resources 1 to 1 (e.g. a tree give 1 wood) would simplify things. Just my opinion though, everything else was great!

Stuck in a Loo by Xenon27 2020-10-07T03:27:21Z

Brilliant take on the theme, and hilariously executed! Some kind of simple score keeping is all that's stopping me from playing this for hours!

Mouseherd by typeswitch 2020-10-07T02:51:57Z

Fun concept and well executed! Last level was particularly tricky for me, but got it in the end. Using the player's movement to keep score was a great idea, really encourages replaying your game to try and get a better score!

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Type Fisher by breadstix 2021-04-27T01:57:03Z

Fun game! There graphics weren't that bad, they had a bit of charm to them, although I would have liked to see my fishing line so I'd know when I'd cast it. Also, it would be nice if the points were somewhat related to the length of the words, I managed to get "parthenogenesis smoking" but just got the normal reward :( Seemed to change difficulty with the different locations too, which is a nice feature. Good work!

Lonely Journey by blockerz 2021-04-30T15:46:46Z

I enjoyed playing this. It definitely got boring, which seemed to be your intention. I think it would help to let the fuel and power recharge while you sleep, the tedium is present enough just when trying to maneuver. The messages from Journey 1 were fun to read, and thankfully didn't require anything more than hitting sleep again. It would be nice to be able to send messages of my own, even though they wouldn't reach Journey 1, they would reinforce my own isolation but also make the game more engaging. I didn't notice any sound, and I think it would be better with something even if it's just white noise or occasional beeps. The premise reminds me a lot of a web "comic", you should definitely check it out if you haven't already! https://www.sbnation.com/a/17776-football/chapter-1

Overall, well done!

Clear Your Mind by Quoclon 2021-04-27T01:43:27Z

Fun and simple little game. It was tricky figuring out how the emotions would bounce, I guess I'm too used to rectangular boundaries! Could use some music, but for a first compo it's a great submission! Congrats!

Down Dog by Scowling Pastry 2021-04-30T15:56:00Z

Great game! It's feels very complete and polished. My only complaint would be that the boss didn't seem to have feedback when it was damaged, I was actually surprised when I suddenly won because I didn't know if I'd even hurt it yet. Overall well done!

Deep Sea Discoveries by Lithia Studios 2021-04-27T02:07:10Z

Great game! The art and sound were well done and satisfying. It also seemed like it would adjust the difficulty based on how well I did the previous time, which is a fantastic feature if it was intentional! Well done!

Adventure: Depths & Dangers by yulotomorrow 2021-04-30T15:18:58Z

Great game! This has been a lesson to me in how to make a game that looks great while using basically no animated sprites (the swords scraping on the ground was a fantastic touch). It was great to mix a reflex game with a slower puzzle game, both simple but well executed. If I had one complaint, it would be that the ending with the scroll felt unrelated to the rest of the gameplay, with a 4th-wall-breaking "error" with no obvious connection to the plot. Just a minor thing though, overall well done!

Deep Sleep by Brad Make Games 2021-04-30T14:48:49Z

Very cohesive game, everything fits together with the gameplay and the plot. I already had suspected what the real problem was by the 2nd minigame, so you did a great job foreshadowing. Don't know if this was intentional, but the best strategy I found for the first minigame was running in a big circle along the edge, which reminded me of a spinning clock like the hypnotist would use, very cool! Well done!

The Witching Hour by DamonWakes 2021-04-27T01:29:04Z

Love to see a Twine game! Very nice story, and the text manipulation (especially the mouse-over effect) was great for drawing me in. Well done!
