Woah, really nice! Some puzzles were too hard, though.

lazertrax 2019-04-30 18:25

Cool puzzles! The entire game setting reminded me closely of The Binding of Isaac. The weapons have a really good feel to them especially the mallet! Really well done!

nelson-william 2019-04-30 18:25

This is the best entry I've seen so far! Really polished, with great graphics, music and even voice over. The gameplay is very tight and is really enjoyable. I'm very impressed by this!

jesusache 2019-04-30 18:29

Insane amounts of polish. The sound is great, the graphics and animations are great, and the puzzles are super dope. Every criticism I have is super nitpicky. Like I wish the cursor was a bit more noticeable, and some i-frames when you respawn, because those golems can really gang up on you. (I thought I could dash over gaps). Best regards to the whole team, they did an excellent job on each task!

bragou 2019-04-30 19:33

Nice Game ! And well played for coding this in Lua, I can smell hours of hard work ! Keep going guys !

hare-software 2019-05-01 12:51

Great amount of work for the short amount of time you had. The voice acting is amazing and really adds to the experience. The levels are increasingly challenging, but are not impossible (or skipable). graphics are lovely and quite detailed too. Well done to the whole team!

mateusboga 2019-05-01 12:56

Holy crap why does this game not get more attention? This is quality stuff! The amount of work that was put into the narration and visuals is incredible!

I do have some things that really grind my gears about this game, but that's because I *really* want this to turn into a fully-fleshed out game:

- I dislike the fact that you can get cornered by enemies, makes some fights unfair - I hate the fact that once you replace an item you can't equip the old item again, it just disapears - Some items get stuck inside walls / fall inside holes I can't get to - I dislike the fact that you lose your armor if you get hit too many times - I hate the fact that you can't backtrack and can accidentally exit a room when you still had stuff to do there - I don't get why armor does not affect your stats and only weapons do, at least as far as I can see

Anyway, that is my feedback. I hope it helps! Excellent work! Would play again!

hugonun 2019-05-01 13:41

Great game, had fun playing it. Mateusboga already pointed out most of the things, but other than that, what I can suggest is to make the game harder. I ended the game with +40HP left.

Let us know when you will make a postjam version, I would be happy to play it :)

miroreflect 2019-05-01 15:07

Wow! Just wow. The game felt really polished and great. The only things that could have really been fixed are the drops. If you killed someone near the walls their drops had a possibility of getting inside the walls unattainable and the stats of weapons that went inside the walls could not have really read. However they were such small things that they didn't really bother me while I played your game.

Amazing work!

josefnpat 2019-05-01 20:59

As usual, a really solid entry! Fantastic work - I loved playing all the levels and they felt fun and rewarding. I wish there was an end scene of some sort - I feel like cutting right to the credits sort of left that feeling flat right after the last boss. Regardless, amazing! Great job!

ryusui 2019-05-01 23:15

Props to my fellow Love2D developer!

Absolutely amazing from front to back. The only issue I had is that there seem to be some bugs with the sprite layering - dead "statue" enemies tend to appear behind floor obstacles. Other than that, easily one of the most polished Ludum Dare entries I've ever seen, period!

carraka 2019-05-01 23:21

Great game, super polished. I would've liked more of an ending after defeating the boss. I mean, was I really found worthy, or did they just throw me into another dungeon? The voice acting was a great touch, but for me, the best part of the audio was the shouting in the cutscene at the beginning, and the dramatic choral singing in the very last level. It makes me want to go back and retroactively downgrade every audio rating I've given so far just so your five star in audio can really mean something.

Well done! My most nitpicky things were not being able to pick up coins/items that fell into a wall, accidentally walking into the next room and never being able to pick up my loot, and not ever figuring out what any of the icons meant for whether a weapon is better (in game). Now that I read your entry more carefully, I see that that information is on your page, but it would really be better to be in the game somehow. I didn't think any of the puzzles were too difficult (they were all just the right amount, in that they could be solved without thinking if you didn't feel like thinking), and whenever I was cornered, I enjoyed either the increased difficulty or the reward I get for not planning out my movement ahead of time.

minemes 2019-05-01 23:22

Sometimes the coins stuck in the walls

loiclegrosfrere 2019-05-01 23:43

There is a problem with the loading on each rooms on my side (room didn't finish to load, but my character move)

Btw it's really impressive what you have done with löve, if you have some tips, I take them, with my team, we had some ... troubles with löve :s

hubol 2019-05-02 00:27

This game is fine. I liked the art in the intro cutscene the most. I wish the hints / dialog in the levels had text with them because they are kind of hard to hear. I ended with just under 80 life tokens, it was kind of easy. I didn't really feel like choosing to open a chest or pay money to solve a puzzle was really a hard choice or a risk. The combat was basically the same for every enemy even though they looked different. The music wasn't very interesting. The animation for losing a coin is kind of awkward I kept thinking I could pick it up.

nihilaleph 2019-05-02 00:51

Awesome game! As already stated, super polished and great mood! I also liked the style and all the voice work~ Only minor complaints would be the drops sometimes getting on unreachable places, and the controls felt a bit stiff on attack and slippery on walking. The shadow of some things also made them look like floating. Great work!

jvolonte 2019-05-02 01:46

Outstanding! Loved the art. Great work on narrations, combat mechanics are on point. There were even puzzles! With a way to get them solved if you couldn't. Truly amazing work, congratulations!

zax 2019-05-02 08:41

The art is amazing I feel the binding of isaac vibe when I play it . really well made ! keep it up

ninjacatz 2019-05-02 09:07

Yay I beat it! Very well-made game in the style of Rogue-Like! Just do not quite understand why the inventory is needed. Played calmly without it :yum:

rakowu 2019-05-02 10:04

wow incredible entry O.o Great artwork and behaviour.

xahell 2019-05-02 10:12

Excellent execution, 5 stars in overall, completely deserved. We can see you are veterans with many games behind you and with already some experience with rogue-likes.

The graphics are also very polished.

The game was easy (to me), but I'm used to this kind of game, so it was really just attack+dash, repeat, unlock rare weapon, stomp over the game.

The puzzle are classics, easy to understand, easy to solve, but it provides a good distraction and increases the game overall fun.

Thumb up for doing a finished and polished game.

edit: Ah yes, small thing, when you put an UI element into the scene, make sure it uses distinguishable colors. I tried WAY TOO OFTEN to pick my own cursor :P

yorsh 2019-05-02 10:22

Really well made ! The voice over is incredible, art is polished, feels good to play... The only thing that bothered me is the transition between rooms. I couldn't figure out fast enough where I was most of the time and ended up getting hit. Making the character stand out more (like Link being the only green thing on screen most of the time), or making the camera move from a room to another could really help.

flamus 2019-05-02 10:25

So beatifull game and smart puzzles! Great job!

mashupgames 2019-05-02 10:57

Very good game! Was really impressed with the music, sound and art with this one. The gameplay did get a little repetitive towards the end but was fun nonetheless. A lot more features than I was expecting.

wojciech 2019-05-02 11:15

Impressive amount of work done. Fighting mechanic is easy to grasp and enjoyable but kind of too easy. I like the story aspect a lot and the customization. It's the little things that count here. The puzzles and amount of levels was also great. There were just a couple but this is one of them - games that are not just jam games but full fledged ones. Oh and the edges were a bit too punishing. Overall a great game with very little flaws.

nebrazif 2019-05-02 11:17

That was a really interesting gameplay, with a good progressive difficulty ! GG to all the member of the team !

aitalvasilev 2019-05-02 12:30

The game is **crazy** good. I have no idea how you guys managed to make **this** in just three days and on Lua no less! Everything from sound design and graphics to voice acting is absolutely stunning. Phenomenal work!

annie-owl 2019-05-02 17:43

Damn, what an entry. That's probably one of the best games I've played so far on this jam. Music is great and it's always good to see actual voice acting in jam games. The gameplay is solid and lots of fun. Guardians design and overall look of the game is perfect.

I guess the only complaint I can make is that it was too easy. The game was too generous in giving me life coins almost every room. And also there was a little bug: when you kill an enemy near the wall, his drop will spawn on the wall and you would not be able to pick it up.

But other than these minor complaints, the game was just great!

douglima 2019-05-02 20:44

Amazing entry, one of the best for sure. The music is enjoyable, the battle works great, the art style is very well executed. I just wish I could have the option to select which item from the ground to equip, sometimes it gets a little convoluted. Overall a SUPER well done jam game!

jedineeson 2019-05-02 21:49

This game is so pretty! Gg!!! Come take a look at our game I would love to get your feedbacks!

zubspace 2019-05-02 22:10

Really great game! Wonderful graphics, music, sound effects and speech! The start menu is excellent! I like that you highlight incoming enemy attacks.

Only a few tiny nitpicks: * I finished the game with 85 hearts and a single weapon pickup (the hammer) on the first try. That means, it's a tad too easy. Would be ok though, if this was just the start of a larger game. * The enemies are too predictable. Would be nice to have different kinds of enemies with different types of weapons. Ranged weapons or magic spells would have been awesome. * I love how you show which weapon stats are better than the currently equipped. Maybe the same system could be used for armor? * Some chests need to have worse negative effects than just reducing one heart. * The orb puzzles are ok. But they also slow down the pacing to a crawl. I actually don't like that very much.

But overall a very very good game. Kudos!

pixelsplash 2019-05-02 22:23

Now that is a good dungeon crawler!!!! Your game is amazing!!! I will not repeat what everyone have already said, maybe only that I loved the rhythmic vibe of the game. I will only give some ideas if you want to keep working on it.

I would prefer a big winning more rewarding final scene than a long intro. Maybe a little of a coin attraction (as with a magnet) for those little coin bugs. Blood and more visual effects in general.

Really loved this one, it is my kind of game.

kunonooni 2019-05-03 01:39

In my eyes you all won the Jam! This game was phenomenal and hands down the best Jam game I have played to date! My only complaint was the lack of a proper ending and yeah maybe the weapon balance but other that that I loved every action packed, voice acted, puzzle thinking minute of this game! Well Done and congrats on completing the Jam!

randomphantom 2019-05-03 12:14

Really cool customisation, weapon selection, and you even had puzzles interspersed within! The hitboxes are a little odd and the combat could be improved, however the gameplay was sound and 5 stars for fun.

patcot 2019-05-03 14:50

This was a delight to play. I love the art and the puzzles, and I'm happy to say my only minor frustration was with coins/life dropping in unreachable places. But otherwise, great game!

kuviman 2019-05-03 15:00

Very good game, but all my coins were stuck in the walls :)

alienplay 2019-05-03 15:25

I like that you added character customization, it's a nice touch. It's very well polished and fun to play game. It felt to me, though, that I fell into pits a bit randomly. IDK what happened there it's just felt a bit off. But overall, it's a great game with awesome graphics and nice music. I also liked the simplicity of fighting mechanic a lot!

neithernathan 2019-05-03 23:06

Very nice game, a few glitches but normal to a Jam game. I liked this game a lot, i liked how it mixed combat with puzzle, very nice. I also liked the combat system in which you can see when the enemy is going to strike a hit. the game is fun and seems balanced to the part i've played. i only have two complaints: - It doesn't connect well to the theme (but if it makes the game good, go for it) - I really hate virus/chain puzzles (those in which you turn on a lamp and turn off the ones of the side)

But in general the game is pretty nice :D

iarwain 2019-05-04 10:10

Impressive entry. The controls felt quite good and I liked the inertia on the enemies which made dashing around them even more fun. The mix of puzzle and combat elements was well done.

I also appreciated small polish details such as the cursor animation when clicking.

My (minor) gripe was about the windowed mode, I wish there were some way to capture the cursor or at least that the game would pause when out of focus as I kept clicking a lot outside of the window boundaries and had to alt-tab back in panic during the frenzy of combat encounters!

The game felt a bit on the easy side or, more likely, I got lucky with the weapon drops. =)

Lastly, I was very pleased to see that you used Löve and not Unity!

Overall, a great entry, thanks!

tommyflower 2019-05-04 13:55

I literally screamed in excitement! :D Spent some really good time here. The music is fantastic, makes you want to dash all time. The concept of paying with life fits the theme perfectly, the graphics are neat and I loved "camera position" on the scene. The animations are clear and satisfying and if it's a bit easy I don't bother, it just lower frustration and the important thing is you keep having fun all the time. The intro sequence is really really beautiful. I love intros and try to always add it to games. Here it was perfectly crafted: loved the acting and echo effect on the voice, made me shiver. One of the best games around :)

seizethedia 2019-05-04 14:21

Had a TON of fun with this, great job. The world hinted at by the cutscenes, art, and audio make me curious for more. Some of the design choices I appreciated the most were:

- Enemies don't all immediately see you when you go into a room (makes for some tactical maneuvering)

- The way the weapon swings opposite to the mouse

- Equipment doesn't bog you down or keep you reading stats, just pick up the better one and go

Would love to see Enemies be affected by traps :D that would be fun to "entice" them to walk into them.

mika-la-grand 2019-05-06 16:54

The music and art was nice. It was good that enemies telegraph before attacking and don't all attack you at once when entering a room, however they don't get damaged by obstacles. I also didn't really like the puzzles and they were all based on the same mechanic. There were also multiple times that pick-ups from defeated enemies would spawn on the walls, so that I couldn't pick them up.

majadroid 2019-05-06 20:59

Sadly the game doesn't run on my system (Win7). The programm starts and stucks with a light blue screen :(

simon-rahnasto 2019-05-06 21:50

@majadroid Could you provide me with a screenshot of said blue screen? Also did you download the Windows or Multi-platform version?

miu 2019-05-07 12:16

Nice game, I just have two or three things that didn't worked for me: first is that I had trouble understanding new dialogue because I had a bug where old ones where constantly playing over the new ones. Having written dialogues would be nice.

majadroid 2019-05-07 19:10

@simon-rahnasto It is the windows version with the executable.

Error.png

simon-rahnasto 2019-05-08 16:43

@majadroid That looks like an error screen, the strange part is that there is no text. When you get the error screen can you press "Ctrl" + "C" and see if you get an error message copied into your clipboard.

Did you extract all of the files into a folder? You should have the PathofRedemption.exe file together with 7 .dll files in a folder. It should look like this:

game.png

If you have no error in your clipboard, and you did indeed extract all the files into a folder, and you do have 7 .dll files as well as the .exe file in said folder. Then I am kind of out of ideas. I'm guessing it could be a shader having an issue with your graphics card or something similar.

majadroid 2019-05-08 19:32

@simon-rahnasto Thanks for your support. Yes, by copying the invisible, I found this error message:

boot.lua:440: Cannot link shader program object: Fragment shader(s) failed to link, vertex shader(s) failed to link. unexpected error. unexpected error.

So it seems it won't work on my PC :(

Love the art style and the Zelda-esque layout. There's an insane amount of polish in this game for the time period, so well done on that. Even the health UI has a little animation. I'd love to see more development from you all in the future! Maybe add some subtitles when reading the slabs just to include both audio and visual feedback. It can be easier to follow with the text just in case I miss something! Great game

randomhuman 2019-05-16 20:43

Wow, this game really has everything! It's absolutely astounding how much content ye've managed to pack in here, and it's all incredibly well polished, and well balanced. Probably the most fun I've had with an entry this LD, and with amazing art and audio to match.

karai17 2019-05-17 02:01

High production value as always~

kuro 2019-10-09 14:50

I just finished this, and had to tell you someone is still playing this, 6 months after the jam. Great game!
