LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

Lord Wars by berkano 2014-12-12T19:25:00

Really well done strategy game! Although battles are random the game itself is pretty good. Nicely done within the short amount of time!

Little Dude's Epic Adventure by Jim Haslett 2014-12-10T16:30:00

Very nice little adventure there. Narrator rocks, there`s not much of them in games nowadays... Liked it!

Shvoel by dvdking 2014-12-12T19:15:00

Whao, this is quite challenging and fun! Nice variety and a nice soundtrack also. Like it!

Tragic Error by Boberro 2014-12-10T16:21:00

@mrexcessive: you can drag the circles.

Very short but interesting so far. I don`t know if there are more supported commands at the door besides the one that progresses you further. Unfortunately it kind of violates the theme of the contest in my opinion...

Symphony of the night by FoxFiesta 2014-12-12T19:41:00

Although i literally hate music puzzles in general, this is nicely done. Respect for your work here. I struggled a little bit with the last part, but other than that i have nothing to complain about. Great entry!

Grind like LudumDare by ItsSacraficed 2014-12-09T16:47:00

Well there`s not much in it. It also misses the theme of "Entire game on one screen". Sorry, this needs a lot of work.

GrinderX by Msquirrel 2014-12-09T15:33:00

I´m not a big fan of bullet hell games. Though this is a solid implementation of one. Nice variety of enemies. Put some background music and actual graphics in it and it is a nice game! Not bad!

BUMP! by Toki Anholmes 2014-12-09T12:36:00

Nice game with interesting ideas. Graphics and sound are really unique and make it outstanding. The game needs some bugfixing though as i touched the floor or could stand on those spiky violett monsters several times without dying. Nice work though!

TMO by aaronjbaptiste 2014-12-14T11:17:00

This is really impressive! I´d love to see a more fleshed out version of this!

Fibonacci Grid by Andrew Adams 2014-12-10T16:56:00

Very nice and interesting approach to the theme. Those who are into math will love it!

A Major Mystery by bobismijnnaam 2014-12-09T18:10:00

Nice approach to the theme. In it current state the game lacks some more mechanics to be really fun. Worth expanding!

Protect The Fire by Laks8 2014-12-08T15:29:00

A tower defense game in raw prototype stage. While it is solid so far, there are two things bugging me:

- All towers have a shared target instead of shooting their nearest target
- Towers should have a little bit of health

This two things combined make it quite difficult to get into the game.

ScreenArena by tiffi 2014-12-08T20:56:00

Well done arena fighting game here! The progression/upgrade system is really nice and the screen shaking effect is not at all as disturbing as i have seen it on many other games. Overall this is a nice base for further development!

Worms by longloaf 2014-12-12T19:06:00

Those poor worms! But you got me with the ending!

Follow the screen by SumGato 2014-12-09T17:57:00

Nice idea! Not what i typically call a game but there`s something to it.

Caved In by mdzimmer 2014-12-10T16:38:00

Nice little game, but i don`t understand the boulder movement. It´s quite hard to get them where you want them to be.

Fireguy by joppiesaus 2014-12-10T12:53:00

Well, there`s still lot`s of work to do to make this a fun game. But hey, as you said: game > no game! Nice try though and thumbs up foro the bomberman!

Popao by christopf 2014-12-10T12:45:00

This is gross! But i like the idea! :D
A solid little puzzle game done very well!
Strange setting, but hey, i`m ok with it!

Slidey Box by Arkrothe 2014-12-14T10:45:00

Really nice little game! As said often times before, i could imagine this on mobile devices using the accelerometer as input could be hilarious! Put some sound into it and give it a go!

DGPOS: Defend the Gun Platforms via One Screen by callumW 2014-12-09T12:09:00

Basic implementation of a shooter/tower defense game.
Though i like the idea quite a bit, there are some things you need to work on, like the red shots coming out of nowhere. You can shoot those, but man they are fast. Enemies only have two routes so you can easily build in a way to shoot them as soon as they enter the screen. Gaining money through shooting seems a little bit unlogical but ok, i can get away with it. Unfortunately it leads only to mashing your mouse button.
In general this thing needs some more polishing in terms of gameplay. The concept of the build and expand part is nice though!

Dungeon Tactics by sensenmann666 2014-12-08T21:18:00

Looks like i`m missing something. Frame instantly closes with an error message:

Dungeon Tactics by sensenmann666 2014-12-12T07:25:00

Thanks for the compatibility fix for Java 7. Great game, i enjoyed it alot! Item end enemy generation work pretty good!

Oven by SojaBird 2014-12-09T16:55:00

Well, not much of a game. It is on one screen though! Points for that.

Off Screen by Bogden 2014-12-10T17:17:00

Well polished and addicitve little game you made there! Very nice!

Upgrade Zero by vogon101 2014-12-09T11:37:00

this is a basic implementation of a top down shooter. quite easy as enemies slow down on approaching you (kamikaze fighters wouldn`t do so, i guess). It seems you have to get to a certain area of the map after clearing a wave to spawn the next one, but i`m not quite sure how it works. You could simplify that by counting alive enemies and starting a timer if the last one dies. Also your shoots get stuck, if you stand with your back on a wall and shoot.

Snowman Crossfire! by Crazy046 2014-12-09T17:35:00

The controlls need to change. The way they are done right now i find it almost impossible to play. Although the screenshaking every time i hit a wall is very disturbing. This needs some more tweaking although there`s a base!

Piano Racer by davidcollado 2014-12-10T17:21:00

Didn`t expect this to be addictive as hell! Nice one, well done!

Meeses by 4sap 2014-12-08T23:24:00

Nice version of a bullet heavy brawler type thing game! ;)
Loved those arrow enemies changing direction in side hits. Music is very good and fits in nicely. The smiley boss made me smile also!

Overload by PnDAA 2014-12-14T10:51:00

Solid top down shooter! The sounds are a little bit annoying and need to be tuned, but that is a minor complaint given the amount of time. Other than that: Well done!

Grid-based base-defender by Bronaldplo 2014-12-08T15:07:00

Solid version of a nice tower defense game!

Some things i`m missing:
- Tooltips on structures (what does this do again?)
- Hint on how many of a kind i can build (i guess no more than 3)

Minor bugs i found:
- Draggind a structure over another structure will replace the first one
- MASSIVE framedrops on the wave with enemies shooting a stream of bullets in all directions

Other than that it is very playable and kind of fun. Nice work! Could become great if polished!

Emporium of Death and Laughter by talecrafter 2014-12-08T20:31:00

The everchanging arena is nicely done. Contributes to the theme very well! Though the weapons need a bit more balancing i think, they are well done. Nicely done within those 48h!

Pixel Pixie by Code White 2014-12-09T18:03:00

Hard to get in but the idea is nice. You need to tweek the controls i think. There`s too much to do at the same time (moving to the right spot, choosing color, dodge electricity sparks)

Bot War by Aggrathon 2014-12-09T14:49:00

Love the idea of not having direct control of your bots! The ai system and graphocs needs some more work on them, but the base is pretty solid and fun to play around with! Would like to see a post LD version of it!

Ludum Fortress by EthanWebster 2014-12-08T17:14:00

Solid implementation of a typical top down shooter.
likek dallonf already said, the screenflash on spawning or dying enemies is really irritating. Also if an enemy catches up on you, there is no way to get away besides buying a speed upgrade.

Overall it is a nice more mediocre shooter but it needs more to it.

The Operator by little-burrito 2014-12-08T22:42:00

This is amazing! I like the idea very much!
You should definitely put some more time into fleshing this out. For the confusing console problems: Probably simply update your map as soon as you have scanned the target so people can recall those IDs even if they don`t see it any more in the console.
I would like to see a follow-up version of this! Great stuff!

Spaceship Jumpy Survival Thingy... Ish? by Norgesnerd 2014-12-09T14:41:00

Not quite one screen, but the mechanics are solid and audio is very nice! This defintively needs more polishing!

Start the Screen ! by bobombe 2014-12-09T11:56:00

Nice concept. You need some form of tutorial though otherweise a lot of people will get stuck without even getting into the game. It took me quite a while to understand that i can and how to grab the fire and what do do with it. After i figured that out i managed to get the first blue flame. I can clearly see the way to go but from there it is quite hard to play on. Switching on the flames while jumping to get your landing plattform back is quite hard. The idea is very nice, but it needs a lot more polishing which would be worth it! Do so and i will play it again!

I am Sigma by GeeItSomeLaldy 2014-12-08T20:22:00

This is a very nice entry which has a lot in it!
The idea and realization are fantastic. The gameplay is actually quite good and the length is appropriate.

After finishing it with there are only a few things to say for improvement:
1) Once you have colltected an item and die in that level, the item should be reset. Otherwise the way back is actually often given instantly.
2) A little indication before the lasers shoot would be nice. Like a charging light or something. Otherwise you end up jumping right into them quite often.

Like it very much!

Marelda by Peach Pie Productions 2014-12-09T15:25:00

I like the game in generall BUT as an entry for this ludum dare you failed. Sorry, this is not "Entire game on one screen"! Then every game which does not run on dual monitors would be fitting the theme which was not intended.

Though the generated world seems to be quite good in general you also suffer from unreachable content (like almost every generated game). I appreciate the amount of work you put in it but it needs more polishing.

CORE! by Slepice1 2014-12-09T16:52:00

Basic defense game with no apparently no bugs in it. The game needs more to though, it is rather repetitive. Some upgrades would be nice!

The Aardvark and the Manatee by Sanguine 2014-12-10T17:40:00

Really lovely and absolutely beatiful game! Very well done!
(Although it get`s a little bit repetitive once you get down to 2 or 3 nobs..)

Save Christmas by ShadowTzu 2014-12-09T12:28:00

A more fleshed out entry. It is quite nice to play but there are a few things i missed like an ammunition counter to know when i have to reload. Also i managed to spawn outside the areay quite a few times so i had to completley restart. I love that you can hide behind trees and the snowman only shoot you when they actually see you! With a bit of bugfixing this is a nice little shooter game! Thumbs up!

Just a Little Screen Time by ppupae 2014-12-08T22:24:00

Though i like the idea of the concept, i couldn`t figure out what to do because it is very difficult to interact with things. There is no reliable way of deciding if i just can`t interact with an object (yet) or if i`m just standing slightly of the right spot to do so. That´s what i guess. I maanged only to pickup the bucket and fill it with water but couldn`t do anything with it in any channel. Iy this is polished, this could become a nixe little thing!

TheBlindMaze by Valon 2014-12-08T23:13:00

Though this is a very interesting type of approach for a game, i think it lacks a something. i think blind people for example also heavily rely on their tactile feedback when navigating their surroundings. This is something very important.

I like the idea of it nontheless! Would be nice to see a more fleshed out version of it.

RoomBoy(tm) Cleans Your Home by kalugny 2014-12-10T16:47:00

Nice entry! Had the idea of a remote monitor too, but decided to do something else. Like your approach a lot!

Farm for Space by pixzleone 2014-12-09T17:05:00

This needs a workover. Rocks are nearly impossible to dodge (maybe show a shadow on the ground before the rock falls down) and maybe add some more mechanics to it (watering the crops, so they don`t die instead of having them die randomly).
At least it fits the theme! Good effort!

The Shelter by Alter 2014-12-09T17:45:00

Nice defense shooter game with a nice art style. The only two things i have to complain:
1) There`s no music! Shooting zombies with no music is only half the fun! ;)
2) Somewhat more serious: It happened quite often that i lost people because i couldn`t see them in time. This happens at the sides of the screen.

AntiPlane by Grenac 2014-12-09T14:57:00

Really impressive work! Got stuck at the area with the green sphere but i will play this until i figure it out! I really like this one!

AntiPlane by Grenac 2014-12-09T15:08:00

I did it! :D
Love it!

TDZSG by FlipskiZ 2014-12-09T17:31:00

Basic shooter with solid game mechanics. Lacks a lot to be a finished game, but the basics are done. Add some sound and improve the graphics as next steps. Also my shots didn`t display most of the time.

Peaceful Place by cutandreil 2014-12-08T20:40:00

Nice work on the art! Would have loved to see them animated. I saw you already had 4 way 4 frame animation graphics for some of the characters!
Though it`s quite enjoyable to defend yourself against all those invading disturbers of peace and quiet! ;)

Teeny Tiny Little Ball by FerraWare 2014-12-10T17:27:00

Very fun approach to the topic. Like the dialogue a lot! Well done!

Arena Champion by DaRaziel 2014-12-08T19:51:00

@cutandreil
Yeah, you are right. At the moment the boosts are created completly random. I should consider more stuff in choosing a bosst to drop. Thx for your comment!

@GeeItSomeLaldy
Thanks for the hint, fixed that and changed to Windows.

@Thanks for loving my tomatoes! :D

Arena Champion by DaRaziel 2014-12-08T22:47:00

Thanks for your feedback so far. Feel free to have a look into the source code. Though i have to admit the programming style went down a little bit over the course of the weekend (i.e. getting stuff in as public static in the end instead of properly handling it with class-references if there was none...)

Oh well, i´m quite satisfied though and don`t think it`s too bad.

Arena Champion by DaRaziel 2014-12-10T13:19:00

Thank you all for your replies, i appreciate it very much!
Building a game completely from scratch was a thing i did to myself since i wasn`t experienced enough with things like Unity by the time. Next time i will definitively use some sort of framework/engine in order to focus way more on the actual game and mechanics instead of core engine features. Thank you all for your responses!

Arena Champion by DaRaziel 2014-12-12T21:43:00

@BtheDestroyer:
Thx for the info! :)
I will change the download link.

Arena Champion by DaRaziel 2014-12-28T23:19:00

I won`t continue this one, but i learned some nice stuff while creating it. I´m currently working on another project.

Thank you all for your replies! We see us at Ludum Dare #32!!!

Welcome To Shady Pines by juxipolo 2014-12-10T13:12:00

Very well done puzzler. Graphics are really nice, sound is cool (only lacks some background music), and the mechanics are well done! Maybe you should highlight windows/doors/etc. when they are introduced to the players to make it easier for them to spot them. Overall nicely done!

RobFishing by xTacobaco 2014-12-08T22:09:00

Nice work on the pixal art! Personaly i love that style!

What are those upgrades good for? I couldn`t figure out what they do. Also i didn`t receive the golden hook when i bought it.

Nice little game that could be a pretty good time eater (in a positive way) if you add some music and something a little bit more challenging other than just putting your hook in the water to catch those fishes.

Owl'd Hurricrash by BarrensZeppelin 2014-12-08T15:38:00

Nice entry! I like it alot. The idea is great, the flight and wind mechanics are solid, the graphics are also nice (i like those refelctions on the water) and the sound fits in there too. I also had to laugh a lot when i smashed my owl against the rocks for the first time.
