Apr 26 14:28:41 Deeper Tales ♥ 0 Very cute main character! It took me a while to realize I had a wall jump since it isn't mentioned in the tutorial. I thought I was stuck at one point until I randomly discovered it. I'm also not sure if I beat the game or not. I got to a black screen so I'm assuming that's just where it ends.
Apr 26 14:40:15 11m 34s Doug: A Miner Drilling Incident ♥ 1 Really simple but enjoyable concept. I like how the gravity switching mechanic was introduced; I thought I was just going to fall, so I was caught off guard by my character suddenly walking on the wall. That was a great moment! I also really like the opening title sequence, very snazzy. I will say that the lack of control could sometimes be frustrating, especially when the character turned around when I didn't want him to, or if the gravity changed in an unexpected way. Overall, a fun little game. Nice work!
Apr 26 15:04:16 24m 01s Diggy Bungus ♥ 1 I really like the concept for this game. Having to keep the shopkeeper with you as you dig down adds an interesting twist to the game. I also really enjoy the little disembodied shovel. Letting the player move while the shovel does its thing on its own is a great way of keeping the game fast and frantic. I will say that it gets a bit repetitive, especially after you settle into a strategy, so it would have been interesting to see new types of obstacles introduced over time to change things up. I also felt like the pizza meter might have been draining a bit too quickly, but it did keep up the game's tension all the way to the end. Overall, a really clever game which captured my interest. Great work!
Apr 26 15:36:45 32m 29s Deep Dive to the wormhole ♥ 1 A pretty well made game. I like how not being able to mine up or mine in mid air added a little more strategy to the gameplay so you couldn't just mine randomly. It also felt really satisfying to get upgrades and go much faster. However, that made it frustrating to get to the next depth level only for everything to be reset to their original slow speed. I played through depth level 1 and 2, but quit once I got to 3 since it got repetitive. I also feel that the game being so similar to Motherload makes it look a bit worse in comparison. Overall, a solid entry. Nice work!
Apr 26 15:48:11 11m 26s Blue Cheese, Lunar Descent ♥ 2 Solid game! I like the dual purpose design of using items both to do tasks and fight enemies. I especially enjoyed it when I realized you could fix a machine and kill an enemy with the same throw if you aimed carefully. Overall, a very well put together little experience. Nice work!
Apr 26 16:12:58 24m 47s HELLEVATORS ♥ 1 An interesting concept! I like having to manage competing interests, with each color requiring mutually exclusive paths. I will say that requiring a full path for the guys to even start moving made it really hard to multitask; it felt like I could usually only move 1 color at a time, maybe 2 if I was luck with the spawns. Maybe there's just a higher level strategy I'm not seeing here. On another note, I really liked the music! Overall, a very unique game. Nice work!
Apr 26 16:54:05 41m 07s Conduit ♥ 1 Really clever game! I love how the conduits serve as both a power supply and a platform; that dual purpose makes for a lot of really tricky puzzles. I especially liked the bonus puzzles to collect the messages (and, yes, I got all 8), although it was annoying to re-collect them when I died. I also enjoyed the music and atmosphere. Overall, a great entry. Nice work!
Apr 26 18:31:45 1h 37m Deepest Greed - Mines of Darin ♥ 2 A pretty solid game. Going back up to heal, get food, and upgrade makes for a nice game loop. I also like the little wobble your character does when he walks, as well as his balloons. I do feel like the mining time on some of the later areas gets to be a bit too long, and it got a tad repetitive. The menus were also a bit finicky to use (not sure why the menus are controlled with F and Enter when the game is controlled with F and D). Overall, an enjoyable entry. Nice work!
Apr 26 18:52:50 21m 05s Deeper and Deeper ♥ 1 Really like all the audio visual polish. The lighting effects and the animation on the fire are top notch. The game feel on the player movement was also great. I love the idea of having a projectile which lets you look ahead at parts of the level. However, I do feel like this mechanic is somewhat sidelined by obstacles like ghosts and traps which don't really interact much with the torch. It was also a bit annoying to have to manually select the retry option every time I died. Overall, an incredibly polished entry which shows a lot of potential. Amazing work!
Apr 26 19:10:15 17m 25s I'm So Deep ♥ 1 A unique idea for sure! I like the idea of a creative writing game; it's a very different type of challenge compared to what we usually get in games. I will say that it was sometimes hard to parse the mood of the princess's poem since it's just a randomized list of adjectives. Maybe making the princess's poem a question could help prompt the player so they have a clearer starting point when writing. Overall, a wonderfully weird game. Nice work!
Apr 26 19:45:12 34m 57s The Shadowy Temple ♥ 2 I really like the mood and atmosphere of the game, and I can always appreciate the extra work that goes into making something 3D for a game jam. I will say that, even though I beat the whole game, I still don't exactly know how the puzzles work. I know it has something to do with looking at all the crystal balls, but I'm not sure what specifically triggers the doors to open. I just ran around looking at the crystal balls until the door opened, which seemed to work well enough. Perhaps some more audiovisual feedback could make the mechanics clearer. Still, I enjoyed my time with the game overall. Nice work!
Apr 26 21:00:08 1h 14m Crystal Mites ♥ 0 I really like the feel of the bounce mechanic. I also enjoyed the contrast between the chaotic bouncing around in the first half of the level and the carefully controlled hops around spikes in the second half. My main criticism is that the insta-kill spikes combined with the lack of checkpoints in the second half made the game really punishing and occasionally frustrating. It did force me to master the mechanics, which felt rewarding and kept me going long enough to beat both levels. Also, the music and visuals are top notch. Overall, an excellent entry, even if it can be frustrating.
Apr 26 21:25:50 25m 42s Find The Page! ♥ 1 Turning the Wikipedia game into something with scoring and a leaderboard is a pretty neat idea. I like how having a limited number of clicks really made me stop and think about each action instead of clicking at random. I wound up getting pretty high on the leaderboard (5th place at the time of commenting). However, having the same fixed searches in the same order does hamper the replay value. Having a hand curated set of puzzles could still work, but randomizing the order would help prevent the game from getting repetitive. Overall, a very clever entry. Nice work! On a side note, I also noticed it was possible to skip levels by closing the tab, then opening a new one. I'm not sure if it's possible to cheat the leaderboard with this, but I thought I'd point it out just in case.
Apr 26 21:36:35 10m 45s Rolling In The Deep ♥ 2 Really like the visuals for this game; they set a great atmosphere. I like the idea of navigating by launching yourself around, but I found it a lot easier to just use the propulsion from the gun, so I wound up using that instead. I also wasn't sure what was damaging me all the time (I assume it has something to do with bumping into walls). Overall, a solid entry. Nice work!
Apr 26 22:02:59 26m 24s A Way Home ♥ 1 Really enjoyed this one. I liked the quick thinking I had to do to build the bridge out in front of the cat as it went. There were also some clever strategies involving trapping the cat to buy time, then using the the block break to free it. At first, I thought the block break would be over powered, but having limited uses balances it out and even made me try to avoid trapping the cat if I didn't absolutely need to. My only real complaint is that the camera moving up and down to track the cat occasionally made it difficult to place blocks. Oh, and the joke at the end was priceless. Overall, excellent entry. Great work!
Apr 26 22:54:46 51m 47s The Plummet ♥ 1 Really enjoyed a lot of the ideas in this game. Throwing flares ahead to see where I was going and figuring out how to approach the level with the various tools at my disposal was fun and allowed for creative solutions. I especially liked the ability to makes bridges with the rope, although the controls for the rope were a bit finicky. I also felt like the enemies were a bit to overwhelming in places, making it feel like my success was up to chance at times. About half of the time, I made progress just by falling down the level randomly. In the end, I made it to 1200m. Overall, this is a solid entry with some creative, if unpolished, ideas. Nice work!
Apr 26 23:58:16 1h 03m Dr.Pupper Heart Dogter MD ♥ 1 I noticed that my character kept jumping even when I wasn't pressing the jump button. I beat both levels anyway, but I wasn't sure if this was a bug or a feature.
Apr 27 00:08:40 10m 24s Last penny ♥ 3 Really liked the art for the cutscenes at the beginning and the end. Very detailed and atmospheric, setting an excellently dreary mood. The gameplay was pretty simplistic, but the twist at the end was nice. Good work!
Apr 27 00:28:49 20m 09s Drill Digger ♥ 1 Who keeps planting these explosives and what do they have against me? But seriously, the game is straightforward, but a bit simplistic. It's a too easy to dodge completely static obstacles, so the game probably needs something a little more to stay engaging. I also noticed that the player drifts slowly off the top of the screen the more you play, which is probably a bug.
Apr 27 00:43:44 14m 55s The Dungeon Of Depth ♥ 1 Pretty enjoyable little platformer. I really liked the green platforms you couldn't jump on and how they interacted with the boxes. The light mechanic was kinda neat in how it made you feel out the level a bit before advancing, although it was less neat when I kept walking right into spikes I couldn't see. Overall, a solid entry. Nice work!
Apr 27 00:56:23 12m 39s Welldiver ♥ 3 This type of game usually isn't anything to write home about, but this was genuinely great! I love how you keep introducing new mechanics as the game goes on, slowly ramping up the intensity to a chaotic scramble. Some of the obstacles were also pretty creative and caught me off guard, like the bullets that suddenly come launching at you. The visuals were simple, but effective, and the audio was also fitting. My only real complaint would be the main character's turn being an instant snap instead of a smooth rotation. Overall, a solid and polished entry. Amazing work!
Apr 27 01:11:42 15m 19s Deeper and Deeper: Funeral Bros. ♥ 0 This is a a pretty neat concept which makes for a tense, frantic experience. I like having to juggle the two characters, using the delay on the gravedigger's actions to kill some zombies with the gunner. The control scheme did get a bit finicky at times, specifically remembering that dig is bound to left click while bury is bound to right click. Overall, a very unique and interesting game. Nice work!
Apr 27 01:33:06 21m 24s Cart go brrr ♥ 1 I love it! Such a unique mechanic which leads to a lot of neat interactions. Trying to correctly space yourself with the cart to get a bat in-between is tricky, made even trickier by the cart moving as you do so. Tying the player's main action to a constantly moving part of the level is just a genius idea. I also like how the cart goes faster the closer you are to it, adding an extra layer to your decision making. It forces you to stay far enough away so that your cart doesn't go careening into a swarm of bats, but not so far that you can't shoot. Those moments where you get surrounded by bats a little too far away from your cart and you have to lure them away and make a mad scramble back were the most intense parts. Overall, a simple but incredibly smart idea. Fantastic work!
Apr 27 01:47:03 13m 57s Holey Hell ♥ 3 Absolutely love the visuals! Not only is the game colorful and trippy, but being able to see the next level gives you that little bit of anticipation. You can even scout ahead and prepare yourself. It turns an otherwise mostly simple game into something pretty memorable. The gameplay is mostly straightforward platforming fare, but the wobbly ground and circular levels add just a bit of a twist to keep it interesting. There's also a good mix of different obstacle types, and it's neat that you can pick the level you start on when you respawn. Overall, a unique and polished experience.
Apr 27 02:06:12 19m 09s Below the Ocean ♥ 3 What a fantastic game! Not only is the tether mechanic incredibly fun and well implemented, but it's combined with other elements in so many interesting ways. I was surprised by just how many mechanics you managed to fit into this game in 72 hours. On top of that, the music, visuals, and just overall atmosphere of the game are top notch, with into/outro cutscenes and a victory dance to boot. Overall, an amazing game!
Apr 27 04:11:45 2h 05m Keke in the "Caves of Peril!" ♥ 1 This is a pretty clever and tough puzzle game. I had a difficult time understanding some of the more complicated mechanics at first (it took me longer than I care to admit to figure out puzzles 2 and 5), but, once I got over those initial hurdles, it was pretty satisfying to pick apart the puzzles. The "push the item into a wall to collect it" mechanic was pretty unique, and lead to a lot of interesting scenarios. The collapsing dirt mechanic was also cool, though a bit tricky to get my head around. I also like how the ability to dig through any dirt block can create some very open ended level layouts. Some of the puzzles were SO open ended it was difficult to figure out where to start (lots of false starts and red herrings), but it was satisfying nonetheless when I finally figured it out piece by piece (albeit after minutes of banging my head against the wall). Overall, a very satisfying experience.
Apr 27 04:39:30 27m 45s Trauma Elevator ♥ 2 I really like the sprite art on the enemies, and the soothing jazz that speeds up during fights was a funny detail. The gameplay was straightforward, but having to time your shots with the enemy vulnerability spiced it up a little. Having to reset the whole game every time you die is a bit too punishing, especially considering the long wait times between levels. Overall, a pretty solid game. Nice work!
Apr 27 04:41:51 2m 21s Caverns of Mal'Dur ♥ 1 Link seems to be broken. Possible that you didn't select the "publish" setting on itch.io.
Apr 27 05:00:08 18m 17s An Unexpected Mishap in Naval Mine Cove ♥ 3 Quite a fun and frantic experience. I enjoyed how the mistakes start piling up on each other and it becomes less about avoiding damage altogether and more about trying to prolong your inevitable demise. Needing to move around the ship adds an extra layer of strategy, since draining water commits you to not turning. Sometimes you just having to watch as your ship takes hit after hit, which adds to the helplessness. You don't have a lot of time to see bombs coming, which could feel unfair at times, but also added to the tension. Overall, the game is effective at capturing a panicked, helpless mood.
Apr 27 14:13:32 9h 13m Just Call Your Mom ♥ 1 I like the background and how it changes gradually as the level goes on. The character designs were also appealing, and the 2.5D artstyle worked well. The gameplay was kinda shallow and repetitive, although I did discover some interesting strategies involving hitting enemies from behind a chair to shield myself from damage. It was a bit disappointing that the ending was the same whether you die or make it to the phone.
Apr 27 14:41:37 28m 05s Deepest Sword ♥ 0 What an original and hilarious game! The idea of plunging your sword deeper and deeper into the dragon is a very creative (and a bit suggestive) take on the theme. The physics on the sword made for some really clever and tricky obstacles. I love the idea of playing the same levels over and over but with a different sword that changes the way you have to approach the obstacles. I also like how some of the obstacles can be cheesed if you really make use of your sword's physics. I managed to bypass the second to last room both of the times I had to go through it. I beat the game in 16 minutes, which is apparently really fast comparing to some of the other times on this thread, so I guess I was quick on the uptake. Overall, fantastic entry. Amazing work!
Apr 27 15:30:58 49m 21s Bunny Bunny Dig Dig ♥ 3 A very polished game! Love the cute aesthetic and bunny character. The combat was clever in how it recontextualized the movement controls, though the rewards were meager enough that I usually just skipped it as much as possible. I like how the torch mechanic forces you to speed up and weigh the option of returning early, though it became a non-issue after just a few upgrades. I wound up playing until I got all of the upgrades, though it got a bit stale and repetitive by the end. But, overall, I enjoyed my experience with this game quite a bit. Nice work!
Apr 27 15:46:59 16m 01s Quick Scrap ♥ 0 Pretty enjoyable game. I like how shooting enemies doesn't kill them but stuns them, since it forces you to pay attention to where you shoot them so you can get around them more easily. The controls were simple and fun. I especially like the downward boost, since it's never really required, but it's fun to use to speed up movement. Overall, a solid entry. Nice work!
Apr 27 17:13:13 1h 26m Falling Bot ♥ 6 Pretty solid game. The dark, atmospheric visuals really stand out, and it's always impressive to see 3D games in Ludum Dare. I like the mechanic of having to hover over something to break it, although it wasn't always clear what was and wasn't breakable. Trying to catch the fuel cans while not bumping into walls was tricky, but I found that I didn't need to get that many fuel cans to beat the game. Overall, I enjoyed my time with this entry. Nice work!
Apr 27 17:41:39 28m 26s Sized Bite ♥ 1 Really like the main mechanic; it adds an extra dimension to exploration. In particular, I enjoyed the sections where you had to both shrink and grow to get around certain obstacles, especially the more open ended section at the end with the large house to explore. Also, the repeating structure of the game was cool and added to the eerie atmosphere. I did wind up getting stuck in the end; there was a keyhole I had to shrink to get through with a ramp leading up to it, but the game wouldn't let me shrink anymore. Nonetheless, I enjoyed my time with this game. Nice work!
Apr 27 18:12:28 30m 49s Cat Sweeper ♥ 1 Pretty neat idea. I like how you took a familiar game and changed it up with digging mechanics. It took me a while to figure out how I should approach it, but I eventually found my groove once I realized that I should be try to travel next to the 0 spaces instead of through them. It also took me a while to realize that the game didn't count diagonal adjacency, unlike normal Minesweeper. Overall, a creative little game.
Apr 27 21:44:26 3h 31m Drill goes brrrr! ♥ 1 Made it to the under under under under under under under under under underworld.
Apr 28 02:43:05 4h 58m Down Under ♥ 1 Fun little platformer, short and sweet. I like the limited number of digs, as it made stop me consider where I should use them. Having to jump out of all those 1 block holes was a bit finicky though. Overall, a pretty solid, enjoyable time.
Apr 28 03:01:28 18m 23s Financial Depths ♥ 1 Really like the creative take on the theme. Trying to manage your debt between a bunch of credit cards is a unique form of gameplay. You did a good job of capturing the feeling of helplessly spiraling into financial ruin.
Apr 28 03:14:28 13m 00s Dungeon Painter ♥ 1 Pretty creative concept. Having to slowly feel out levels with my paint as I went along was fun. It was a bit on the simple side, with the only other mechanics being keys and spikes. More elements that interact with your paint would have spiced it up a tad. I do appreciate that you took the time to add a final boss though. Overall, a solid entry.
Apr 28 03:23:34 9m 06s Manic Miner ♥ 0 Simple and enjoyable. I like the minimalist visuals which communicate the game's information very clearly. The controls are nice and snappy, although mashing that fast made my hand start to hurt by the end. I do feel that the game could use one or two more elements to spice things up, but the game is good for what it is.
Apr 28 04:14:27 50m 53s Chthonic Brilliance ♥ 3 Fun little block pushing puzzle game. The interactions between the blocks made for some clever conundrums, and I'm surprised by just how many mechanics and puzzles you could fit in. I also like the cute art style and relaxing music. Controls worked well and were intuitive, though I think a keyboard control scheme would have been a bit easier to use. Overall, really solid entry. Nice work!
Apr 28 04:30:08 15m 41s Rooted ♥ 1 Really neat take on a mining game. Playing as one connected body really changes how you approach the levels, especially when the moles get introduced. The water veins were a bit finicky since you can't branch off of the root tile that connects to them, which occasionally blocked my path. But, overall, a very solid and original game. Nice work!
Apr 30 14:25:04 57h 54m Frog ♥ 2 Really cute game! I love how expressive the little frog character is. I also appreciate how you actually made an NES rom; that's super cool. The music is also top notch. I will say that the gameplay is on the simple side, with just the one bubble mechanic and rooms full of spikes. It might have been cool to see how the bubble mechanic interacted with different types of obstacles. But, overall, a very solid package. Nice work!
Apr 30 14:57:39 32m 35s depthscraper ♥ 2 Really creative and original puzzle game! Trying to fill rows while not cutting off the color you need to build to reach your goal creates a great conflict in the design. I also like how you can build other colors in anticipation of the next goal, since that color might be required. One small problem I noticed with the game is that there's no way to end the game if none of the pieces fit into the current board, meaning you have to manually reload the page and are locked out of entering your high score. It would be nice if the game automatically ended if you got into such a checkmate scenario. Overall, really solid entry. Nice work!
Apr 30 18:05:37 3h 07m Untitled Simulator ♥ 1 A very original idea, and a good way of building empathy. I really like the visuals for the psychologist's office, although the text interface was a weird choice for the time period. I'd also say that the gameplay felt less like actually diagnosing him, and more like clicking the option I haven't chosen yet and letting the scene play out. Still, a very creative use of the theme. Nice work!
May 1 21:20:16 27h 14m Penguin Paradise ♥ 2 Wound up playing this game for quite a while to get the ending, although a lot of that time was AFK. The grind to get the ice palace at the end is pretty long, so I just got all of my systems into equilibrium and waited it out. Having to switch what mineral my blacksmiths and gathering huts were focusing on depending on my needs was a neat mechanic, although it could be circumvented by just building more and more. Overall, pretty solid game, although the grind was a bit much. Nice work!
May 2 00:02:04 2h 41m Digtet ♥ 0 Couldn't get the game to work. When I press Enter to start the game, the screen doesn't change from the "press start" prompt, but I can hear the sound effects of the game playing in the background. If it helps, I'm on Windows 10.
May 2 16:48:14 16h 46m Asteroid Mining Operations ♥ 1 I like the idea of a platformer with a central pillar you branch out from and come back to. Unfortunately, the lack of obstacles or other mechanics makes this game just a matter of systematically digging down until you inevitably win. I did find an interesting strategy of pressing my drill up against the side of the shaft to break the wall tiles just enough to see if there was any ore behind them, but that's about it. Perhaps enemies, different terrain types, etc, could spice up the gameplay.
May 2 17:55:02 1h 06m The Final Frontier ♥ 1 Really neat main mechanic! I like the dual purpose design of shooting both to destroy blocks and move up. It was fun figuring out how best to use this jump to grab the collectables while avoiding obstacles. I will say that this mechanic is somewhat undermined by the ability to slow your dissent, which makes it pretty trivial to avoid obstacles without needing to shoot most of the time. Maybe limiting the use of the slowdown with a fuel gauge that needs to be refilled via a collectible would help balance the mechanic by forcing players to conserve its uses. It would definitely be interesting to explore these mechanics further, perhaps with different types of of blocks with different properties. Overall, a promising mechanic. Nice work!
May 2 18:17:10 22m 08s Hellevator Operator ♥ 3 Pretty simple and clever concept. I like how much depth you managed to squeeze out of a one button control scheme. There were occasional bits of frustration waiting for the little side bars to come out, especially after accidentally landing on the wrong floor, but that also made it satisfying to get the hang of it and beat the levels efficiently. There's a good amount of strategy in figuring out how to prioritize picking up and dropping off passengers, which gets more complex as the game goes on. The audiovisual presentation was also top notch, and the ending was really great and caught me off guard. An overall excellent package. Amazing work!
May 3 01:33:37 7h 16m Deeper Rooms ♥ 0 This game has a really engrossing, off kilter vibe. It's a shame it's unfinished; I like what's there and I'd definitely love to play more!
May 3 01:42:42 9m 05s Rapid Descent ♥ 2 I like the minimalist aesthetic and the use of colors. It's also cool that you implemented a multiplayer mode. Controls could have used a bit of work, in particular the super floaty jump. I also felt like the levels got pretty familiar/repetitive after 2 or 3 attempts. regardless, it's an overall solid package. nice work!
May 3 02:55:50 1h 13m Eye of Skozrack ♥ 1 I like the little sound the eye makes when it bounces, along with the accompanying screen shake. The environments and music were nice as well. As other commenters said, the second level in the green area was just too hard. I seriously attempted it for about an hour and just couldn't get over the final jump. It takes so long to get to the top half, and one mistake makes you re-do the whole thing. The game really needs some sort of trajectory indicator so you're not just guessing wildly at where you're going to go. Also, the game could use some other mechanics than just the basic movement. Overall, a very nice presentation, but that one level was just a bit too much.
May 4 14:52:19 35h 56m Boombox ♥ 4 Very clever take on the theme. The visuals were polished and captivating, especially when the boxes pop out of the previous box. The gameplay is simple, but intense, and I'm impressed by all the variations on the basic "lock and key" mechanic you manage to squeeze into it. I beat easy through hard, although it took me a while to figure out that the final difficulty was infinite (I assume). I wound up losing that only when I ran into a bug where clicking during the box opening transition causes the transition to freeze. This also made the fuse stop, so I had to quit out of the game at that point. Bug aside, I had a great time with this entry. Amazing work!
May 5 22:59:24 32h 07m Unto the Eight ♥ 1 Really neat concept. Took me a few tries to get the hang of it, but it was enjoyable once I figured it out. It was fun trying to optimize my routes for the deliveries while keeping my meters topped up. I didn't wind up doing all the deliveries, since the amount of meters you have to attend to and the speed at which they decrease while charting out this completely unknown map with low visibility got a bit overwhelming. Overall, a game with some interesting ideas. Nice work!
May 6 04:55:18 5h 55m Out of Gas ♥ 1 Really like the visuals on this one; the idea of making vintage cars into spaceships is a great aesthetic. I also appreciate the FTL homage in the game's structure, with the twist that you're running away from debt collectors instead of rebels. I will say that the gameplay feels almost entirely determined by randomness, to the point where it might as well play itself. There were a ton of situations where I just didn't get any fuel drops or missed too many shots and died. Overall, the game has a striking style and quirky narrative, but the gameplay balance could use some work.
May 6 23:38:36 18h 43m Goldsweeper ♥ 2 Pretty neat concept. I like how the gold tempts you to go down more dangerous routes, adding a little risk/reward. I do feel that the control scheme was a bit off; pressing z to place ladders is a bit awkward while using WASD. I also wonder if a grid-based movement system where you tap to move one full space would have been a better fit. Overall, an interesting game. Nice work!
May 7 16:47:39 17h 09m Fallen Shovel ♥ 1 Really great game! The basic movement mechanics are such a joy to control, with an extra flair of audiovisual juice. On top of that, I enjoyed how each level has its own unique twist based on the circles of hell. I especially liked the fraud level, where the meaning of everything was reversed. Not only was it funny, but the humor came out of the game design, not just some arbitrarily inserted joke. Overall, just a joy to play. Excellent work!
May 8 01:23:12 8h 35m dyppan ♥ 1 The gameplay loop of dungeon crawling then going back to the town to buy upgrades is solid. However, the ability to go back to town and heal to full for free at any time kinda invalidates the healing items.
May 8 01:42:56 19m 44s Rabbit Rappel ♥ 2 Really fun main mechanic. I like how the gun is used both for platforming and combat, and even to light level in the latter half of the game. The visuals are also amazing, and it's great how the level gets darker the deeper you go. I will say that the checkpoints are way too sparse, especially considering the insta-death obstacles. The lack of sound effects was also disappointing, especially for the gun. Overall, great game with a lot of potential in its main mechanic. Great work!
May 8 04:00:45 2h 17m Deep Sea Settler ♥ 0 Really neat game. It took my a couple tries to get a feel for how the buildings and resources interact (took me a while to realize cities needed O2 AND food AND power, and only produced 1 range per person), but it became enjoyable once I pieced it all together. I like how it feels more like a puzzle game than a management game, trying to figure out how to arrange my structures in just the right way to expand my building range. The inability to demolish buildings could make for some frustrating checkmate scenarios, although it also forced me to play carefully so as to not block off important resources I may need later. Overall, an enjoyable game, although it could use a tutorial. Nice work!
May 8 17:35:59 13h 35m Deep Love for Chocolate ♥ 0 Pretty simple, but enjoyable. I like how you change up the enemy patterns in the second level, and I appreciate that you took the time to add a final boss. My only real gripe is how long the respawn time is; I thought I might have to reload the page at first because it was taking so long. That aside, this is a solid entry. Nice work!
May 10 04:00:03 34h 24m ROM DIGGER ♥ 1 Simple and enjoyable. I really like the little effect that plays when you get damaged. The gameplay is fast and fun, with the scrolling screen giving you just enough time pressure to create tension. The ability to break some blocks adds a bit of depth, especially since you need to mine the collectible before you can pick it up, which can also cause you to mine the block beneath you if you're not careful. My only real complaint is a lack of mechanics; there's just the one collectable and one enemy type. There's also TNT, but it was pretty easy to just avoid that outright. That said, the game didn't overstay its welcome, so the lack of content isn't really a big problem. Overall, a short and sweet experience. Nice work!
May 10 17:44:27 13h 44m Digzilla ♥ 1 Pretty neat little game. There are a lot of mining games in this jam, but this is the first one I've played so far that doesn't let you dig down. That limitation makes for some unique gameplay, especially when combined with the falling rocks. It could sometimes feel almost like a puzzle game, trying to figure out how to push the rocks in just the right way to make an escape route. I also appreciate that you don't just make the player lose all their money permanently on death, but actually give them an opportunity to recollect it by scattering it all over the underground. It turns what would otherwise be a frustrating punishment into an exciting new gameplay opportunity. My biggest complaint would just be that TNT is too expensive. Since you need to buy elevator upgrades in order to progress and beat the game, and those are similarly expensive, I almost never bought TNT. Regardless, this is a very solid entry with some nice design tricks. Great work!
May 10 22:10:18 4h 25m Depth Gauge ♥ 2 The multi-layered mining is definitely a neat idea. Visually, it could get a bit cluttered when you were in one of the middle layers with multiple layers in front of and behind you. The rope was also pretty cool, especially when it pulled you back up the the surface really quickly, although it's a shame that it doesn't interact with the gameplay much. I do appreciate that that you actually added an ending to the game, as most of the mining games in this jam just kinda drag on forever. Overall, a solid game with a cool main mechanic. nice work!
May 11 21:23:01 23h 12m Archeo ♥ 1 Really enjoyed the manic pace of this game. Having to manage so many things at once while trying to go fast was a lot of fun. The little minigames you have to do for the artifacts also help add to the chaos. If I had to criticize the game for anything, I do feel that the tutorial was a bit too bloated. Also, some of the UI elements were small and not easily readable at a glance. Since the game is so fast, big obvious UI elements would be a better fit. For instance, a giant clock for the time and a pictographic representation of each remaining pick/shovel instead of just numbers. Those gripes aside, the game was a really enjoyable time. Great work!
May 13 23:34:16 50h 11m Dig Deeper and Deeper ♥ 0 Pretty neat idea. I like having the main character stationary and shooting out a projectile to mine. Having to drag the arrow in the direction I wanted to aim instead of just clicking where I wanted to aim felt a bit unintuitive, and the camera kept snapping to the surface, even when my character was far underground. I appreciate how over the top some of the upgrades could get, especially the size and spawn on death upgrades. However, the left-right movement upgrade didn't seem to do much, even after I upgraded it several times. The best strategy was just spamming shoot straight up, so left-right movement mid-air wasn't super useful. Overall, a somewhat clunky implementation, but some good ideas. Nice work!
May 18 02:16:26 98h 42m Worm Excavation League ♥ 2 I don't have anyone to play with, so I wound up playing both sides at once, which was surprisingly fun. The gameplay is simple, but needing to make decisions with a time limit adds some tension. I also like the appealing pixel art and the music was great. I will say that the game gets trivially easy once you get full diamonds/gems. In fact, I got both timers so high that they exceeded 99 and wrapped around, presumably because they were only programmed to display 2 digits. After a while, the tiles also started glitching out, spawning overlapped in mid air, leaving big chunks of empty space (although this issue went away after a few minutes). But these technical issues didn't impede my enjoyment. Overall, this game is some nice, simple fun, but could use an extra twist to keep the late game from dragging on forever. Nice work!
