I wasn't sure if there was some way to play this better/worse than just drilling at random.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD48 → Asteroid Mining Operations

A bit of a keyboard mash-up. didn't get that deep.
@lsk I thought about some kind of radar but didn't have time for it, thx for feedback!
@mdotedot thx for playing!
I know the game in it's current state is bad, technically it's a game, but the boring one, I wish I had more experience to finish all my ideas in time :)
Nice work with this. I did find it to be pretty random as to how to play and mine though.
Hey! Fun concept and neat take on a classic style of game! Based on your reply to the other comments I agree that a radar could've been cool, but totally understand that sometiems ytou just gotta do what you can manage to fit in! I think you did a great job and if you find yourself continuing to add more features and things in the future I'd love to play it again!
This is a good concept and it functions well. Like others said, I think it mainly needs some mechanic to help the player find ore, perhaps in a puzzle-solving way, so it isn't just "drill at random". A goal would also be great! I noticed that the ore is visible through partially drilled tiles, so I found sliding up the edge of the main hole touching each time on the edge of it to be a very efficient way to look at a lot of tiles at once.
I like the idea of a platformer with a central pillar you branch out from and come back to. Unfortunately, the lack of obstacles or other mechanics makes this game just a matter of systematically digging down until you inevitably win. I did find an interesting strategy of pressing my drill up against the side of the shaft to break the wall tiles just enough to see if there was any ore behind them, but that's about it. Perhaps enemies, different terrain types, etc, could spice up the gameplay.
Wow, nice little graphics. Loved the ability to fly. Ran into a major stint of not finding any ores. would have liked to see some indication of where things might be, maybe if i'm getting too close or the drill hits a level that one is on. :-)
@sequoiadolce I'll try to port my concept to Unity with some changes, will post here if I can pull out something out of this :)
@bmacintosh @superpokeunicorn you found a secret way for searching the ore veins, great! :)
Thanks for playing!
The main reason for me to participate in LD is to learn something new, so I took TypeScript and Phaser.io for the first time, that was exciting and time consuming as well :)
@commanderstitch thanks for playing! I thought soie kind of radar is needed, don't have time to implement it tho (
The art looks pretty good, and the connection thing works really well. Would have liked some way to upgrade the rover with better ways to find the ore. Radar, blast mining, rail gun. Or if the ore would be adjacent to other ores so you could just drill around, somehow making them easier to find. Great job in the time-frame. Keep up the good work!
Nice art, everything that is implemented is working very nice :) Solid entry
I'm Winrar! Definately a good core idea. Would love to see upgrades and whatnot.
Although I noticed the "secret mechanic", I didn't actually think too much about how it could be used.
Interesting concept but drilling manually takes a really long amount of time. If drilling could be faster or if there was a indicator to show ores from further away that would be cool, like revealing all adjacent ores.
The concept is cool, but it needs more work. I hope you will be improving the game after the compo :)
