Fun crafting game with a surprising amount of depth! I think I was accidentally murdering my penguins at first by clicking the fairy penguin vs cape penguin buttons to see what they did then I noticed my penguin number would go down!
Interesting townbuilder but the kind of friction to play put me off. I waited time to build things then I waited to research then I could play. I really don't like the "this is a jam" but I played this like an idle game and idle games are things that I play while working, not while trying to intentionally enjoy games. It just didn't work for me. Also, I finally got to the igloo penguins and couldn't figure out how to proceede. Now - the art was great - though the hitboxes were a bit off. I think with a bit of graphical interest and a bit of tuning this could be an interesting little townbuilder. As it stands - I think it kinda rides the line between townbuilder and idle game
@natethegreat To ease your mind a bit: At least you're not actually killing the penguins when changing the specialization of a tent/house - you're "just" evicting the ones which don't fit the new setting :)
Interesting little idle game/townbuilder thing! Didn't have a ton of time to dig into it, I got to mining, but it looks like a fun little experience. I was sort of expecting an RTS for some reason, but I was pleasantly surprised. I was for some reason heavily invested in that penguin telling me to do stuff, good idea there.
I did play this game for quite a long time, which is a good sign. I enjoyed balancing the rates of various things, and I liked the theme of penguins digging a giant hole in the ground. Some more quality-of-life UI would be a great improvement, such as readouts for your current and maximum count of each type of penguin, and a faster way to reassign gathering hub specializations en masse (like a window to manage how many hubs are on each type of resource).
I wasn't a fan of waiting random amounts of time for penguins to actually show up before I could assign them, but that could be subjective. And I quit when I started building the monument. I had only a few robot penguins assigned to it and didn't even see the percentage creeping up up at all, and I felt like I was just going to have build about a hundred more of everything and I didn't really feel up to that - so the game may have overstayed its welcome a bit there.

@bmacintosh The late game is definitely unbalanced as it stands - in our attempts after the deadline it took about 30min to build the monument when extracting the maximum amount of ores from the well. Nice to see that it could captivate you so well until than still :)
We're planning to continue working on it for a more polished (separate) release though, which will definitely address this issue.
Nice game! wow you got a lot done - love the voxel art!
The delays between tasks feel a bit _too_ long, with little to do in the downtime!
I had a few issues clicking on buildings - not quite sure what was going on, when I had a couple placed right next to each other of the same type, it'd often select the one I wasn't clicking, and sometimes clicking on buildings seemed to do nothing at all?
Made playing a bit of a problem since I'd set one thing to collect food, then set the other to build the bamboo, I'd leave it for a bit and then realize now I had no food and most my penguins were dead because I'd accidently selected the same one twice
nice graphics, like your idea and game style,gj!
After getting some actual rest, we just pushed an update that fixes the problem with the mouse cursor sometimes activating the wrong building when zooming out. Hopefully this makes your village management easier to handle :)
I liked the game. It seems well balanced and content rich for a jam game. The single thing that would have made this game so much better in my opinion is either changing the wait times or a fast forward button. Again I liked the game but I ended up watching youtube on one window while letting the game run in another. I did like the view on the side showing the mining. Overall a solid entry. :)
OH MY GOD THIS GAME IS SO ADDICTING WHYYY.
Pros:
- Factor.io had a baby with Satisfactory in Isometric dimension, creating this - Penguins are instalike - There are different kinds of Penguins, - Actually, there's lots of them! - It's kinda balanced to a certain point, which is still pretty impressive - I spent too much time playing it - I adore Voxel art! - Music is a nice touch - Economy / Base building and complexity is deep and very well done for that short amount of time
Cons:
- The game does not allow quick menuing (esc, click, esc, click etc) - The game does not allow multiple building spawning (have to go to menu (wait for menu?!) and build and then select again etc) - You have to be REALLY Consistent in your building behaviour, otherwise you will have no clue what building produces what Penguin type (Tents / houses). Would love any icon or indication above - Above points applies to utility buildings. Would love to see what I am actually given at time being - The timing on spawning penguins is strange, seems a bit random - When clicking on any building menu, clicking 'close' while menu is on the other buldings may trigger menu for the building which is under the button. Got quite annoyed after few times - Adding more penguins to do the same job SHOULD NOT reset the progres!
Overall a very addicting and promising title, which just begs for QoL features and more music and extras. Would love to see an actual product out of this. Great Job so far!

Nice Idle game! I played this for quite a long time also. I'm not really a fan of idle games in general because they always consume all of my time haha. But this was good looking, had nice music, and a good theme. I also liked the mining graphic on the right - nice touch!
Noticed 2 bugs: - If you click the 'build' button while also over a building, it opens both menus (should only open build) - The monument percentage resets to zero if you deselect it...
Also it would be good to have some animation on the main map, like penguins walking around or movement in the buildings just to bring them to life!
So I didn't wait for the monument to be finished, but did make it that far - all in all, a very nice entry, good job! Capture.PNG
What HUUUGE work ! I'm so impressed by the result, it's so difficult to make this kind of game during a jam :muscle:
I think, there is all required features to make the game interesting. Voxel design is cute (specialy peeguins). With more animations and Fx the game could be very juicy and become a commercial game.
There is an issue, sometimes, I can't drop the building and it stuck on the mouse cursor.
Great game !
Wound up playing this game for quite a while to get the ending, although a lot of that time was AFK. The grind to get the ice palace at the end is pretty long, so I just got all of my systems into equilibrium and waited it out. Having to switch what mineral my blacksmiths and gathering huts were focusing on depending on my needs was a neat mechanic, although it could be circumvented by just building more and more. Overall, pretty solid game, although the grind was a bit much. Nice work!
Thank you all for the great feedback! :) Indeed much of the QoL features are planned for a post jam version, including adding more for the late game.
@duck-reaction Did you possibly notice a pattern when the building placing would not work? In any case, you can abort the placing with your right mouse button.
@lucavazz sadly no, I haven't noticed any pattern (seems like something hard to debug) :worried:
It's fine to have some bugs in jam game. The work is still impressive and the game is well finished
Holy Macaroni Penguins, what is this game!? There's an incredible amount of content here for a jam game, congratulations! You start out with a couple of tents, then half an hour later you're managing 100+ penguins and 13 different resources to build an ice-monument with robot penguins, crazy stuff...
I can't add much to what was already said above: QOL updates would be great, but ultimately I too just gave up at the monument after I couldn't make it complete a single percent, even though it was consuming resources... The game has turned into a bit too much of an idle/clicker game by that point, but the progression and awe I felt until that point was outstanding. Hats off!
The game is insanely big for 72 hours of work! I liked in the beginning that cape penguins had a variety of jobs (fishing, wood, bamboo), but was a bit disappointed to see most other penguins only had one job. Something that would be nice is a way to see a buildings settings without opening it. When you have a mess of buildings, it's hard to know which penguins are living where, and what jobs are set
I liked visual style of the game.
