LD28 — You Only Get One

Shine by AdventureIslands 2013-12-17T18:12:00

Loved it :)

The sprites blend amazingly and the ball gameplay fits the theme perfectly, while being very original. However, the music is a bit annoying, and sorta makes you want to rush, which is the opposite of what you actually have to do!

At first it's a bit hard to get used to the ball not being affected by gravity (I was afraid to stop clicking haha), but then it's nice :D

On the fun side I'd say it's a bit slow-paced for my taste, but still good :)

Infinite Fame by bitslap 2013-12-17T20:31:00

Oh my god XD

That was so intense! At first I was a bit confused (maybe add a 'HOLD YOUR FIRE' at the start?) but once I got the hang of it, it was really something :) A bit sad about the lack of music / sound tho, and that it's so short!

Great game :D

Glitcher //nuts = 1 by 01rafael 2013-12-25T00:33:00

Crazy minigunned-hitler died a lot :(.
But the game is fast and funny! However, it's a little bit difficult to swipe without tablet/phone, but not a big problem.
Nuts slowed me down and that was weird. Anyway this game is funny, good job! :)

Charon by jerombd 2013-12-24T20:41:00

I came here because of the graphics, nicely done :). The gameplay is a little bit confusing and the story is quite short. I liked it though, great job!

Doubt by rxi 2013-12-17T22:14:00

Simply magnificent :)

Smashy Smashy by ossah 2013-12-25T01:01:00

I failed miserably too many times :(.

Great game, very funny! However, it would be better if the difficulty of the game increased with every stage.

48h game, great job! I liked the texts, audio and fonts. Graphics were simple but acceptable. :)

Hasty Pirate by Thijsku 2013-12-18T20:48:00

Ahoy!! I was passin' by and I noticed this game in Metaldemon's Twitch channel, and I have t' admit it's completely awesome. Good job, graphics, gameplay and music, which sets t' mood :)

Carnage by MrAmazingSocks 2013-12-25T00:43:00

I felt like shooting with a toy gun :(.
I think you need more feedback so as to make the player feel more integrated with the game.
How did you implement the bullets? My game was also made with Unity and we implemented bullets as GameObjects with a PhysicalCollider and the graphics stuff (a Sprite with a texture in our case), would it be easy to add any kind of graphic element to your bullets?

48h game, nicely done despite of the mistakes :)

BUTTERSLIDE by Mnemusyne 2013-12-18T18:31:00

An awesome design of the levels; despite being a puzzle-type, it's very intuitive. The graphics and audio are simple yet fitting. The happiness of the toast is a bit creepy, because it's hitting walls and knives as it slides about, so extra mood points for that awkwardness XD

Underbyte by unusualcadence 2013-12-20T02:00:00

Great game :)

The theme isn't really there much, but the rest is awesome. Love how the grass and the clouds share the sprite, just like in Mario XD

The glitch part is very unique and funny :)

Key by Key by stefan 2013-12-17T21:23:00

I only got to level 5 :(

It felt boring overall, since it was only a 'fetch' game, with barely any difficulty. On level 5 it seems to expand, but then you only get a bigger map where you can't really see the whole picture, so you have to find which keyhole/key is really accessible before you grab a key.

Lack of Audio doesn't help either, and I can't really understand why the repeat-levels-but-they're-easier thing exists XD

One Duck by Stratovarius 2013-12-17T22:04:00

It's creepy, a lot! But it's funny :)

Candy Runner by AtomicVikings 2013-12-20T02:17:00

Really fancy art, I like it :) The gameplay is not bad, but the key change usually comes before a jump, and sometimes it goes from '.' to F2, which are not close at all, so it's hard to react, since the change doesn't show at the middle.

The music is happy but it gets old real quick though, and the collisions fail a lot :( I'm guessing the boxes are too big!

Still, good job :D

Hidden Prison by javifugitivo 2013-12-17T20:26:00

Great game overall :)

Love the idea, but the NPC scripting is a bit buggy, since I got sighted and the guard tracked my Thief even though my Siren was the one who was spotted. He got stuck at a corner (Thief was hiding behind a wall) and from then on no guards cared about me, so I got all the rest of the characters until I needed the Thief, then tried to handcuff the guard and failed miserably :(

Going to give it a second round before I rate it completely :D

The Great Quest of Internship by Ekilibr 2013-12-17T21:12:00

Nicely done! :D I liked the story, and hope you can get one job :)

Blight by bsowers 2013-12-20T22:23:00

Just reached level 5 :)

The mood is incredibly, with both the music and the introduction giving you the creeps. Then the procedural generated levels (or at least random starting positions) add variation to the game, which is something my own lacked.

There are five kinds of enemies and as many weapons (sword, bow, scales, death's scythe... am I missing any? XD) but to be honest, I found most of them frustrating: for example, spamming the bow is awesome, but sadly you can't strafe, so it becomes useless quite fast. The sword doesn't do much damage even though you have to get close. The scythe moves around in a pattern which I found quite unhelpful, and while it's away you lose your only weapon. The scales were my preferred weapon :)

The quantity of enemies is cool, but the game lacks any kind of healing, so it gets rough real quick, and fleeing is sometimes not an option when there's an enemy on the way. So yeah, it's a good game but lacks a bit of QA, which is to be expected of a LD of course :)

Great job!

Only One: A Gentleman's Game by DrPrettyPatty 2013-12-17T21:32:00

Nice art :{

A game befitting a true gentleman indeed haha

one.job:survive by joekinley 2013-12-25T01:21:00

Funfunfunfun pew pew sound was cool. Nice game, I liked it :)

The Last Cookie by kookoon 2013-12-18T18:23:00

Yummy :3

The graphics are nice to look at, despite the outfit of the grandma (I mean, why are her nipples depicted? why using such a short dress? Feels like there's a need for a paedo ending haha).

The details are cool too, like the cat in the oven (would've been awesome to hear him meow XD), even if the gameplay itself was a bit dull :_(

BULLETS ARE FATAL by pele 2013-12-18T18:58:00

Art is beautiful; the animations are perfect, the designs are very well done. I'm sad about the downscaling and the clipping that happened mid-way though :( Hope you can reupload a post-compo with the proper assets!

Gameplay-wise it's neat; hard enough to make it a challenge but still doable :D The music totally fits the game and the mood overall is completely western :)

Yogo and the almighty mat thieves by kalth.streil 2013-12-17T18:28:00

Just spotted a critical bug! One of the monster types can't be killed and thus you can't end your gameplay. We'll kill that bug asap! Give us 10 mins to reupload the version!

Yogo and the almighty mat thieves by kalth.streil 2013-12-17T20:15:00

Thanks javi :)

Btw, all is fixed now! You can now play to your heart's content!

Yogo and the almighty mat thieves by kalth.streil 2013-12-17T21:18:00

Originally slimes had a nice rolling death animation, but I was messing with plane rotations and the scripter hated me, so I left only the colour part :(

Also, the wand is intended to be hard to aim, because it hits for double the arrows heh and you also get teleport, which is awesome for melee enemies XD

Thanks for the comments :)

By the way, nobody commented on the nerd references so far :( The infamous three-red-lights of the Xbox 360, the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann / Kill La Kill enemies, the player death... XD

Yogo and the almighty mat thieves by kalth.streil 2013-12-17T21:20:00

Hey stefan, what'd you mean you couldn't make the weapons work? They should work every time you hit the mouse, as long as the animation has finished (has a small cooldown to prevent spamming XD)

The 2D/3D idea was originally intended for a different setting, so I can see why some wouldn't really like it :)

Yogo and the almighty mat thieves by kalth.streil 2013-12-17T22:48:00

Well for you people dying, I'm gonna drop some pro tips:
-Wrench: prepare the attack before closing up on the enemy. Most enemies should die of 1-2 hits. (Hard)
-Crossbow: keep moving all the time while raining bolts on the slimes. (Easy)
-Magic wand: keep moving but point to where the slimes would be in 3s. If you get melees in range, warp away. Try to keep yourself on the bottom of the area to be able to warp better. (Easy~Hard)

Yogo and the almighty mat thieves by kalth.streil 2013-12-18T00:10:00

Greedy b*! XD

Thanks for playing :D

I'm gonna put the Yogo endings in the original post so the curious people won't die :)

So check them!: http://pastebin.com/AZCNHMCY

Yogo and the almighty mat thieves by kalth.streil 2013-12-21T12:32:00

It's ok, the intro was originally meant to be skippable, but that was cancelled due to a last minute bug :(

We know that not many care about stories, but we thought we'd still provide one for those who enjoy some context for their killing!

Definitely needs some QA on the speed of the attacks, but what's wonky about the controls themselves? I found the WASD + mouse a flawless combo!

Thanks for the review by the way :D

Don One goes to space. by alvarop 2013-12-18T23:03:00

Took like 7 chances, but I beat it :D

Very well done for a first LD. The game is so funny, with all the phrases here and there. The initial image from gamejolt is too cool ( http://i.gjcdn.net/imgserver/game-header/950/20108_1.jpg ). Nicely done, sir :D

Imposter by Korwegian 2013-12-17T21:14:00

For me it's been real frustrating :(

Maybe it's not working as intended, but shooting was really annoying, since my controls didn't work properly and 2 out of 3 times I shot the air, with them saying just 'What?' (shooting yourself would've been much cool btw XD)

So since I have no idea if this is how it should be, I won't rate you yet :(

yogo by khahem 2013-12-18T21:36:00

Great level design, simple yet effective graphic and music, and overall fun yet chilling :)

I don't know if the robots where supposed to go step by step when following me, but I surely used that to make it easier haha

SCUMBAG by Avant-Marde 2013-12-17T22:42:00

Now that was a depressing experience :_(

I tried too hard to find the good ending, but in the end I never got it. I just got to the train, but then bought a ticket (was I not to? why did they place me at the station then? XD) and died again. I like the question-over-text thing, too bad I missclicked on next so many times :(

I'll give you five for mood, as in it makes you feel sad XD

PUSH by Patacorow 2013-12-17T21:55:00

Great game! I played until 19 (80 retries :<). Nice graphics and mechanics. Really fun! :D

Midnight Minigun by jimmypaulin 2013-12-24T20:46:00

I died miserably :(
I liked it, very simple graphics and its funny. Great job :)

You only get one COLOUR by soy_yuma 2013-12-17T18:26:00

Quite original :) The theme presence is quite obvious, and it's quite fun.

Just a bit frustrated about it having no sound and not having any kind of UI which shows the current colour number, since I kept pressing the button just to remember it!

You only get one COLOUR by soy_yuma 2013-12-17T22:51:00

Oops! Sorry, it DID have sound. My mistake, I accidentally muted Chrome :(

Sadly, the sound makes the whole experience more depressing. But I guess that's in the mood, so kudos for that :D

One Jump by Scipio Xaos 2013-12-18T00:20:00

I really love the animation and the midair jump XD

However, it's really hard and I actually haven't been able to finish stage 3 (the one with the switch) because...
-Friction does not exist in this world, ergo you have to move while on the platforms! And they go so fast it's hard not to fall XD
-The movement of the platforms is not really well timed and sometimes it's plain impossible to make the jump to get up, so you gotta move with the platform back and forth this the opportunity arises.
-After you press the switch you can't get into the platform the first time. This makes the scene completely frustrating after a few tries XD

TITAN SOULS by Claw 2013-12-18T00:07:00

Really awesome. The pixel-art is beautiful yet functional, the music is very well placed. The game fits the theme perfectly with the 'only one' arrow to use, and even though it's really hard, it's also very fun to play!

Once Charged by pighead10 2013-12-17T20:54:00

A frustrating experience XD

Firstly: it'd be nice if you could trigger the enemies yourself, since phase 4 is quite hard.

Secondly: the damn laser guys ignored the laser cubes and shot through them to catch me, that's unfair >:(

Nice game :D

LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Kamikaze Snail: They see me sliding, they hatin'! by kalth.streil 2014-04-29T13:52:00

shadow64, it should be working now! Well, at least for me it is hehe

soulrot, where did you get stuck? Only the orange part and the core have real collisions that can't be avoided; rocks on the outer levels can be destroyed with your bazooka!

Plus, so can the shurikens, so if you shoot them you won't need to dodge! You can also press 'q' to deactivate self-damage and use the recoil to push you out of harm's way! Our poor snail can only be so fast by himself, even with a jetpack!

Kamikaze Snail: They see me sliding, they hatin'! by kalth.streil 2014-04-29T16:47:00

Haha yeah well... the thing is that time-wise we couldn't implement the rotation, but you're a snail, so part of the thing is that you stick to the walls and go slower (very helpful for the whole spikey part, specially the extra hard segment!). So the slowing down on touching a wall is a feature, even if it's a frustrating one! The scale needs tweaking in order for it to work properly though, so sorry for that! :(

Also, make sure you pick up the half-delay pots, I had fun getting to the edge of a room full of beetles and firing away like mad, stopping shurikens mid-air! haha

LD35 — Shapeshift

Gene Thief by Galan 2016-04-25T13:11:00

Fun game but the theme-related part comes more as a punishment than a feature and it's really confusing! Also I find it weird that ranged enemies basically suicide into you while melees are slower hehe I was kicked out of the screen though :(

neon:morph 2000 by JonathanG 2016-04-25T12:59:00

Nice idea and well-made long levels! Controls become frustrating soon and the transformations take a while to appear though

Shifting Stronghold by alyphen 2016-05-07T12:17:00

I like the concept, but it feels so incomplete :( No info whatsoever, and the controls feel clunky because the movement doesn't match the scenario. I finished the puzzle and I won, but there's nothing else to do!

Shape Research Lab by SaintHeiser 2016-05-07T12:10:00

Good entry! I'm not a fan of mouse-based controls, but the graphics are great, and the game feels complete from the beginning! Mechanics are clever too :D

Spellbound by Almax27 2016-04-26T17:54:00

I missed so many times... Nice game! I liked the graphics and the integration of the music, good use of Unity, animations and stuff. Would have liked some progression tho, the casting arrow going faster, the enemies attacking more often...

A Soul of Clay by fullmontis 2016-04-26T18:08:00

LET ME OUT! Cool game, nice mood. I really liked the music and depth of the story :)

Warping Ninja by Glockenspiel 2016-04-26T17:16:00

Surprisingly fun! I didn't understand the 'warp' thing at first, but once you get to use it, it's quite convenient! Nice game :)

The Incredibly Silly Adventures of Jake the Gerbil by kalth.streil 2016-04-19T01:57:00

Web released! Rest of the platforms uploading atm! :)

The Incredibly Silly Adventures of Jake the Gerbil by kalth.streil 2016-04-19T02:27:00

There we go! All set I think; Please let us know if you find any troubles with any of the versions! And do have fun!! :D

The Incredibly Silly Adventures of Jake the Gerbil by kalth.streil 2016-04-25T13:32:00

Yep Freank! Just added it, thanks a lot! :)

Also thanks for the feedback ZirconCode! I tried playing yours but Java Security is being a partypooper :< I'll try it again later!

The Incredibly Silly Adventures of Jake the Gerbil by kalth.streil 2016-04-25T18:34:00

Thanks guys! Digitaldude555, try rolling with the 'G', you'll shred those snakes in no time :D

The Incredibly Silly Adventures of Jake the Gerbil by kalth.streil 2016-04-26T13:36:00

After seeing that Chrome has issues with the Web release, we opted to replace it with the universal WebGL version. No more errors*!

*Browser-based errors!

The Incredibly Silly Adventures of Jake the Gerbil by kalth.streil 2016-04-28T01:48:00

Hey guys! Thanks for the feedback :)

About the font... sorry! I actually created that hideous font in like 10 mins haha. Tried to fit M and W in an old-school style while keeping it 4 pixels wide and that created way too much confusion.

About the power-ups: you can get cheese (HP+1), spikes (10s temporary spikes) or an explosion. I'm sorry the audio feedback didn't make the final game, since we already had the sounds. Alas, level-design was a priority over it.

As for the platforms outside the playable area, the game procedurally pops platforms in the viewable area. Since making the areas too simple was boring, some compromises had to be taken, and so sometimes platforms pop outside your reach. Oops!

PS: Kite / Spring I mostly use to get to the top platforms myself!

The Incredibly Silly Adventures of Jake the Gerbil by kalth.streil 2016-05-02T18:06:00

Oops! Indeed Szabin! That's a whooping extra 115MB >__<

The Incredibly Silly Adventures of Jake the Gerbil by kalth.streil 2016-05-07T23:15:00

Hmm it shouldn't be! Some tips:

1-The first snake can be killed easily by using G and running over them.
2-The snake corridor can be obliterated with the coffee power-up (alternatively just run them over carefully).
3-The Spikey section needs gliding: just go slow, use space and then maneuver with W and D.

It shouldn't be too problematic! It's only there so that you are ready to deal with the arenas (which have high platforms and multiple spawns).

The Incredibly Silly Adventures of Jake the Gerbil by kalth.streil 2016-05-10T11:55:00

Thanks for the gameplay! :)

Sadly, the 'press space while on the air to pop the kite' message was too long and obtuse, so it seems most people had issues with the spikes. Oops!

Big Fist Man by t4u 2016-04-26T16:41:00

Why is Saitama trowing red punches to some pirates? That was fun and I killed the big one! :D I didn't like the controls tho, it was like playing Quake when I didn't have mouse :( Good overall, better knowing it was your first LD with Unity!

Laser Town by Hectigo 2016-04-26T17:59:00

Great puzzle game, I really like the design, mechanics, graphics and game overall.

Figure Shift by Simaflux 2016-05-07T12:01:00

Loved it! The concept reminded me of Quarto (a board game), and in fact I think that it could be expanded in that way (adding a 'size' besides color and shape, you could ask for figures that share 1, 2 or even the 3 traits). Good job!

motion: a by sepharoth213 2016-04-26T17:50:00

What did I just play? Awesome, really good job!

SkinStealer by korvyashka 2016-05-07T12:26:00

The idea is amazing! A better tutorial would really help (I died so many times at first because I didn't know I was burning people lol), but once you get the hang of it, it's great! :D Some random screaming noises to go with the munch-munch would go a long way by the way!

Duck by Szabin 2016-04-26T17:00:00

Simply fun, nice design. Having some music (even if not yours - not evaluable) would make it better :) - Very good job!

Project: D.A.S.H by muffty 2016-04-25T13:28:00

Voice addition is a lot of fun haha! Animations are good too :)

Public Opinion by Finn Stokes 2016-04-25T13:05:00

It's really innovative, but as stated requires an IA or another player to get the best out of it. Lack of sound hurts it a bit too (you could've recorded two different tones of hums easily and played with the levels for example!), but it's still good!

Blobby Slime by williambsm 2016-04-26T16:52:00

OH! The jumping radioactive alien rabbit fell again :( This was kinda fun, very nice intro! It'd be funnier if it had some progression: more speed over time, for example. Music went off after a while btw, should be lopping :( --- First game ever? You are in a good direction, keep practising with Unity, and see you in the next LD? :D

TowerShifter by mzhovnach 2016-04-26T17:44:00

You reversed the concept of tower defense, WOW. Cool graphics, fun, nice game! Well done :)

Exhuman by Arvydas 2016-04-26T17:41:00

Really really NICE graphics. I liked this game, it was funny to kill all those enemies :) A bit hard at first, but things change when you get a ranged weapon ;)

zerkitu by Paradoxa42 2016-04-25T13:21:00

Gameplay is fun but controls take some time to get used to! Please give us a WASD option :(

Element Undesired by Dawdawdo 2016-04-26T17:08:00

I really like the pixel-art graphics, would have loved some sprite animations for the fire, water... At first, it's a little bit confusing and you are not sure if you are fire. Nice job!
