Very relaxing game. I like how it's basically Tetris, but in 3D but way more calm. Very addictive as well - had to stop playing because I want to see other games after all :)

Controls are a little bit janky. On top of what you've already mentioned in the post (blocks are hard to placed and are sometimes aligned non-intuitively to where you put your mouse) and small nitpicks (like too high sensitivity for camera rotation) the choice of some input methods is questionable, but maybe it's just a preference. For instance, scroll for rotating blocks feels weird. Also, if you're already dragging to rotate the camera, maybe you could use up and down movement to move the camera up or down? I don't know, it's probably something you should test, which, of course, you presumably didn't have time for.

Apart from that, gameplay is very nice and occasionally challenging, graphics are nice and simple, music fits the mood of the game. Solid entry.

One thing I wish is there was a web build of the game. People are generally more encouraged to play jam games if they don't have to download and unpack stuff, and you can post a web build post-jam, so you should probably do that!

Anyway, as I've said, spent some time on it: high.png

bredera 2023-10-03 08:52

@krzyhau Thank you for playing our game and giving such detailed feedback! We did try different control schemes and eventually decided on the current iteration as it felt the most comfortable and doable in the limited time there was. Definitely something on the to do list if we decide to develop the game further

Currently working on a WebGL version. Thank you for the suggestion totally slipped our minds yesterday evening.

P.s: You are currently world record holder of Blockies :grinning:

bastian-bresson 2023-10-03 09:39

Very nice game. A bit hard controlling the game on a laptop :D Nice challenge!

deltamain 2023-10-03 10:35

Such a relaxing and polished game! Really enjoyed playing it!

favoured-fool 2023-10-03 11:02

Very nice and relaxing game! I really like the theming of creating a videogame and just cramping as many features as possible into it. To really nail this idea down, I'd love to have some way to track all the things that I've put in my game, so that in the end I don't just have a highscore but can also imagine how this monstrocity of a game might look like.

nozomu57 2023-10-03 13:02

Oh no, instead of rating games I just played your game for an hour... Blockies_xPJ2vaZVpG.jpg

Super relaxing and chill! Would love the addition of precise positioning via buttons, sometimes I could not click on the field because mouse was hovering one specific cube of the figure, and I wanted it to be hovering after placement. This is what killed me in the end :)

marti-mayolas 2023-10-03 15:25

Really cool idea, great atmospherer with de graphics and sound, congratulations!!

kinami 2023-10-03 15:35

Nice and relaxing 3D puzzle! 😃

I can't believe you made this in just 72 hours! It feels so polished!

The placement of blocks is sometimes a little clunky when trying to place in a hole on the ground, but otherwise everything is great - the controls, the visuals, the music, the sounds.

It all comes together as a nice relaxing puzzle! Well done! 😊

bredera 2023-10-03 15:39

@bastian-bresson & @deltamain Thank you for playing! Glad you enjoyed it!

@favoured-fool Great suggestion! That would be really cool maybe if the game is developed further we can do something like that

@marti-mayolas Thanks. Happy to hear you enjoyed the game!

@kinami Somehow we managed to have almost the whole of Monday left for the last small features and a lot of polishing and finetuning. We are really happy with how it ended up. Glad you enjoyed the game 😊

0020dandy 2023-10-03 16:53

Wow, I spent like an hour completely immersed in this game. I really like that the humor is especially relevant for the game's audience

zwikkelbaard 2023-10-03 16:58

Very relaxing, mouse and camera control feels good most of the time, theres these rare angles were you would think i can get a piece in there but it doesnt let you which is my only gripe here. The music is also great makes me really take my time and keeps me playing longer

mortusnegati 2023-10-03 17:49

A game like this could really use an undo button. Once you misplace a piece because the camera angle was bad it sort of kills your fun. I really enjoyed the experience. Chill music, nice game play.

evogengames 2023-10-03 17:57

Nicely done! Nice feature ideas and well written. The music is really relaxing!

nicholaspfo 2023-10-03 18:31

Very cool game, looks polished and playing feels very soothing

coderaurus 2023-10-04 08:34

Very immersive, relaxing experience. I enjoyed it a lot. As you are aware, there were some cases where the placing was causing trouble.

Good work!

caladrius 2023-10-04 10:37

Oh this is INCREDIBLY good. Hooked immediately. It's a good thing I got unlucky and game overed or I reckon I would've just played this forever

nathmate 2023-10-04 10:53

Would be nice to have a "cut away" view so you could place pieces in the middle more easily, though maybe it's intended to be a skill thing to build from side to side. Cool game, very enrapturing.

miraculousmelon 2023-10-05 07:41

Chill, 3D tetris, I love it. Biggest issue is just some slightly janky piece placement when trying to place pieces in a way that overhangs. I like how you cycle through the pieces, giving big ones and then a few small ones as a break (I assume this is intentional?) But yeah, great game, I could play this for ages!

fatemperor 2023-10-05 17:36

The graphics, sound, concept and gameplay itself are on top. Thank you for making such a cool game.

stvup 2023-10-05 17:49

Pretty fun and chill, spent a good amount of time playing this. Biggest complaint would be not being able to see inside the center when you build around the sides. Other than that great game!

irinam 2023-10-05 18:02

Cool game for relaxation. I really love such games. Relaxing music + enjoyable gameplay.

thebmxeur 2023-10-06 09:29

Did 2075 and was happy, until I saw the comments. I wish we could rotate the block vertically, as my brain tricked me several times in picking blocks that would only fit if rotated vertically. Great game.

nekusoul 2023-10-06 17:56

Very chill and enjoyable. I'm not sure why, but the aesthetics remind me of freeware games from the 00s. Looks great.

bredera 2023-10-06 18:34

@0020dandy Thank you for playing the game for so long. Also glad you enjoyed the flavor texts

@zwikkelbaard Thanks for playing! Indeed the placement of the pieces could have been a bit smoother. still glad to hear you enjoyed it!

@mortusnegati Thanks for playing and great suggestion!

@evogengames @nicholaspfo @fatemperor @irinam @nekusoul Thank you all for playing. Awesome to hear that it was a good time overall :v:

@coderaurus Glad you enjoyed it! If we develop this further we will for sure have a look at the placing of the pieces to make it more responsive and smooth!

@caladrius Thank you for the kind words. Awesome to hear you enjoyed it. You can always come back and try to beat your previous score :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

@nathmate The cut away would be interesting to look into further. it was not intended that it would be more difficult to place blocks in the middle of the grid. Something we will have a look at if we develop this further!

@miraculousmelon Glad you enjoyed it! you are the first one that caught onto that. You go through each piece before the pieces repeat themselves. there is still some randomness to it. Interested to find out what your high score was

@thebmxeur Thank you for playing! we tinkered with the idea of rotating the block vertically but due to time constraints decided to not implement this. Maybe in the future .

ascenial 2023-10-07 05:18

this game was relaxing and really chill i really enjoyed the art it felt alot like tetris without the rush.

frozenfire92 2023-10-07 13:40

What an awesome game! The meta story of building a game was hilarious :joy: The atmosphere and gameplay were quite relaxing and chill. Keep on making games!

nyxkn 2023-10-08 14:52

I played this game for way too long :D Really well done! So relaxing and addicting. I felt it was a bit RNG, and because of the complexity of the blocks you could easily get screwed over. One thing I found very annoying was how you're not able to place vertical blocks that go downwards if you have a hole in the middle, because you can only grab them at the bottom. In general, some blocks couldn't be places how you wanted them because there was no cube just next to where you were grabbing the block, even if such a placement would have been valid.

Anyway, aside from the control issues, this was a really well made game. Very smooth gameplay. Maybe the menus could use some polish. But overall great game!

davision 2023-10-08 18:05

Nice to see another spin on Tetris! I also really like that you removed any time pressure as well and made it all about puzzleing. Some those shapes feel a bit much complex though. There also seems the issue that you can hide not filled space with your shapes never knowing why a layer is not filled. Otherwise its really fun! The game features aspect it also a nice touch, a real feature creep!

bigstrongddoge 2023-10-08 19:30

Tetris but it's 3D? It's also basically building your own skyscraper? Yes! I like how calming it is with the music and without the rush of normal tetris.

falestress 2023-10-08 19:33

Very cool game ! The game feel is amazing

Really enjoy playing games and starting again to improve! There is a lot of care that has been taken on this game !

We quickly become addicted to this game, it's a very good sign, we must continue to develop it !

Good job team

konfekt 2023-10-08 19:39

I think I wasn't the intended audience because I got a bit confused by the gameplay lol. But from the small bit I did manage to play, I enjoyed the descriptions of the blocks a lot along with the color scheme. Really innovative where you took the idea of limited space!

oscar-berry 2023-10-08 19:49

Great Tetris like congratulations!!!

danial-jumagaliyev 2023-10-08 22:57

A clever concept for a 3D tetris game! Placing blocks felt really satisfying, and I like the little details about the different blocks having different "game features", it makes it all a pretty unique experience!

somewan 2023-10-09 08:29

This 3D Tetris game really tests my spatial skills. It's a super addictive and time-killing casual game. I wonder if the blocks can rotate vertically?

bitculture 2023-10-09 18:43

Excellent puzzle game! I liked the look of the thumbnail so I thought I'd give it a shot and I'm so glad I did. Of the games I've played for this jam, this one REALLY nailed replayability - AND it's easy to understand the rules from just looking at it. Had a hard time moving on to play other games. While the controls were a little wonky, I'm not sure anyone could do much better given the context and time constraints. Art is clean and very readable, which is paramount in a puzzle game (especially a 3d puzzle game). Music is super pretty and very chill - perfect vibe for relaxing and making Blockies. Amazing achievement for a tiny team of two. Great work!

phillips-albright 2023-10-10 04:38

Very cool, I like the graphics and audio. I think the game could be a bit more engaging if you could rotate the pieces on more than one axis and if the "game features" element was more prominent, maybe a list that populates your features or something else.

neowedge 2023-10-10 12:06

Very relaxing and challenging game. I enjoy it a lot, congrats!

tommy 2023-10-10 19:20

Great take on a classic game! Really liked the level of polishing you got, and the beautiful music and relaxing atmosphere. Only extra thing, I wished there was a command to lower pieces into place, to reach positioning that are quite challenging to reach by just pointing the mouse.

fizzbark 2023-10-11 10:08

Really good entry! The WebGL version chugs a bit but the windows build ran smooth as butter. I'm not sure if the building a game theme really added much - at the core of this game is a really good abstract puzzle and the words really just distract from that. Great UI and everything runs smooth apart from a few block placing systems - I sometimes was unable to place a block exactly where I wanted on higher layers. As @somewan already suggested vertical rotation would be an incredible feature(although might make it too easy) Very polished, great job, and even the positive language used on the buttons adds to this great experience.

aweskybear 2023-10-11 17:41

It's good. It's quite.. pretty challenging!

This is not a trivial game to implement : ))) Congrats on the effort and the mesmerizing result (both visually and in terms of audio)! Perfectly fits the theme! Perfectly!

Now to the bit of honest and from the top-of-my-head feedback.

**1)** Short-tempered people will not go too far with this game :/

I am not saying I am short-tempered, I did a few runs, but it's a bit *hard* to always understand and *see* if a given piece will fit in. This is an inherent property of the game, I know but MAYBE it could be improved with **1**: being able to change camera perspective?? Imagine - like a 3d editing software / I don't know.. that's one idea - the game itself is a challenge for this. Not sure if camera angle - bu a few presets for camera angles could be nice.. maybe.

**2)** It could just be me but... I got a bit irritated and felt slightly limited that I couldn't rotate the pieces in *every* possible direction. While this could be on purpose, this makes for the player to feel more limited than the already-limited space :P provides. It's already hard enough to place tetris pieces in 3d space.

Those 2 things are the main. It's honestly a HARD job to make it *perfect* and probably there is no perfect, so have to say **respect** for your out-of-the-box entry : )))

Hope the above provides some help! Good Luck!

oddballdave 2023-10-13 10:39

This is a good solid game. I suspect it does everything you set out to achieve. I like the graphics, simple but effective, and they fit the Tetris aesthetic perfectly. Personally I'd have liked full keyboard controls, moving pieces and moving the camera bound to keys. I did have one issue with not being able to rotate the camera, not sure why. Other than that, everything was great. Good stuff :8ball:

papaver 2023-10-13 12:48

Nice game!

Since many pieces had a flat base, but my tower didn't always have a flat top surface, I really wanted to rotate the pieces vertically. Nice calm choice of music. I liked the names and descriptions of the different pieces.

Well done!

contro1990 2023-10-13 12:49

This game is addicting. Too much. TOO TOO MUCH! Good job!

thyoi 2023-10-14 06:07

Untitled.png let's go!! This game is fantastic. I've been playing it all day.

keely-brown 2023-10-14 12:17

The art style was very slick/the music was pleasant. I wasn't fully convinced by the game development theming but I do think you chose a cool mechanical concept for the LD theme. Small thing I noticed when playing but it might be better if it wasn't a requirement to have to place the base cube of a shape on the surface if other cubes on the shape are on the surface. I'm probably not good enough at visual mapping to be good at a game like this, but it seems like those kind of players really liked it!

constance 2023-10-14 18:11

Man, back then when I was a kid and played Tetris, I was thinking how it would be played if it was in 3D, but now, this entry has brought that imagination to live! And it turned out to be quite hard and complicated than I though it would be. I really like the graphics and the UI, very simple yet elegant, and the calming music just makes the experience more enjoyable and relaxing. The leaderboard was a good addition too, really increased the replay value!

There're some nitpickings I found by playing through the game several times. The first being the mouse sensitivity for rotating the camera, I think it's a little fast compares to the vertical movement. Second, it would've been a lot nicer to be able to rotate the pieces in all 3 axes instead of just the Y. That would create a lot of placement possibilities and greatly enhance the overall enjoyment, you have no idea how many times I wished I could rotate a piece on the X or Z axis just to fit it in that particular spot! Lastly, it's kinda hard to know if there were any unfilled spots left because the outer pieces hid them. I would suggest decreasing the transparency of the surrounding pieces a little bit if there're unfilled spots inside them, that would definitely make the experience of placing pieces more satisfying and forgiving.

But in conclusion, I really love this entry and I, wholeheartedly, appreciate the creativity along with the effort you guys put into it. That was a really special experience I had, it did made me reminisce about those good 'ol carefree days as a kid, magnificent job on this one!

psv-games-studio 2023-10-15 03:30

Great game! The game is very fun and addictive, without realizing it I spent more than 1 hour just playing it... The graphics are pleasant as is the music, which makes the game have a great atmosphere. Good job! Captura de Tela (966).png

raassh23 2023-10-15 07:36

Cool game! It's harder than i expected since the pieces can't be rotated vertically and the camera movement is quite limited, which i assume is intended. Nonetheless, it's still quite fun to play!

flaterectomy 2023-10-15 08:18

What a great relaxing experience, I am very happy you didn't throw a timer on this!

I screwed myself over a few times thinking I could rotate the block along an axis that I could not, a few times I misjudged how much vertical space I had left, and placing the blocks was at times difficult, but it kept me captivated nonetheless! Aside from a few throwaway low-scores, I scored a 3305 and a 20195.

Nice, clear color palette on the blocks. The scoreboard background gradient that's also the button trim kinda clashes with that neon style, I would've gone all in on the neon vibes instead there. Soothing music to boot. All in all, a great Tetris variant!

turbotartine 2023-10-15 08:56

Realy cool game ! (even if I'm realy bad at it ^^) The relaxing mood is an excelent choice I think. It could be tempting to put a stressful tone with a timer etc... but it works very well like that. The only down side I see is the pieces placement. Sometime there is room for a piece so your select it but you can't place it like you wanted because as far as I understand how it works, you snap one of the current piece's block on the mouse hovered bloc in the scene. But you can't predict/select which block of the current piece is the snaping one. But the concept works and that's what matters for a jam. Good job !

fahim-faysal 2023-10-15 10:38

Really relaxing. I'm surprised by how long I kept playing. I dig the neon look. Suggestions: Maybe have some way to see lower floors by making the top ones transparent(like when hover mouse over a lower floor). Some more juice would be great too. Tetris effect is a good example of how much far polish can take tetris. Overall, a very solid entry.

notnasiul 2023-10-15 13:47

It's indeed relaxing! As mentioned eariler, some juciness would do wonders for the experience. And I would even remove the explanations and leave it abstract - it's fun enough without the narrative layer! Great entry.

dsk 2023-10-15 15:43

Masterpiece!!!

I really like the 3D art style and core gameplay. The process of the game also impressed me a lot. It was a little bit hard at first, but I soon got the hang of it :)

a-bond 2023-10-16 15:53

Nice tetris-inspired game.

I like the slow pace and calming atmosphere. I like the metaphor of different pieces representing game features as well.

I think it would be more fun - both easier and more difficult, in different senses - if pieces could also be rotated around axes other than vertical.

thenbcorpse 2023-10-19 06:31

I was promised relaxation and oh my did you not disappoint. Absolutely amazing and addicting, I just played for over an hour without even realizing it. Quite a few no-brainer 5/5 category ratings, this is easily one of the most fun Ludum Dare games I've played in quite some time.

Managed to get a score of over 13000, getting a nice respectable place of 6th on the leaderboard. Unfortunately it got stuck in a scenario where both choices were 4 blocks tall and had nowhere to go, but the game's so relaxing I can't even be disappointed.
