LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Shadows Below by HeroesGrave 2014-05-03T22:37:00

Woah, real roguelike in 72h, that's something!

Writings on tombstones were funny :)

But I found quite annoying those log messages. I have feeling like they hid something useful from me. Cleaning option, or making them fade away after some time would be great.

Armadrillo by dalbinblue 2014-05-03T22:22:00

Nice music, and graphics. That fox merchant! Haha!

And I really like upgrades. Too bad I didn't happen to collect million. Though day passing mechanics is great! (:

I think it'd be great to allow player to drill vertically in caverns underground. Sometimes it's really hard to get out.

Surflight by iiechapman 2014-05-03T20:43:00

Looks great. Please make windows version available :)

Bunker Down by JuiceBox Entertainment 2014-05-03T23:19:00

Simple, but fun, and great grapics.

The only 'buts' it it's froze at first when Alex died, I couldn't reprocude that tho.

Rise of Demons by TeamKl0n 2014-05-03T18:16:00

Really cute graphics, and nice music. Could be really fun if you have someone to play with :)

The Last Dwarf by Nuclear_Hammer 2014-05-03T23:05:00

Great graphics and intro. But audio is a little bit tiring after first 10 minutes.

I have some mixed feelings about gameplay. At first I thought it's some crimsonland clone with dwarf, and lower difficulty. I was walking around and then... wow. There are stairs. And then gameplay changed from "I wonder what should I do" to that quite irritating Diablo 2 feeling, when you need to search caverns to find that one, last monster...

If you ask me I'd make first levels little smaller, to get a grip on game objective. Also I'd make monster respawn time little longer.

But overall it's fun to play :)

Dwarves Manager, NES Game by Khopa 2014-05-04T08:55:00

It'd be great to see how many fireballs I can take, one time I abandoned 2 dwarfes, and run with one, and I'm pretty shure he didn't recieve any fireball, but died anyway. Either way I left with single dwarf, but not the one I was moving ;)

And as someone noticed I expected something to pop-up to dig. At first I was convinced that those 2 other dwarfs ARE some sort of gold chest, lol.

And for comments, I wonder if someone ever said "Too bad it's a web game I don't have web browser :(" it's weird to see statements like that, when we have at leat 25 nes emus (wiki list + nesbox) these days. Heck there also nes emulators for smartphones!

Battle Through Hell! by shatley123 2014-05-03T17:56:00

Nice mood and all. It really reminds Doom, and Hexen.

But... I'd appreciate some hit animations for player. Little "aah" sound or sth.
At first, after going into that chamber with hole I died from zombie and didn't even saw what killed me. Nor that I'm getting hurt.
Some hit animations for enemies'd be great too. After first three shots I was like "can I kill them anyway? Maybe they're the same as immortal skeletons from Tomb Raider 4?".

I love 3rd weapon, but it seems to be much weaker than shotgun, or even simple handgun.

In my last playthrough I went to that pentagram room, and then to key-room, through that door located near exit, but it was empty!
Zombies went through closed door, then went to pentagram room to reach me. Weird but funny glitche.

Oh and last but not least. Making prison doors transparent to projectiles could be nice addiction :)

A Day in the Life by iambored2006 2014-05-04T10:23:00

Pretty depressing... but lol... you can start a family or be happy :D

Within The Skin by Stratovarius 2014-05-04T09:55:00

Another organic variation of theme! Great! But hope I don't have swarm like these under the skin ;D

Mobile version should be funny.

Blackwald Forest by RevelBase 2014-05-03T22:06:00

Woah, looks very good, and reminds me visually of Little Big Planet :D and I love concept. It's good to be bad once in a while :)

The Ice Pond by Vytheros 2014-05-04T09:42:00

Extra space, or new line character after 'what you want to do' would be great.

Too bad it seems to be no distinction about command you can't use at time, and invalid command.

Also I go north from the starting point and well... I couldn't do anythink: 'south' was printing newline, and other commands were invalid. Too bad :(

FALL! by DanDias 2014-05-04T10:06:00

Haha, from the miniature I was so sure it's game about polandball.

Planet core come to fast if you ask me. It took me a while to understand why I'm suddenly going up, or 'oscilating' arount that hot belt (but maybe I'm stupid ;) )

As @Van Merwan said it's little hard to distinguish accelerators.

Light and Hate by wespaugh 2014-05-03T17:15:00

Great idea, and pretty hard to play to :)

On windows 7 - one time, after 5 restart, it stopped responding to keyboard.

Smoldering Star by Mikhail Lyubimov 2014-05-04T09:52:00

The mood. Sound and graphics. Great! (:

From the Under by damrem 2014-05-04T10:57:00

Nice game, it reminds me Captain Claw and Jazz Jack Rabbit :)

Upgrading hero after every death is funny idea, but I'd remake upgrade screen. It's quite confusing that to start the game I need to push proper key, I navigate by keyboard and then... bah! Mouse control.

Sometimes when I entered new room I fell down one screen without hero. Only moving camera was possible.

I really liked random generated levels. It was quite fun to approach high-level beetles only to find 1 and 2nd 'noob' monsters in next few screens :D

The Gamer by Rother Games 2014-05-03T15:06:00

Hmm... nice music, cool game concept but... Hm.

- That tutorial text: "use USB drive to hack" and "use gamer eyes, and pick up cover" followed me thro entire game.
- Collisions are little buggy, ex. I float between first computer and stairs.
- I'd be great if 1st computer actually do something visible. I used everything in both modes, before I give up and move along. Seeing 2nd computer really make me upset, but I tried to hack it, and hey, it worked.
Then I alt-tabed game and it crashed. I go 2nd time, didn't even bother with 1st comp, and encountered doors. Now I know that 1st comp actually do something, but...
- I'd be great if game covers were for something, not just collectables, ex they were slightly changing gamers eye mode, or sth.
- After reaching 2nd lvl game covers messed up.

Project Nether by TheOZone 2014-05-03T14:22:00

On windows 7, and java 1.7.0_03 it stops responding to input keys after clicking on game screen. Doesn't matter when I clicced - just after starting, while digging - it always blocks input. Only restart helps.

Some thoughts:
- Score should grow only when you go deeper underground.
- Short tutorial would be great. At first I didn't know what should I hit to regain fuel.
- More tiles! Ex. water that slows down ;)

And although I don't like this kind of games, I think your idea have potential as mobile.

Treasure Seeker by Konrad Zegis 2014-05-04T10:25:00

Thank you all for comments, I'm glad you liked my game :D

@Rad Star - there is restart button! Simply hit 'r'

Rise to Surface by jtrencsenyi 2014-05-03T14:34:00

It reminded me of old Bubble Dizzy game, and also - as someone stated before - a flappy bird :D

Too bad that fishes didn't do anything.

Beneath The Surface Of Scratch Ticket by dejant 2014-05-03T22:11:00

Love audio. It reminds me of that peacefull Ragnarok Online location themes :) also idea is really unique. And quite addicting, lol.

I'd like to see it on mobile :D

Everybody Hates Water Levels by Paladin 2014-05-03T16:13:00

Haha. I really liked that 'beep-beep' sound. And graphics, and idea. And all.

Elemental Serpent by Lafie 2014-05-03T20:40:00

Simple, yet addictive!

I love the idea of making steam, and possibility of stopping snake wherever I want.

In search of an Artist by suurin 2014-05-03T13:52:00

I really like stickman sprite, and animation. It reminds me of rayman :)
Some thoughts
- Too bad that first enemy just pushes me around, but cannot make me fall from platform or sth.
- I think that puck-up button is unnecessary. After all I must pick up all parts...

Robotick by Squid Blink Games 2014-05-03T20:57:00

I love the idea, and it's great to see somebody implemented theme in more 'organic' way, and overall impression.

But I have the impression that I cannot win this game. Blood spots seems to run out, and the game still keeps goin until I died.

Dungeons and Bombs by visard 2014-05-04T09:31:00

Looks a bit empty. I'd create smaller levels if there's no enemies at all. Also - as sb told before - 'treasure' sprite really do like like a fire.

Nevertheless it looks nice, and it's great that I don't have time to rest after setting a bomb (:

Down The Rabbit Hole - The Search for Golden Carrots by CeriseGhost 2014-05-04T09:05:00

Nice music. It don't tires you after first 10 minutes ;)

Love "carrots are good for eyes" pickup, that increases seeing range.

On 3rd level theres lot of invinsible walls. And maybe I'm little picky, but signs should have transparent backround.

Either way quite good. Liked that menu concept :)

Digging for Gold by JoshDBB 2014-05-03T20:24:00

Great game! :)
I love level design, they're fun, small but really I needed a while to think.

Too bad, that gold isn't sprite, like hero.

Digger Grave by ajfischer 2014-05-03T18:50:00

Wow. That audio.

As somebody stated before, I'd be nive to have some sort of fail condition. Maybe fuel pickup's instead of auto replenish?

Too bad that gravity don't influence gold piles.

Grave Rob by Sanguine 2014-05-03T18:28:00

Haha, reminds me of Crimsonland. Nice idea for making graves disappear, and so on :)

Into the Earth by john111898 2014-05-03T19:50:00

Hmm... colisions seems little buggy. They're many places where I can't perform jump.
Also it seems like it doesn't matter if I jump from ground level, or while standing on box, I always reach the same point. It was very iritating to pass that box-creating button from 1st lvl.

Also it's running very, very slow :(

RoBroMiner by CiderPunk 2014-05-04T08:35:00

That space captain looks somewhat creepy, but still great. I really like that commanding mechanics, and 'trial-and-error' gameplay.

I loved level with 2 RoBros :D

LD30 — Connected Worlds

Earth Rise Prototype by jayitinc 2014-08-26T20:06:00

Umm... it'd be great to see some tutorial or something. It took me while to notice that I can scroll down planetary info, and see galaxy map button ;)

Also I'm not sure if I can do anything other than create colony. There was pop-up with famine info, and that I should build more farms (but how?) and... well that's it. I lost colony :(

Cargo Corp. by TinyHat 2014-08-26T20:57:00

Nice graphics, and audio, I like how level is random generated each time. And that boost... wow! :D

The Link by simonnaus 2014-08-25T16:39:00

I really light the idea, and that 'choose wisely' impact for growing leafs. Graphics are great. Really aesthetic.

I think I'll return to your game when stressed. Thanks!

Space Horror by arzi 2014-08-26T14:51:00

I once played Arkham Horror and... woah. Changing it's setting to SF was great idea.

I really like graphics, but I found it little confusing at first which buttons I can press, and which I can't for now. Making disabled even more darker would be great I think. Also I'd be great if battle window was less transparent (maybe with bolder border?), first fight near that white planet (Blaskhyrk I believe) was little unreadable. And lastly it'd be nice to create some tokens for planets with portals already build on.

Asteroid fighters by xandy 2014-08-26T21:01:00

Funny variation of classic asteroids :D

Path of Supernova by NuSan 2014-08-25T22:06:00

Quite nice puzzle game, although it was quite hard for me to move more than supernova tile at once.

I'd like to see more levels!

Lotus by doos 2014-08-26T20:50:00

Hm, I was awful in normal Rubiks cube, and now I have Lotus to be awful at :D it's quite difficult to imagine how pieces will move after click.

Too bad there's no audio :(

Ultra Realistic Social Network Simulator by Ludipe 2014-08-25T17:28:00

It looks to me more like social experiment, maybe to make us realize how much time we waste. But, to be honest - lately I saw too much fake images with 'funny' disputes via social news feeds to really appreciate this idea. Sorry :(

A Series of Leaky Tubes by cjacobwade 2014-08-26T15:27:00

For some reason that music makes me headache :( although game is interesting, and I like that map showing effect.

The Swordman by iSamurai 2014-08-25T17:49:00

I like that dash animation, it really suits combat and theme. I'd love to see it with addition to some crazy anime sword fight (you know with 'energy slashes' and so on).

Nice graphics, but... is all I can do in first level is just die? :(

The MillionWood by frogcheese 2014-08-26T19:10:00

Uh, I liked the game, and concept of adding new world after each few levels, but music and that 'beating' light in background were too much for me :( especially after adding 3rd world: those little sprites were very tiring for my eyes.

On the other hand the way you connected levels was nice, difficult but not insane, and sprites are really nice!

Pluto's Revenge by sandaz13 2014-09-05T19:29:00

I like the idea, but it was really hard to hit asteroids at first, when Pluto is soo small ;)

Through by Recon 2014-09-05T20:39:00

Good to know I'm not the only one to use *.txt to describe levels :D

Graphics were enjoyable but I found it little tiring for my eyes, when hero speeded too much.

Overall it was very fun to play :D

The World Within by Oxeren 2014-08-25T21:49:00

I do love moral of this game, and graphics.
Also it's great that boy can "vaporize" differently based on what killed character.

Too bad in second 'level' it's nearly impossible to avoid shoots from more than 1 enemy at once. I think that playing with scale should help.

Interstellar, Inc. by JavadocMD 2014-08-25T21:17:00

I like the concept and gameplay. It's really hard to do something strategic but with really easy rules. Althrough it's sad that AI freezes.

I'd love to see version with working AI!

Linked by igoramendola 2014-08-25T16:13:00

Congratulations on finishing your game!
I like the mood, and graphics, but to be honest at first I was like "whaaa?" when I died from bee.

Keep up good work!

Untangle~! by Konrad Zegis 2014-09-01T12:31:00

@caranha - Thank you! I utterly forgot about frame-limiting!

Spaceway Transportation by CodeNMore 2014-08-26T14:09:00

Woah, little to fast for me, but I'm really impressed you managed to implement updates in such short time :D

Also I like graphics but - for so much text, I'd really appreciated if you made game window a bit bigger.

Conflicting Dimensions by Balint197 2014-08-26T15:58:00

Woah. Nice idea, and good level design.

I managed to "freeze" game. At level (i believe) 6, with 2 floors, bottom is all green, and upper is all blue. When I place blue cube on green and simultaniosly jump they'll stick to blue ceiling, and stop responding to keys.

Nevertheless I like it and would like to try it with someone.

Card Split Wars by SpringPowered 2014-08-26T18:37:00

If I were you I'd make some screens with less instructions, and show them one after another. Informations on that 2 screens are somewhat overwhelming. Also I missed information that I have 2 different cards to play at once, so I was confused for first 2 turns.

But it's nice, it gave me the feeling of that old strategy games :D

Shotgun Shinobi by QuexD 2014-08-25T19:27:00

It's weird that shotgun man jumps higher than ninja... and I don't know why but music reminds me of christmas O_o

TETHER by datacr4sh 2014-08-25T17:21:00

I really love that chain breaking effect after losing, and sounds. It reminds me of old NES games ;)

Building Bridges! by JetL33t 2014-08-25T20:30:00

I couldn't run this entry.
Windows version says it needs msvcp120.dll and tweaked needs msvcr120.dll :(

Shared Destiny by Pesty 2014-08-25T23:32:00

Great submission!

I really appreciate your level design - I once created puzzle game and 99% of comments was "it's too easy", while difficulty in yours scale up nicely.

Ice Cream Aliens by snowconesolid 2014-08-26T18:46:00

Nice graphics. I've feeling that after some polish it'd be great platform for children :D

Space Kittens Will Not Save The World by Praron 2014-08-25T19:35:00

Wee! I feel like when I was playing Kuru Kuru Kururin on GBA in my old games. Love that comics at the begining, and well... visually it really IS perfect :D

Quadtris by Headmade 2014-08-26T18:59:00

Like FGM stated it seems quite weird, when I have a 3 vertical, then it comes in horizontally.

But I like music and graphics :D

Benn's Adventure by sorceress 2014-09-05T20:27:00

Yay, Stargate! Like idea, and graphics, and animations!

I like some quests. Like giving frog to scare woman who asks for password, but I have feeling that I didn't get all jokes :(

As somebody mentioned before - diving googles do nothing, and music was too short. That loop got me tired after 10 or 15 minutes.

Also that 'diving' effect at top of the ladders was quite frustrating at first.

GeoQuest by caranha 2014-08-26T19:21:00

It runs, and crashes just after Flying Rock logo with enigmatic msg: "Unfortunately, the application GeoQuest stopped working."

It was on android 4.1.2 on Xperia J.

GeoQuest by caranha 2014-08-26T19:55:00

Hm, okay I downloaded desktop jar.

I like the idea, it's simple but playable! Too bad that sometimes it's nearly impossible to outsmart enemies.
