LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

Empty Promises by elitegoliath 2015-04-21T02:21:00

Pros: Clever use of the theme, lies as weapon to convert other lamas to vote for you. Sound design was good, music was pleasant and fitting.
Cons: I kept getting stuck in trees and in the cars, that was frustrating. The experience was VERY repetitive (thus my low "fun" score).
If there was more variety and less of the constant clicking I would have given more stars. Also, I enjoyed the humor.

Whistling Farmer by juaxix 2015-04-21T02:39:00

I really liked the environment and mood, especially the character models. Well done. There was an issue when they would always attack me during the spawn cutscene while I couldn't move. I like the whistling idea, it would be interesting to see it carried further. Like you collect different tunes to whistle (like Ocarina of Time) and they all have different effects on enemies.

Bubble Trubble by Jon Reid 2015-04-23T05:34:00

Good job. Nice idea and implementation of it. The jumping was a little uncomfortable, but everything else worked really well. I'm always a fan of mouth-made sound effects.

Holokitten by vidarn 2015-04-22T20:43:00

Very polished, the graphics, animation, controls, etc. all felt like a finished game. The only thing lacking was content and variety. I would love to see this developed into a full on game, throwing holokittens was fun. Also, nice touch with varying the sounds (like different pitched coin pickups and different meows).

Quiver of Claws by Bensonance 2015-04-22T21:12:00

Nice art style and execution, reminds me of the old Lion King game. The arrows were cool, but I couldn't figure out how to aim the Rhino one. When time slowed in the air during an attack, I felt like an archer boss!

Food Fight! by tylo 2015-04-25T02:04:00

Nice Lemongrab. This is one of my favorite uses of an unconventional weapon: a food fight...among foods...using humans. The lack of sound and game state (health, progress, goal) were its biggest weak points. Given some more time to throw in the necessaries, I can see this being a pretty fun and humorous game. Finally, good work on the models and textures, they are simple, but appropriate.

The Umbrella Man by Toccio 2015-04-21T21:02:00

Very well balanced gameplay (as far as spawn times and speed) and upgrade system! It took me a while to get used to the jumping controls and physics. You took a very simple mechanic and refined the feel and balance. Good job!

Dirty Fork: Unleash the Mayhem by SmilingCat 2015-04-27T03:07:00

Cool idea and implementation of the food fight. I enjoyed the splattering effect some of the foods had, like the tomatoes. The areas got a little tight to navigate through at some points, otherwise it was pretty satisfying to play.

Sepulcher of the Unicorn by Jon Fischer 2015-04-23T03:12:00

Of course, great work on the visuals; they're the most realistic I've seen of any entries so far. Also, the audio fit nicely. I didn't even realize I was solving puzzles until reading comments, I thought I was just playing around in an environment.

Cat loves lazers by lucidlarva 2015-04-22T18:15:00

Some of the most realistic cat sound effects I have heard in a game. Cats with lasers are always a good idea.

KNIGHT by CScribes 2015-04-23T05:44:00

The graphics and animations are really great. I felt like the attack speed was too slow because I kept dying. Nice idea of using a mirror as a shield.

You Can Shave the Baby by chikun Dev Team 2015-04-23T06:36:00

I could see this being a full game. Very fun and funny.

Hush by rojo 2015-04-25T02:18:00

Wow! I loved the idea. The setting in the forest with the animals was a fun and charming way to express the simon-says type music player. The tunes you got to create were catchy too. I could totally see this becoming a really popular mobile game. My only complaint is having to keep moving the mouse between animals and waiting for their turn so I could hear their tone; maybe try some other methods of showing the user what each animal plays? Otherwise, I can't really see anything wrong with it.

Attractor by LegacyCrono 2015-04-22T20:55:00

Nice graphics and animation. I got stuck because my magnet wouldn't move the vertical facing block... Great idea and implementation of the magnet boomerang weapon.

Bloody by Takashy87 2015-04-22T19:05:00

Nice art. The jumping was pretty inconsistent- it took me a few minutes to get over the first block. Clever idea, especially how the blood projection pushed you backward.

Evil Cube: The Game by lxd1 2015-04-22T20:49:00

The art style was clean and consistent, which I liked. The controls were a bit limiting, especially trying to click a bunch just to get the white cube to face where I needed to shoot. It was funny and satisfying to launch the sheep ammo. I'm interested to see where this would go given more time in development.

Zombie Revenge Party by popcorn897 2015-04-23T05:53:00

Great music. Art and animations were fitting and fun. I would get stuck sometimes in the gaps between platforms mid-jump. The variety of weapons was clever and fun. You could probably make the crosshair a little more visible. Overall, a really fun game and impressive balance and variety for a game jam!

Nögg Saber by Shivur 2015-04-25T17:48:00

The artwork and character animations look very nice. I'm not too sure how the sword is unconventional, unless I missed something. As others are saying, the character movement was a bit fast. Good work on generating a new building layout every game!

Gluebie by slowfrog 2015-04-22T20:25:00

Cool, and odd, idea to have bags and glue as a weapon. I was not a fan of changing the controls constantly between moving and the bag types. I was a fan of the strategic/puzzle elements to the level design.

Roombacalypse by lucidsheep 2015-04-27T02:54:00

Very straightforward and smooth control scheme. The graphics were polished as well. Nice touch adding the ability to vacuum up blood. The controls would transition nicely to mobile as well.

Slug Fest by jmborden 2015-04-25T18:08:00

Nice interpretation of the unconventional weapon. The sprites were pretty fun too. Gameplay was a bit unclear, there was a lot of z-fighting going on so I couldn't tell if I actually killed a slug, or it was just fading behind another sprite. The 3D camera manipulation was a nice touch; it made feel like, "woah, I am in a GAME inside a Game"

5 Days with Tiffany by goblin 2015-04-21T19:15:00

The idea of two games going on simultaneously (portal capture on the left, and ball drop on the right) was a cool idea, but I felt like the controls were too slow and unresponsive to really attempt anything skillful with the ball drop. I liked the art, it reminded me of some old anime.

The Legend of the Fisherman by UrbanHelsing 2015-04-22T18:29:00

Nice job getting the complete package: resource gathering, marketplace, combat, multiplayer. Looks like a lot of work went into this. I had some issues with the combat, I felt like the hit-box for my weapon wasn't always matching.

Spell Mates by Backterria 2015-04-21T03:14:00

Great work on the art. Also, the background music and drones were nice and fitting. I also got stuck on the bat after the waterfall, so I don't think I got far enough to discover the unconventional weapon.

Eyes that Fry by Evergreen Games 2015-04-27T03:14:00

Fun idea, firing the laser was satisfying. Once the laser started bouncing around, I noticed some reflection and collision bugs. Like, the laser would pass through a wall and bounce off of nothing and blow me up. Fix the bugs and gameplay would be much more fun. Finally, that laser "bwaaaah" sound was solid!

Bakery Man by Cerberus 2015-04-23T06:00:00

This reminds of The Baker song by The Aquabats. Cool idea, it would be pretty funny to attack enemies with baked goods.

Good Grandpa Simulator by eddynardo 2015-04-22T18:37:00

I liked the progression and how you introduced new actions each level. The kid sound was silly. Maybe you don't have to restart the song every time the level starts, that got a bit annoying. Clever use of the theme and good work on all the models and texturing. Also...jetpack grandpa was AWESOME

Fiero by speakupgames 2015-04-23T06:11:00

The visuals were excellent. The setting and mood of the game was very laid back and relaxing, it sort of reminded me of Harvest Moon or Ocarina of Time.

Fish Slap by LadyEnigma 2015-04-25T18:03:00

As I was playing and became surrounded by enemies, I was reminded of Dynasty Warriors...but with fish. Funny concept and game. It was hard since the enemies would slowly swarm you and totally overtake. Given more development time, I could see more attacks / dodges added and would come back to play some more.

Green and Blue by Jacob Eriksson 2015-04-23T06:27:00

This game was actually pretty fun. The rules and controls were introduced in a very innovative and organic matter. The difficulty curve felt just right. Most of all, I had fun!

Can't touch this! by parity_b1t 2015-04-25T17:56:00

I like the idea, and would love to see a version of this game where you have time to complete your vision of it. For now, it seems too random to feel any agency as a player, but it is good for a quick fun play session to see how long you survive. It's how I used to play Minesweeper when I was a kid, not knowing the rules, just clicking on boxes until I blew up.

Mighty Gravity by hmightypirate 2015-04-23T20:41:00

Interesting concept, sort of like a rotating game of Tetris. It was hard to form a strategy for organizing the sticky aliens because too many landed at once so it usually seemed like a game of random chance. With some more tweaking, I could see this becoming a very addictive game.

Throwtatoes by spudbean 2015-04-27T03:26:00

Pretty funny. Good work spicing up the RPS theme. The AI was fun to work around. On a side note, I remember using that same song for a soundtrack on a demo video I made a few years ago, haha. It fits your agriculture/farming theme better.

Starbinder by HunterAugust 2015-04-22T21:03:00

My only complaint is that I wish there was more feedback as to what my influence was on the population and guidance as to what my goal was. Other than that, awesome work. I really dig the concept. The graphics and sound effects meld together in a very cohesive manner that enhance the overall experience. Please continue to run with this idea and turn it into a full-fledged game.

Don't die, Red! by goglmogl 2015-04-22T19:36:00

The story unfolding as you walked was a nice touch. The controls were kind of hard to get used to: button layout is one orientation, and world space is rotated 45 degrees. I couldn't kill the wolf...after many axes. Nice music and models.

Magic Banana Breakout by dancar 2015-04-22T18:59:00

I liked the idea of having a banana gun that worked as an offensive weapon and a strategic aid. However, the bananas were really hard to jump on. Good work coming up with a clever and fun idea!

Space Potato by AinoraZ 2015-04-22T19:13:00

The idea of differently powered space potatoes sounds cool, but in the game, it was hard to get a chance to use them. I fell like I would pick them up, then they disappeared. Nice music.

Music of the Spheres by goadrich 2015-04-23T20:35:00

I really dig the idea. Even with an understanding of basic music theory, it takes a while to understand what you are doing and how you can change the tones to avoid dissonance. The vibrant planet colors were cool too.

Joe by Chris Olsen 2015-04-21T03:42:00

The artwork and animation style really set the tone. Jumping physics/collision was a little buggy which caused some death. The hug-as-a-weapon choice was done very well.

SquadaBOOM by smokecastles 2015-04-27T03:22:00

I totally dig the abstract gameplay and idea. It was really simple and engaging. Being stuck in one axis of movement was pretty frustrating, I wasn't able to defeat all the enemies because by the time the last dude would finally get close to me, I would use my last bit of life to attack.

Future Gun by bace1000 2015-04-23T06:47:00

It took me a while to realize how I was actually controlling my past self, but once I did...I was like "a ha" and the game got really fun. Cool tunes also. Only complaint is the lack of feedback when you hit collide with an enemy.

PEACEFIGHTER 2084 by Jamezila 2015-04-27T02:47:00

Great work on the graphics and audio. The one-hit KO seemed a bit too easy. Your interpretation of the theme was really funny.

Celebrity Fart by lucien 2015-04-21T03:06:00

Pretty funny implementation of the theme, if you like farts. At first it was a bit easy, but then the upside-down part was a good twist and challenge. I gave low graphics because they were mostly just images that already existed.

I Died In My Office by SebastianLawe 2015-04-21T19:33:00

I didn't leave any scores because I could barely move in game. I assume the controls were WASD and space to jump. But everything was difficult to go where I wanted, and then the airplane would only backup... cool idea though.

Radio Edit by dos 2015-04-25T18:21:00

Great work on the audio(was I imagining it, or did the chords you play with the guitar sync up with the current chord of the song?), and the graphics: even the enemies have varied walk animations so it keeps it fresh. Gameplay was simple yet satisfying and rewarding fun, especially busting out a solo. This is what Guitar Hero should have thought about when they implemented multiplayer battle. You should keep developing and refining this already excellent game.

Teed Off by sanojian 2015-04-25T18:14:00

This one goes in my top 10 list (out of about 40 reviewed so far). Great idea and execution. The whole situation is pretty funny as well. You took a pretty well known game (golf) and put a very different twist on it while still keeping its core mechanics intact. My only complaint is a lack of instructions for how to play; and a description of the different clubs would be useful to us non-golfers. Good graphics and matching audio as well.
