LD24 — Evolution

Soul Jar by farmergnome 2012-09-11T22:52:00

Cool idea and really nice aesthetic. The first time I played I ran to the left for a really long time and the game never seemed to end, and the next time I ran to the right and found the wreckage fairly quickly. I think it should have been possible to reach the wreckage by travelling in either direction (or there should have been something stopping you from going too far too the left).

Dawn of Dimension by jplur 2012-09-07T01:44:00

I loved this, I didn't do much with the editor but it was a lot of fun running around and seeing all the weird crap people built. The physics were kind of bad but I didn't really care

Untitled Tower Game by chuchino 2012-08-29T03:37:00

For people getting stuck on a jump in the slashing stage: do you mean the last jump in the stage, where there is a bat blocking the chain you need to hang on? You have to slash mid-jump to kill the bat. I think the jump actually is impossible if you don't realize you can slash in midair. Actually, every skill except for "jump" and "backflip" can be used in midair, and a lot of levels require this.

Untitled Tower Game by chuchino 2012-09-13T03:15:00

If the jump doesn't work when you're holding an arrow key, that's probably an issue with your keyboard. Lots of keyboards have trouble registering multiple keypresses at the same time. Unfortunately I ran out of time to add key configuration options, but I tried to get around it by designing the skills so you just have to tap the keys instead of holding them down.

Terra Tam: The World Warrior by L 2012-08-28T11:23:00

Loved the art, especially the monster designs.

Lepton's Quest by rustybroomhandle 2012-09-11T23:36:00

The environments are really pretty and the narration was well done. Too bad about the cut content though, it's a bit dull to play in its current state.

Pixelapse by BNeutral 2012-09-16T20:21:00

This is a neat idea and the art is nice. I didn't like the last level, though. The background is distracting, and the amount of enemies combined with the slippery movement and super-high jumps make it really chaotic and frustrating. It felt like it didn't fit in with the rest of the game.

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-09-13T02:15:00

Neat idea, but I found all the games very slow and dull. Trying to figure out how to get to each game was more fun than playing them.

Evolution of a Planet by BubuIIC 2012-08-29T00:59:00

I don't know much about chemistry or geology or any other field that might be helpful for solving the puzzles in this game, so I could only get anywhere by trial and error. I got stuck after getting O2 and Sugar as well.

Platformation by MattDubuc 2012-08-29T03:05:00

The movement is a bit dull -- slow, no horizontal momentum, unusually high non-variable jumping. None of these is necessarily bad on its own, but the combination you have here doesn't seem like it'd lead to interesting platforming. You may want to rework the movement if you update the game. Or, maybe the character's abilities can change whenever the graphics change.

Selectra by lazybraingames 2012-08-30T00:37:00

Stylish and fun, but the difficulty ramps up a bit too slowly for my liking. Watching the mating sequences got tiresome, especially during the boss fight. I enjoyed it though.

Cosmogonie by Spotline 2012-08-30T00:21:00

Cool as heck

EvoRVB by Jimbobblue 2012-08-29T03:05:00

I don't know if not being able to see the enemy's health and power is intentional or you just didn't have time to add it, but it makes the game much more interesting. You have to observe its movements and guess what the right time to attack is, and quickly back away if you find yourself overpowered. That's a really neat idea. But it is not executed very well in this game, since the movement is awkward and the visual feedback when you get hit or hit the enemy is very poor (you have to watch the tiny numbers in the corner carefully).

LD24 X0ut by X-0ut 2012-09-12T02:11:00

This is really stylish and well-paced! The escape sequence was especially tense. There were some places where the framerate dropped to less than 1 frame per second and it almost made me gave up, but eventually I figured out that if I play aggressively I can keep the cube count low enough for it to run at a playable speed. Definitely a standout among the entries I've played.

Neon Spores by jellyislovely 2012-08-29T03:05:00

I think this could be pretty fun with some kind of win condition added and a few tweaks. I like the idea of slowly covering the land with your trees and advancing on the enemy while fighting off invaders who are trying to do the same.

The Best Dinosaur by TomSmizzle 2012-09-12T02:39:00

The art and sound effects were really charming. I think the evolve/revert mechanic adds a lot to the game, I normally wouldn't replay a simple platformer like this after beating it but I ended up playing a bunch of times to go for a perfect run. The final stages of evolution and the "good ending" were pretty great.

EDR by Nightsjester 2012-08-29T03:05:00

Not much to the game in its current state, but the lighting effects impressed me.

The Phoenix Rising by Brassawiking 2012-08-30T00:11:00

Interesting and weird game. The running scene was kind of clunky and awkward, but the driving/shooting scene was fun. I don't think I fully understood the story.

Cubevo by NostraDamon 2012-08-30T00:11:00

I found it frustrating to navigate areas with lots of tightly packed trees, and unfortunately that describes a lot of the game. The mechanic of having to carefully decide which blocks to reveal so you don't run out of gems was cool though.

The Unravelling Of The World By A Man Made Monstrosity by Starmen 2012-08-28T11:14:00

Nice voice acting. A few of the rooms seem like you need to know what to do before you enter to beat them (especially the second last one), but the game is short enough that it doesn't really matter.

Evolution game by tmt_01 2012-08-29T03:05:00

A little too basic -- it gets boring fast.

LimiT by Sakuyan 2012-09-16T19:34:00

Cute game. It's repetitive but I like the sense of progression and the sprites are great.

Fish Selection by Cigi 2012-08-29T03:05:00

Very nice graphics. The ending felt a bit abrupt.

Evolution Stew by vede 2012-09-12T01:13:00

Cute game! Seeing the different traits your final creation could have and trying to find combos was a lot of fun. I was disappointed that chili peppers + dog = chili dog didn't work.

Evolution Redux by [email protected] 2012-08-29T03:05:00

There's not much, but the stuff you got finished is fun. A little basic though. I like the weird slightly-curving movement of the enemies -- more interesting than just having them bounce around.

Chrysalis Choice by RobKat 2012-09-12T00:38:00

The music was pleasant. Initially I didn't see much reason to not just hold down one of the arrow keys, since Darwin was too slow and my choice of path didn't seem to have any meaningful impact on anything. After a while of switching between holding down arrow keys and not pressing anything, I realized the game probably wasn't going to end so I quit.

The Sky in the Room by Porpentine 2012-09-16T18:38:00

This was intense. Gave me chills.

Slimy Things Did Crawl by rhill 2012-09-12T00:21:00

Wonderful concept! This is one of my favourite games of those I've played so far. It took a while to get the hang of it but it seems like there's a lot of depth. I eventually managed to get a team that could get bronze on every level, but some of the golds seem really tough.

Dragoneticist by Gidaio 2012-08-28T23:59:00

Definitely lacks polish, but it's cute and fun. The DNA modification mechanic was cool, even though the interface for it was awkward. I didn't find the secret passage, so I was only able to beat the final boss by standing far away and hitting it with long-range fire breath a ton of times.

Adlus: Mouse Of Truth by magicdweedoo 2012-09-11T22:03:00

This is so good

Survivalism by Walt 2012-09-13T02:29:00

The player movement in this feels nice. Having some measure of progress (e.g. a scoring system or timer, multiple "levels" or "waves") would help, since right now there isn't much reason to play more than once or twice.

Parental Guidance by Maple 2012-08-29T04:39:00

Creepy & cool. I thought the ending was a bit weak though.

Death Cell by fohx 2012-09-16T19:59:00

This is a neat idea, though I don't think the fact that the enemies are Game of Life patterns adds a lot to the game -- most of the time the enemies just disappear or turn into squares. The big swirling explosions were cool, though. And the music was good.

The Silver Spire by charliecarlo 2012-08-29T00:34:00

Pleasant graphics, but a little dull. Choosing which way to evolve was cool, and if there was a bit more to the game than wandering and pressing X I probably would have replayed it to see all the different forms.

RE-evolution: The Legend of Hopper by andreyin 2012-09-12T01:29:00

I think even without being able to move, the shield makes the game a bit too easy. On the other hand, it's rather tough without using the shield, and if it wasn't there then I probably would have given up due to the fact that you have to watch the opening cutscene every time you die. I think leaving the shield out but adding a checkpoint or two would work well.

Epocalypse by wupto 2012-08-28T23:35:00

It would be good if the requirement for the first evolution was a bit lower. That's the most boring phase of the game, where you move slowly and the enemies just walk around randomly instead of attacking you.

It's interesting that evolving as soon as you can doesn't seem to be the best option. On my first play, after evolving three times I quickly got killed by the super-fast red zombies. On my second, I evolved twice to get a better weapon, collected money and resources for a while, then finally clicked the evolute button when I was getting low on health and I was instantly taken to the ending screen.

The World Hates You by mcc 2012-09-07T01:18:00

This is a really cool idea. I don't like the way the character controls at all though; the horizontal movement is very slippery and I couldn't figure out the logic behind the ever-changing jump height. The most interesting level I played was Tank 7, Specimen 507. Tank 7 seemed to have the best levels in general when I played.

Space Ham by FunByJohn 2012-09-11T23:12:00

Pretty fun. I would have liked it if you had multiple lives; it seems like I always die as soon as there's enough clones for the game to start getting intense.

Praepoch by Connor 2012-09-11T22:10:00

Cute game. The graphics were nice and I liked the little story at the end.

I Am A Tree. You Are Not. Ha Ha. by angrygeometry 2012-09-12T03:31:00

Really cool and weird game. I liked the writing a lot.

How evolution really works? by keenblaze 2012-09-16T20:27:00

Cute and funny. I liked the music and the sounds and the bouncy squares.

Evolving Empire by Spaceoff 2012-09-16T19:50:00

It's not very compelling at this point due to the weak enemy AI and the lack of a goal/win condition, but the amount of features and options you managed to include is impressive.

Death Death Evolution by Adhesion 2012-09-16T19:38:00

The music is great and the art is really cute. I found it a bit boring to play, though. Most of the puzzles were easy to figure out, but tedious to execute since you have to kill yourself over and over to get the abilities you need.

Unnatural Selection by saint11 2012-09-07T02:22:00

Cute game. At first I had trouble figuring out strategies for some of the later levels, but eventually I found that just leaving a bunch of minions near your base will work most of the time. I was surprised at how many different types of minion evolutions there were.

Evoland by ncannasse 2012-08-29T22:59:00

Neat idea. The character moves a bit too slowly for my liking, though. I'm not sure if I missed a "run faster" item somewhere.
