Cosmic Chaos by Jiri_One 2023-10-08T14:43:58Z

Very cool little game! Well done. As others have said, the upgrade system is a highlight and a fun use of the theme. The cursor is a bit weird on that screen but just minor stuff that's to be expected.

Not a lot of criticism: The controls are a little weird feeling - I also would have preferred to be able to turn without moving. The sfx leave a bit to be desired (though the music is vibey).

I did better once I realized that killing enemies didn't help my score. Is there any sense in putting in a reward structure for that?

The shadows were a nice way of elevating otherwise very simplistic graphics.

Nuclear Arms 9: Tower of Time by Logicon211 2023-10-08T15:29:31Z

Wow, this one was ambitious! Love that it's a series. Overall, this feels like a real game with a lot of potential. There are a ton of ideas in here - they need polish of course. Movement gets glitchy, UI could be scaled better, and the balance needs some help - none of the powerups really compete with the rapid-fire gun (which maybe you turn into a hold and fire thing so it's not about clicking as fast as possible?). Once I figured out you could kill the bombs I was able to beat the game. That said, all my feedback is just balance/debugging stuff. The art is fun, music is vibey, and overall really solid. I hope you polish this up!

Spacetour Express by RenD 2023-10-08T16:11:39Z

This is a cool game! Really fun and playable. Once I noticed the 'repair' and 'upgrade' buttons I was off to the races. The stowaway mechanic is a great randomized punishment. One of my favorites I've played so far from the jam.

Clearer directions/descriptions of passengers would go a long way to smoothing out the learning curve here, but that's a minor complaint.

209 is my high score!

Limited Parking Space by Johnsensei 2023-10-08T15:10:36Z

Wow you did 2 games Dan? Impressive. Love the lil 8-bit beat. Honestly the opening menu music might be my fav.

Creative take on the theme! Graphics are fun and it's an easy to grasp the concept. Lot you could do with this post-jam - I think the biggest one would be to have other cars parking and leaving to increase the randomization. Pedestrians, etc would be fun.

Great work!

Antigravity Cat Orbs by John Saba 2023-10-08T14:55:51Z

I mean Dan, this soundtrack is purr-fect. What a chill vibe. Spacey and relaxing.

Overall, mood is excellent. Gameplay lacks depth a bit but I don't think it would take much to make it a winner (some antagonist appearing - something to avoid booping).

Very unique concept as well. Nice job!

Orbital Meltdown: Death by Laser Beneath the Naked Sun by UkuleleFury 2023-10-08T14:48:00Z

@dan-burns Thanks! First time implementing sfx in unreal which was a fun learning curve. Took a break on Saturday to lay down a soundtrack and have some fun haha. I appreciate it!

Mole Cart by Skosnowich 2025-04-11T23:29:58Z

Simple, fun little game! The sfx and graphics were highlights for me. I liked how the headlamp shrank when you crouched, which created a nice difficulty mechanic. Notes: The camera sometimes didn't follow smoothly on rapid ups and downs. I wish the speed could keep accelerating - let the player really take risks with that.

Good job!

Snow Ordinary Cave by binroot 2025-04-11T23:36:07Z

I mean I enjoyed 8 bit smoke on water in level 3. I think the graphical representation of the gameplay makes the whole thing a bit hard to follow. I wasn't able to totally figure out how the light functioned, and the levels were over kind of quickly. That said, it was fun and has potential! You definitely created a vibe. Good job!

Slow Decline by Ntimi 2025-04-11T21:41:18Z

Okay, WOW on those graphics. Super cool. I love the animations with the tentacles.

I'm an audio guy so some notes on that: SFX on the vocal in the intro was excellent. Audio feedback on attack and hits would have been really helpful (ideally on every action of course, footsteps would add vibe).

Gameplay itself wasn't the most engaging - there was a bit of clumsiness with jump height and things like that. I didn't totally understand how attacking effected movement. Not trying to be too critical - I know how it is with the limited time. There's a glitch where enemies started totally white (until hit) after a few levels.

Great job!

Beneath the lies by bashem 2025-04-11T23:09:01Z

This is a lot of fun - love the sfx, graphics, and all-around vibes. Notes: Wish you'd implement collisions so you don't just walk over everything. Some of the upgrades are really downgrades - side guns just end up making it hard not to shoot aliens. Ammo is too available to matter.

Super funny concept and a really great game!

DownThread by eyedromeda 2025-04-11T22:20:38Z

Loved the enemy leg animation! That's super cool. That and the sfx really gave the game a polished feeling. It's a simple concept but still felt like a unique take on the theme. I think you're missing a bit of challenge/purpose - you end up just descending and spamming fire. I wonder if adding enemies that spawn from above would increase the sense of urgency? Everything you had time to implement is very well-executed. I'd be excited to see what this game would look like if you kept developing it.

Dark Depths by buckmeister 2025-04-11T23:50:32Z

This is a fun, atmospheric game. I think it has a lot of potential. The controls got a little glitchy for me, which hampered my ability to get too deep into the game. I liked the direction it was going though. I think the background music could have built a little more - maybe some slow, ambient piano to give a melody? I'd love to play this again after some polish. Great job!

Stealing the Captain's Family Jewels by Str8griz 2025-04-11T21:28:58Z

Super solid game! And hey, a fully playable, self-contained game is an accomplishment in and of itself. It's vibey and fits the theme well. It's challenging but not too challenging. Couple of notes: Loved that going down fast cost O2. The flashlight lure interaction is a great idea. The flashlight isn't useful enough, so I just left it off. The 'refilling' task is a little tedious, especially since enemies can follow you in there. I usually ended up dying and respawning because I'd get cornered by a ghost. I'm not sure it's even possible to go up fast enough to get the bends. Cutscene intro was cool. Your audio levels could use a little balancing - I'd look into compression and eq for your narration, so you can bring the music up under it.

Just some ideas! Great job on this.

Nightmare Descent by DrSmey 2025-04-11T22:50:18Z

This is a great game. Very interesting and unique, and one of the most fun and playable I've seen from the jam so far. Graphics are cool and you did a great job balancing the cards and coming up with reward/punishments for things. Could use some balance polish with the enemies (I think it could be harder) and some more exciting and dynamic music. The biggest bug I ran into was the hand size - might be good to limit that anyways?

Fantastic work - you should be proud of this one.

View in the Depth by noagard 2025-04-11T22:58:04Z

Cool take on the theme - I enjoyed the Futurama easter egg. Graphics were nice (full screen in the browser cuts off part of the game fyi). Simple but useable graphics, nice musical ambience. I think it might be lacking a bit of... game? for lack of a better word. Felt like something you'd interact with in a larger game, like a more advanced version of hacking in Fallout or lock picking in Elder Scrolls. But well-executed!

Go to sleep... by eeldam 2025-04-12T00:07:14Z

Great idea! This is such a unique approach to the theme, and a great idea for a game. Sfx are effective, and gameplay is easy to understand. My biggest gripe is balance - some sentences are a clear and easy switch of the first two words ('Did I' becoming 'I did'), while others are impossible. You also miss some messages, though that seems inevitable. I'd love a way to swap out words - you wind up with a lot of unusable jumbles. I'd love some background music!

Overall though, this is a strong submission. You took it in an unexpected direction and that's worth a lot.

You Are the End by AgrMayank 2025-04-11T21:13:58Z

Very cool concept and from the description, it sounds like you were able to implement a lot of cool ideas. Unfortunately, I think there's something bugged near the beginning. Some enemies end up running past the player units, and others wind up sitting there clashing with no health change. Would love to see the rest of what you built! Music is vibey - the game could use a bit more audio feedback during gameplay. Graphics remind me of Kingdom Two Crowns. Very polished look.

A bit difficult to rate since I couldn't play very much but what I did play seemed intriguing!

Lifted by andriybyelikov 2025-04-11T23:21:44Z

This is interesting and unique! The art and music together creates a nice ambience. I wish you could skip text - audio feedback with text interaction would be nice too, especially in such a text-driven game. It needs a bit more complexity - the walking back and forth gets tedious, and I'd love to enter buildings, jump to find people in different places, etc.

Nice job!

Onkalo by Chronicpain 2025-04-12T00:46:50Z

Wow, cool game. The art is crazy cool, and the writing matches the tone nicely. I agree with Sam above that I'd like to have felt more agency in the game - I don't know if my choices really mattered (except cat -> coin etc). The combat system is really luck based, so that didn't feel super interactive either.

That said, this is a spectacular showing, especially for a game jam. I hope you're all proud of what you've made.

DEEP INTO THE ROOTS by TomasTanhgor 2025-04-12T00:25:49Z

Interesting concept - I like the click and draw functionality. Obviously it's missing some elements. The biggest upgrade I'd like to see is a more interesting root growing graphic, since it's such an integral part of the game. I like the writing and tone of the game.

♂Deep♂Dark♂Fantasies♂ by mr_mesmer 2025-04-11T23:58:19Z

I dunno - might not be my type of humor. Not sure about "gay" and "fucking slaves" as sound fx. Don't understand the connection to the theme - depths of depravity? Just gave me the ick

MESSIER 104 CBH by kuboi 2025-04-11T23:13:57Z

Fun little game! I liked the sfx and overall feel. I can see where you might expand on this.

Beneath the Ground by drFoxxx 2025-04-11T22:08:51Z

As others have mentioned, I struggled to understand the concept. That said, it seems like a really creative and unique approach to the theme - congrats on that. Would have loved some audio (background music, servo sound when you move coordinates, button feedback). Graphics were decent and on-theme. I'd love to see a more fleshed out tutorial.

Goomba Simulator 2025 by LandoSystems 2025-10-12T19:25:55Z

Love what you did with altering the super mario music. Seems like a decent amount of time and effort must have gone into that, and it paid off. The lore was a bit dense - almost as much reading as gameplay. Might have been better to trim that down or spread it out? And the visuals of the level design were a bit hard to follow. It was a guessing game to know which objects were solid. Those critiques aside, it's a good gameplay concept, and satisfying to take on other powers. You got a lot done! Congrats and great job.

Go Fetch by Kyle Farwell 2025-10-12T23:31:44Z

So, game aside, the credits theme song is an absolute banger. I mean generally, the music was great. Loved the 4th wall breaks. Was the gameplay actually fun? That is debatable. But the vibe and the humor generally made up for it. Great job!

Trashure King Legend by JustusPan 2025-10-12T23:05:13Z

Yeah, this is fun. I played until I beat it, and clicked some buttons a lot. Some notes: Shame that the music ends. Having a continuous background score (maybe even some variety for quests and things) would do a lot to enhance the mood. Too much clicking. Usually with a game like this you get to the point where your original means of gathering resources get eclipsed by new ones (which feels satisfying). I didn't enjoy clicking hundreds of times - you needed a bulk sell unlock, or some sort of automated system. That said, you've got the framework for a great game here. Just needs some balancing and tweaking. Great job putting this together; I thoroughly enjoyed it.

If I Ran the (Alien) Zoo by UkuleleFury 2025-10-09T21:58:40Z

@peachy thank you! If you were my neighbor you'd have heard the sound of my screaming bloody murder into my mic for a few hours Saturday morning haha

Blood and Bounty by Torami 2025-10-09T21:42:57Z

I love a turn-based RPG - great concept. The level build animation is fun, so is the overall vibe.

As an audio guy, I really appreciate the clearly DIY nature of your score. You've got some technical issues with clipping/mix but I think it's so cool that you decided to record the sounds yourself and build a western soundtrack, rather than just relying on pre-made music.

Great job!

Mr. Fungi by Kupnu4 2025-10-09T21:30:09Z

Great job. Everything in the game works together to create a vibe. Revealing certain mushrooms in hidden portions of the tech tree does limit gameplay strategy a bit, and would have loved some sort of antagonist something to work against. But all things are possible with more time, right? haha

I do audio primarily - generally thought the SFX & music did their job well. Different sounds for different mushrooms could have been fun, also some occasional dog noises for your companion.

Nice game!

Witch Solar by alpacalypse 2025-10-09T23:09:07Z

It's interesting for the thing you're collecting to also be the thing that damages you. That said, game got a lot easier when I realized you could move. Very simple, but made for a satisfying little chunk! I think some simple things like movement inertia, targets of escalating value, and alternative enemies (it's essentially a physics game; maybe they lob glowing blobs at you that you have to bounce into a receiver) could do a lot to enhance the gameplay. Good job!

Empty Voice by Asieke 2025-10-12T03:48:11Z

It's a pretty game, and the visual world does a lot to give a cohesive sense of vibe. The music is generally nice and chill. The lack of feedback, either audio or visual, makes things a bit less immersive. It's hard to tell how far your hits reach, and you wind up taking sudden damage without realizing it. Inertia or knock-back, and some sfx around a hit would do a lot to bring the feel of the game together.

That said, the game has a distinct aesthetic feel to it that's pretty compelling. Good job!

Collect-o-maniac by Surfa 2025-10-09T22:10:59Z

I don't know what kind of dystopian monstrosity of a game I just experienced but I did play the entire thing. Don't really know how to give feedback on that... maybe that means it was perfect? The constant conga drum in the background was a bit grating, but again, was that part of the art? Well done boys, you've made me question reality.

Blossom Fox by Patatje 2025-10-12T03:23:09Z

This is a pretty fun game, especially once I got used to the controls. Maybe felt maybe a bit imbalanced - the damage dealt by a single misstep with a bee seemed a bit insurmountable. Still, it was very playable, and it kept me playing through a few rounds. Simple and satisfying!

Spyder by MartianMangka 2025-10-09T23:01:25Z

It's an interesting idea - I think in execution it feels like there's a lot of blind luck involved. Not really sure what the strategy is. That said, I think with some tweaking/balancing it could come together into something fun. I like the close-up spider graphic in the corner - looks like a rad dude.

Monsters in Jars by T4RAN 2025-10-09T21:56:58Z

Cool game! Reminds me of one I played on the last jam - I wonder if you guys are the same team. Very nice graphics, and solid gameplay. Took me a minute to fully understand, but it was fun.

I think upgrading your audio could do a lot for the feel; some variation in the sounds (maybe cheers for a certain type of hit, maybe a score that's more than a drone pad - I think that background sound weighs it down a bit). Of course I know time is always the limited factor. Overall, great job!

Beelines by raysplaceinspace 2025-10-09T22:34:07Z

Interesting game. Simple yet surprisingly challenging. I'd have loved some audio feedback on pickups, but I like the soundtrack - nice and vibey, and well-mixed. lovely warm pads and very chill kick! Does a lot to set the tone of the game well done!

Wishdom Teeth Pact by Ali Enver Sevgi 2025-10-09T22:26:27Z

Great art. Great concept. Actual gameplay? It felt like essentially a memory game - the puzzles didn't really require any lateral thinking, just direction following. So, maybe left a little to be desired on that front. SFX did a good job of giving a sense of tactile response; music loop got a little old but not too bad. Good job!
