The embed doesn't fit the whole game window :/, but I played it via the itch link.

Interesting take, but not sure I understand the objective? Is there one, other than just survive? Jumped through a few systems but once I started losing fighters I just got into a death spiral where I couldn't produce enough fighters to actually survive a fight with incoming fighters, and so I would just have stuff picked off every jump.

Really nice art, gives me a homeworld vibe.

erlioniel 2022-10-03 23:07

@mcovert ye, we didn't manage to make it working normally + tbh it's really small one

Regarding dead cycle - try another round and be slightly more conservative during first few rooms. The goal is to kill all three waves of enemies. There should be more, but we were running out of time

rubentipparach 2022-10-03 23:24

Very cool looking game, polished, difficulty is pretty tough. Overall really love the quality of this tiny game!

djd123456 2022-10-03 23:41

Cool Game!

ayced 2022-10-04 09:43

I love space games and this one reminds me of homeworld a bit with how the miners / fighters dock in the parent ship.

Feels polished and while the gameplay is simple it kept me engaged until the end.

angrybeard 2022-10-04 09:47

unique concept and very viby execution of the theme!

thesnide 2022-10-04 09:47

One word : Awesome!

Feels like Homeworld ported to a GameBoy Advance.

urggann 2022-10-04 09:52

I like your game! Gaphics an d sounds are so nice ! The concept fit perfectly with the theme. i didn't play enought to see more lvlup for your ship... I need canons ;) thank you for this amazing game.

teddyreid 2022-10-04 09:54

It's like if the Homeworld devs made a game based on the Lost Fleet novels. Liked it.

Aesthetically it's absolutely amazing. Really consistent, beautiful art across the whole thing, the music (sounds like Mass Effect!) is awesome.

I can't tell if it's actually tough or if I am just bad at it, but I keep death spiralling and running out of resources :D

yogurtthehorse 2022-10-04 12:18

Whoa!

Very satisfying game. Wish there were more types of units and mb it needs a bit of balancing, but as for jam entry it's super cool

eugenik 2022-10-04 14:02

Really cool artworks and great humor! Love it!.

mantsje 2022-10-04 17:04

Nice game! Very polished and steady throughout. Well done!

furano 2022-10-04 17:21

The mood in this game is top notch ! You really managed to hit that space opera vibe with your graphics !

I however felt like the gameplay was not enough involving : I kinda got bored waiting for my miner to colelct that space dust... Maybe havinga manned turret to keep us entertain whiel waiting or something like that could be nice !

dileriuml 2022-10-04 17:40

Nice game, thank you for effort. Good job overall!

sirdorius 2022-10-04 18:18

Simple but very cool idea! Loved the Homeworld like graphics. Not sure if it's a bug but sometimes when you click on something that costs the same amount of resources that you have you will not be able to buy it

orendil 2022-10-04 20:51

Really fun game with great visuals and catchy music which builds a good mood. I really like how the 10 second theme is embedded firmly in the gameplay and the core loop of jumping between systems, building your fleet and timing how long you stay at a sector is satisfying. Very stable as well. Great job!

I wish it had some factor to make it more re-playable as I'd love to play this more (different levels / modifiers to make playing it again a different experience).

sleepymenace 2022-10-04 21:07

Really cool game, with a very polished aesthetic. It's pretty hard, but I enjoyed it a lot!

13x666 2022-10-05 11:14

Awesome game loop, very intuitive and catchy. It has this hard to describe quality that makes you feel like you're learning some kind of useful skill while you're playing, you feel like the game is big and you're gonna need to get really good at it if you're serious about playing, even though it's very simple and straightforward. Maybe it's due to incredible levels of polish (I'm getting strong Startopia vibes) — graphics, audio, UI, everything is 5/5.

What this game needs in my opinion is some clear visualization of goals and progress. When I got to about 15 miners and 15 fighters, I was feeling that I topped out because my miners would pretty much strip a system of all its resources in one wave while my fighters effortlessly destroyed the first wave of enemies, and then I would just spend all my profit on jump preparation. I was convinced this was it. But then I just decided to see what would happen if I kept fighting instead of fleeing, and I suddenly won.

It would be great to at least see how many jumps you've made. Maybe have the ability to upgrade my ships, heal the mothership, gather resources for some kind of super-weapon and then progressively build it and defend it from intruders and worry about having to leave the whole thing behind and start over, the concept is so flexible and so easily extended with this kinds of features. I would really love to see a post-jam version or even a full game with this mechanic and aesthetic.

Thanks for an awesome entry!

elysiagriffin 2022-10-05 13:22

So nice! I really enjoy this game setting and visual, seem to great job done Same I can say to gameplay mechanics. Amazing

erlioniel 2022-10-05 19:41

@sleepymenace @dileriuml @mantsje @yogurtthehorse @thesnide @angrybeard @ayced @djd123456 thank you guys!!!

@rubentipparach thanks! It's not _that_ bad, but probably we just know the balance and got used to it

@furano @urggann @Orendil Ye, cannons and other level-ups are something which we though initially to add, but time was the main constraint for us, didn't manage :sob:

@teddyreid try to farm a first few jumps more and just evade contact with enemy. It will ease up the gameplay

@eugenik didn't get about humor, but okay

@sirdorius ye, small issue happened, sorry for that :sob: Hope it didn't affect the experience a lot

erlioniel 2022-10-05 19:49

@elysiagriffin thanks for playing! Actually when you are jamming it's quite hard to get a opinion and playtest out of the context. All your struggle with the game makes so much sense to me tbh! It's really cool to hear out from you. Thanks for playing again!

erlioniel 2022-10-05 19:57

@13x666 thank for such kind words dude! It's quite a useful point - we yet again forget to point out the end goal and just left a small text inside the starting tutorial window. You right - we need to be more clear with the end goal, since a lot of games just don't have any. There is some similarity between our entries, right?

Regarding the progression etc - it's something which is absolutely reasonable the next thing, more ship types, more room types, some mothership upgrades. But to be honest we were rushing so badly that we sacrificed additional features in favor of getting something more or less complete.

Fun fact btw that the game didn't have any UI a few hours before the end  It was the last thing done.

Anyway nice to hear you liked it and hope you enjoyed your time in it. And again thank you for such a nice and warm feedback!

13x666 2022-10-06 06:18

@erlioniel Oh, I didn’t mean in any way that what was done was “insufficient” — you’re absolutely right, our entry has a very similar problem with unclear goals and stuff :D Beyond the first paragraph my whole comment was all a fantasy about a potential product your game could grow into :)

And wow, the UI looks even more impressive now that I know the fun fact, hahah

adecon 2022-10-06 12:14

Games of this quality are rare for this event. I really liked the graphics, realistic gameplay and music! Хлопці - молодц :v: Україна понад усе!

erlioniel 2022-10-06 18:42

@adecon thank you dude! 💙💛

vladlawrence 2022-10-06 19:49

That was really medative and enjoyable! Great work and really nice idea, would love to have this one on a smartphone;) At first it was a bit awkward to get used to a gameplay, but till the time i`v realised what should i do, my health was just at 30 points!!! but i still managed to survive additional 10 jumps, till the system with not enought mining asteroids((( but it was really fun, and my next atempts were much better)

The game just has it`s own style) And mood thankfully to the ambient.

PS It was so painfull to missclick and left your guys behind(( wish there was defence system on a ship itself

PPS Слава Україні хлопці) Дійсно крута гра!

noef 2022-10-07 18:32

The Jump animation is amazing, music also generates a great mood

landosystems 2022-10-07 18:40

I really like this game, strategizing about how to prioritize mining versus defense and trying to time the jump are good mechanics and good fit for the theme. One thing that I think could be improved is visual responsiveness to player input. It was really unclear whether my button presses were doing anything. Adding some sort of highly visible indicator when a player presses a button showing if it was 'accepted' or not (ie. yes it launched a ship or no you don't have more ships to launch, and yes it's now prepping for launch) also a more visible indication that the ship is ready for launch and a button press will launch it would be great. All that said, the visuals are great, the audio is moody and fits the game really well. All in all, great work!

\* Replaying now I may have misinterpreted the controls and that it's more automatic than I thought. I do think that this could be a good foundation for a full game though, with more interactions and maybe some mechanics borrowed from something like FTL. Again, really great work!

7331 2022-10-07 18:40

Took me a while to understand the game mechanics, but once I did it was a fun game. Great to see how those simple pieces are connected to create an awesome, cohesive and moody game! The jump animation was super nice.

tan-tan 2022-10-07 18:42

Oooh as soon as I understood the mechanics, I had lots of fun! All the elements fit together seamlessly and made me want to stay there until I finally attained victory :D It's also kinda cute how the miners swarm out and hurry back with materials to give to you. I would have appreciated a little tutorial, because I'm apparently not good with understanding the description of how to play xD but it worked out! Well done (:

trigrab 2022-10-07 18:47

Awesome game. I was too greedy and could not get to victory because of the increased jump costs. Very well balanced for such a short development time. I had a lot of fun. Keep up the good work :)

weine 2022-10-07 19:30

Very relaxed space battles going on here. I liked the style and you made it work even through warp space!

nakami 2022-10-07 19:50

Very impresive entry I was instantly grasped by the game but I directly understanded that fighter were useless at first so I restart multiple time to maximize the number of ore I got before the first jump ignoning my life, then I build 20+ miners and only then I start building fighters ^^

ironcutter 2022-10-08 13:46

You've got by far the best review I've made so far, it's just great guys! I didn't want to stop playing!

erlioniel 2022-10-09 08:29

@mcovert @noef @7331 @tan-tan @trigrab @weine @nakami @ironcutter Thank you guys for all the feedback. We definitely should consider to make some post-jam expanded version to release standalone.

erlioniel 2022-10-09 08:31

@landosystems thank you dude! Now when you mention it I fully agree with you, we lost some part of important user feedback, that might indicate what actually happened. As well as some other minor issues here and there. But glad that you did understand the idea in the end and enjoyed the game!

nash 2022-10-09 11:46

The game as a very smooth and almost relaxing loop. The art style is also very cohesive and polished.

It is a bit hard to follow what is going on the screen. Most of my ships were getting destroyed by pirate ships but it is hard to gauge how quickly that will happen. The solution is obviously buy more fighters but even then I was loosing ships and I felt I had no control over it. The player could use some options to react when inside systems.

But overall, a solid jam game with gorgeus art and music. Great work!

bytekeeper 2022-10-09 14:37

Amazing. Graphics are cool, music builds tension without distracting. First time playing was a bit rough as neither 1, 2 nor space does anything. Please add to the description that 1 and 2 only work while jumping and space only works if you have enough resources to jump. Also, clicking with the mouse gives a feedback, pressing 1 and 2 does not really.

Gameplay: I liked it very much. It's very easy to learn, yet finding the right balance of fighters, miners and timing is pretty hard. Especially since things get tougher quite soon. Leaving behind miners by jumping too soon adds to the thrill.

A bug I noticed: Sometimes miners won't leave the, let's call it "mother ship". In that case the game is lost as no jump can be acquired. I played it quite often, so it even happened in the very first level.

goddoesplaydice 2022-10-09 17:12

Quite polished and complete game!

Оч круто, навалить контента и можно релизить :)

matt-ravenhall 2022-10-09 17:15

This game looks and sounds really awesome, but I fairly quickly hit a repetitive loop. It would be great if there was an FTL style goal, perhaps with branching paths, to provide some progression across jumps.

Really great jam game!

kerdelos 2022-10-09 22:15

I love the battlestar galactica vibe here ! It's a really interesting entry. I love the music ! It's a bit easy to win the game once you get how it works but I'm not complaining. Well done !

animawish 2022-10-10 07:42

Gorgeous game! Kept a small scope that's on theme, with a great atmosphere and a neat press-your-luck concept. Great job!

mypalmike 2022-10-10 08:00

It took a while to understand the game - I almost gave up. But I'm glad I stuck to it - it's a fun little jam game with gorgeous graphics and wonderful sound.

alexsolonnikovp4 2022-10-10 09:21

I really liked the game, the style is very unusual, it's interesting to try to make the same style in unity at home. It's a pity that the game seemed difficult to me :( And so, I liked everything else :)

simba 2022-10-10 14:19

Managed to beat it on my second try- what a great twist on traditional tower defenses! I really enjoyed playing it! The homeworld-esque graphics are top notch, the music is very chill. Definitly want to callout that transition VFX, very well done especially for a jam!

I think with some added unit varity and different enemy types this could really but a fun full game. I want to play more!

perrin 2022-10-10 14:28

Thought this was fantastic, short simple and sweet with a ton of mood. Felt like bite-sized Homeworld. One of those LD games i'd love to see developed more.

eyedromeda 2022-10-10 17:18

The atmosphere is great, the graphics are polished and the music is bangin'!

The only part where the game fell flat a little was the gameplay loop, which I distilled down to letting the miners do one round of mining, letting the fighters beat the first batch of enemies, preparing for jump, waiting for everyone to get back in, jumping and buying more miners.

The fact that fighter ships didn't accumulate damage between jumps meant that there was never any need to buy more as long as I gtfo'd before the second wave of enemies, and the lack of random variables in enemy spawns meant that the gameplay became repetitive until I decided to buy a bunch of fighters and managed to beat the game.

While this aspect makes it a game I wouldn't complete more than once, everything else about the game works well, and putting in more variety, not just in enemies or their spawns, could make it more replayable.

Preparing for a jump wasn't explained quite well enough, unless I missed that info, so for the first few attempts I kept leaving all of my ships behind, though I got the hang of it eventually. Obvious in hindsight, but you know, assume the player is stupid and all that.

Overall I really enjoyed the game though, and the assets, sounds and polish were definitely beyond the usual game jam grade. Good job!

ping78 2022-10-11 00:05

Excellent game. There's nothing else that needs to be said, other than "Well done" of course.

ehon 2022-10-11 18:56

Yoo, a space game :D I checked some comments and I don't think I've anything else to add feedback-wise, besides that I think this game has a potential of being developed further if your team is willing to. Would be nice to see it on larger scale. Good work!

langotriel 2022-10-11 23:36

This is a well thought out game and I really liked it! Big respect for keeping the scope tight and the execution solid.

The audio-visual experience was a treat, too!

enderswype 2022-10-12 14:10

interesting idea, would've been nice to push it a little further, it gets repetitve quite fast, but the animation and graphics look sickc !!

erlioniel 2022-10-13 19:22

@goddoesplaydice @matt-ravenhall @kerdelos @animawish @mypalmike @alexsolonnikovp4 @simba @perrin @ping78 @ehon @langotriel @enderswype

Thank you guys! That's pretty kind words from all of you and we glad you've enjoyed this small creation. We are thinking right now about a full-size game based on the prototype, but that's a long shot and if you want to follow us - please check out tweeter or you can follow even on LD. I think it's not the last time we are participating.

erlioniel 2022-10-13 19:28

@nash hi dude, thank you for the feedback and I really agree with you. We might do better visibility and feedback for the player what actually happened on the screen. But we run out of time to be honest. Glad you've liked it anyway!

@bytekeeper thanks for reporting, there are some issues (we are aware about them), but we decided that it's not blocking to play the game, so we didn't change the game after jam. We don't think it's actually fair to the event. Hope they didn't ruin your experience and you had quite a fun time playing our creation.

@eyedromeda hi dude, you are right that we have to work with gameplay cycle to make it slightly more complex, but in scope of jam it was hard to make it more complex and balance everything. Regarding fighters & accumulated damage - that's actually was the change we did, because we thought that player might not read, that the fighter is damaged already and it will be pretty annoying that some fighter are dying fast. Other feedback makes sense as well, but it's easy to agree now, in the moment we were sorting issues by priority due to time cap. Anyway hope you've enjoyed it!

sephowepho 2022-10-17 20:39

Really amazing submission! I went into it with the wrong idea on how to play (I stockpiled miners, not knowing I needed an almost equal number of fighters to survive long enough), but after figuring out what I needed to do, it was actually *super* easy... This isn't a complaint, but I survived for about 10-15 rounds the first time, then I beat it my second time in about 4 or 5 ()! You really nailed the asthetic for the game, it looks fantastic; but I love the mothership the most, I'd say!

Superb entry, keep it up; looked great, played great, sounded great!

jonathang 2022-10-17 21:14

The graphics look lovely, and they remind me very much of Homeworld! It's interesting how compelling it is to watch your ships carry out their tasks, even though there isn't actually that much player input during most of the game. Trying to balance the resources is fun though, and I did manage to get victory eventually (after reading some of the comments to find out how)

mateusboga 2022-10-17 23:02

Only downside of this game is that there isn't more of it. I just wanted to keep playing this on and on. So simple and so effective! Great job on this!

amarokczukay 2022-10-17 23:08

graphics are great (this camera!!!) and the game is kinda simple but really nice to play! when i understood i have left some units in space before jumping i felt bad for them…

this game is already polished, but with some improvements, it can be absolutely awesome!

sparklingsushi 2022-10-19 20:50

Woah, that was really enjoyable and i had fun time playing your game :) Loved the pixel art and simple music. Good job and congrats! nn7guardian.png

zevsehg 2022-10-20 11:19

Nice!

snowdrama 2022-10-21 14:08

Victory! Fun game once I got what was going on, would love to see more stuff but definitely understand it's a game jam haha
