foulkes-art 2022-10-03 23:54

Really love the art style and game concept as a whole. Great job!

penguinmunch 2022-10-04 00:47

This is such a good game! It was a very nostalgic feeling game too.

amac 2022-10-04 00:53

I really liked the art and sound design. I wasn't as big of a fan of the core loop since after a while it felt like it was impossible to fix everything in time. Still a great game though!!

jamdong15 2022-10-04 02:48

@foulkes-art Thank you so much! :)

jamdong15 2022-10-04 02:49

@penguinmunch I'm so glad to hear that; it did remind me a little bit of Maplestory or the older pixel graphic games in general. Thank you for playing!

jamdong15 2022-10-04 02:50

@amac Thank you! Issues with difficulty is one of the most consistent piece of feedback we're getting; definitely space for improvement. We were so worried about the game being too easy that we went pretty ham, LOL. Regardless, thank you so much for playing!

hammerfrenzy 2022-10-04 02:55

I was able to make it through to the end, although I did have to adjust my hands to the "MASH POSITION" haha. It was getting quite hectic.

I probably had the most difficulty moving between the floors - maybe a ladder or stairs could be useful? (unless you intended it to be difficult).

Good job!

morgie 2022-10-04 03:53

@hammerfrenzy thanks for playing and the feedback! <3

jamdong15 2022-10-04 03:53

@hammerfrenzy Thank you!! We think adding in the ability to jump down from bases would make the game feel more fluid. Glad you made it to the end, haha. :)

jag 2022-10-04 04:20

Really funny game! I think its hilarious that you "fix" everything with your hammer haha. I love the artwork. Great job!

jamdong15 2022-10-04 04:25

@jag Thank you!! Glad you liked it. :)

morgie 2022-10-04 04:25

@jag Thanks!! :D I mean isn't that how you fix things usually??

pusheeneiro 2022-10-05 11:02

Screenshot_112.png Nice art and gameplay, little, but joyful game. Although for me, the sound was a bit too creaky.

jamdong15 2022-10-05 16:15

@pusheeneiro Glad you enjoyed! :) And that's a good point about the SFX; the quality of the SFX were pretty important to us since, in our game, they play on repeat. Some sounds could definitely be improved!

spacecadet 2022-10-05 16:29

Fun little game. It was pretty easy most of the time so the last part where everything broke at the same time felt a bit unfair. Overall a nice entry. Makes perfect sense to fix a cake with a hammer :D

jamdong15 2022-10-05 16:33

@spacecadet Thank you so much for your feedback! Adjusting the difficulty is something that we wish we had more time to do for sure. And exactly; how else would you fix a haunted cake?! Haha

oakhardt 2022-10-05 18:19

I liked it! Felt pretty polished. Loved the art. Sound effects and visual cues were just right. On some games I don't know what is happening or what I'm supposed to do. Not on this one. The haunted cake was quite funny :D Feels like everbody did their job just right.

Hope you had fun!

robowarrior1982 2022-10-05 18:21

The gameplay loop is interesting, the ambiant is very well, cute for the graphics and creepy for the sound. The house can be bigger with more thing to fix and imrove the gameplay too. It's a good gamejam game, easy to understand and it work fine. Good job to the team !

jamdong15 2022-10-05 18:36

@oakhardt Wow, thank you so much! This means a lot. :) I'm glad you enjoyed.

jamdong15 2022-10-05 18:37

@robowarrior1982 I agree, making the house bigger would've been awesome. Thank you so much for the feedback!

gwenckatz 2022-10-05 19:57

I like the concept here, but I found it hard to play--the controls and especially the jump didn't feel super smooth and I found that made it hard to move around. I like the gameplay loop, though.

jamdong15 2022-10-05 20:15

@gwenckatz Ah, yes, we've had some problems with the jump ourselves. We figured out later that it's a latency problem. I'm glad you enjoyed the concept & gameplay loop!

benk 2022-10-06 05:35

Nice job, loved the art and the core game loop was fun and satisfying, having to balance the repairing and the salt thing. The humour was great too. The lonely-haunted-house vibe really comes through. Some hopefully helpful feedback: (1) I liked the sound design a lot HOWEVER the TV sound was giving me a headache so I needed to turn the volume waaaaaay down :-( it was loud and something about the waveform messed with my brain. Also some more subtle ambients would make this next level (low-volume creaking, footsteps, whatever - the clock was great though). (2) It did get really hard around 30 seconds to go? I didn't finish and the game was too long to go back and try several times. Maybe a shorter loop? (3) The death loop was opaque to me, maybe you can make that more obvious.

majadroid 2022-10-06 05:51

You made a charming little game. Two things I didn't like: 1. The lack of music. A little bit creepy music could have improved the mood immens. 2. The ending is a little bit unfair - just breaking so much that you can't fix it isn't the best way, to put an ending to the game. Maybe reaching the "morning" would have been a nicer ending.

little-doctor-games 2022-10-06 05:55

Hey! Thanks so much for stopping by the stream to show us Home R.I.P.airs! Here's a video I cut together which includes your game: https://youtu.be/cbu3KZnDqik

gonzalol 2022-10-06 06:41

It's a fun concept, simple but effective and well done. Some thoughts: - I love how the sounds show the things that need repair - It's a little bit repetitive and too easy, but that's ok for a Jam game

projectcolorball 2022-10-06 07:16

such a interesting game!(rate back plz!)asda.JPG

defilerzero 2022-10-06 19:31

A fun game with a very cute aesthetic. Thought it was hold the 'fix button' to repair, but then realized I could spam the keys.

shreemp 2022-10-07 04:38

girl better make that ghost pay rent if it wants to live here so badly lmao, it's nice and cute game

jamdong15 2022-10-07 04:39

@shreemp AHAHAHA u right ;-)

rob6566 2022-10-07 04:45

Loved the feel - great art / sound. I liked the different sounds for different repairs.

After being pretty easy for most of the game, it got extremely hard in the last 20 sec. I lost then every time.

I put salt in the cake :smirk:.

Lovely game :). Home repairs have never been so fun!

jamdong15 2022-10-07 05:23

@robowarrior1982 Thank you!! Yes, the difficulty scales pretty rapidly towards the end; my developer and I are talking about ways we could potentially make it more fair :)

Salt in cake?? Delicious ;) Thank you for rating!!

matt-ravenhall 2022-10-07 06:36

Nice idea, suitably spooky - well done!

jamdong15 2022-10-07 08:03

@matt-ravenhall Thank you! :)

shrillwhip 2022-10-07 09:40

I quite liked this. First off, the artstyle is wonderful. The gameplay is simple, but engaging enough to keep you on you toes. The lack of music is a minus. Understandably, maybe you didn't have time to write a song (or access to composers), but even using a royalte free track would have made a lot of difference in terms of mood.

Overall, really nice game. I hope you keep making them!

alexyam 2022-10-07 13:54

Very decent graphic. I like the idea of putting salt in front of the door.

jamdong15 2022-10-07 17:46

@shrillwhip Wow, thank you so much! Agreed, we really wish we could've gotten some music in here. We appreciate your feedback and kind words! :)

jamdong15 2022-10-07 17:47

@alexyam Thank you so much! :)

dzejpi 2022-10-07 18:09

Nice and coherent graphics style! Took me two tries to survive the night (I didn’t understand how salt worked at first), but I managed to. Some spooky music would make this even better. :)

scottgoldsmith 2022-10-07 18:22

Awesome graphics and nice gameplay! I really enjoyed this one. Very well done for a jam game.

shaolin-dave 2022-10-07 18:44

I think I got more of a hang of it the second time. - Arrow/WASD controls are vert intuitive, just curious why instructions only mention arrows? - X and C are a bit less intuitive, but at least there's only two actions. - It might help to make the game more self-explanatory or with in-game instructions? "Press X to fix" popping up over items is better than having to read about it before playing - I have no idea if I used the salt correctly, I was leaving it at the door but it didn't seem to influence anything. Again, a pop-up explaining where/when/how to use it would be helpful. - Randomly occurring events are great, but it gives different players unpredictable first-time (or ONLY-time) experiences. I suggest having the first few events scripted so that jammers can experience and learn the game as quickly as possible, and have the random ones occur later for those who already got the hang of it.

jamdong15 2022-10-07 18:48

@dzejpi Haha, two tries is actually really good!! I have a friend who's a self-proclaimed pro-gamer, and he's still haven't been able to beat it. xD Totally agree about music. Thank you for playing!

jamdong15 2022-10-07 18:49

@scottgoldsmith Thank you so much!! That means a lot.

jamdong15 2022-10-07 18:51

@shaolin-dave This is such great feedback!! 1. Totally agree about the in-game instructions; we would've liked to do a more in-depth tutorial if we had the time. 2. I also agree about the salt mechanic (basically, if your salt level isn't at 100%, the chances that the ghost will spawn will slowly increase) in that it isn't immediately clear about what it's doing. 3. And wow, I didn't even think about the scripted experiences-- really good point. Thank you so much for the helpful feedback!!

link270 2022-10-07 19:14

Nice job! I had a good time and understood the mechanics really easily. The graphics were nice, though animations could be a little better, sound was good, but seemed a tad loud, though I guess I could have just turned them down haha At first it was really easy, and I was worried I would just go forever, but it ramped up quickly. Well done!

rlewins 2022-10-07 19:25

Woo! I managed to survive, I thought the concept was interesting and fit the theme well, cute art style. Good Job!

timbeaudet 2022-10-07 19:53

I played this for you on [stream](https://www.twitch.tv/timbeaudet) and I think I gave good feedback there, if so give a heart, and if not, don't!!

jamdong15 2022-10-07 19:59

@link270 Glad you had a good time!! All great feedback-- thank you! :)

jamdong15 2022-10-07 19:59

@rlewins Whoo!! Awesome. Thank you so much, your kind words mean a lot.

jrevel 2022-10-07 20:05

cool idea, with pretty good graphics ! I think it has a solid base that you could expand in the future, but I found that a few things could be changed to increase drastically the fun the game provides : - having to spam a button to repair things is not really fun, I would like to be able to let the key pressed and wait for a bit - it is not clear that the ghost slows you down, making it a bit more drastic would help the player that did not read carefully instructions (I'm guilty of that, sorry, but I know I'm not the only one) - It's too bad that the salt is usable only on one door, I would have liked to use it a bit more. - The sound is a bit annoying, especially the one from the TV. It's mostly a problem of mix I think. - Generally, the game lack a bit of feedback. The rule is : whenever you interact with something, there should be a feedback, with a sound and a visual cue, wether it's a particle effect, a change of color on one of the object, etc. From my experience I can tell that there is never enough feedback, and it's what make the game concept shine.

leorid 2022-10-07 22:43

Constructive Criticism as requested:

- as others have mentioned, pressing the button as fast as possible could be replaced with a short wait time, which might improve the game flow - towards the end it feels unfair when too many things break at once without enough time to fix them before the health runs out, idk if it's random or by design but for me it seemed impossible to win - I don't quite understand when the ghost shows up as the salt was always about 75% - The hitbox for fixing things could be a bit more generous, fixing the door from the second step seemed logical from my perspective but the game didn't allow it

Tho I liked the overall idea of a haunted house and fixing things while running back and forth was quite comedic.

krasimir-balchev 2022-10-08 09:28

Great idea! Enjoyed it enough to play it until I beat it, which I managed to do on my 3rd attempt. My hand did hurt only after 3 attempts so yeah, I'd agree with the other comments that holding the button or having a wait time would have been better. Or maybe a mini game with timed presses, it would still require some skill but also it wouldn't be as hard on your hands. Well done, this is a fantastic game jam entry :)

shakedimus 2022-10-08 11:51

I thought the art style was nicely done, the sound effects were also good except for the hammer, I know it's realistic but it's a very annoying sound if you hear it repetitively. For your main action you should be careful to have a too loud or annoying sound. Aside from that I think the story around the game was nice but the mechanic of fixing stuff wasn't actually that fun for me. The salt was a nice touch though. Overall a very solid entry!

thyoi 2022-10-08 12:08

Very difficult, I have played many times.

Overall a very fun game with great sound and art.

jamdong15 2022-10-08 18:19

@jrevel Wow, thank you so much for the in-depth feedback!! This is all really good stuff. I agree with all of your points here. :) Thanks for rating!

jamdong15 2022-10-08 18:22

@leorid Thank you for the feedback!! These are all valid points, especially the salt mechanic. We had it so that the percentage that the ghost appears increases as the salt meter goes down but, in reality, that meant that sometimes the ghost would spawn at, say, 75% salt level which feels pretty unintuitive. So I totally agree about that. All your other feedback was on-point; thank you for taking the time to play and review our game!

jamdong15 2022-10-08 18:23

@krasimir-balchev I'm truly honored that you kept playing until you beat it; that means a lot :) And third attempt is pretty freaking good!! Totally agree about changing the mechanic for "fixing". Thank you for the kind words :)

jamdong15 2022-10-08 18:26

@shakedimus Thank you so much for playing! I agree about the hammering sound and "fixing" mechanic; definitely things that could've been improved! Appreciate your review! :)

jamdong15 2022-10-08 18:26

@thyoi The fact that you played multiple times means a lot. Thank you so much for the kind words :)

cookie-chr 2022-10-09 21:47

Nice game! The graphics were really nice, but the difficulty grew rather quickly so I didn't manage to win the game.

coleslaughter 2022-10-10 06:13

This was a neat little game! I managed to get through the entire thing without seeing a single ghost cuz I was mashin' fix 'n salt like a madman.

So I figured I'd give it another go just to see what the ghosts were like. I do think they do a good job of changing up the gameplay, but I think they should probably pop up more frequently to ensure the player always has to contend with them at least once!

Very unique game all-around, though. I always enjoy the more non-combat-focused entries.

kiririn51 2022-10-10 21:26

I love the cute visuals and the simplicity of the game's loop; it's perfectly scaled for the time you all had to make everything. Had a bit of a brainfart when I glanced over the instructions, thinking I knew what I had to do - only to get owned by the ghost (I thought the salt was to keep it away, not for the door lol). I don't have any particular nitpicks outside of the often ridiculous difficulty as you progress, but that's just normal game progression.

ehon 2022-10-11 18:36

I once made a hanouted house game with a similar perspective as this one so I really wanted to play this one as it reminded my of my own creation :D It was so cool and polished, the character looks cute and the idea of repairing a hanuted house is urely unique. Good work!

jamdong15 2022-10-12 08:00

@cookie-chr Thanks so much! :) Yes, we've had quite a bit of feedback on the difficulty curve; definitely something we want to improve in the future. Thank you for playing. Loved your game!

jamdong15 2022-10-12 08:02

@kiririn51 Hey, thanks for rating!! Was a big fan of your game :) Thank you so much for the kind words; the tutorial is definitely our fault, not yours, haha. It would've been more thoughtful & better user experience to provide tool tips / guided tutorial rather than everything all at once. And yes, the difficulty does scale pretty intensely; it was a really good learning moment for us! Thanks again for rating :)

jamdong15 2022-10-12 08:02

@ehon That's freaking awesome, thank you for playing :) Really appreciate the kind words.

jag 2022-10-12 19:59

@jamdong15 Thank you for your glowing review on my game! It makes me so happy to hear someone really enjoyed it; it made my day to hear that you stayed up to play it! You asked for a rating on your game, but I had already done so and left a comment up above from a few days ago ^^"

jamdong15 2022-10-12 20:54

Ah right, sorry about that, haha! And of course!! I had a blast :) @jag

zimny11 2022-10-12 22:44

Nice game! The art style looks awesome! And the whole idea for a game is really cool. My feedback would be: I would prefer to be able to jump with up arrow instead of spacebar, the repair sound effect is cut of while spamming the C button, so that could be improved too, the salt meter could go down faster (it was a bit too easy to keep it up all the time) or there should be another door to pay attention too, or maybe ghost could also enter through window. Love how the haunted cake looks like. Overall, great job!

jamdong15 2022-10-12 23:12

@zimny11 Thank you so much for playing and the detailed feedback! I love your idea of the ghost appearing through a window. That's a great point about using an "up" arrow instead; that does feel way more intuitive. Appreciate the kind words :)
