Cool game!
I like this game)
Lol you got me. I never download Windows versions when there's a HTML5 version but the only way to access the leaderboard is via Windows app. I can't resist a leaderboard for a game that doesn't have many plays yet....
PeaceOfCake is beating you by quite a bit, @javasaurus . I'm interested to know if there's technically a maximum score that can be achieved before the saws grind me to bits, because 5700 was the result of spamming my mouse button *a lot*.
Anyways.... really nice design! The music is still stuck in my head it's so nice and catchy, and the graphics are really good looking.
Really cool game ! The items are a bit too rare for my taste, and the saw's noise is not really nice in particular once you're dead (and it's a shame because the music is super nice !). I played with the standalone version but my score didn't get put into the leaderboard, might be because of something on my end I don't know, here's the screenshot of it : https://nsa40.casimages.com/img/2021/04/26/210426040410274331.png
@peace-of-cake-games : There is a strategy to go farther down I think : aim for empty spaces. It's faster to fall in an empty space than it is to dig the blocks below you, so it seemed to be the good strategy. No clue how far you could go though.
V3_banner.png
@mab-cat Mission accomplished ! hahahaaaaa Thank you for playing :)
@lokt02 Feels great that you enjoyed it ! :)
@bassilij Thank you, means a lot !
@peace-of-cake-games I tried getting the HTML5 version compatible with dreamlo, but I didn't have time to arrange for the SSL certificate stuff, so it can not connect through the browser unfortunately... Well, it's kinda comforting that the standalone version can handle it... And the webGL is a proper demo for the gameplay :D (for those that don't care about score). The I don't really know how deep you could max go, the game is designed to provide short and snappy rounds. Theoretically, the board is endless (it's generated procedurally). Trust me... the algorithm to plop tetrominoes in the right spot and pack as tight as possible is NOT as easy as I was thinking :D Anyway thanks again
@masaru Thank you for testing it ! The items are fully random, I hope you weren't just unlucky... It's always hard to balance these things in only 48 hours :p It's strange your highscore got lost... Perhaps the leaderboard was down for just a second... It should record your highscore on the next round though, as it is also stored locally. I added your score for you, it's not lost ! Sorry for the inconvenience
Really enjoyable, great job! maybe you could slow down the drills at the end because right now it's really hard to dig down faster than them, cool mechanics though
V3_banner.png
@mmisspelling Thank you so much for playing ! :) If you look at the latest update, I've unlocked 2 other difficulty modes that I was using during playtesting (refer to update section at the LD page) ... I didn't think people would actually want to play like that ^-^
Woaw, cool game, congrats!
I love the graphics, overall polish and "retrogaming" mood! The game is simple to pick up, and quite easy at first, but it come very very hard in no time!
Using mouse on Web Build my best score so far is 7700.
I love the music too, as well as the "game over" sound that reminds me a lot about Megaman!
I hope you keep working on it and release it as a fully fledged PC/Mobile game!
I loved playing the game as much as I loved watching you make the game. My personal Highscore is 10k :yum:
After I realised I was playing warehouse tetris, I did much better at keeping my poor turtle alive. Didn't see the drill too often, because time powerups.
Lots of fun, even without the constant view of the drill, the pressure is there to keep going quickly. Very good work.
@drludos Thanks ! I love the feedback :) And the death sound exactly is inspired by megaman, I actually tried very hard to recreate it, I'm glad I got close enough so people can hear it !!!!!!! :D I actually wanted to give some tribute to Bubble Bobble and Megaman... I was really hoping to get those vibes.
@jarne-h Thanks buddy !
@xeke-death was an honor to see you play my game :)
I love the reverse-tetris concept. If that's all this game offered it would have been pretty good, but you delivered a bit more than that, which ended up being more impressive. I like it! I think you'll do pretty good in the voting. good luck friend! :)
Very impressive what you managed to do in the time!
But maybe I'm misunderstanding, but the drill is not moving for me in the web version, on none of the difficulty modes. Even if I stand still, there is now consequence. I'm on linux, but I guess that shouldn't matter for the web version?
This was fun! I love the little turtle character :D Working my way down was fun but when the drills appeared it was terrifying :D Great work as always :)
@almighty-games was a pleasure seeing you play it ! Thank you @pavelc Thank you ! I haven't really noticed an issue when testing... I hope it's nothing consistent... But hey on the upside, if the drill isn't coming down, happy scores ? @gamesplusjames Means a lot that a game-dev-master such as yourself tells me that ;) Amazing !
had great fun playing this, you did really well.
I love this game, it has fine art, nice music and fun gameplay. A really good submission which is thoroughly polished and interesting to play.
this was really fun, a really well polished mini game!
rlly fun little arcade game! it does seem that the winning strategy is simply to dig straight down until you hit a metal tetromino, then carefully dig around it to continue digging straight down again. i just did that until i got what i figured was the highest score then gave up lol
Screenshot 2021-04-28 170838.png
maybe you could discourage a degenerate strategy like that by punishing the player a little more for not getting the time blocks things? also it would be nice to know how close the spikes are to you
@lakea Thank you !
@tricky-fat-cat I am very glad you've enjoyed it !
@jvdwijk Thank you for playing it at an ungodly hour, sorry again for that !
@6smith Digging straight down will not work unless if you get lucky, every 20 blocks there's a layer of metal blocks with a random gap for that reason... I'm already contemplating on how to make it more challenging and the energy meter you suggest might be just what I need to complete that puzzle ! (in a post jam). About knowing how close the spikes are ---> top left, there is an indicator that shows you ;)
Indicator.png
Also, remember that highscores are working on the standalone versions, the WEBGL failing is a browser issue more than anything. BUT here you go :
LeaderBoard.png
Good loop, I played on the computer but it feels like it would be even slicker on mobile! Only suggestion I can think of is to add a slightly different pattern / texture to the different boxes instead of just colors - I'm red-green color blind and found some of the color blocks hard to tell apart!
good job, this was all above average compo categories loved it
@kenneth-wheadon hey name-sake (I am also a Kenneth)! To be perfectly honest I put in random colors as a quick win, but having different box textures makes so much sense as well! I would have run out of time for compo, jut perhaps post jam I can fix it. I will gladly take your suggestion with me! ALso, it already has a mobile version :)
@cheesepencil thank you! I will never forget the triumph of winning your reflex game blindly!
Great sound , music and gfx. I found the game a bit too challenging for my slow reaction times, the mouse was tough to click through the blocks quick enough. Would be great on mobile with a touchscreen for sure.
Neat game, I love how colourful the videos are. I like the mechanics but the clicking seems a little inconsistent, sometimes it works right away and sometimes there's a delay. Occasionally it also doesn't highlight the group of blocks I'm moused over as well. But that's minor stuff that can be tweaked, overall this is a cool idea and would work well on mobile.
Super cool concept, great homage to arcade games. I adore the art style and music! Mouse controls felt a little glitchy on WebGL as some pointed out, but the overall experience is very polished, especially for a Compo game.
Wow, really polished entry. Took me a little bit to realise that I needed to get down FAST. Once I'd worked that out I really enjoyed the fast pace gameplay. I probably could have done with a few more time powerups at the start but other than that impressive entry :)
V3_banner.png
@johnnysix Thank you so much for the feedback ! There are zen mode and training mode options :) Just enable them if you want a more "relaxed" version !
@ryannielson Thank you so much ! The clicking actually has a short delay and I wasn't really able to figure out why it's not always highlighting... This should indeed be fixed post jam ^-^
@pijamar Thank you for the feedback ! Maybe I should have put keyboard as the default... it is available in the options menu !
@haztro Thank you very much ^-^ Yes moving down FAST is key ! :D
Good fun and really solidly put together, having the blocks as tetris shapes felt like a nice twist on digging games.
Really awesome game.About everything feels right on this game.
Great game! I had a lot of fun trying to get to the top of the leaderboard!
Very cool and fun game. Simple idea, yet very very fun. I have to say that I really like the art style.
The game looks nice. The gameplay is not bad but it would've been nice if there was more motivation to move left and right. By digging straight down I could get very far, until the wall above me started moving faster than myself. Good job though!
Really enjoyable, almost like a Mr Driller on cocaine style game!
The first time I played it was with the mouse and didn't really get the controls/movement and I got around 140000 points, then I switched to keyboard and got 245700 points so I don't know if you *might* be better off making keyboard controls default at first or not. If you made mouse the only input/or really tweaked and polished it I can see this being a really awesome mobile game/very addictive. (Seems like some other people mentioned keyboard too)
Art and music very cute, gives me bubble bobble vibes!
Overall a really solid entry, great use of the theme because you're constantly going down, and great job finishing!
Hey @jhax , thank you very much for the feedback ! And maybe unexpected... but the tetris shapes were the WORST to get working. I spent about... 30% of the dev time on it :up:
Hey @Roidz, thank you for the awesome feedback, glad you liked it !
@parasite210 Thanks ! Hopefully post jam I'll be able to use a real leaderboard instead of Dreamlo's
@v0idpointer Thank you for the nice feedback ! :)
@sheepolution Thank you !
@2bitcrook I am glad the bubble bobble vibes came through, I really wanted that to happen ! Indeed, maybe the webGL and the standalone versions should have a default keyboard setting. It does persist it when you change it so next time, should you want to play, it should have remembered it ! Thanks for playing !
Pretty addictive game, my hand hurt now, thank you
The game is super fun ! And it has these amazing graphics :) It would be great to have a jump button (Maybe I missed it). In my third run I got stuck between 3 solid blocks and I could not escape. The game is really fun BTW good job !
Man that was frustrating with default mouse controls but fun and easy with keyboards. Seems kind of random in many parts - I don't quite get it when I will be crushed with the blocks. My only strategy is to smash down as fast as possible, occasionally steer into the direction of $$$ :) Overall well done!
V3_banner.png
@kuviman thank you, was a joy to see you play it!
@lorwon ye... i couldnt really figure out how to combat that easily, but i made the blocks destructible for yhat reason, you just need to hit them more !
@nosfer it is random in a way, the sections are procedurally generated packing tetrominoes. One of those eyecatchers that nobody notices :) Thanks for playing !
Solid entry Java! The mechanics are simple, yet feels like you want to try again and do better next time. I think the least satisfying way to die in this is when the bricks above fall down onto you. I found because its a game of kind of spamming dig, that the blocks falling mechanic didn't add a ton and caused some frustrating deaths. The pace is too fast paced to really think about blocks falling, I personally found.
Really good entry though - graphics and audio on point, and high score table always is a positive thing!
Dude that was frantic! For me it didn't work out with the mouse controls, as my wrist was getting painful very quickly. And I think it would be more intuitive to have the blocks destroy on mouse down instead of mouse up. Then I discovered how to turn keyboard or controller on, and it totally changed the game. In the end controller worked best for me. The screen shake and particles are subtle, but really enhanced the feeling of satisfaction as I hacked and slashed my way downwards. Now I have to lay down for a while, because my heartbeat must have been above 300. XD Congratulations on releasing the game on android. Cheers!
Hey matey, thanks for submitting your game to stream! I had fun playing it, and I hope you found the feedback useful! Here's the vod if ya wanna rewatch it;
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1006003249
Very nicely done for 48 hours, feels like a full game. Two criticisms I have: the countdown in the beginning of a round didn't catch my attention first, so I thought the game just bugs out and I can't do anything. Even after noticing the countdown it still felt a little bit out of the place. Maybe it should be centered and span the whole screen. Second: the art, while being very nice, would benefit very much if you'd made it display pixel-perfect in the game. Otherwise, this unclean look arises.
Thanks for bringing your game by my stream for playtesting! If you’d like to revisit the play and commentary you can view the highlight at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1007523294
Very addictive "just one more game" quality. Good work!
Thanks for joining the stream! Like others, here's the vod if you want to watch: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1007338673
Really fun to avoid getting crushed, I found myself doing bigbrain dodges and feeling like an expert.
I see this game on a mobile. I spent some desperate time running away from the giant drill. It goes down really fast! What I liked most was the music. Leaderboar would come in really handy. I don't know if I was a good turtle, but here's my record.
turtle.jpg
Congratulations!
Fun and innovative game! It felt like learning the patterns of the colors was beneficial for getting a good score! Sometimes it felt like the block didn't break even though I clicked and sometimes some blocks had a highlight that made me believe I could destroy them but I couldn't.
Overall it was really fun though! :D
V3_banner.png
@honest-dan Thanks for the feedback ! Glad you enjoyed it :) I'm really hoping to get the feel just a bit more "right" on mobile. Hoping for my first release !
@bauke-regnerus Hahaha, thanks for playing and sorry if I caused any stress !
@justcamh thank you so much for playing :)
@skosnowich I agree with both your comments, I'll make sure they're amended in the release ! :)
@marcmagus Thank you for playing ! AND for the most memorable quote... "My rating is... I need to turn this off before I continue playing"
@aidanmarkham Thank you so much for playing, was a joy being in your stream !
@euler-moises It already works on mobile ! I need to make it more responsive and add some stuff to make it look nicer though... The leaderboard does work on the standalone versions though :)
@korfi Thank you so much ! The patterns of the colors are basically just the tetrominoes shapes... I was thinking to maybe make it a bit more complex and link the same shapes together for colors, but scope etc ;) Thank you very much !
In a stupid mistake I have cleared the leaderboards... Guess we'll be working with seasons then :p Terribly sorry !
@honest-dan I'm really intrigued by the difference in our experiences here: I found the falling blocks interesting as a "have to pay attention when I dig under things for a power-up/to get to a gap to see if I'm going to drop something on my head I need to dodge", but I found the drill chasing slightly unsatisfying because it always felt like it came out of nowhere and just *boom, game over* rather than building tension and encouraging me to dig faster/hunt clocks powerups.
@marcmagus I have to say, I went back and I had the same impression, so your assessment is definitely valuable. I hope you'll find some time post LD to test the updated version :) The drill should come down stepwise, giving a more "fair" feeling. I also noticed an error on my end, the algorithm is intended to build right to left OR left to right, but due to a bug it always went left to right, meaning the "holes" were biased to one side... Either way, thanks for playing !
This is great. Saw it on the Birdwards stream and tried it myself, managed to get onto the leaderboard at the time. It's fun! Cool to see a Mr.Driller-like in Ludum Dare.
Not much to say for something that's great across the board! I think this'd be a neat PC roguelike (or whatever) if only the controls were a tad slicker - namely, get rid of clicking the mouse and just always dig in the directional key that the player inputs. Overall I gave it a 4.5 - another fun installment from a veteran LD competitor!
Pretty cool spin on Mr. Driller concept. I didn't think there were many people out there that had played the game, but this is the third game (including mine) that were inspired by it. Great job though, this was fun.
I love it! While similar to Mr. Driller, it was overall an improvement for me- I really liked the change from resource management (oxygen meter) to instead having pressure from overhead drills. Great work for the compo and I look forward to a possible full release later :D
V3_banner.png
Dear Jammers, Organizers and Enthusiasts ,
LD48 is indeed running at its end and I would want to thank all of you for the glorious edition we've had this time round. Regardless of results, this final Compo has been a blast. Well done to all and thank you all for this event ! However... It is not done just yet.
As Super Turtle Drop turned out quite popular, in- and outside of the Ludum Dare community, I've decided to just go for it. I cleared the leaderboards. The idea is that the person with the highest in game score will be recorded as the Ludum Dare Super Turtle Drop Champion for all eternity on the LD page! As I plan to release the game on mobile (post jam update offcourse), that player will also be featured in the credits (should I ever get to that stage).
Please, do enjoy yourself. There's a build for Windows, Linux and Android ready !
***WARNING : WEB BUILD DOES NOT CONNECT TO LEADERBOARDS***
Till then,
JavaSaurus (Super Turtle Drop creator)
SuperTurtleDropCup.png
I heard there was a highscore competition :D
@ me if someone beats it :)
Turtle.png
Haha, of course the eternal ruler of all leaderboards @ausstein is the new leaderboard champion. Looks like an unbeatable score (possibly because on Training mode I only got around 1000000 points before I got sloppy and was crushed).
Can't say I'm surprised to see the Keyboard Cowboys ranking in at #3.
Nice game! Quite challenging! Noticed though that when I stand on the edge of a block I can't destroy it. Happened quite a lot. Good work, nonetheless!
Why was the Highscore reset again?
Anyway I beat my score from yesterday by a lot. However the hit system seems buggy. There were quite a lot of moments where I thought I should have died. I recorded the run so I'll upload it to youtube
Turtle2.png
I just realized all the pieces that I thought should have killed me were 4-big pieces, maybe this is a feature that the 4 pieces are not strong enough to crush you?
Anyway Here is the Video:
https://youtu.be/jUjDeXSEZIU
@ausstein Hey there ! Well I reset the leaderboard because some people admitted to have used an auto-clicker... I tried to fix it and I hope I didn't break anything else, seems I did :) Either way I'll re-add your score ! No worries !
[Thanks for submitting your game to the stream!](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1023830637?t=00h52m40s)
Sorry for exposing an exploit live on stream. :P I actually super enjoyed this one! The amount of personality and crunchiness you were able to pack into the gameplay was downright impressive. I can totally see this getting expanded in some really cool ways (similar to all of the ideas you were bringing up in chat). Awesome job! :thumbsup:
@javasaurus
I use no auto clicker, but I can click very fast:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mN9evVZp1tA
Now for this I used two fingers, with one finger as I would use while normally playing I can get something like 7 klicks per second
https://klickspiel.net/
@ausstein oh this wasn't you ! :D Someone else literally admitted :)
Thank you for letting me play this on stream forever ago (and other positive peer pressure--no I haven't fixed it yet)! [Here's that clip](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1007876502?t=1h38m40s) in case you ever want to rewatch. Phenomenal job getting your materials swapped from the incompatible HDRP in time to submit; this is a very good game and moreover an incredibly violent way to make high-fiber soup.
