LD39 — Running out of Power

Zero Volt X by deepnight 2017-08-07T07:16:55Z

Really fun and interesting take on the classic shmup! For the first time doing a shmup according to the credits it didn't feel like it at all! You hit all the right notes with the graphics and controls and having to dodge bullets while rebalancing weapons on the fly was a nice twist on both the standard shmup mechanics and the theme! I'm glad you made it relatively forgiving with checkpoints but still challenging enough that I had to learn how to play the game.

Hope you have time to followup and make a boss for this! I feel like this could be a pretty great full game!

Coffee is Power by Tyler Miller 2017-08-10T02:45:34Z

Pretty interesting take on doing the LD jam in a game! I ran into some issues with getting the "programming" to work standing next to the computer, but I like how you managed to get some small hints towards getting sleep, making sure to eat, and not overworking yourself to death during the jam. It would be nice to have some more random checklist events like the initial brainstorm. Good job!

LD56 — Tiny Creatures

Blobbies by tuism 2024-10-18T23:24:42Z

Moving around the little blobbies feels so smooth and the pop sound is very satisfying. The ramp up is really interesting too, I wish there was a way to auto-pop the chains just so you could have just a bit more control, but I realize that's part of the balancing act as the difficulty ramps up. Excellent entry!

Cheese It! by drinkycode 2024-10-08T08:10:00Z

@comicsans Thanks for the heads up on this, we uploaded a new version that plays the game windowed.

Critter Switcher by torcado 2024-10-11T08:17:37Z

Really cute game and the little animal flourishes with small unique interactions was pretty neat. Definitely hit a bunch of dead ends going about, but still got through and beat everything in 16 minutes. I also had the weird audio distortion issue playing itch.io browser, but it added to the game in a weird way I felt (like you were going deeper and deeper in the labyrinth and getting lost). Great job!

Azulina's Night of Sprites and Fright by ryusui 2024-10-18T04:52:21Z

Lots of props on the atmosphere for this, it was appropriately creepy and unsettling (and fit well with the low-poly look of everything). Had a few times I fell into the level geo and got stuck and man is the monster aggressive, wish there was a little more leeway in terms of it noticing you.

Lil Wrangler by Phing 2024-10-19T05:24:23Z

Really wanted to play this on my Playdate, but wildly couldn't get it to run in simulator based on the same error trying out on Windows and Intel Macbooks too... but I finally did the sideload via the Playdate website and that worked out!

Really cute idea, definitely a little early and it was a bit confusing that you could walk into the holes in the ground and end your game immediately. The sprites for your herd dog and the sheep work really well in all their monochromatic dithered glory on the Playdate.

FOREST CLEARING by jefvel 2024-10-25T05:12:47Z

Great gameplay loop and there's something sinister about needing to willingly sacrifice your own herd for meat.

Creatures of the abyss by kumber 2024-10-11T14:55:27Z

Pretty nice for starting mid-Sunday and learning a new engine! One note is that the dither for the sea does cause a little eye strain on my part.

White Blood Shells by Roka Josh 2024-10-22T07:48:32Z

Pretty awesome! Had a lot of Chex Quest vibes (of course with the Doom/boomer shooter setup) and there were a lot of neat little touches like hearing the audio for the room doors reopen everytime you entered an area, good gib particles on death, and so on. The only thing I really disliked is your walking step sounds, it's so squishy in all the wrong ways (but maybe that's intentional). Great job!

Bacteria Bashers by UnitedFailures 2024-10-17T05:30:38Z

First few games were a rough, but once I got the hang of the loose controls this was pretty neat. Really enjoyed the look of the world and liked how it felt like you were building up a big swarm by the end. Only issues was that I wished there were more enemies and difficulty and the audio for killing the bacteria would clip a bit.

Cheddar Chaser by magus77 2024-10-17T05:15:51Z

The scale of the mouse really worked, also man this house/office has a ton of cats.

Hamster Hamilton's Cardboard Quest by Yaen 2024-10-18T07:29:12Z

Loved The Incredible Machine vibes, although getting used to the physics-driven nature of everything took a bit. One thing that would have been nice is a way to speed up the little hamster dude, going through the levels takes a touch too long when retrying solutions because of how deliberately its paced.

Lucky Lefty Loves Lofty Little Lodges by TheBookSnail 2024-10-18T04:21:04Z

Definitely a super interesting take on the theme and city (snail?) builders? Love the twist on having the city survive different forms of travel, would have loved stuff to get even more extreme later on (earthquakes? extreme wind?). Very original!

The Best Laid Plans by HexyVexy 2024-10-18T05:10:56Z

I sadly was also defeated by the plough level, although I thought the journey up to that point was fascinating. The voiceover work was great and there was a good mix of different kinds of platforming challenges. The way the mouse scampers visually was really well done also. I just wish the last level wasn't so tough and the camera was just a tad more zoomed out and not as touchy when moving around.

Shrimpy by Kultuk 2024-10-18T23:57:48Z

Man this sure is a very long mouth... but really cute idea and great overall execution. Really liked the small touches like the background jellyfish and bubbles and how the food was tiny nigiri or little sushi rolls.

Slimeow Game by Quan Ran 2024-10-19T05:07:09Z

Really enjoyed this, it feels like this could easily be expanded into a fuller game based on the time I spend maxing out this version already. Would love to see even more building options and enemy types, it definitely hit a point where the game almost became an idler but honestly not a bad thing. Great job!

Fat Bear Fumble by wazce 2024-10-19T05:45:35Z

Really interesting idea, the concept of having the bear be like a weird bowling-like object that needs to go around and cause havoc (but not too much havoc) in order to knock trees down while still collecting and building resources is fascinating. There's a lot going on, almost too much honestly, but I admire the ambition here and keeping in the Halloween/spooky season spirit too with the pumpkins and ghosts!

King of the Hill by john-wuller 2024-10-17T05:20:50Z

Had a nice Pikmin-esque look to everything. Do wish the camera was not so zoomed in though, with the fast camera action it's pretty easy to get lost while looking around.

The Wriggling Path by leckert 2024-10-17T05:45:00Z

Really interesting physics platformer, loves how it really worked with the theme on tiny creatures and how each creature had its own function that built up into different puzzles. Definitely had some of that classic physics jank where some puzzles were finicky, but nothing that I really got stuck on. Good stuff!

Squirrel Insulation Thieves by runningopenloop 2024-10-18T04:29:10Z

Way harder than it looks ha, there's definitely something interesting with the risk vs. reward of chewing before the current hits you. The squirrel's hitbox does feel a little janky, wish it was just a tad easier to navigate especially in tight spots. Also felt bad for the little dude whenever they get shocked.

Get Souped! by LChaves 2024-10-18T04:44:00Z

There's always something fun about being a big monster stomping on buildings (even though that wasn't the main point). Agreed with others that I sometimes forgot the main objective was to get people in the soup and not just stomp infected people though. Cute designs for the monster too!

Sea Beckons by Empyreans 2024-10-22T07:18:11Z

Definitely a lot going on here, can feel the ambition really bursting at the seams for this jam game. Like others have said, there's a lot that would feel really cool in a more developed title. The combat/shooting for the ship feels really fun and tactile already though. The map is a bit confusing and it took me a little bit to realize it was worth stopping to pick stuff up at most anchor points, but still really good stuff for a LD jam!

Slurp'em all by Romane R. 2024-10-19T05:53:27Z

Definitely got the softlock when growing too large like others have said. The art is really cute, but I do think there could be a little more lerping between movement targets, as a whole it feels very jumpy when the slime "snaps" onto the targets or its own lure in a way that doesn't feel good. The sense of scale as your grow is nice though, I wish your enemies also scaled with you too since at a certain point the game just ends up playing itself. Still nice work to the team!

Pumpking by FrozenDude 2024-10-18T14:53:57Z

Snakes definitely felt like the best option to go overall, but the bones of a bullet heaven survival game are definitely there. Good funky music too!

Ant Infestation by Manamat 2024-10-19T05:33:44Z

Cute sprites for the ants! I do feel like at a certain point it didn't feel like you really needed to use the special abilities, throwing rocks was more than good enough to even get rid of the "boss" ants. Good work!
