LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Jetpack Caverns by Mental Atrophy 2014-04-30T05:54:00

I love the art style. Great jetpack controls.

The Show Must Go On by Sestren 2014-04-28T03:31:00

I have bookmarked this to play it some more after GoT but after a couple minutes I think this is a fantastic and original idea. I like the presentation so far too. keep going with it!

Project Tethys by vilya 2014-04-29T19:16:00

Nice. I like the tactical element of dealing with attacks from three directions.

Watch Your Step by nka 2014-04-29T01:13:00

This seems very cool and complete except every time I stack it says "Miss" and I get nothing for it.

The Legend of the Thunder Fish by BMacIntosh 2014-04-29T18:04:00

You win man. I thought this was cool for the first few minutes... then I figured out how to fish. Great work!

Temple of Ra by Split82 2014-04-28T16:22:00

Very cool mechanic although in Chrome under Win7 I am having a lot of trouble aiming the light beams accurately because they move so fast.

Something Fishy by AnnaGavaldaKedavra 2014-04-29T06:07:00

This is artistically valid.

Ascendence by Diamonde 2014-04-28T21:20:00

Stuck pretty early in the game. Used my gamepad. Kept blowing myself up but I'm not sure if that's supposed to achieve anything or if it's meant to be a restart. Nice work.

Infinite Dig Dug by jotson 2014-04-28T21:47:00

Very tight controls and solid gameplay. Neat bouncy feel to the graphics and UI. Overall great work. I know you're supposed to avoid the magma but it's too much fun to drown the monsters in molten rock.

You commented about the animation of my game character not bending his knees. Those are just left/right keyframes I would defintely have his knee bending between those two frames. Just to be clear!

The Core Eaters by porglezomp 2014-04-28T02:57:00

I am terrible at this but it's legit. I like the controls. I wish there was a rating for controls. 5/5 for them although the ship could maybe have a tad bit more acceleration.

Prairieo by Tater_hater 2014-04-28T02:45:00

Fun!

Deep South Motel by iossif 2014-04-29T19:30:00

Very fun and absorbing for a little while. Then it randomly ends... is it timed? And I think it's reporting my high score wrong? It said I had$100.. I had like $300. Aside from that great work.

Cry Baby by Elforama 2014-04-28T05:45:00

I'm pasting all the Unity based games into FireFox as Chrom doesn't play nicely with it on my system. This game is pretty solid platforming. I'm working on some side scrollers and I'm going to implement a smoothly accelerating camera like in this game.

Deep Blue Surface by jinxly 2014-04-28T18:47:00

Nice complete game. I feel a kinship with you because I came very close to calling my game DEEP BLUE SEA the game and packaging it like one of those NES movie licensed games. I also thought of using WATERWORLD. In the end I decided against it but that was probably a mistake. But our games are also similar in mechanic. Have to say I expected to see a lot more swimming based games.

Anyhow, back to your game. I beat the second level but got distracted and died anyways. My favourite thing about this game is probably the animation through perspective when the player changes directions. Little touches like that used to blow my mind back in the day when pixel art was a harsh reality and not a freely chosen aesthetic style.

In all seriousness this is a fun game and one of the best entries I've rated.

Beneath The Memories by StuffBySpencer 2014-04-28T03:34:00

Very Douglas Adams.

Berserker by SteveSalmond 2014-05-01T20:05:00

I am amaze.

Total Tipanic by tiffi_gaming 2014-04-28T02:31:00

Fun... you should keep working on it I think it would be a great mobile game.

I like big BOMBS! by Pete_H 2014-04-28T02:42:00

it's undresponsive for me!

Under The Pavements , The Hell (UPTH) by Tixis123 2014-04-28T14:42:00

Tried to play web and windows but the links are broken.

Under The Pavements , The Hell (UPTH) by Tixis123 2014-04-28T18:59:00

The first jumpscare got me. I couldn't figure out what killed me one time. Is that a sax in the opening riff? The drippy audio gives some nice ambience.

Somalia by Tomski 2014-04-28T23:06:00

Hmmm I avoid most games that don't offer a web version but this one has me curious.

Defend the Surface by zeal 2014-04-28T21:33:00

I couldn't make any sense of this. Nice art style though.

Persephone by WhoaConstrictor 2014-04-28T15:13:00

Is there a way to use the key once you get it?

Mole Position by Glint Games 2014-04-28T19:47:00

Controls hard to use in Chrome.

Insect War by mikedirl 2014-04-28T13:52:00

Gravity is way too fast. Strongest element was the music which sounds like late-80s arcade and Sega Genesis music.

Nesty Fall by cleitoneldorn 2014-04-28T03:24:00

Not gonna sign up for an account to play this. Maybe you could move it somewhere else?

HYPERHYDROSIS by Craig Smye 2014-04-28T13:57:00

eldog, haha thanks. A secondary goal was to get some nice smooth animation in place for the hero. But as you can see it's all keyframes. I'll be continuing work on this game with announcement as to where to play here and on Twitter.

HYPERHYDROSIS by Craig Smye 2014-04-28T20:13:00

@GreenyUK you're right the camera waits too long to move up or down and there are some jitter issues. I'll shrink the free play zone so that the camera follows closer and the hero character stays more centered.

HYPERHYDROSIS by Craig Smye 2014-04-28T20:58:00

.. meaning in later versions. Not in this submitted version. Just to be clear.

HYPERHYDROSIS by Craig Smye 2014-04-30T06:13:00

^lol.

HYPERHYDROSIS by Craig Smye 2014-05-05T18:54:00

^ thank you Toby. I have taken it (the mechanic) a bit further. Sliding, diving, getting in and out of the water have all been tuned up.

I'll make the link to play an updated version available here when voting is concluded.

HYPERHYDROSIS by Craig Smye 2014-05-16T07:58:00

Update: I'm still fiddling with the mechanic. And smoothing out the engine. Things are much smoother and it really feels like swimming. At this rate the game will be ready to play in five years. JK kinda.. I am still fiddling with the mechanic but the concept is really coming along too. And the level design philosophy is becoming clear.

HYPERHYDROSIS by Craig Smye 2014-05-21T08:15:00

The Web link now has the extended version, with a link to play the competition version if you'd like. In the extended version the character has his swimming-related mechanics all tuned up, and a lot of the camera issues are worked out.

Beneath Colossal by Liens 2014-04-28T17:55:00

Sweet. Very tough. But I dig it.

Divernaut by Garris 2014-04-28T05:54:00

Sweet, reminded me of Blaster Master with the hero's look and when it switches game modes. Nice complete game, my highest rating so far.

Amy's Rescue by WhiteWolf93 2014-05-10T15:16:00

Very fun. I couldn't beat it in a few tries. Is the wall jumping intentional or a glitch? I'm working on a game that has wall-jumping like in NES Ninja Gaiden.

Atomicle - LostAutumn.net by AutumnGuy 2014-04-28T13:49:00

Great look and feel. After a minute or two I got it and then got good at it.

DEPTH BENEATH by mimic 2014-04-29T19:04:00

This is super-tight. I like how you start by walking the hero off the splash screen.

Dr. Beat by eldog 2014-04-28T18:09:00

I tried it in FF with Keyboard and Chrome using my Logitech F710. The sideways acceleration curve is too steep and I gave up after missing too many platforms too quickly.

Bobs Incident by shane1090 2014-04-28T13:45:00

Tough game. But a real game!

29 Leagues by Nition 2014-04-28T06:15:00

Nice. I'm a sucker for pseudo 3D. Much better using mouse for movement.

Love Letter Typer by seanographies 2014-04-28T02:52:00

I got one or two rooms in and was trapped?

In The Caves by Clinthoney 2014-04-28T02:49:00

Love the 8-bit 3D aesthetic.

Descent by camlang 2014-05-14T06:43:00

Nice work all around. Pretty masterful. Gave me an old school Psygnosis vibe... and then the music kicked in!

Speak Softly and Carry a Big Stick by shyupuff 2014-04-28T05:48:00

Great look to the art. If you keep working on the game you should be able to kill graham crackers and also chocolate and then make some smores.

Reflection by thebmxeur 2014-04-28T21:24:00

I actually bookmarked this to come back and play a bit more later. This is a fun little mind-bender.

We Grow by porousnapkin 2014-04-28T03:22:00

This is an excellent game. You should take it all the way. Funny it's very similar to what I thought I might try to make at first which is sort of a Poseidon Adventure thing where you are "flocking" through a series of hazardous rooms. This is the best game I've rated so far. Only a couple more then I gotta dip out to pick up some take out and catch the west coast re-run of Game of Thrones!

Dark Moles! by ninjascript 2014-04-29T06:04:00

I'm trying to branch out from diving games. I almost made a game like this but it was going to be horrible lovecraftian worms and such bursting forth and you'd have to burn them. Then I realized that was a huge part of the terrible ALONE IN THE DARK remake from 2008 which I bought for full price. Ugh!

Blunderer by Jacob Peltola 2014-04-28T17:28:00

Neat. I made this almost fullscreen on my 30" panel (by using CTRL+ in firefox to scale up the Unity window). At one point I got the level spinning so fast that it started making me slightly nauseous. Funny but I never had motion sickness before getting an Oculus. It seems like I'm much more susceptible to it now.

Death's Masquerade by Akihidas 2014-04-28T03:27:00

Great idea. How do I get to kill Celes? She's got to go!!

Middle Management Hell by Hammervuis 2014-04-29T17:37:00

Web link is broken.

Revenge of the Kraken by malmazuke 2014-04-28T19:37:00

Sweet game, one of my favourites from this LD. It legit feels like an old retro game. In 1985 you would pay $money for this on a Commodore 64. I think this could be expanded into quite a fun experience. Small tip: it might pay to move the SPACEBAR bit of the opening splash down to the bottom where the rest of the controls are listed. I didn't notice the boost at first.

Something Fishy by StabAlarash 2014-04-28T21:37:00

Great game. Very polished and complete and fun. Nice work on the art too. My highest rating so far for this one.

Cave Harrier by madjackmcmad 2014-04-28T02:19:00

I considered making a pseudo z-axis game for my entry.

FishCopter by minism 2014-04-28T03:07:00

I love it. Feels like an old NES game except for the suspension line with it's fine rotation. I especially like the music. I gottta get some chiptunes going.

Room Cleaning Simulator 2014 by lokijki 2014-04-29T19:43:00

Yesss. I got the cookies. Nice physics.

Six Clouds Above by Eniimal 2014-04-29T06:01:00

Nice easing curves on the flight controls.

Side B, Track 1 by Taugeshtu 2014-04-28T19:53:00

I had a lot of random shit happening.

Beneath the Trolls by Dreauw 2014-04-28T17:25:00

Nice controls/mechanic. There should be separate ratings for soundFX and music. One "audio" score often leaves me feeling conflicted.

LD30 — Connected Worlds

The Fall of Man by FacticiusVir 2014-08-25T20:38:00

I can't get the game to start. Maybe it's Chrome.
