LD59 — Signal

Signal of the Dark Forest by Tygrak 2026-05-08T13:31:45Z

This might be the most unique and deeply moving game I've played at LD59. It felt like watching an A24 film — being transmitted by a signal? That itself sounds so surreal. Maybe we all live on different frequencies. Honestly, the core theme reminds me of I Saw the TV Glow — we're slowly buried by the daily grind of reality until the signals in our heads just keep repeating. The ending feels rushed, but it feels like an ARG —— we step out of the signal and back into reality. I don't know how to put it… I really, really love the vibe of this visual novel. The music and visuals work together beautifully.

Free wristband (lots of work) by Meta-link 2026-05-06T03:02:48Z

Chasing arrows through a crowded festival somehow made me smile. The panic when tasks stack up feels real, and the art style is lovely.

Probe Away by quadtree 2026-05-06T09:18:01Z

Really interesting concept — sending out probes to paint the map is relaxing and oddly addictive. The gravity fields from planets add a nice twist, and discovering you can launch multiple probes at once makes it even more fun. Seeing the final colour map is super satisfying. Some tuning (battery, fuel, visuals) could be improved, but the core mechanic already feels fresh and complete. Great job!

A Signal in the Woods by Ethan Allwood 2026-05-08T05:51:48Z

Really digging the art style and animations – super polished for a jam game. The deck-building + real-time shooting is wild!!! And yeah, reading cards while dodging gets a bit hectic. But the spell casting and crow summons feel awesome. One more thing: some kind of deck sorting by function would be nice – the cards can get pretty messy when you have too many. Anyways, solid work for a two-day game jam project! Congrats!

That Italian February Week by sbeif 2026-04-24T14:25:37Z

A really interesting Sokoban game — the puzzle design is genuinely outstanding. What charmed me the most, though, were those adorable and hilarious noises scattered throughout the game. They added so much personality and made the whole experience genuinely fun.

Highest in the world by CaptainDreamcast 2026-05-06T09:29:35Z

Super funny and charming entry. The jokes landed well (loved the signal messaging app gag), and each level had a genuine surprise — hell and the moon were my favorites. The tiny details, like enemies growing little horns, really made me smile.

Gameplay is solid: the faster you climb, the quicker you finish the level, which works great for speedruns. That said, the controls feel a bit floaty on keyboard, and some levels (like No Hot Chicks Heaven) are pretty tough. Still, it never felt unfair.

The hand-drawn pixel art, voiceover, and overall polish are excellent. Took me around 4 minutes to beat — short but absolutely worth it. Great work!

Singing Space CEOs by Jack Maxwell 2026-05-05T15:18:43Z

Played for about twenty minutes — really fun and unique. I was pretty lost at first, had no idea what to do, but eventually figured out that you need to align the tracks to create a looping song. The mixing panel is super detailed; I spent quite some time just messing around with all the sliders. That said, I couldn’t manage to make a complete track — the recording time felt a bit too short and kept interrupting me. Even so, the visuals and voice acting alone made it worth it. And that banjo guy who stops playing the moment I hit record? Hilarious and annoying at the same time lol. Would love a bit more guidance and longer recording time in the future — I’d definitely play it more.

Below the Light by Beebo Studios 2026-04-27T14:55:38Z

Overall, this is a very immersive mystery adventure. I search for the secrets of the lighthouse within the riddles left by my predecessor. The overall level of polish is very high – whether in terms of music, art, or puzzle complexity, everything is reasonably designed and well-balanced. The only point I think could be improved is that when listening to the radio, the background music could be turned down a little, because sometimes it drowns out the voice from the broadcast.

Pawn Patron by deformhead 2026-05-04T03:07:33Z

I really love the visuals and the sound. The game mechanics require players to make quick judgments and reactions — it's very tense and exciting. The overall pacing is fast. I haven't fully figured out the trigger mechanism for Hazouking yet, but other than that, I think it's really fun and really hope this could be developed into a full game, the mechanics is cool.

Aye Aye, Can't See! by Avhatar 2026-04-24T05:56:27Z

At first I felt clumsy and always bump into things, but once I got the hang of it, the atmosphere became tense and thrilling! Also really love the retro art style. However, it seems there isn't a “Restart” button after dying. If possible, please add one. Overall, it was a thrilling and fun gaming experience.

Signaling Home by TinySalad 2026-04-24T14:07:41Z

The art style is gorgeous — like a picture book brought to life, with that highly saturated fairy-tale palette. However, I feel the gameplay could be a bit more obvious. After starting the game, I noticed the patterns and figured out some rules, but I wasn't quite sure what I was actually supposed to do.

Holy Light by Tvorojok 2026-04-24T06:37:52Z

The visuals and music are a cinematic treat — I felt transported back to the medieval era. It’s a truly immersive visual and auditory experience.

Seagnal by Pikario 2026-05-04T02:04:46Z

This is a wonderfully atmospheric game. The art style, music, and boat controls are genuinely enjoyable, and the radio voiceover is especially funny and charming — it's clear a lot of love and care went into it.

The world feels rich and immersive, though sailing can occasionally feel a bit long. Getting caught by the police means restarting, which adds tension and challenge — but a checkpoint system could make it even more player-friendly. The goal is intriguing, and the level design is creative; adding a few landmarks (like mountains or rivers) on the map would make navigation even smoother.

Seagnal by Pikario 2026-05-04T02:04:46Z

Overall, the concept and vibe are fantastic. I'm really looking forward to future improvements — this already has the makings of a truly polished gem. With just a little more tuning, it could be absolutely brilliant.

Obey the Signal? by RetenQ 2026-05-08T12:06:59Z

The gameplay is short, but the mechanic is pretty interesting. It asks you to follow given signals and reach the goal within a set number of steps. It's a promising mechanic with a lot of potential — keep it up!

Broken Jukebox by Pimeko 2026-05-06T07:42:04Z

A really nice relaxing little game — it feels like I'm right there on the dancefloor myself. Chill.

Connection Restoration by BrahGold 2026-05-06T09:05:03Z

Very short, but the mix of mechanics is interesting.

Traffic Control by Alec Cunningham 2026-05-04T03:49:49Z

This might be the most absurd and hilarious game I've played in Ludum Dare 59. I caused over forty traffic accidents, and then at the end it said I put an end to traffic accidents. I love the voice acting lol — it made the whole game feel even more ridiculous.

LiliesPond by wo_ri_gou_le 2026-05-06T08:53:40Z

Really fresh and unique concept — I don't think I've seen a rhythm game like this before. The jungle/dnb soundtrack alone made it stand out. The visuals and music together create a pretty trippy vibe, and I loved watching the lilies light up. That said, I was a bit confused at first about what exactly I was supposed to do, and the bug did bother me from time to time. Still, the whole experience felt pleasant and meditative. For a jam game, this is beautifully made. Great work!

D:Code by CosmogonicFrog 2026-04-27T15:24:45Z

I really love this game. It reminds me of Animal Well and Leap Year. Like Leap Year, this game has a very unique jumping mechanic. I also really enjoy the way you find information and the collecting elements. I think it has great potential to become a Metroidvania-style+puzzle game! I haven't fully completed it yet, but once I do, I'll come back to leave another review. What a fun game!

SETI@dream by rubatotree 2026-05-05T15:28:02Z

I finished the game and was genuinely moved. The atmosphere is beautifully romantic, and the music along with the hand-drawn cutscenes really pulled me in. It's hard to believe this was made by one person in 48 hours — the level of polish is impressive. The rhythm gameplay is simple enough that even someone like me, who doesn't play many rhythm games, could get through it. That said, the button timing did feel slightly off from the beat at times, which took a bit of getting used to. Also, a pause button would be really helpful — I had to step away and ended up restarting the game. But these are small things. The overall experience stayed with me. The ending, combined with the music, almost brought me to tears. It's rare for a small game to touch me like that. Great work!

Fire Support Survivors by Zamizmi 2026-05-03T14:48:10Z

A very interesting roguelike + tower defense game. It requires players to think about enemy positions, attack patterns, and signal symbols and make quick decisions in a very short time. Honestly, it's really innovative! I've never played a game like this before — tense, fun, and exciting. Looking forward to seeing this game fully developed and released on Steam!

Stargazer by plutonicrock 2026-04-24T15:22:01Z

A quiet, serene cosmos hiding the songs of distant stars — the whole experience feels like a space opera for the eyes and ears. I absolutely loved the deep blue-purple visuals and the music that accompanies them. The mechanic is simple yet perfectly on theme, and overall it was a wonderful experience to play.

Arc-Lighter by Hs-2300 2026-05-05T15:07:09Z

Played for about an hour, and I really enjoyed it. I died to that yellow circle a few times at first, but later realized I was just being too reckless. What I liked the most was the tension that comes from limited resources — every time I successfully activated a signal, I felt genuinely happy. The background music is a big plus, giving a lonely yet vast feeling, like actually floating in space. I did run out of battery without noticing the meter in the top-left corner, but that small issue doesn’t take away from the overall experience. For a 72-hour game jam, the art and level of polish are quite impressive.

Beakon Fire by Longfall 2026-05-03T14:56:14Z

A relaxing and healing game. I really love the art style and music — it's absolutely adorable.

Under Signals by 13pilgrims 2026-04-21T01:02:24Z

I've fixed the image path issue and added a README document to help players get started. Thanks for playing!

Under Signals by 13pilgrims 2026-04-23T15:32:21Z

@avhatar Thank you so much for playing and for taking the time to share your feedback — it truly means a lot to me.

I completely understand the initial confusion you experienced. I think the main reason is that the game lacked a proper introductory tutorial level, and due to an image path bug, the Quad Panel wasn't displaying the correct visuals at the time you played. On top of that, some of the explanations in the SOP manual were admittedly a bit cryptic.

I've since gone back and fixed these issues. Once again, I really appreciate your feedback — it helped me make the game better. Thanks for playing!

Under Signals by 13pilgrims 2026-04-24T15:39:20Z

@grummelchen Hey there, thank you so much for playing and for the awesome feedback! I want you to know I read every single review, and your suggestions mean a lot to me. Good call on the hidden codes—I totally get why that’d be frustrating at first. I'll definitely look into adding some clearer hints in the description. I'm super happy you liked the visuals and the four-quadrant panel! Also, your idea for the SOP window is spot on; disabling the horizontal scroll makes total sense for a better experience. I'm putting these tweaks on my to-do list, and I'll be sure to ping you as soon as I push an update. Thanks again for your amazing support!

Under Signals by 13pilgrims 2026-04-24T15:40:42Z

@cosmogonicfrog I'm so glad you had a great time with the game! It’s really encouraging to hear that the theme and the fixed-rule deduction clicked for you. I deeply value this kind of detailed testing and feedback from players. You're totally right about the UI bugs—they are incredibly helpful for me to know. I'll admit the manual window’s scrolling has a mind of its own right now, and the ultrawide monitor overlap is definitely something I need to fix so it doesn't break the immersion. I care a lot about making this right. I'm going to work on these UI issues, and I'll make sure to drop you a message when the patch is live. Thank you so much for playing and supporting my work!

Under Signals by 13pilgrims 2026-04-24T15:41:41Z

@prunus-padis "Sorry, Command, I’m just a low-paid employee!" — haha, I absolutely loved reading that! I'm so glad the 'paperwork' aspect ended up being a fun, deciphering experience for you rather than a chore. But jokes aside, I want you to know I take your critiques very seriously. You hit the nail on the head regarding the lack of UI feedback and sound effects; it's a huge blind spot for me, and your advice is incredibly valuable. Adding some audio cues to boost the atmosphere and fixing those annoying scrollbox bugs are my top priorities now. Your feedback really helps me grow as a developer. I'll shoot you a message when the next update goes live with these audio additions and fixes. Thanks for taking the time to understand the rules and for your wonderful support!

Under Signals by 13pilgrims 2026-04-27T15:32:25Z

@longfall Thanks a lot for playing! Really happy you liked the concept. And yeah, the mimcs are a bit hard – 3/5 is solid! I'll think about how to make it clearer. Appreciate the congrats and the feedback!😊

Under Signals by 13pilgrims 2026-04-27T15:38:59Z

I'm back everyone. This update fixes UI soft-locks and drifting, decouples window logic, rebalances puzzles with new tutorials, and refines narrative text length for a smoother experience.

Under Signals by 13pilgrims 2026-05-04T03:57:12Z

@justine-d Wow, thanks for the incredibly detailed feedback! I’m impressed you actually wrote down a 2D table to crack the patterns—that’s the kind of dedication I love to see. You’re actually quite close on the logic! The 'Papers, Please' comparison is a huge compliment, as that was a big inspiration for the atmosphere. I'll definitely look into making those Q3/Q4 clues a bit more intuitive in future iterations. Thanks for playing!

Under Signals by 13pilgrims 2026-05-04T03:57:52Z

@deformhead Thanks a ton! I really tried to nail that specific 'escape room meets bureaucracy' mood, so I’m glad the UI and text resonated with you. It was a lot of work to balance it all, and comments like this make it totally worth it. Cheers!

Under Signals by 13pilgrims 2026-05-04T03:59:18Z

@ochpochpunk Haha, totally fair! A bit of confusion is almost part of the experience, but I’m glad the style kept you intrigued. Thanks for the kind words! I’ve already head over to your page and checked out your project as well. Good luck with the jam!

Under Signals by 13pilgrims 2026-05-04T04:01:05Z

@alec-cunningham Thanks for playing! 'Fascinating but confusing' is a vibe I can live with for a jam game, haha. I'm glad you managed to get the gist of it and had an enjoyable time. Appreciate the support!

@zhangzhimu Thank you so much for playing and for the kind words about the visuals! Really appreciate it!

@meta-link Haha yeah it's a LOT of text — glad you stuck with it and enjoyed the mechanics! Thanks for playing!

Under Signals by 13pilgrims 2026-05-08T06:23:48Z

@ethan-allwood That feeling of not needing the manual anymore is exactly what I was going for. Really glad it clicked for you, thank you so much!

Under Signals by 13pilgrims 2026-05-08T06:25:19Z

@captaindreamcast Vigilant Sentinel first try AND intentional Port Compromised run?? You absolute legend. And yes, that emergency ship was a trap for the over-cautious — you nailed it. This comment made my week, thank you so much!!XD

SCP-███ - Warehouse by FallenQWE 2026-05-04T03:30:38Z

A very immersive horror game — follow the signal to find the cargo. Honestly, it scared me. The game creates a wonderfully absurd and terrifying atmosphere with its towering cargo shelves, opera-like background music, and dim, yellowish lighting. It would be even better if there were ways to avoid the monsters. Also, I think it's really impressive that you've managed to create so many 3D art assets in such a short amount of time.

Signal Loop by SMOLBIGBY 2026-05-06T07:26:53Z

03cda4f53feaf99b166c30a7c3ec8033.png

I beat the game. It's clear that the developer has experience in puzzle design — the puzzles are excellent, and the difficulty curve is very reasonable. However, the enemies moving in different directions across the scenes could be visually distinguished to save players from having to guess their movement patterns. Apart from that, everything else is great. It's hard to believe you made such a high‑quality puzzle game in just two days. Congrats!

Peace : 165 by OasisGreen 2026-05-08T04:43:27Z

Love the somber, immersive atmosphere created by the game's art and sound design — from the heartbeat and ambient noises to the unique oil lamp countdown, every detail pulls you into the emotional world. The narrative writing is especially touching: facing a heavy theme, it never becomes melodramatic but moves you with its longing for peace, family bonds, and light. The idea of using bird calls as guidance feels fresh and original. While the gameplay is still somewhat linear and there are minor interaction bugs. Some settings buttons don't respond, it's impressive how complete and thoughtful the game feels given the 72‑hour development limit. For a first-time game jam, this level of polish is really good. I look forward to future updates that enhance the distinct functions of different birds and deepen the impact of player choices. Great job, and keep it up!

Green & Yellow & Red by w2k 2026-05-08T12:21:40Z

Really interesting and promising mechanic. You have to memorize the positions of colored blocks and complete the level within a time limit. The whole memory‑based level design reminds me of Pizza Tower. It would be even more fun with some tense countdown music and smoother sprite running animations.Btw, the saturation is a bit too high — could tweak that. But for a two‑day game jam project, this is already really solid. Keep it up — looking forward to seeing you refine it further!

LoneSignal by MEME4221 2026-05-08T06:16:10Z

Super short but super cozy – the music and art are just lovely. For a two‑day jam, the art polish is seriously impressive. The frequency‑tuning mechanic in chapter two is cool, though I wish there was a bit more feedback or info to play with. Overall a really nice little experience. Deserves more attention!

Propaganda and Rhetoric by hammeredzombie 2026-05-06T11:16:24Z

ARG puzzle solving across a website is a really interesting idea – I've never played anything like this before. The duck world and the fake news site are charming, and the concept feels fresh. That said, the hints are quite obscure: the wiggly words are random and hard to spot, the in‑game board misled me, and copy‑paste didn't work well in Firefox. I also had no idea what exactly to type at first. Still, once I figured it out, it was a unique and fun experience. Hope the dev expands this into a full game!
