LIGHTDANCER by xk_the_name 2023-10-03T13:01:16Z

Really nice execution on almost everything. Mood is great, sound effects are really good (especially the bow attack), movement feels nice, and the art works well too. The final boss was properly challenging and made use of the mechanic well enough. The only issue I had was with the pacing, which IMO lasted a few bonfires too many without anything new to do, to the point where it got a bit boring in the middle. Other than that, everything else was fine and this was a good entry.

Dead Tire by gentoogames 2023-10-03T10:38:32Z

Pretty impressive that this was done in GMS. The controls are hard to get used to at first but eventually I figured it out. Max score: 3008, although that was reached by just spinning in circles in a green zone

Tunnel Tiler by cogcomp 2023-10-03T20:37:16Z

Nice effort. Perhaps it would be useful to be warned more visibly and for longer before your color switches. I know there's a sound that plays but it seems like too little warning for the most important event in the game. Some flashing on the ship, for instance, would work well. Other than that this was pretty good for only 16 hours + trying out a new library. Nice job!

Amazin' Delivery Service by candlesan 2023-10-03T15:21:16Z

I managed to find myself playing and getting into a flow state easily while listening to a video on the other tab. Very rare that a compo game manages that for me, so really good job on how relaxing and simple it is to play.

Paul Klee, Rich Harbour by Subsage 2023-10-02T21:43:40Z

It's an idea with potential but I think it falters of multiple fronts. The first is that it's essentially a puzzle game, but controlling your dot properly is also part of the challenge because the controls are not tight enough. It would have been served better by better controls for the player since the game is not attempting to be an action game of any kind. The second is that the choice of colors is poor. You could have chosen colors that are more distinct from each other to prevent any kind of visual confusion. And finally, even though it's an idea with potential, this iteration is missing some basic push/pull-risk/reward. Because you can overwrite past paths, the main challenge becomes moving around small patches of undeleted land, which is a really kind of fiddly and kind of boring type of gameplay IMO, and it's also not helped by the loose controls. Overall a nice effort, though.

Nice idea, I liked 2048 a lot and this was a nice attempt inspired by it. There's a serious bug though where tiles can move on top of tiles that just spawned and this makes the game not work properly anymore. I rated as though the bug wasn't there on the game's other merits, but thought it was important to mention this.

Going Up by Human Writes Code 2023-10-02T22:48:58Z

Well thought out and executed game and a good use of the theme. I had trouble at first figuring out how each character related to the grid, but eventually I got used to it and managed to finish it. The voice acting was really really good. Congratulations for making this!

Denpo by Strato 2023-10-02T20:55:37Z

Extremely fun and well executed idea, reminds me of https://play2048.co/ which is also very addicting. Congratulations for making this!

Inside the box by Animaster 2023-10-03T23:07:08Z

There's a really nice idea here that reminds me of games like Recettear in how simple yet inherently interesting they are. However, there are quite a few problems with the way the automatic selection mechanism (the code that decides what will happen when you press the action key, what highlights what object will be interacted with) of objects in the game works. It makes mistakes often and selects the wrong thing, or unselects things that shouldn't be unselected. Other than this everything else is solid, graphics are nice, sounds are nice and the gameplay loop itself is good. Very nice entry!

Just why? by Donitz 2023-10-03T11:45:26Z

I usually don't play these kinds of games but this one got me hooked and I managed to finish it after 123 deaths. Everything about it is really nice. You have a nice mix of easy and hard sections going, the checkpoint system is good and the art is really well done. Probably one of the better compo entries I've played so far. Good job and congratulations for making this!

Bubble Trouble by Thomas_Bringer 2023-10-03T18:48:05Z

I really like the clean visual style and the physics of the bubble feels really nice to play around with. The checkpoint system feels a bit unfair, but I generally don't like these kinds of games so I won't judge it negatively because of a preference. The only thing I think that would go really well is for some visual feedback whenever the player uses the mouse to move the character/bubble, because as it is it feels a bit odd. Other than that this was a pretty good game. Good job!

Floodwater by John Gabriel 2023-10-02T23:12:47Z

Last puzzle was pretty hard and took me like 20 tries. Overall a very nice and solid entry that executed well on what it set out to do, not much else to say.

Robo Rush Hour by michaelaranda 2023-10-03T19:25:45Z

It was very hard for me to get the hang of it first because it was hard to see where the shapes would land exactly, but once I got used to it it was fine from there. Overall a solid entry with nice graphics, sounds, mood, no bugs, and so on. Everything just came together really nicely. Final score: 3032. Good job!

HOLY by mmatt_ugh 2023-10-03T13:22:55Z

Pretty well executed and fun. Not sure if the ammo mechanic adds much to it, but otherwise just a really solid entry. Good job on it!

M8B1674-00D4 by a327ex 2023-10-03T20:38:26Z

@cogcomp It's just a simple timer that gets faster on each level.

Hoverspace by DeltaMain 2023-10-03T19:06:58Z

Very impressive to get a Brotato-like loop going in just 3 days. The idea of buying more space on the shop was also a nice touch to add. A very small thing I would change is that the movement felt a bit too loose, I would increase acceleration/deceleration values a little to make the player control a bit tighter. Other than that there's not much else to say, really good job!

Bullet Spell by Glove 2023-10-03T12:18:27Z

A nice effort, but the audio is way too loud, the choice of effects also doesn't help (they're too direct/raw, which makes them sound even louder) and I didn't find a way to decrease it. Additionally, for these kinds of action games you generally want tight controls, and your controls on the character are making heavy use of acceleration on input and deceleration after input is released, which is fine, but the acceleration/deceleration needs to be way faster than the values you used, otherwise it feels sluggish/laggy. Still, a nice attempt even with those issues.

Harborea by googlypoo 2023-10-02T23:57:49Z

Very nice idea, somewhat similar to mine too. Controls are a bit fiddly sometimes (I think the shape gets stuck somewhere it shouldn't until you grab it again) but other than that a solid effort and a nice entry.

Pong Begrenzt by EqualEnergy 2023-10-02T23:31:06Z

A nice enough twist on a classic. The controls feel very intuitive and the amount of sliding that the paddles have after movement stops feels natural too. I was actually able to play through low visibility debuff most times without issue because the paddle's movement just felt right.

As for some advice, in general when two objects interact with each other (ball -> paddle, ball -> debuff), it's a good idea to do something to visually confirm that interaction. For instance, when the ball hits the paddle, flashing the paddle white for 0.1-0.15 seconds would be a nice effect that confirms the hit and just feels nice to look at.

Two small issues/bugs that are worth nothing too: the score doesn't reset between playthroughs, and sometimes the ball collides twice with the same paddle, this could be fixed by adding a small timer after a collision and not allowing another one to register if the paddle has been hit too recently.

Overall a very nice entry and a good effort. Good job!

InvenStory by pro4 2023-10-03T17:28:04Z

Fairly solid entry, I really like the art style and each level was designed nicely and was challenging enough (I spent a lot of time trying to figure out the boomerang one). One thing I would change is add the ability to rotate shapes by using right-click, that way the game can be played with one hand only. Other than that, good game!

Trashy Space Dice by Sarah Northway 2023-10-03T17:58:40Z

Very interesting idea. As it is it was not very fun to me because it was pretty hard to lose and the actions don't offer much variety, but it's otherwise a really solid entry and there's the core of something good here. Gets 5 stars on innovation from me, it's probably one of the more creative ideas I've played so far. Also "reset all dice heat" really comes in clutch often!

The thing follows your pointer by Sergei11156 2023-10-03T18:58:24Z

The way the blob moves when it gets hit feels really good to look at, so good job on making that work nicely.

As for some advice, in general when two objects interact with each other (player -> ball), it’s a good idea to do something to visually confirm that interaction. For instance, when a ball hits the blob's wall, it moves nicely and create a nice effect that simply feels good to see, so you got it right there. But when the player hits a ball nothing happens. Here you could do things like flashing the player and the ball white for 0.1-0.15 seconds to visually confirm the hit, or spawning some particles, which would serve the same purpose of confirming that interaction and making it look nicer.

Additionally, the way the player moves is too static. Applying some acceleration that follows the mouse's position would look nicer and feel better to control than what's going on now, where it only moves when the mouse is far away enough from the center, which feels kind of unnatural and wrong IMO.

Other than that, a nice entry and a good effort!

Sprinttech by JanOG 2023-10-03T13:48:29Z

I thought the controls felt janky at first but I was surprisingly able to get through most levels just fine (except for the last level which took a lot of tries), and it never felt unfair or wrong, so good job on that. I also really liked the UI style on the first screen. Overall a nice entry!

The Final Moments of Jeffrey Epstein by TeamLDM 2023-10-03T01:03:43Z

An amazing tale with insightful and biting commentary on the harsh realities of private remote islands, unguarded prison cells and the nature of evil itself. This work captures a specific moment in time perfectly and tells its story in the most surprising and daring fashion I've ever witnessed. A true work of art.

Space slug by Normality 2023-10-03T14:10:51Z

It's a nice idea, I really enjoy the heavy pixelated art style and the mood you created for it. I think I eventually understood what had to be done, but to me what mattered more was the slug's movement which was what I was battling with the majority of the time. This is a kind of a management-ish game, and IMO having action-physics type of movement be the primary way to interact with things works at cross purposes with the game. This is only my opinion, of course, but you either want to explore the management side of the game and make that the best it can be, or the go for the action side of it. There are probably ways to manage to mix both together, but this iteration didn't work for me. A really nice and solid effort though, and again, I really really like the art style you have going on here, so super good job on that!

MY LIL WIZARD by doinksoft 2023-10-03T00:17:50Z

Very cool and an impressive amount of work put into it for only 3 days. A Super Crate Boxed VS-like would probably work well as an actual full game  My favorite weapon was the Guided Wand
