a good Vampire-like Survivor game
Interesting use of the theme! Love the Brotato inspiration. Well done!
Arena shrinks to nothing at wave 5, couldn't play any further. I was having fun too!
Good and simple game loop that is fun to keep playing.
Pluses: * 3 enemy types, each with different and unique behavior that all contribute to influencing how the player reacts, was a solid decision * High fire rate make gun go brrrrrr
Some possible improvements: * It's not obvious what "armor" actually does - my first playthrough I tried to max that but no matter what the enemies did 1 damage to me per hit. Reducing my armor below zero didn't result in taking any more damage, so I just min-maxed fire rate and damage
* It felt like boosting health is a bad perk to take because it only increases max health, rather than current health. Since repairs are so costly, I found myself happy with only 4-5 hp at a time and focusing on damage and crit chance. Perhaps the health boosts should come with "free" health, and also reduce repair cost, or something to that effect.
Still I played for far longer than I care to admit - nicely done! ehka.JPG
@kerrindor you can increase room size in shop menu, so you won't get crushed!
@olenikimid Thanks for your feedback! I did some tests, and figured out that armor is almost useless rn and should be rebalanced.
Really fun game. Loved the shrinking arena, really drove the theme home. The 150 ROF upgrade seems nuts but overall really cool game.
pleasant gaming experience, decent graphics and sounds but, as for me, It would be great to make the game terms more understandable if finalized :)
Intresting game! I like the upgrading part and all the stats you can improve, although armor was the only thing i really didn't figure out what it does. Overall a fun game, i like it!
@deltamain about getting crushed , if you don't increase room size , the space will be so tiny that you get ejected from it . you can't move and all the ennemies will spawn at the same point in space .
I ended up buying mostly useful upgrades and died when the first projectile zombie came. The store system was good, I liked how you had to choose between buying more hp or space. Whole player movement and shooting system felt really smooth to me, overall a nice experience
Very impressive to get a Brotato-like loop going in just 3 days. The idea of buying more space on the shop was also a nice touch to add. A very small thing I would change is that the movement felt a bit too loose, I would increase acceleration/deceleration values a little to make the player control a bit tighter. Other than that there's not much else to say, really good job!
Accidentally made my Damage -2 which made it harder to play. Fun though
I made it to wave 14 :) yay
Really nice arena shooter! I really liked the tradeoffs you had to make between keeping your health up, the arena not too small and upgrading your weapon!
The pickup sound was also very satisfying. With different types of upgrades this could be really awesome, but for three days that's already super super nice! Good job.
Overall I really enjoyed this game and I wish it had more content so I could play it more!
Hope you had a nice jam and maybe check out my game as well, if you like. It's an arena-shooter as well :3
Yaay! Brotato 2 was released finally!
This was a lot of fun! You did a great job making a simple, but super satisfying game. The sound effects, little flashes and explosions of stuff when you killed an enemy really gave this a very satisfying feel. The art and music were also on point! I also really liked the upgrade system. You had to balance your money on a lot of things, such as upgrading, healing or increasing the playing area, making the decisions very meaningful. Each upgrade also felt impactfull and it was fun to try abd go for a certain build. I do feel the rate of fire is kind of OP though XD One thing that was not so clear to me was how the boost worked. It somehow boosts you towards the mouse, but I did not really understand why I would want that.
The difficulty scaling is also really good, with new enemies introduced and extra health and all that. I think this was just a very good and polished game. Really well done! :D
A very polished game for just 3 days. I like the idea of space being a resource that you can purchase, or sacrifice for more upgrades.
Only critique was that it wasn't immediately clear that boost would move in the direction of your cursor, especially since you're using WASD for movement when not boosting.
Other than that, more enemy types and maybe variety in the arena and I think you're on to a winner.
Fun game! I ended up clipping out of the arena when the area went negative which ended the run, but other than that it was a lot of fun to play! I liked the upgrades, although it felt like at some points they were cancelling each other out somewhat. Difficulty curve seemed good, and there was a nice variety of enemy types :)
yes, this is still fun to play, but it would be much better if you made more independent game, not following some "BROTATO" stuffs ; I read what you wrote on your post, but to be honest to what I felt.
@surune Btw the only thing that resembles brotato is art style of money and enemies. My game is fully independent from anything else, all the mechanics are unique. I Should've stated that more clearly I guess ;)
Good fit for the theme, really enjoyed the game. Do think the collection of tokens were a little buggy. Good game!
funny, fun, simple. nice game, interesting visuals of enemies. it's a pity that my hovercraft looks the worst graphically, when everything else is very nice.
great entry
This game was exciting, definitely the game I played for the longest so far, with just sheer, "how can I get further". With that said I was able to reach wave 20. The enemies were well thought out and I enjoyed all of the mechanics, minus boost (I might not be dexterous enough to effectively use it) and armor (already pointed out). The art, audio, controls, and shop system are all pretty top notch for 72 hours of development.
With that said, a couple points of feedback. The currency didn't always visually pickup, loved the sound it made though. This was a small bug and didn't really get in the way of gameplay. From a balancing perspective, after wave 12-ish the scaling of everything costing more in the shop mixed with the oppressive amount of arena shrinkage gets to the point where you are forced into repairing and increasing arena size to progress, without even looking at potential other upgrades. Not that it fully matters if you get a lucky start, you can one shot all enemies for the rest of the game if you get enough damage ups early on. Scaling enemy strength/health rather than just number spawned on later levels could be an interesting avenue. I would like to see armor implemented in an impactful way so that you can scale the cost of repairing based on how much armor you have, and have it so that repairing doesn't arbitrarily jump in cost every few waves like the upgrades and room space. Then it would be possible to weigh forgoing health for that juicy upgrade. In addition it felt like the currency gain curve fell off with the exponential style growth of room size cost doubling and also shrinking by a larger factor every round.
In all, these are my opinions, slightly nit-picky because this game already feels so polished and I enjoyed playing it a great deal.
AMAZING game for the Jam. I had a lot of fun and would be stoked to play an updated version!
@liquidcrafty Thanks for playing my game! It's really nice to read constructive feedback, I appreciate it! There is definetely a lot of room for improvement, especially with game balance, as you pointed out.
Came back to see how my favourite and memorable games from the jam did in ratings. Congrats on coming this far!
Also, reading through some comments here again I realized something: I never bought anything with boost in this game, because I didn't know what it was... Maybe I have to give this game another try :D
