Got stunlocked and crushed on my first run ... but I got revenge!

EpicPen_Uvd2vUBKHo.png

Here's some gameplay footage of me playing (badly):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVhW59m_qVs

I had fun on this one, it reminded me of a game I used to play as a child called Icy Tower :) Took me a while to figure out that you can smash blocks when you have enough power. That's a really cool feature.

The graphics and music were nice. I like the "bonk" sound when you get hit on the head with a block, hehe. The bats were too mean tho :(

Not quite sure if there is a grace period after you leave a platform, when you can still jump, but I feel like there isn't and it would probably help the gameplay quite a lot. I think it's sometimes called "Coyote Time", because of Wiley Coyote hovering in the air over a cliff? Anyways, if there is a grace period, I'm sorry.

Overall I really enjoyed playing this game and it is something I can see myself coming back to. Really nice effort on this jam - I hope you had a great time, too. Maybe give my game a try, if you like.

Untitled Dwarf Game by lekiy 2023-10-03T13:02:10Z

I think you have to include the .pck file that godot makes, otherwise people can't play the game.

If I try to start the game, if gives me the following error:

"Error:Couldn't load projectdata at path ".".Is the .pck file missing? If you've renamed the executable, the associated .pck file should also be renamed to match the executable's name (without the extension)."

would love to try your game :)

EDIT: apperantly there's an option in the export screen of Godot, where you can click "include pck" or something similar - maybe check that if you haven't yet.

MemGuard Tower Defence by Zaphire 2023-10-03T09:03:40Z

Neat little tower defense :) I liked that you had the choice to disconnect towers and use a different one for the wave, if you wanted. I haven't really seen that done in tower defense games usually. If there'd by different types of enemies, that you need certain towers for, that would be really cool.

I had a weird bug(?) on my first time playing where the first enemies just didn't die. At all. I then struggled with memory capacity and died. On my second play I made it all the way through to having all towers connected.

Overall a really cool concept - one I would really like to see expanded on. I hope you had a good jam :) Maybe give my game a try, if you like!

Warehouse 2319 by Silas Reinagel 2023-10-06T14:57:43Z

Saw your comment about having less than 20 ratings still, so I came over :3

Just finished playing and wow! What a great entry! Everything has a lot of polish. Got some stanley parable going on as well.

I especially enjoyed the writing and the very time-period appropriate themes. There were of course a couple of bugs, like getting stuck on geometry, I fell through the stairs at the end once and I think if you leave a room before the day ends, the trigger for the meeting doesn't happen (?) so you have to reenter and leave again. Then again, if you leave before your workday is over, you should of course be fired, replaced and possibly executed on the spot.

The music during the workdays was very nice as well and captured that dead, soulcrushing, empty "nothing-music" of the corporate world perfectly.

The graphics were simple but effective. I wish the markings on the boxes would've been a little clearer. I'm not colorblind, but have some troubles with perception of certain shades and I think you managed to hit those. Since I don't think that was a statement about the able-ism in the modern workplace, I think upping the contrast would be good :) (both in value and in hue)

Overall this is my favorite entry so far! Great job. I hope yall had a great jam and didn't overwork yourselves :)

Also here's my speedrun of the game:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3P_581_P-a8

I think no one else has done that yet, so imma call it world record :3

Warehouse 2319 by Silas Reinagel 2023-10-22T13:03:05Z

Came back to see how my favourite games from the jam did in ratings. Congrats on being comfortably in the top third :) You really got something here, would love to see more of it

Next Station by Vinicius Veronese 2023-10-03T14:47:57Z

Very cool idea :)

next_station_Pr80VEN7GJ.png

I tried drag'n'drop in the beginning and I though it was just buggy until I realized you click once to pickup and once to set down. As others have said it maybe was a little too easy to fit people in there, so maybe the train could be made much smaller.

With that in mind, the game has a lot going for it. The music is relaxing and feels like something that could play in a waiting area at the trainstation, haha. Graphics are simple, but that is just so fitting for the little blockpeople!

Overall I enjoyed the concept and would like to see the game again after some balancing - this could be a nice realxing puzzle game :3

I hope you enjoyed the jam and maybe you can give my game a try, if you like :)

Loot Goblin by Tudvari 2023-10-04T16:44:58Z

Great idea, I really liked it! I thought it was cool that you didn't fight anything, so you didn't have to worry about dealing damage or anything :) I'd love to see this with some more effects that can happen to you, like maybe slowness, poison or similar stuff that affects the looting. Maybe luck potions?

The music was very chill and fitting and I liked the simple artstyle.

Also it was nice, that you prevented the player from going into the dungeon without purchasing anything at first.

LootGoblin_Q1okYAcTTa.png

Overall very nice entry, I enjoyed it a lot. Hope you had fun during the jam and maybe give my game a try if you haven't yet. I haven't made it to 20 votes yet either <3

Loot Goblin by Tudvari 2023-10-22T13:13:51Z

Came back to see how my favourite games from the jam did in ratings. Congrats on the great score! :)

Samurai Smash by Akadream 2023-10-03T09:44:22Z

Cool game! The super simple artstyle really fits this genre.

I had lots of trouble beating the AI and did not manage to get 5 points against it, heh. The blocking was kinda hard to time. Is there an indicator for when you can parry? Sometimes the shield went golden, and I had a free attack on the enemy, but I didn't really understand how to time it correctly.

Music was simple, which I like, because complicated beats tend to distract me in these types of games and I just end up muting it, so that was nice.

I wasn't able to test Local multiplayer, but the other two gamemodes work nicely.

Overall I enjoyed it even tho it is not my type of game. I really hope you had a good jam and didn't overwork yourself. Maybe give my game a try if you like :3

P.S.: I would've really liked a pixel-art logo for the title screen :3

Samurai Smash by Akadream 2023-10-22T13:19:54Z

Came back to see how some of the more memorable games from the jam did. I was really surprised to see that not many people rated this :( It was a really well executed game, even if it wasn't the most innovative..

You still made something really cool and that's a nice reward, too. Followed you on itch and hope to see more, yay~

Squeeze Play by LanceJZ 2023-10-02T22:44:59Z

The download (and/or embed?) doesn't seem to work right now - I'll leave the tab open and try again later :)

Not sure if it's a problem on my end, yours, or this website. Screenshots look cool tho

Squeeze Play by LanceJZ 2023-10-03T07:56:57Z

Thank you for updating the download :) I got a chance to play it now.

First question after coming back to the game-page is: is holding down spacebar supposed to shot continuously? I ask because the preview gif on this page makes it seem like that there is a rapid-fire button, however holding down space doesn't do that for me? Maybe you are just good at button-mashing :)

Secondly, I enjoyed the concept and I feel like with a little polish, the walls could feel really menacing!

The controls felt really nice - a lot of times in these type of games your ship goes flying off whenever your get too much speed, so I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't. Weather it's velocity-dependent damping or just a max-speed ... I liked it.

Wish I could shoot the bullets of the second type of enemy tho >:(

Overall I enjoyed the concept, however I wish there was more "meat" to the game.

(P.S. It's really impressive how much this was made from scratch from what I can gather. Did you use your own engine? damn. Anyways, I appreciated the stretching of "from scratch", because a lot of people take many engine features for granted)

Hope you had a nice jam and maybe check out my game, if you like!

Slime Dungeon by pikachurian 2023-10-03T13:22:24Z

I want the slime! I need the slime! Please upload the game :)

Multiplosphere by Ausstein 2023-10-03T12:02:23Z

Very nice game :)

Graphics and music are really good and fitting! My Highscore was 95.031

Unfortunately I have a bug on my end where the mouse sensitivity is extremely high. Changing it in windows doesn't change it ingame for me, so it was really hard to do much, as I was spinning out of control most of the time.

The surrounding space scene was really cool. I don't know how the cube fits into this lore-wise, but it somehow felt right, haha.

I enjoyed getting upgrades and becoming more powerful - wish I could've played more, but the mouse issue made it too hard for me. If this is fixed I would come back and try it again for sure.

Hope you had a fun jam! :3

Multiplosphere by Ausstein 2023-10-03T12:21:55Z

@ausstein I can't change my DPI I think, or if I can, I'm not sure how as I've been on a backup mouse for a while now.

Settings always fall through the cracks for me as well - a mute button was on my mind for three days, but it never got done sadly.

Oh well, I was still able to enjoy your game a lot, even with cursed sensitivity.

HeadSpace Limited by Im not a robot 2023-10-03T09:49:25Z

@greynovembergames *hijacks your television signal*

@redoxeide thank you :)

@favoured-fool Yay, I'm glad you like the sound - it was my first time making music on the computer. And the from scratch part: Processing has some drawing and graphics-buffer swapping built it, so it isn't hard getting something drawn on screen at least :) But yea, the rest - including datastructures for efficiently calculating collisions - was made by me. I'm glad you appreciate it <3

HeadSpace Limited by Im not a robot 2023-10-03T12:08:48Z

@favoured-fool I chose Processing, because I've been using it for many years now and am very used to it. Also I don't really do well in engines with lots of menus, submenus, subsubmenus etc... Although I've looked a little at Godot and it looks more fitting for me. Once Godot4 has support for web-export in C#, I'll check it out.

I think Processing is a really good stepping-stone for game making. From it you can advance to an engine or go more in the direction of pure programming, if you're into that. If you are already at that stage I think it can be very helpful for extremely quick prototyping and testing simple algorithms. It's also good for quickly getting graphics on the screen. I think it's a great environment to learn in.

HeadSpace Limited by Im not a robot 2023-10-03T13:52:26Z

@magic-mike thank you for the feedback! And yea, I had trouble with the theme, but the idea was that your memories are fading because there's only limited space in your head... stretching it a little thin, I know haha

HeadSpace Limited by Im not a robot 2023-10-06T09:43:58Z

@tudvari Thank you for playing :) There are 10 levels and a display for that was on my mind until the very end, but with 30 minutes left on the clock, I never managed to cram it in. On the bullets you are also right and that one just slipped my mind, all it would've taken was a different color - woups.

Thank you for the feedback and glad you enjoyed it

HeadSpace Limited by Im not a robot 2023-10-11T12:25:29Z

@thecaptainbuster , @rene , @yellowkamel , @its-capp , @egormnc , @nicolasjl9 Thank you for playing! :)

@alfred-clark Really glad you like it and especially that you enjoyed the enemies attacking the blobs/memories/neurons/whatever :D

@hofendrior I only managed to do that myself once - the Power! upgrade helps, but it's kinda *eh* in lategame

@cam-moore glad you liked it - and I still have no clue what causes that bug. I've started the game probably hundreds of times in development and it never happened

@lancejz glad you liked the music :) Since it way my fist time doing something like that and it turned out kinda well, I am really proud of it, yay

@badcop , @deltamain , @vikatoria good job saving da kitty

@nicoleta thank you for playing :) The backgrounds were all done on the last day and truthfully a little rushed. Some of the noisier ones do make it pretty hard to see, you are right. Glad you had fun anyway!

@neeko69 thanks! Isaac was definitively a big inspiration.

@ausstein glad you could dig it up :) And thank you again for playing

---

Thanks again to everyone who played and commented, it was really nice getting a lot of feedback and kind words. I had a lot of fun making this, a lot of fun getting critiqued and doing the same with other peoples games :3

Was this game made for the jam, or just the "limited space" map?

Captain Jove’s Treasure Trove by Spice Cabinet 2023-10-03T13:19:03Z

I enjoyed the artstyle of this game :)

here's a video of me playing the game:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJsR1lpEcvs

Yea.. I wasn't really sure how to be good at this game :/ I enjoyed the idea of it and the art (both graphics and visuals), but didn't really get it. I feel like this game has a lot of potential tho!

The controls felt right and it was fun to dodge the enemies bullets (sometimes)

Overall great effort! I hope you enjoyed your time jamming. Maybe give my game a try, if you like.

Chopz by Hofendrior 2023-10-03T09:24:58Z

I made a mess of a village

LDJam54_7Z4rYbP1hZ.png

I enjoyed the simplicity of this and it reminded me of early-alpha minecraft days (and not the chopping trees part). Just the quiet loneliness of the world - just imagining how large this forest could actually be...

Actually, be right back, imma try to reach the edge!

Ok, it's not that large. Also turns out you can place houses in the void

LDJam54_7FBi99Ygsu.png

Anyways - my point was that starting out in this game feels very lonely, but in a good way. When I first encountered the edge and saw the gray I thought "these must be mountains". I'd like if there were mountains :)

I'd really like to see this game expanded on and I hope you had a nice jam. Great effort for your first 3D game. Maybe give my game a try, if you like :3

Gravity Warp by RMHeuer 2023-10-02T23:02:13Z

Really cool concept! I love how the background changes direction too, when you switch gravity! Chonky sounds and nice relaxing music that is somehow tense at the same time - very fitting for a puzzle game.

I also liked the simple pixelart.

I must admit that I didn't get too far in the game... I have trouble telling left from right and when everything is backwards and upside-down I get super confused. The last level that I played had a bunch of the blue smiley-squares in a box.

One thing I wasn't really able to figure out was what direction will be next when I hit spacebar. I know it is influenced by the proximity to walls, but it still didn't really behave for me. Sometimes it seemed random and that was frustrating. Maybe there could be some sort of indicator on the robot or somewhere else on the screen.

Overall it was a cool game. I enjoyed the time I spent in it :) Hope you had a nice jam.

Sneak 100 by Noirox 2023-10-04T09:52:33Z

Very nice mood :) I like the lighting and the simplicity of the tileset.

Also I found a bug where you can softlock on top of this crate:

Sneak100_aUqJyefhnZ.gif

Endscreen reminds me of the ending of portal 2

Hope you had a nice jam and maybe give my game a try, if you like

Profound Tribulations Arise from the Pursuit of a Decadent Fool by Cam Moore 2023-10-03T13:32:04Z

I escape :>

EpicPen_Vk21Iw4U9v.png

Very cute game! The gameplay works (even tho you bug into walls sometimes) and the visuals and lyrics are just great. What a lovely little game :)

I'll count the reasoning of limited space in the escape pipe towards points in humor ;) Unless... if you're too thicc, you can't fit in the pipe? That would be amazing!

Overall lovely and cute game that I enjoyed and that made me laugh, thank you. If you like, you can try my game as well.

Hope you had a nice jam!

Profound Tribulations Arise from the Pursuit of a Decadent Fool by Cam Moore 2023-10-22T13:05:19Z

Dodge ! by Guerif 2023-10-03T08:48:05Z

I'd like to give this game a try! How can the second player join the game?

Dodge ! by Guerif 2023-10-03T10:02:53Z

@magic-mike alright, I didn't think it would be that easy! I played it with my gf and we had fun! I beat her 3 times in a row.

I like the concept and the simplicity of it. I often get overwhelmed in PvP games, but this was nice. Sadly it seemed that spamming bullets was the best strategy, although that might not be true if people with other playstyles play it. Maybe the forcefield could actually crush you if it gets too small? That would deter people from spamming maybe.

Both the artstyle and the music was really chill and the sound effects were satisfying :)

Overall I enjoyed giving this game a try! Great effort of you three. Maybe you can give my game a try, if you like <3

Homeonaut by Its_Capp 2023-10-04T19:09:29Z

I did it!!!

HomeoNaut_Ai3SZQUA1o.png

Very cool concept, I have never seen a game that works like this before.

The movement felt good and responsive and it was fun to bash through enemies - although the endboss seemed to die way too fast. I spawned and 1 second later it was dead. Would've loved some more there.

The music was engaging, but chill enough to not stress me out too much and the graphics were clear.

I also really liked the tutorial. Most of the time I hate text based info-dumps, but this felt cute and quirky and it worked. I never saw a golden apple tho. Maybe that would've appeared in the boss level if I didn't dunk on it?

Overall a super solid entry with the mechanic of the screen-shifting elevating it to the next level. Super cool. Hope y'all had a fun jam and didn't overwork yourself too much <3

the ship by TailsGameDev 2023-10-03T14:37:45Z

Good idea for a game :) I enjoyed it quite a bit and I wished there were more levels to play (I played through twice)

The controls were weird, but felt pretty good actually.

Of course there aren't really any graphics to critique, but I do enjoy a good minimal game - maybe some super chill ambient tracks could go nicely with it? Or maybe the exact opposite and have the soundtrack very busy.

Overall I enjoyed playing your game. I hope you had a nice jam and maybe you can give my game a try as well :3 It's also pretty minimal, but of course not as much as yours ;)

Hoverspace by DeltaMain 2023-10-04T17:06:39Z

I made it to wave 14 :) yay

Really nice arena shooter! I really liked the tradeoffs you had to make between keeping your health up, the arena not too small and upgrading your weapon!

The pickup sound was also very satisfying. With different types of upgrades this could be really awesome, but for three days that's already super super nice! Good job.

Overall I really enjoyed this game and I wish it had more content so I could play it more!

Hope you had a nice jam and maybe check out my game as well, if you like. It's an arena-shooter as well :3

Also, reading through some comments here again I realized something: I never bought anything with boost in this game, because I didn't know what it was... Maybe I have to give this game another try :D

Limited Spaces by adrmille 2023-10-03T08:09:14Z

Interesting game idea :3

I liked the idea of this (almost) turn-based concept. Kinda cheesed the game tho - after some trial and error I just turned once, turned up the Strength to like 200, jumped and then repeated this once more when the ship was pointing past the rectangle. So I got to the end with 2.8 energy left!

firefox_Pp4DLBSFzg.png

Maybe the energy should decrease more, if the jump strength is higher? idk. Also the ship never exploded for me - I just couldn't jump anymore when I had too little energy.

Another small thing: maybe the "front" of the character could be indicated somehow? If you turn for a while and maybe bounce around the level, you kinda lose track of where you are pointing.

Anyways. Hope you had a nice jam and are not too burned out. Maybe give my game a try if you like :)

Bit Golf by badcop 2023-10-04T10:30:20Z

Very cool game :) I really enjoyed it, although I mostly got 1 or 2 stars in everything. I don't think I ever got 3.

How did you come up with the points needed for stars? I know there's like a lower limit for possible compression, but surely you can not reach that here - did you just try around and estimate or do you have some heuristic?

Anyways, lovely idea, great execution. The artstyle fits the game perfectly. If I had to nitpick something, it would be a lack of variety in music.

Hope you had a nice jam and maybe give my game a try, if you haven't yet :)

I'm getting the following error when trying the game:

"*The following component(s) are required to run this program:*

*Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime*"

Also Windows does not like this .exe and doesn't want me to execute it.

Using the download from gDrive gives the same error, but with an option to install the missing files. The install was stuck for quite a while, but then the installation seemed to work fine.

I restarted my PC and tried running the exe from the gDrive download again. This time it gave me the following error:

"*Couldn't start:*

*'C:\ _[pathToYourGame]_ \SPACENERDZ\Binaries\Win64\SPACENERDZ-Win64-Shipping.exe' SPACENERDZ*

*CreateProcess() returned 2.*"

I don't know how to resolve this issue unfortunately. If you do, please let me know, as I would like to try your game.

LimitedSpace-STATION by Eli Heinrichs 2023-10-09T11:48:11Z

Cute game :) I enjoyed the artwork and music.

That black cloud (?) really scared me the first time it happened.

I wished there was more that I, as the player, could do, to add some variety. Something like fighting or movement abilities, that maybe cost some oil/O2.

Hope you enjoyed your jam and didn't overwork yourselves. Congrats on getting 20 votes. Maybe give my game a try if you like.

firefox_suANViKPL5.png

I don't really understand the necromancer.. I have all the things it wants it seems but the yield is 0.1?

Anyways, it's pretty late now and I gotta go to bed haha. The game is really nice and simple but addicting! At first I was kinda throwing curses at the game, because I didn't understand it, but once I fifgured it out it was a lot of fun.

I think a small tutorial would help immensly

Hope you had fun in the jam and maybe check out my game if you like :)

Red Zone by TheCaptainBuster 2023-10-03T15:45:27Z

My final score:

Red_Zone_nf20PDAwOL.png

Have anyone beat that!

Good job and great effort for a first gamejam. There's even sound and a help-page, wow.

I liked the pixelart of the fruit and the health potion - everything was clearly communicated. I had a small bug(?) where when I collected my fifth banana the red-zone went away for a few seconds, but then it came back...

Maybe you can try expanding on this concept or improve on the next iteration :3

I hope you had a nice jam and maybe check out my game if you like (leaving feedback and giving hearts gets more people to your game, that can give you additional feedback btw)

Red Zone by TheCaptainBuster 2023-10-22T13:12:32Z

Space Escape by Gryzlaw 2023-10-03T10:36:30Z

Unfortunately I cannot progress :(

Every time I start the game, I get some random arrangement of planets it seems, but I can't interact with them. I then go to this screen: Where I can place blocks. However at some point the grid is full and I can't place any more blocks.

EpicPen_IOtrQpR5wN.png

Is there any way to progress from this point, because it seems like I'm hardlocked here and have to restart?

I tried placing as many as I can, to see if it had some trigger on the number of blocks, but wasn't able to progress.

Any help would be appreciated - I love resource management games and would like to play yours :)

Hope you had a good jam, give my game a try if you like!

Boxed In by raassh23 2023-10-04T19:41:27Z

Really simple, but very fun game. I played it on desktop and sadly I was extremely terrible at the game :D my highscore is 15.

Of course there isn't much to say about the graphics, but they are exactly what they need to be for a game like this in my opinion.

One critique I have is that sometimes you just get wrecked by something that appears from the edge of the screen and immediately crashes into your butt, so maybe some sort of indicator 1 second or 0.5 seconds before that would be nice?

Other than that I enjoyed the game and it would go great with some added music.

Overall really fun and a great entry for the jam. I hope you had fun making this (btw, this was the first game I've ever seen that was made in Construct)

Illusion by Vikatoria 2023-10-07T10:39:09Z

Cute game with nice music. Very good job for a first game - it is playable and you don't get stuck anywhere, so that's way more than I can say for my first game.

The opening screen has very nice separation between foreground and background, so if the levels were like this, it would easier to see where you can jump.

I'm not really sure, if I played through the whole game? I jumped into the sun.

The pixel art was very cute, maybe if you do another game with it, try making every artwork have the same "pixel size" once in the game. it can make the game look much more coherent.

Overall great job for your first game made in only 3 days! Hope you had fun and didn't overwork yourselves in the jam. And thank you for playing my game :)

Mothership by Waschi 2023-10-03T08:43:18Z

Really fun game! I made it through the upgrade tree on my third attempt :) Here's the score I had on that game:

firefox_ABKWsbppPu.png

The upgrades were nicely balanced and I liked that you had to weigh, which side of the tree is more important in the moment.

The graphics look really nice, especially that green planet(?) that the ship is circling. Everything felt "correct" while playing: The controls, the physics, the tether to the mothership. Maybe a tiiiny but more acceleration, if I had to nitpick.

I just wish there was more to the game, so I could play more :P

Overall really well done! Hope you had a nice jam and didn't overwork yourself. Maybe give my game a try, if you like :3

"We couldn't find your page"

Maybe your itch page is still set to private or draft? I'd love to give this game a try

It seems like this game was made in June and not for Ludum Dare.. sooo.. idk.

Interesting idea :) I'm super bad at memory games and fast reading, sooo.. maybe not the best game for me personally, haha.

I like that the cues are communicated via post it notes.

There's probably an audience for this game, if it is polished up a little with music and some office-sfx (keyboard sounds, coughing etc :3)

I hope you had fun during the jam and maybe you can try my game, too, if you like.

Fun resource gathering game :) Music was very nice, if a little short to be on repeat. I enjoyed the sound effects and graphics as well.

The controls were a little strange at first, but then I got used to them. I abandoned all keys except W and just used my mouse for steering.

It was cool to get on rockets and fly to different areas of the map, that was a neat idea!

Overall very cool entry for this jam. I hope you all had fun making it - maybe give my game a try, if you like. I'm a few votes away from 20 as well :3
