LD54 — Limited Space

Wellslide by Alfred Clark 2023-10-03T15:28:13Z

@im-not-a-robot Thank you for the comment and video! Those gosh darn bats. I do have coyote-time implemented for both wall jumping and regular jump, yeah, but an extra 0.05s would have probably been an improvement!

@locke8 Thank you so much for the comment! That's a great score! Yeah the block breaking wasn't in until a few hours before the deadline, I'm glad it all came together

Terminal Noise by fusionnist 2023-10-06T11:50:30Z

Huge fan of this. Got just over halfway, will be coming back to complete. It's such a fun experience figuring out what everything does and how the spaces relate. Amused myself by smashing a hole all the way back to the first level, which also helped me grok the space a bit more. All of the theming is super clean and works perfectly. Great work!

St. Valdez by IvanPavlov 2023-10-05T23:32:52Z

Best punching bag in videogames. Felt fun to move around in, made me laugh when I realized how to escape. Great visuals and storybook cutscenes. Good job!

HeadSpace Limited by Im not a robot 2023-10-03T14:23:53Z

Identity Saved! A great little twin stick. Stacking upgrades to feel like you're breaking the game was super fun.

Having multiple points to defend gave the feeling of darting from one thing to another and worrying that you were missing something. Combined with the nostalgic images in the background, it worked really well to communicate the theme. Great job!

Rafty Crab by kuviman 2023-10-05T22:13:03Z

Played a couple of times with twitch groups, it's just a fantastic game. I'll be using it to settle disputes in future for sure :)

Skybacon inc. by Dekajoo 2023-10-05T19:15:53Z

Really neat little puzzler with fun theming and great level of polish, great job! I enjoyed my time playing :)

Towerfull by Brainloaf Studio 2023-10-05T10:25:57Z

This was an excellent tower defense game! Very little to criticize. I also had the issue of not understanding how the portals worked exactly, so maybe that needed to be more explicit in the tutorial. Once I understood that the game made a lot more sense. Absolutely love the presentation, art, music, humour... I also really like leaning into the constant rearranging of towers and have towers refunded for their full cost, it let me be more iterative with my play. Great work.

edit: Oh! Also had the same issue of not exactly realizing what constituted 'winning' a level, but obviously the kind of thing that gets fixed when you're not working to a 72 hour deadline

Crow Keeper by Matthew Bond 2023-10-06T10:44:39Z

crow :)

Great job on this, it's a very fleshed out game and works really well! Really impressive.

Sowscraper by Teto 2023-10-05T10:58:27Z

This is an excellent project, the presentation is on point, lots of variety in the way the plants are played, quotas are tight, and the story is effective. No notes. Super impressive!

Limit at Infinity by APG 2023-10-05T16:48:00Z

Other people have already commented on the slightly confusing onboarding (although the instructions on your page now i think totally work), but I absolutely love the idea of this game; it's the only game from the jam that I've saved to my "inspirations" board so far. The theming and pixelart is just so appealing, and I love this kind of management game. Fun to spend time figuring out how best to lay out defensive towers and resources, save up for spawners, etc. Great job, I would love to play a more developed version of this in the future.

Make Room by spooncats 2023-10-03T20:08:50Z

Love the vibe of this game, really good idea floating soft little beans in to a bucket :) I struggled a bit getting levels 3 and 4 to register what i thought was the intended solution. I'd also say the pull strength should be higher on larger cubes; I couldn't move the big cube at all once it was inside the bucket. Overall it's a great entry. The faces and sounds are a great touch :)

Dante's Reinterpretation by Locke8 2023-10-03T15:52:20Z

Very cool bullet hell, I really like the circle size and player health being tied together, it felt very tense any time I started losing health! It was smooth sailing until a particular level where two new enemy types were introduced at once and I got absolutely trashed! It might be good to have a little more fine-grained control over the player's position and slightly more forgiving hitboxes for evading bullets. Others have commented on game juice so I'll spare you ;) but this has the bones of a great game! Great job!

Suck it to Them! by AmberFall92 2023-10-06T11:08:38Z

This is such a great game! Great work across every category, love the innovative central mechanic. The game doesn't overstay its welcome, but I definitely felt "done" by the time the waves ended. Great effects when you take damage, but I wasn't actually aware of how much health I had at any point. Would love to see these mechanics explored with specific challenges and level design. Love it!

Bimbi's Cosmo Party by Frib 2023-10-05T23:12:36Z

Played with a stream, really impressed with all the work that must have gone into this. Loads of character and fun games. Would love to get the chance to play in a party setting

LazerPhaser by EvilMurlock 2023-10-06T11:21:35Z

Just played single player but love the idea of playing these levels in a 'race' format, I see how it would feel manic in versus haha. Charming art and sounds, too. Great job!

Unlimited Space Shawarma by SID37 2023-10-03T19:53:52Z

Saved :relieved: really cool game, great atmosphere, great visuals, delicious shawarma. Lots of cool touches like the wall scribbling. Rescue came sort of fast compared to my hunger meter - I think I only ate like 4 things, so limited the amount of actual choices, but still worked really well for jam conditions. Great work!

Blazing Moon by Hi_Names_Nat 2023-10-04T17:11:42Z

Great job with this project. I really love the billboard illustrations for the characters, they're pleasing to the eye and very charming. The writing is also quite strong, especially the setting and the more "vague" parts; the writer could do well working on Dark Souls style ambiguous game storytelling. The experience was held back by engine-side problems like wood textures reflecting light with default material settings and weird camera blur of the main character, along with gameplay elements that give the player very little feedback (combat, burning trees.) On the other hand, it's impressive to have so many features and solid dialogue working in the time constraint. Often with big engines like Unreal a chunk of dev time needs to go to switching default features *off* to get a consistent look  Overall, great job, there are a lot of good elements to this, you should be proud of your good work! :)

Bag Bail! by CorvusBot 2023-10-05T18:17:45Z

A great game with excellent art. I found the scoring a bit distracting, as it seemed to be incentivising me to smash everything at first. Clambering up the pile of stuff and jump-attacking the spike balls and such was really fun though. Main character design is on point  great job! Super polished!

Starlock Defense by Tommy Moua 2023-10-03T19:34:02Z

This is a pretty sweet idea for a tower defense. Deciding whether to keep a carrier in a strong position or move it towards distance asteroids is a great dynamic. Had different usability issues like carriers often not moving when I tell them to :) but of course, limited time for polish. It's impressive that you got such a solid tower defense working in the time given. Great job!

Jurassic escape by DSFAN 2023-10-06T15:23:49Z

Great job with this, it was fun to play, very charming, and felt like a relatively complete package for a jam game. Well done!

Don't Get Crushed! by RossK 2023-10-05T19:39:54Z

Great work, fits the theme well, the moment when you see a new non-standard shape and have to figure out where you need to stand to take advantage of it is tense and fun.

Fill the crates ! by Flancon 2023-10-05T11:30:00Z

Great job finishing a game for the jam. It definitely fits the theme well! I like the idea a lot, having these random containers and trying to jam as many tetronimoes in as you can. There are lots of ways you could make a very compelling game out of that mechanic and it sounds like you would have liked to work on that if you had time. Very relatable!

As a jam-specific pointer, it can pay off to give players more of a "complete experience" of playing the game, even if what you make isn't in-line with what you wanted. For instance, you could have made the timer shorter each time the player solved one down to a minimum value, and then give the player a "victory" screen after they complete a certain number of shipments. That way, jammers aren't left playing an infinite game wondering "is there more to see or am I finished?"

Anyway, congrats on making the game! Super impressive, hopefully see you next LD!

Spooky Escape by BigAl 2023-10-03T16:28:24Z

Super fun, I agree with above that the 30 second time goal was a good idea for a jam game! Love all the art. Great job!
