| Apr 24 07:13:25 | Reverse | ♥ 2 | Let's start with the good stuff. I really like the art style and music. UI is pretty, snappy and minimalistic which is exactly how I like it. Gameplay is fun! The game feels like something I would've played the living hell out of on PlayStation 2 (camera work is reminiscent of the games from that era which for some might be a negative but I like it). As for the less good stuff, the controls aren't super intuitive. I think one of the ways this could be improved is by giving "Sparky" some ability animation even when he doesn't have anything to burn. Otherwise, if a player tests the switch (Tab) key first and then the ability key (F) he might conclude that the F key doesn't work. The game could really use one more level and like other users pointed out before me it doesn't really follow the theme very closely (you have two opposites in form of character abilities but not the genres). Oh, and I managed to found one bug. Going back to the main menu using pause menu causes pause menu and main menu music to play at the same time. In short, Reverse is a fun and pretty game with some minor flaws. I'm a fan! Good job guys. | |
| Apr 24 08:00:37 | 47m 12s | Zoccer | ♥ 1 | I like the game a lot. It's really fun to play. Controls felt a bit awkward at first (I'd assume that dribbling a ball around a horde of zombies would feel a fair bit awkward so it only makes sense) but when I bounced the ball off the wall to kill 4 zombies during my second playthrough I realized that this game is one of those "a minute to learn a lifetime to master" kind of affairs. A high skill ceiling gives Zoccer surprising longevity which is always an issue with jam games. Music and sound are superb which add to the mood of the game. AI works well (zombies be zombies) if we ignore some minor glitches caused by the walls. Oh, and the premise is of course hilarious. The only negative thing I can think of is the 'programmer art'. The game looks like a GameMaker game, but it didn't detract from the experience, especially when we take the context of a 48-hour game jam into account. Out of curiosity, are any of the game elements procedurally generated (some parts of the map layout, placement of items/enemies)? The light mechanic (which is great btw) made it so I couldn't really tell for sure even after multiple playthroughs. All in all, it's a good game with some truly great elements and only one major flaw that's easy to ignore. Great job! |
| Apr 24 08:52:08 | 51m 31s | Robot's_Turn | ♥ 1 | I really like your take on the theme. Your game feels innovative and parts of it look good (the gameplay itself with animations and 3d models). However, it also feels kinda random, like an elaborate version of a rock-paper-scissors game (is there any way to predict which tactics your opponent will use? you might think about adding some indicators if you're going to develop this game further). UI and menus aren't very pretty (which I can totally relate to, I have nightmares about being forced to do something in photoshop). On the whole, it feels like a super interesting idea that needed one or two more days to get realized fully. I had fun with it. Good job! |
| Apr 24 09:15:22 | 23m 14s | Patrick's Shoot Towers Pew Pew! | ♥ 1 | This game is absolutely positively hilarious. The music wouldn't win you any awards in the actual 'music' category but it sure brought a smile to my face. I'm not going to focus on the flaws of the game because I'm sure you're aware of them (your own in-game commentary suggests as much). I'll just say that playing it gave me a good chuckle. Good job, I'm sure you're going to do great in your future jams! |
| Apr 24 09:24:50 | 9m 28s | Pew Pew Pew | ♥ 0 | "Fun and quirky" is pretty much how I'd describe your game. It's a little rough around the edges but definitely enjoyable. The music is a big plus and I like the humor. It also controls well even though I'm not a fan of the claustrophobic camera. I'm not sure which genres you were attempting to combine, but there's some platforming and some shooting so attempts were made :) Good job and good luck in future jams! |
| Apr 24 11:19:19 | 1h 54m | Peculiar Adventures of Dorothy Hops | ♥ 2 | What can I say? "Peculiar Adventures of Dorothy Hops" is awesome. Top marks in all categories. The game is innovative, challenging, replayable, atmospheric and drop-dead gorgeous. Sound design is on point and there's some humor sprinkled in. This is the kind of game I hope I'll be making once I get more experienced. Hats off to the team. You did a great job. |
| Apr 24 11:51:01 | 31m 42s | Elemento | ♥ 1 | Elemento looks really impressive. It's hard not to appreciate how much work you've put into this thing. I wouldn't have been able to code 20% of the logic you managed to cram into this thing in such a short span of time. Theme works, the game is innovative and if I really had to point out one thing that isn't all that great it's probably the UI. Oh, and mod support for a jam game? The game is truly impressive from a technical stand-point given the jam context. Great job! |
| Apr 24 12:49:34 | 58m 33s | Guns N' Goals | ♥ 2 | Very cool game! Fun concept, good graphics, and animations. The game controls smoothly enough, though the ball physics aren't as intuitive as they could've been. Music is great, sound effect less so. On the whole a great effort. Guns N'Goals is very enjoyable and I'm sure a more polished version could be successful outside of LD jam. |
| Apr 24 13:30:24 | 40m 50s | Light At Night | ♥ 1 | I like almost everything about this game. It looks good, it has great music and sound effects. Controls are... not what I'd expect and I found them a bit frustrating early on but I got used to them after some time (though not enough to attempt the impossible level). I'm not sure if I get the theme but it's definitely an interesting entry and I enjoyed my time with it! |
| Apr 24 13:51:26 | 21m 02s | Misty Night | ♥ 0 | The game is gorgeous and easy to listen to (which is quite important for a rhythm game). It has a few issues like the lack of feedback for the player when he makes a good move or the steep difficulty curve (I wasn't able to finish the boss fight even though I really wanted to find out about that plot twist that you advertised)! It's also a single genre game as far as I can see (please correct me if I'm wrong) but I liked it. |
| Apr 24 14:21:09 | 29m 43s | TechNaut | ♥ 1 | Now, this is right up my alley! I'm one of those few people who actually enjoy FPS platformers. This game gives me strong "A Story About My Uncle" vibes. It controls well and the first level was kinda perfect. Unfortunately, I'm not quite sure what I'm supposed to do in the second one. The level design seems a bit random. That said, there's a lot of potential in the game. Graphics are great, the sound is great. TechNaut gets the theme of the jam right (VR in non-VR is a smart deconstruction), it's fairly innovative and I feel like the only thing that took me out of the experience was that second level that I couldn't quite get. Still, it was a pleasure playing your game. Good job! |
| Apr 24 17:16:52 | 2h 55m | Cardcade | ♥ 3 | Wow! I'm in awe, to be honest. This is the second LD41 game I've played so far that I'm sure would enjoy a commercial success (if built upon of course) and the first one I had to consciously stop myself from playing. Also, Cardcade is the first LD41 game that I'm sure I'm going to play again. I don't know how good the balancing is, because cost reduction + summons + kiting seems a bit OP at the moment but I'm sure you can nail that down with testing ("Free Cost" card almost assuredly has to go). Other than that everything is superb, from graphics and music (though that rap song might be a bit much:P) through game feel and theme. Amazing job! You have a great team of talented people and it shows. |
| Apr 24 18:00:53 | 44m 01s | Kidcat: A point and shoot microgame | ♥ 1 | Great game with only two flaws in my opinion. It's a little light on content, it could've used one or two more quests. I know you announced the milk quest thingie and I'll be happy to play it but as far as I know, you can't create additional content for your game after the submission hour ends. Or rather, you can but it won't count for the jam. Feel free to consult someone else on this though because I'm not sure (it's my first LD ever). Second of all - and that's a very, very minor gripe - it's not "pacific" way but "pacifist" way :) No sweat though as the game is easy to understand. I really like the premise. It's actually kinda brilliant. First of all, it exposes how silly pixel hunting is as a mechanic (you co do it with a gun and it still works). Second of all, it's like a riff on that saying "when you only have a hammer, everything looks like a nail". Big points for that. I enjoyed your game a lot. Great job! |
| Apr 24 18:53:50 | 52m 57s | Shipwrecked on Robot Island | ♥ 1 | Great quality for a jam game. Technically Shipwrecked is very impressive. The graphics, the gameplay, the AI - everything is a step or two above your average jam game (you even implemented LOD which I'm sure some jammers with less powerful machines are grateful for). The theme seems like a slight cop-out to me, but it's not like I was any better in that regard:P The only criticism is that the game became a bit repetitive at the end. I probably wouldn't have noticed (because the gameplay was awesome) if not for the music theme (which was great for the first 5 minutes, pretty good the following 5 and then it became a bit too repetitive). All in all a very good technical achievement for a jam game. I enjoyed my time with it. High marks in most categories. Cheers! |
| Apr 24 19:59:09 | 1h 05m | Ultimate Hero Simulator | ♥ 2 | Well, it's one of those jam games that makes you think "damn, there are some really talented people out there". Everything in this game is great. Top marks for innovation, theme, graphics, fun, and mood. Stylistically, even though it's 2d Ultimate Hero Simulator game me strong MDK vibe. Oh, and the game was hard but fair and it doesn't take that long to get good at it. Amazing entry. Good job guys! |
| Apr 24 20:34:51 | 35m 42s | Star Battle Poker | ♥ 1 | The villain is a massive calling station, to the point that you can even consider value betting with K-high on some boards. Bluffing - even in reasonably good spots - is not a winning strategy in this game:P Still, I don't have anything bad to say about Star Battle Poker. I'd imagine that making a good poker player AI is a tough cookie to crack, especially in the no-limit hold'em context where there are so many possible bet sizes. Anyway, as you can probably tell I had some experience with poker and I really enjoyed your take. Oh, and the humor works + music is very good :) |
| Apr 24 21:35:48 | 1h 00m | Rhythm Overdrive | ♥ 3 | Holly smokes! I'm not exactly a rhythm game genre connoisseur but I've been known to play a game or two of Audiosurf in my day, and I feel like your game is in many ways better. More responsive, more satisfying. I don't know, maybe the genre is saturated, but in my eyes, this little jam gem could easily find its way into my Steam library. Just make a killer original soundtrack, give people the ability to load their own tunes and you have a winner on your hands. I enjoyed my time with Rhythm Overdrive immensely, it's a really great game. |
| Apr 24 21:55:34 | 19m 46s | Turn Around - When turn-based rules meets their opposite ! | ♥ 0 | Great little turn-based puzzle game with a real-time twist. Turn Around could use a bit of polish (mainly when it comes to controls) but it already looks and plays fairly well. You managed to give Turn Around a somewhat unique look using mostly cubes which shouldn't be overlooked. On the whole, it's a good game. |
| Apr 24 22:17:06 | 21m 32s | A Fistful of Shrooms | ♥ 1 | I had no idea how much I needed this in my life. It reminded me of the good old days when I used to play Virtua Cop on my friends Windows 95 machine. Man, I'm getting old. Back to the point though, the game feels a tad bit random and as for the theme consideration, you kinda got off on a technicality:P Even still, I really, really, really enjoyed shooting some mushrooms with my mouse cursor. Thank you for giving me that experience. |
| Apr 24 22:38:22 | 21m 16s | Shot Thru The Heart | ♥ 0 | Well... Now I'm going to have to listen to that Bon Jovi song on Spotify for a few hours on loop... 10/10! Seriously though, humor is the strongest point of Shot Thru The Heart. Some of the bits missed but I got a few good laughs playing your game so thanks for that:) |
| Apr 24 22:52:30 | 14m 08s | It's Not Lupus! | ♥ 3 | I just cured diarrhea and tinnitus with a spaceship - GOTY. Seriously though, cool concept that you realized well. The shooty bits are a tad bit repetitive, and the questions started repeating after the first four or so which means that there's probably not that many of them (or it was just my luck) but the game looks cool, plays well and I learned something from it. Good job! |
| Apr 25 09:35:06 | 10h 42m | Keep Blobby Alive | ♥ 2 | You managed to nail the feel of the game. It looks great, the sound is great and you definitely got the theme right. If I had to point out one flaw, it's that the game mechanics might be a little bit too simplistic but that also contributes to the game's Game Boy-esque aesthetic. I had fun with the game so good job! |
| Apr 25 09:53:41 | 18m 35s | Super Slime Slasher Ultra | ♥ 2 | Fun, quirky, well-polished jam game. You nailed the theme and the game aesthetic. Plus, Super Slime Slasher Ultra is kinda addictive which is always a good sign (at least when it comes to jam games). Oh, and points for the voice acting! |
| Apr 25 10:59:09 | 1h 05m | Late for Love | ♥ 1 | That was pretty much a perfect jam experience. Polished, fun and powerful. Initially, I had some minor gripes with the story. Instinctively, I felt like you could've fleshed out or explained the relationship between the two characters better, but now I think that the vagueness was actually a good call. Also, I like how you made a non-romantic playthrough a valid choice. There's no game over screen or anything like that. I appreciate that. Oh, and you've managed to make a riff on a moment that was smothered in cheesiness and kitsch in the cinema classic called "2 fast 2 furious", send some light shivers down my spine. I actually feel like I got something out of playing this game. Something small that will stay with me. Will you develop this thing further? I feel like it has potential to be a full game. You can make an anthology consisting of few stories that play out during a car ride with a TellTale/Firewatch/Oxenfree style dialogue system. You'd have to work on the writing a little bit but I'd buy that game. Hell, I'd love to make it. In any case, this is definitely one of the best experiences LD41 offered me so far. Thank you and great job! P.S. Late for Love is a perfect PSA for not talking/texting while driving. Decades of romantic undertones won't amount to much if you hit a truck while discussing them. |
| Apr 25 12:35:10 | 1h 36m | Point'n'Kill | ♥ 1 | The game is super fun to play. So much so that I've played it a good few times more than it was necessary to review it. Point'n'Kill definitely follows the theme of the jam (the title alone says as much). The game is also pretty and the music is great. I don't know how well would this control on mobile but it might be a really great idea for a game for that platform. I had fun with most of the LD games I reviewed so far but this one was definitely way above average in that regard. |
| Apr 25 19:54:05 | 7h 18m | Flight Deck | ♥ 2 | I have to admit, I was a bit confused at the beginning but that confusion was very brief. Once I played a few cards I got into the swing of things and everything became clear. Your game reminds me a bit of a title called Reigns, which isn't a bad thing. It's a similar "single-player card game with needs management" type of idea. Flight Deck turned out to be surprisingly fun and I really enjoyed my time with the game. |
| Apr 25 20:08:33 | 14m 28s | walking memory | ♥ 2 | I think that the concept of your game has potential but it would've been a lot better if the movement was more responsive. Think of a game like Refunct combined with your memory game idea. With a more responsive fps controller and perhaps some additional ways of moving through 3d space (starting with jumping of course), plus a bit more varied level design this could've been a really good one (and it still can be if you decide to build on what you made). On the whole, it plays like a good idea that needed one or two more days to be fully realized. Still, you finished and submitted your LD game despite the tight schedule which is a big deal in and of itself. Good job! P.S. I'm a fan of the title:) |
| Apr 25 20:24:31 | 15m 58s | Fish Fighter | ♥ 1 | I definitely like the humor (shooting fish with a gun is a positively hilarious idea even for a vegetarian:P) and I like that your game follows the theme of the jam. Also, the music is really good. Fish Fighter could've been more polished but the idea was definitely solid. |
| Apr 25 20:33:38 | 9m 07s | TPS: Top Person Shooter | ♥ 1 | Mechanically this game is surprisingly great. The way you combined the FPS and a puzzle game genres is pretty ingenious. Adding time pressure was a good call that tied it all together. UI is good, sound effects are good, "programmer art" less so but TPS was definitely a positive experience for me. |
| Apr 25 20:43:21 | 9m 43s | Golfing Dead | ♥ 1 | The good: Graphics, idea, humor. The less good: Controls. I couldn't really get into the game because I found the way it plays a bit frustrating. Maybe I should 'git gud' or accept the fact that playing golf in a zombie apocalypse is tough, but I feel like this game could've used a different control scheme. Still, Golfing Dead looks like a really good effort and it certainly followed the theme of the jam. |
| Apr 25 23:16:02 | 2h 32m | Jeff From Accounting | ♥ 0 | That's just a great game. Definitely deserves top marks for the theme, innovation, humor and... most everything else for that matter. Great job guys! |
| Apr 25 23:21:57 | 5m 55s | Check, Please! | ♥ 2 | Super short and sweet but extremely well polished. In my personal estimation, the length of a game jam creation isn't all that relevant and you pretty much nailed everything else. It's not even my kind of game and I still loved it! |
| Apr 25 23:30:55 | 8m 58s | A Puzzling Combination | ♥ 1 | I could voice some criticisms but the answers to all of them are already in your youtube video about the entry. Instead, I'll just say that it might be a good idea to build on this a bit and maybe publish it on Android? It just feels like a very good mobile game. In any case, very good entry. Good job! |
| Apr 25 23:36:25 | 5m 30s | HellScape | ♥ 1 | I like it. Great old-school shooter vibe with a twist. It's a little rough around the edges, but it's also definitely an above average entry with top marks for graphics and mood. |
| Apr 25 23:43:01 | 6m 36s | Fuel Race | ♥ 2 | Very cool, very fun game that feels polished and true to the theme. I particularly enjoyed the tight controls. This might be a great idea for a mobile game (if built upon). It feels really addictive even in its current state. |
| Apr 25 23:49:54 | 6m 53s | Shuffle Climber | ♥ 0 | A super fun game that would look great on mobile with some minor tweaks (balance is a bit unforgiving, shield feels a bit useless?). Still, the game doesn't really have weak points and I really enjoyed playing it. |
| Apr 26 09:05:59 | 9h 16m | Flee, little guinea pig! | ♥ 1 | I'm just going to confirm what many others said before. This is 5/5 game theme-wise. |
| Apr 26 09:16:07 | 10m 08s | Tejuru (Tetris & Jump & Run & Digger & Unicorns) | ♥ 1 | Big fan of the concept. The game feels like it could really use a bit more polish but that's true for most jam games. The graphics are cute, the game is fun to play and it certainly follows the theme. Good job! |
| Apr 26 09:42:22 | 26m 15s | Dancemazing | ♥ 1 | 0 points for the theme because to me this is just a horror game (I have a recurring nightmare about being forced to dance at some sort of family function). Just kidding! I think that the theme is the strongest part of Dancemazing. Plus, you've managed to convey a lot of humor with just game mechanics. I almost bursted out laughing after my first encounter with the monster :) |
| Apr 26 09:48:25 | 6m 03s | Tiny Crusader | ♥ 1 | Very nice entry. Great use of the theme, innovative game mechanics + it's fun! |
| Apr 26 10:00:35 | 12m 10s | Soccer Fight | ♥ 1 | Well, that was one of the funniest and most fun games I've played this jam so far. I think that the game could've been improved with some additional enemies that take more damage/higher ball velocity to kill because in the current state charging up your shots isn't very useful or efficient. That said I really like the game and as I've said before I had a lot of fun with it! |
| Apr 26 11:31:26 | 1h 30m | Super Dashball | ♥ 1 | I have nothing bad to say about this game. Great use of a theme and loads of fun. Graphics are fitting (strong Videoball vibe) music and sound effect are even better. You even made a multiplayer mode and a few different levels. Super Dashball is one of the better games that I reviewed so far! |
| Apr 26 11:44:11 | 12m 45s | Wonky Farm Dance Party | ♥ 0 | I try to finish every game that I review but I had trouble with this one. Not that it's bad, it isn't and I appreciate many parts of it. It's just that the flashing light got a bit tiresome after a while. That said, other than the slightly wonky controls and loosely tide 'rhythm' part everything else is kinda great:) |
| Apr 26 12:00:29 | 16m 18s | Tour de France Legstrong | ♥ 2 | Such a great little game. I had a lot of fun playing it. Giant props for winning and game over screens. You've managed to put tons of humor into this game with a minimal amount of words. |
| Apr 26 12:10:02 | 9m 33s | Dance Duel Cowboy! | ♥ 0 | Holly smokes Batman! That's a compo entry? Graphics, animations and overall level of polish are really on point. Good job! |
| Apr 26 12:36:30 | 26m 28s | Guan's Island | ♥ 1 | The game feels like it's missing a few things, but it's still really fun. Plus, you pretty much nailed it stylistically. Guan's Island looks and feels like something I could've played on NES back when I was just a wee lad:) |
| Apr 26 20:22:04 | 7h 45m | Rapid Fire | ♥ 2 | Like many others said before the game feels like a good concept that needed a bit more polish. Jump height should've been a bit higher, ground collider flat etc. etc. The skeleton of the game is solid though and I'm sure your next LD creation will be even better. Can't wait to play it:) |
| Apr 26 21:17:36 | 55m 32s | Super Soccer | ♥ 1 | Smooth, responsive and super fun! The game is also really funny, the sounds aren't tiresome and the graphics are clear. Super Soccer was really enjoyable to play. |
| Apr 26 23:50:24 | 2h 32m | Ready Set Box | ♥ 1 | I'm a heavy bag fiend in real life so I just had to play this entry:) Graphically it's amazing, you followed the theme, mechanics of the game are simple but well designed (speaking from a position of someone who actually had a few sparring sessions in his life). The only bad thing about Ready Set Box is that I'd like it to be more of it, but I understand how much work you've put into the game. Besides, when it comes to jam games, length isn't that important. Overall, very good entry! |
| Apr 27 19:35:04 | 19h 44m | 00Boyfriend - A Spy's Dating Sim | ♥ 3 | Normally I try to complete every LD game before I rate it. Let's just say that in this case, I didn't have to try - I got sucked into the experience and was actually a bit disappointed when I saw the ending screen. Tremendous job guy! Super fun and polished entry. |
| Apr 27 20:02:00 | 26m 56s | Nerd's Revenge: Punches delivered with math | ♥ 2 | Really cool entry! I like everything about Nerd's Revenge other than the difficulty level (though I suppose I should just 'git gud':)). The game is innovative, it follows the theme, it has a cohesive art style and it's of course very funny. Good job! |
| Apr 27 20:11:18 | 9m 18s | Numbness | ♥ 1 | Very innovative game. You took the theme and you run with it. Numbness is really short and sweet and I had a lot of fun with it. Great job! |
| Apr 27 20:15:49 | 4m 31s | Christmas Struggle | ♥ 0 | I'm not sure if I can add anything on top of the feedback that you've already received from other folks. Let me just say that I enjoyed the game's atmosphere a lot and while some things could've been more polished it was a very nice experience overall. Good job! |
| Apr 28 07:59:53 | 11h 44m | Football Horror | ♥ 1 | This is pretty much a 1 to 1 representation of my experience during high-school PE classes :P Seriously though, I've played two other games that used a similar idea but I think that I like your implementation the best. The controls are very tight, dribbling past zombies is incredibly fun and so is shooting their heads off. I may be slightly biased because I always liked the idea of playing football in the first person but not many games offer that experience (behind the back camera in FIFA/PES is probably the closest thing to it though it's only practical in the career mode) so your game managed to scratch that itch. The one thing I'd change is that I wouldn't allow zombies to spawn behind the player because at some point you're destined to die before you make your first move. This is a somewhat realistic outcome in a zombie apocalypse of course, but it's also the only frustrating thing about this game. Other than that, I had tons of fun playing your game. Definitely a 5/5 experience in the fun category. P.S. You could've easily called this game "Polish Ekstraklasa Simulator" :P |
| Apr 28 08:19:42 | 19m 49s | ShootBall | ♥ 3 | I think that your game could've been extremely fun with a bit more polish. The movement is ok, so are the shooting mechanics. I feel like the second level is too difficult but the AI works well so that's a plus. Rudimentary sounds and programmer art bring this game down a bit but when it comes to game jam creations mechanics are more important than the look of the game. On the whole, I think ShootBall has very solid mechanics and it follows the theme. Good job! |
| Apr 28 09:07:40 | 47m 58s | About Love | ♥ 1 | What a great game! Everything is top notch, from the graphics through theme, gameplay, and design. Oh, and the music. The music! It's beyond amazing (I'm a big fan of that fingerstyle guitar piece). The game is also fun and I don't even like clicker games. You've managed to tell a great story with almost no words while I needed almost a thousand to write some bad, meaningless fan-fiction level bullshit. 5/5 game as far as I'm concerned. Great job guys! |
| Apr 28 09:24:10 | 16m 30s | Fire Duck Football | ♥ 1 | You had me at football and then I saw rubber ducks holding AK-47 and nothing was the same anymore;P When I managed to use a bullet to lob the ball over the head of the opponent and then dribble past him (I believe football players call this particular move 'el sombrero') I felt kinda ecstatic. The game is very innovative and if I had to point out one thing that isn't that good it would probably be the ambient sounds that might suit a more traditional take on a football game, but not one that's played by rubber ducks using AK's :) Still, that's not very important and on the whole you've managed to make a really fun game. Good job! |
| Apr 28 09:53:02 | 28m 52s | Pinboy-an RPG+ Pinball game | ♥ 0 | I can't see any flaws I could point out in your game. What a great little, polished experience. I could see it becoming a successful commercial release (though while I do appreciate your approach to music and it made me laugh on more than one occasion, it would probably have to go if you decided to build the game further:P ). One of the best LD games I've played so far. 5/5 in most categories. Great job! |
| Apr 28 15:45:13 | 5h 52m | Poker-Man : Arcade + Poker | ♥ 1 | The only issue with the game is its level of complexity (which out of all the possible problems - is not the worst to have). Of course, it's possible to blindly collect everything but the number of possible strategies is truly overwhelming. Plus, if a player wants to pay attention to what cards the ghosts are getting... boy oh boy is he in for a headache. You pretty much nailed the theme and the look of a PacMan game. I wish the controls were a tiny bit more responsive and the cards a bit easier to read (4 color deck option with large faces might be a good idea) but on the whole, this is a pretty damn cool entry. Good job! EDIT: Oh yeah and there's the copyright issue that I missed in the first place. It's not going to affect my rating but it's something to think about. |
| Apr 28 18:25:38 | 2h 40m | VRn't | ♥ 3 | I was about to point out that the game is a bit light on mechanics... and then the Roomba showed up:P I mean, the game is still a bit light gameplay wise but everything else is pretty much spot on - especially how innovative Vrn't is and how brilliantly it uses the theme of the jam. Also, you've managed to make the game extremely funny witch just the title and the game mechanics. Great job! |
| Apr 28 19:02:45 | 37m 07s | Shady Cards | ♥ 1 | Very strong entry. A poker player might argue that holdem hand always consists of 5 cards even when it's a pair but I for one understand the value of artistic liberty:P Other than that one adjective that comes to mind after playing this game is "tight". The controls, the sounds and the feel of the game are all great. It seems like The Adventures of Batman and Robin was actually a very accurate reference. I wish the end goal was a bit more clear but other than that you have a winner on your hands. |
| Apr 28 19:23:20 | 20m 35s | Speeddating | ♥ 2 | meme.jpg In all seriousness though, there could've been a few more questions in the pool but other than that a great entry! |
| Apr 29 11:10:41 | 15h 47m | Dig Knight | ♥ 1 | The game is very tight and well realized. It's also innovative though I'm not sure which two genres you were trying to combine. That said, it's still a great entry so good job! |
| Apr 29 11:21:23 | 10m 42s | 4F - Faith, Forests, Fire and Floods | ♥ 1 | I'm not really a strategy game kinda guy but when I play one it often has a God theme (other than Warcraft, Populous: The Beginning was probably the first strategy game that I liked) so I might be slightly biased. I've also spent a bunch of time on Civ titles so I like the hex grind + turn-based aspect of it. I think you followed the theme fairly well. Turn-based God game might not be that incompatible but sandbox God game is a bit unusual (both Populous and Black&White, for example, had clearly defined goals). The game has rich mechanics and it definitely has potential. The only bad thing about it is the placeholder art but this isn't even that important in the context of a strategy game made for a jam. Good job! |
| Apr 29 11:31:09 | 9m 46s | Shot! Shot! | ♥ 1 | This game is positively hilarious. I like when a game manages to make me laugh via the use of game mechanics alone rather than words. "Shot! Shot!" is very innovative and it follows the theme well. The main issue with the game is that there's not that much to it but that's totally understandable in the context of a jam game. Overall, a very fun and innovative game. Cheers! |
| Apr 29 11:36:06 | 4m 57s | Plane Fishing | ♥ 1 | The game is very fun. It's also very funny and I like the style of it. "Plane Fishing" is good enough that you should probably invest in some anger management classes. I'd hate it if I wouldn't be able to play your next jam game because you destroyed the gear necessary to make it:) Good job! Also, take it easy and take care. |
| Apr 29 11:58:22 | 22m 16s | Witch's Escape | ♥ 2 | What a great game! You can publish this on mobile pretty much as it is (slight polish, adjusting controls for mobile etc.). A 5/5 entry in my book. The one thing you could potentially improve upon are different spell effects for each input but that's a small thing. Also, I've encountered some small audio glitches once the difficulty of the game was ramping up (no idea what was causing them but they weren't really that severe). Overall, amazing job! |
| Apr 29 12:16:41 | 18m 19s | Move and Hide | ♥ 1 | As a fellow first-time game jammer, I can totally relate to the idea of not being able to put everything that you wanted into a game. Move and Hide could use a bunch of things, more levels and mechanics, better graphics, sound etc. But guess what the core loop of the game is very interesting and nicely implemented. You followed the theme and made something interesting that at least few people enjoyed. You also managed to create something with a lot of potential, an idea that you can go back to once you get more skilled at developing games. I'm sure that just like me you've learned a lot and now you'd be able to make this kind of game three times faster. That's why I can't wait to play your next jam creation. Great job! |
| Apr 29 12:36:27 | 19m 46s | Action TCG | ♥ 2 | Very interesting, very fun idea that was well implemented. I think you might be onto something with this one. It might be a good idea to develop this game further. In any case, this is one of the best entries I had a pleasure of playing and reviewing this LD. Cheers! |
| Apr 29 15:55:26 | 3h 18m | On The Fly | ♥ 1 | What a beautiful experience! Can't really say much on top of what others said before me but I had a lot of fun with your game. Graphics and mood are amazing. Great job! |
| Apr 30 11:59:14 | 20h 03m | Wizsnooks | ♥ 4 | I believe that this game has a tremendous potential. There are a few kinks to iron out (some levels seem really unbalanced/unforgiving + the ability to move the camera and see the full layout of the level might be a welcomed addition) but other than that everything is great. I'd play the hell out of this on mobile. As far as the jam is concerned you've made a very innovative, well-polished entry. Amazing job! |
| Apr 30 12:10:45 | 11m 31s | Gender Circles | ♥ 0 | Fun controls, great music. It's a simple idea that was well realized. The graphics could've been a bit easier to read and I'm not sure how well this game follows the theme of the jam but on the whole, it was a very nice experience. Good job! |
| Apr 30 12:16:12 | 5m 27s | Puttsy | ♥ 1 | This isn't really my kind of game but it's hard not to appreciate it. You've managed to create a very clean and tight implementation of a good idea and I can't really find any major flaws in it. A very good entry that has a solid potential to be developed further. Great job! |
| Apr 30 17:50:14 | 5h 34m | Tennis Defense | ♥ 0 | I just realized LD has the 'danger zone' category and since I'm a big 'Archer' fan I'll most likely focus on those games from now on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PzhsPS8Z50 You had a great idea and you got the core of it right. 'Tennis Defense' is certainly way above average in the 'fun' category as far as I'm concerned. There are few issues that other people pointed out (zombies that spawn on the side of the screen are very hard to kill) and the game could use a bit more polish in general, but again - the solid core is there. I can't wait to play your future jam creations. Good job! |
| Apr 30 18:00:13 | 9m 59s | Flappy Soccer | ♥ 2 | I'm here to help you leave the 'danger zone' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PzhsPS8Z50 A very cool idea that could've used a bit more polish. However, what you've managed to put into the game is already quite fun. It's also really difficult but that's probably because I'm not exactly a Flappy Bird veteran. On the whole Flappy Soccer is a promising first LD entry. Cheers! |
| Apr 30 18:13:53 | 13m 40s | Grenade Golf | ♥ 1 | danger zone.jpg I've rated a few 'danger zone' games now and I detect a running theme. "Granade Golf" has a great idea that probably would've been among the top-rated games had you managed to polish it just a tiny bit more. The core gameplay is fun and tight but the game could use some music, maybe some more animations, a player model and like a touch more complexity. Still, it's a pretty good entry and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it! |
| May 1 16:51:44 | 22h 37m | Honest Dan's Trout | ♥ 1 | Brilliant idea, great execution. 5/5 entry! |
| May 1 20:54:43 | 4h 02m | ASTROPOVER | ♥ 1 | Interesting game. Even though Super Mario Bros was the first game that I've ever finished, I'm not exactly an expert when it comes to 2d platforming and ASTROPOVER was a bit too difficult for my liking. Other than that, it's a very solid entry. It might not be the most innovative game that I played this LD but it certainly follows the theme, it has good graphics, nice sounds and it's fun to play. Good job! |
| May 2 07:59:08 | 11h 04m | The forgotten jacket | ♥ 1 | Interesting game. I like the mood and the graphics. The gameplay has some issues but I can see that you're trying to address them. Overall, a very promising first LD entry. Good job! |
| May 3 08:04:32 | 24h 05m | Think Before Escape | ♥ 1 | What a great little idea! The game feels and plays very well. It's extremely innovative and that's the source of the only potential flaw that I can see in it. I mean, the game requires a shift in mindset from the player. There's a bunch of tight platforming here that we all know and love and turn-based mechanics kinda kill the pacing of it. If you play Think Before Escape expecting a platformer you probably won't enjoy it that much. However, if you approach the game with an open mind you'll get tons of fun from it. Great entry! Cheers! |
| May 3 08:17:30 | 12m 58s | Participating in a Drinking Game While Playing Soccer | ♥ 1 | It seems like you're in some sort of a zone of danger. Let me help you out:) I like the idea! The game plays well and it made me smile. As for the shortcomings, I'm sure you're perfectly aware of them. The game lacks polish. It could use better graphics, better UI, perhaps a few more game mechanics. The core idea is strong though and I have to rate this entry favorably for what's already there. Good job! |
| May 3 11:56:56 | 3h 39m | Dance Fu | ♥ 1 | As a fellow first time jammer, I commend you for your effort. I know how hard it is to complete an entry when you're not that experienced at making games. You've managed to complete a fun and interesting game that works, so good job! It's a solid entry that could've used a bit more polish, but I had fun playing it. Cheers! |
