a bit slow to get going but we really enjoyed it once we got into it! we didnt realise til affter that you could destroy buildings - actually the strategy is more interesting if you cant haha. Great art btw

zailr 2022-10-04 11:13

visuals are good and it was fun to play!!

okshirl 2022-10-04 11:14

I feel like there is so much more thinking and strategy I could do with this game! It was such a fun idea, I definitely had to pick and choose what to prioritize. I didn't really understand what the map is for on the bottom left, wish there was more instruction for that. Found a minor bug where the volume control no longer works after returning to the main screen. Really good graphics, great job!

jhax 2022-10-04 11:15

Took me a little while to figure out what was going on (bit of post-Jam brain fatigue I think!) - but I'm so glad I gave it a bit of time to understand what was going on.

I enjoyed this a lot - I love resource management games and this is a really well put together example of one. The art work is gorgeous, and the shifting cube is a really interesting take on things.

henrik-ganard 2022-10-04 11:19

Nice game. I loved the aestethics and the gameplay was fun.

vipbasil 2022-10-04 11:25

Amazing game, amazing world, i'd play such game. Please add crafting through merge mechanics.

oadt 2022-10-04 11:26

Very polished game and cool idea to put your game on a cubic rubic  I like the game mechanic of removing buildings which currently consume the resources you need. Though I think it could be a bit better comunicated what the single buildings produce/consume currently (but I also don't know how you can do that without cluttering the ui) I also liked the end sequence with the rocket!

pepnou 2022-10-04 11:27

@copilotclaude @zailr @okshirl @jhax @henrik-ganard Thank you for your feedback!

@okshirl As the game take place on a face of a rubik's cube, the map is the template of the cube, with the ressources produced by the building on the slot.

@jhax haha XD, i'm also 1% brain capacity. Glad you enjoyed the game

sash-a 2022-10-04 11:32

Really really fun strategy game, couple small things holding it back from being perfect.

It was hard to work out what the rotations would do I think if you could've add in some kind of 3D effect so we could see what was happening better during the rotations that would be great, because it felt like my buildings were just disappearing. It also didn't feel like there was a way to lose, which isn't a terrible thing for a jam game, but in this case I had no sense of urgency. Would be nice if there was some mechanic where resources stores decay over time and if I run out of all resources I lose?

Overall I had a lot of fun with this one!

blacklambert 2022-10-04 11:36

Pretty interesting concept. I took me a while to understand the rubik cube idea and I am not sure if it gives much to the gameplay. But nice to play nonetheless. The looks of the game are very polished. Especially the screen transition and the ending sequence. The music becomes pretty annoying though. XD

cambryx 2022-10-04 12:10

Amazing game! Awesome graphics great music and so many small animations and details. It just feels sooo polished. The gameplay was a lot of fun and reminded me a bit of my absolute favorite game factorio (especially the animation when you launched the rocket) :D One thing I realized is that I never really looked at the mini-cube-map in the corner but only on the currently active face and the indicator which side will be turned. But this didn't make it any less fun! :D Maybe when you can't afford to buy something you could color the missing resources in the price red to make it easier to see what you need more of. But this is the only idea I could come up with to improve the game. Great game overall!

benthetwoofus 2022-10-04 12:27

At first, I needed time to understand the rules underlying this game. That's not the game's fault, the root of the evil is in my brain.

This game is a good combination of strategy and puzzle. The graphics and sound also go very well with the gameplay. I'm not a fan of resource management games, but this game has been a little time-killer for me.

xparker 2022-10-04 13:45

I quite enjoyed the game, but didnt play for too long; i'd say ~5min. Really enjoyed the graphic style and animations.

eugenik 2022-10-04 22:10

loved the mood, graphics and audio.

cookiera 2022-10-05 17:46

Really licked it. Got to the space age B) Love the art! Only issue was some times my dragging would not work and would be placed, but that also on me for trying to rush. Good game!

x000000 2022-10-05 18:31

What a little golden nugget! Absolutely love the concept, cool graphics! The music get a bit repetitive after few minutes, but considering you had such a short time span to write, it is incredibly good piece!

It was a joy to play, keep it up!

vetche-studio 2022-10-05 18:43

Good job! A genius take on the theme :)

denvil 2022-10-05 19:23

Nice take on the theme. Dragging could be more snappier, now buildings floated behind the cursor and that was distracting when sides were changing. Also in HTML version main menu worked in window but game did not fit, but in full screen main menu was broken but game was ok.

jared-n 2022-10-05 19:33

Super interesting game concept that was a lot of fun to play around with. Lots of polish too!

bogden 2022-10-06 07:38

Wow, what a cool concept! Love the idea of having relative positioning matter on a rubik's cube you can't control. Could see a lot of cool games arise out of that core concept, very nicely done! Wonder if there's any other games that use that same premise...

pndaa 2022-10-06 08:07

It was simple but really effective. I've spent a good time with your game and succeeded to go to space at the end. Good job !

thyoi 2022-10-06 08:17

Very interesting game, I was wondering why resources and factory disable when they turn in the other direction while they are still on this cube. This makes the game progress more slowly because you only have 9 grids instead of 27. The art and music are perfect. Overall well done.

sleepymenace 2022-10-06 18:50

This is almost cheating, because I love simple (in design) little puzzle games like this! Very cute, easy to get a hang of, looks good, and fun!

I didn't feel that the flipping did that much later in the game and you ended up just waiting for the cube to flip to a position that gives you the resources you need - maybe letting the player choose which row/column rotates would make it more strategic?

Either way, loved it! Great game! (Music did get a little bit repetitive, though.)

faust-mi 2022-10-06 19:32

Great use of the Rubik's Cube! Nice art and sound! Interesting puzzle. Thx for game!!!

zubspace 2022-10-06 22:18

Wow, this game is really something! The sprites, animations and transitions are great. The gameplay is nice. It's not too easy, but also not too hard. Got a bit slow by the end, because you always seem to miss a material, but that's part of the game I guess :) I'm glad I played it to the end, because that ending sequence was really well done!

pepnou 2022-10-07 16:53

Wow, i don't look for 2 days and so many new comments! That's more than any of our previous game in 3 weeks :unamused:

@vipbasil Great idea! it would be nice to add this for upgrading building and requires only a few tweaks with the current build system.

@oadt Thanks for the feedback! I totally agree with the lack of visibility on ressource production. There is the tooltip to explain the building use, and the production/consumption counter at the top, but in 10s it's hard to pay attention to anything in our already cluttered UI. I'm gload you enjoyed the rocket sequence, i spend way too many time on it :)

@sash-a Thanks! Originally we argued on whether the game should be 2d or 3d but settled on 2 as our artist was more comfortable with 2d (that and i hate rotation stuff). It's intentionnal that you can't lose, the indestructible center building prevent you for falling into a deadlock. With the rotation every 10s, it would be very frustrating if you had to wait for it to come back. The game was designed more as a casual puzzle / resource management game, it wasn't meant to give you a feeling of urgency.

@blacklambert Thank you for playing! Sorry for the programmer music...

@cambryx Thanks! Drag & drop gameplay arent that difficult to build, so we could spend a lot of time on polish. The factorio comparison made me smile as we considered to have belts & inserters in a future very hypothetical version of the game, that would be total chaos. x) Originally, the cube was supposed to be in water with only it's top face out of it. This would explain why only the top face is active. Somehow it ended up floating in the sky ... something was lost on the way. Great idea to show missing ressources when trying to build something, we should have added that.

pepnou 2022-10-07 17:22

@benthetwoofus Thanks! Don't worry too much about your brain, we have the bad habit to never give enough explanations about our game. Glad you enjoyed it.

@xparker Thank you for playing! Wanna know a secret? dancing building arent animations !!!

@denvil @cookiera Thanks for the feedback! We could've added a slider to make the dragging more snappier. Also the tiles arent perfect (not nearly) squares so it's a bit weird at junction between them. I won't complain a lot about unity but we ALWAYS had problems with resolution ... sorry for the broken menu ...

@x000000 Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the game. Sorry for the repetitiveness of the music, i tried my best. It was built as generative music (patch in the screenshots), i might post something to explain it a bit.

@thyoi Thank you for playing! Originally, the cube was supposed to be in water with only it’s top face out of it. This would explain why only the top face is active. Somehow it ended up floating in the sky … something was lost on the way.

@sleepymenace thanks! We should make more little puzzle game in the future if they are better received x) I think choosing the cube's rotation would be overpowered as you can already choose to move (or not) building to decide which one will stay next rotation. Maybe a bigger cube (5x5x5) would be a nice solution & give more freedom to the player.

@zubspace Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the game & finished it (i spent a lot of time on the ending sequence). I feel that balancing the difficulty is always the hardest part: that's one of the last thing to do, you sit in front of your mountain of difficulty variable, question life & get to work (repeat 3 in the process). Maybe a bigger cube would help in endgame but balancing would need to be done again ... noooooooooooo !!!

itooh 2022-10-07 21:03

Came for the generative music, stayed for the cool mechanics. There's a very satisfying feeling of progression! I didn't use the rubik's cube that much to elaborate my strategy: I put and destroyed what I needed semi-randomly, only taking into account which row or column was going to be replaced. If it happened to provide a useful tile, the better! It was still a neat mechanic, as it introduced unpredictability, and a way to virutally have more that 9 tiles. In the end the game remained interesting to play, with good balancing enough so I had to ponder several time which building I needed to create or destroy.

Also very nice polishing! The visuals are pretty, and the music set up a nice mood too. I wouldn't have guess it was generated procedurally without your post, the result is very cohesive and charming! Congrats for making this great entry!

keip 2022-10-07 22:14

whaaa the music is really crass in the long run :D the graphics I find well done and the mechanics is great. makes fun

furano 2022-10-07 22:29

I loved this world on a rubikube! So imaginative! And the switching effect was also really well done!

The music is also impressive, love what you did! That's what brought me here with your post from earlier ahah

À great entry, congrats

wavertron 2022-10-07 22:34

Audio was good but it needed a longer loop as it got a bit monotonous. Great graphics, interesting concept. Well done.

sirdorius 2022-10-08 00:50

Love the graphics and the idea is pretty neat! Well done! Would be nice to just see the total production of each resource instead of +/- values

gn0cchi 2022-10-08 03:21

The audio was fascinating just in the way it came to be alone. The game was cool and a twist on the theme I haven't seen yet

stratcat66 2022-10-08 14:20

Thank you for your game. I think your idea of a ressource management game on a rubiks cube is really fresh. It took me quite some time until I started to figure out some kind of strategy to progress. In the end I managed to start the rocket. The graphics were also fitting. One thing that annoyed me was the random behavior of the movement. At some point I lost a few necessary factories, which did not came back for a long time... Overall a really good and innovative game.

almost 2022-10-08 15:45

Pretty chaotic initially with the pressure of the rows changing while I am just trying to figure out what the buildings do and trying to read all of the different parts of the UI.

But I eventually realized the board is a cube and so it is ok to have building be rotated away and I just focused on producing lots of resources and made it to space. UI at the top indicating the production rates for each resource was helpful to determine bottlenecks.

erlioniel 2022-10-09 10:35

Pretty chaotic in the beginning turned to be not really complex game to play. And gosh what a satisfaction was to see the final victory sequence with a rocket launch! Really a nice point and very cool move. Love it!

Can't say that the cube concept adding something to the game itself, but the overall feeling and graphic is pretty nice. Love this entry, thank you guys!

brandon1037 2022-10-10 03:01

excellent game

purpledartfrog 2022-10-10 08:32

Very very good job :thumbsup_tone1: The @jhax post brought me here

The artstyle is beatiful and soothing. Others have mentioned this as well... to start out the game feels a bit hectic ... but it really isn't. And it impresses me how self-explanatory you guys (or girls) made this feel.

rosymaple 2022-10-10 09:07

Love the art, and I think you used the theme super well, but it felt a little weird that the different tiles didn't do different things *unless they did in which case I did not notice*

Loved the rocket at the end it really felt special !

amarokczukay 2022-10-10 10:04

your idea is super good! it was indeed mayhem for a long time, but i finally achieved to launch that rocket! graphics are nice and polished, and all the UI is well imagined. music was getting a bit irritating at long tho. however, very nice jam entry!

chocolat-endive 2022-10-10 13:47

What a nice little game! You managed to make a really good UI on this one. And that's quite hard to do for a game jam. The game mecanics are nice and work very well, the balancing seems perfect.

The only thing I would add is some kind of "DESTROY EVERYTHING" button. When you make a bad start, it's quite annoying to wait for every tile to appear if you want a fresh start, and it's easier to re-load the game. And it does'nt feel nice imho.

That's a very good game, congratulations to the whole team!

(and loved the ending, having a nice ending animation is always great)

senso 2022-10-11 10:48

Now this game has one of the best mechanics I played this year! Art is awsome ! Music good.

beetlebox 2022-10-11 10:55

Very nice game!

On one hand: * The UI is relatively intuitive, and it is clear you spent a lot of time picking out little details, such as [clicking the Hammer button a second time cancels the destroy operation]. For every piece of text on the screen, it was easy to understand why it was there and what it meant. * The graphics - wow! Very clean. I very much liked the touch in the ending animation where the rocket flew up, and you could see the top UI as you passed through it. That was a fun graphical twist. * Great use of the theme! I don't think I've seen any game like this in the LD. Very innovative to use a Rubik's cube like that!

On the other: * The transition between screens (the one where all the cubes scroll onto the screen) is graphically pretty, but made me feel a bit of nausea. There was a LOT of movement going on, and when movements like these don't at least have, say, a bit of motion blur, it really throws me off. Of course, motion blur can be a bit much to implement in the time one has for a game jam, but there are a bunch of other options that (I believe) might help combat this (at least, it helps me):

[1] Slower transitions can ease on motion sickness.

[2] If you could make it so that the transition doesn't cover the entire screen, that would be helpful

[3] Taking time between the inbound and outgoing transitions. (Say, the blocks fly in, and instead of immediately flying out, you wait a second or two with the blocks all staying in place)

* The rubik's cube mechanics sounded fun in theory, but I ended up not really using them at all. Buildings that left the playing field had a low chance of coming back anytime soon, and so it wasn't interesting to pay any attention to them. The game then effectively became the same as it would if whenever a Rubik's cube move happened, three completely random towers appeared in place of the three that left. I'm not very sure about what could be done in place of this. I saw that in one of your replies above, you mentioned that giving the player control over which faces would turn could be a little overpowered. I agree. Although, maybe giving the user partial control would be helpful? For instance, if you decided the next face turn had to be from right to left, but the player gets to decide which of the three layers of the cube do the turn? Maybe that could be fun. * I did have a couple issues with UI, where sometimes a building would appear, and it took more time than it should for me to understand what sort of building it is. In fact, I sometimes found myself having a lot less information than I would have liked. The UI on the top of the screen was useful, telling me how many of each material I'm creating per second. And the UI on the right was useful, because I could hover over a building and know what each one creates. But I very much would have liked to see that on-hover info on each of the buildings on the playing field. And you know what? If there was room for it, I would have liked to see all of that info at the same time. Like, I'd want to look at the playing field, and immediately know not only how many gold pieces I'm creating, but which buildings are making more, which could be making more but are dormant, and which are using gold pieces (and how many). I found myself wanting this information multiple times throughout the game, and had to resort to hovering over the UI on the right and memorizing many numbers in my head, which was not so fun.

Altogether, (even though I talked for days on end on the parts of the game I feel could have been improved upon) I very much enjoyed playing your game, and I'd most definitely come back if you ever upload a post-jam version!

matoux42 2022-10-11 14:57

I didn't expect the end, but it was cool

I think the game is cool, but it's a pitty that you do not gave more instruction in the game description, because the 2 first minutes, I was like "What the f... am I doing ", and then, after a while I understood everything, and it was okay

link270 2022-10-11 18:46

Cool game! I liked the resources, upgrades, and progression. The cube mechanic was cool and interesting, though I'm not sure if there was more to it than just rotating you currently available buildings? Could get really complex if you set it up so you get a bonus if all of a certain factory was on a full side or something, not sure if that would be fun or not haha but an idea. The graphics were fun and I enjoyed them. The game needs to usual game jam polish still, i.e. making it easier to tell if I can afford something by showing me how much I have in requirements for each building so I don't have to look up and try to find the resource I need, though it doesn't need a ton more polish. What I'm trying to say is it was really good! haha

My main complaint, was the music. It seemed okay, but felt like it was just a bunch of totally random notes played in a super short loop. Short loops like that aren't a problem, I use them in my game due to the time constraints we have haha however this one just never sounded right and got annoying pretty fast, which is a bit of an issue when the game can go on for a while.

Overall though, you got me to stick and play it until the end even with the music haha so really good job!!

asbjorn 2022-10-12 14:36

What a wonderful game!

The graphics and animation are top-notch. Props!

I really like the concept - probably because I'm partial to rubiks cubes already.

It could maybe have been explored a bit more. I really hoped that I would have been able to rotate the squares myself, and that their relative positions would have more importance than just what's visible to me.

On the first playthough, my run was ended by this bug: I dropped an engine factory on top of the item bar, and it just got stuck. I couldn't move it or pick up another engine factory (and I needed one to keep playing).

bug.png

So I reset the game. about to go play another round.

greenphox 2022-10-12 15:05

Really nice game! I loved the idea, it would get a little bit too chaotic, but it was really fun. Great, and very unique use of the theme. Well done! The cursor was a little bit strange on fullscreen.

maxds98 2022-10-12 15:05

Very good game! Really liked an idea of rubiks cube mechanic. But I have faced an issue with UI that not fit very well in screen space in WebGL build :( Screenshot 2022-10-12 at 17.57.25.png But anyway, nice job!

asbjorn 2022-10-12 15:19

yay.png

I did it! Yay!

I think the most interesting place for this game to go would be to integrate more rubiks cube stuff. Allowing the user to make their own moves is a great state. Cube rotations would be nice.

Maybe factory could need to be directly adjacent to the resources they consume. Maybe there's a bonus to solving the cube, or to solving a single face? /shrug just ideas...

@maxds98 This goes away if you full-screen the application. Same thing happens on my device.

raddipl 2022-10-12 15:26

Great game, it didn't take me long to beat it, but i had a lot of fun exploring the unique rubic cube-like mechanic :D

n-n 2022-10-12 15:27

I was able to launch a rocket  Quality game with nice graphics. Great job :thumbsup_tone1:

simplepotential 2022-10-12 16:37

I've played this several times and I haven't exactly figured out what I'm suppose to do, feels like a need a tutorial. That said, the art and sound were very well done. I just couldn't figure out what I was suppose to do after placing down tress/mines?

mara 2022-10-12 17:11

Awesome art, great execution of the theme and surprisingly deep. Well done!

bison-warlock 2022-10-12 18:35

what a fun game!! it took me a bit to figure out how to get started, but once i realized what to do, it was so much fun!! i liked that there wasn't anything immediately urgent with the 10 seconds, so the game had a relaxed pace and feel to it. i LOVE the art and the animation!!! CANDY FOR MY EYES! music was fun too!! it would've been neat to hear some kind of SFX for when the player places the different factories on the blocks. otherwise, this was a fantastic game and i really enjoyed it!

slimewizardrobyn 2022-10-12 18:45

Thought it was fun, the lack of a fail state made it feel a little too easy and the rubix cube aspect didn't really mesh with the gameplay loop all that well, but It was still a fun little game. Big 2000s flash game energy (complimentary)

nakami 2022-10-12 20:43

Great game like the "cube" concept, at first I was a bit confused not knowing if the hidden face were produccing or not, but I had a great time craking the game ^^

firesplash-entertainment 2022-10-12 21:16

This is a very cool concept, good arte, reasonable sound and a very neat animation in the end.

What I found confusing is, that obviously mines are producing alll the time, while factories seem to only produce while they are visible. This felt a bit weird.

After all a very good LD entry!

cerka 2022-10-13 08:34

Really nice game meachanics! Enjoyed the game, thanks!

nyrh 2022-10-13 09:36

Wow, what a nice idea, I'm loving the graphics and the polish too, really nice entry !

cobrajs 2022-10-13 10:07

The aesthetics of this game are awesome! I think it needed a little more explanation, as I was a bit confused on when things were producing (like, do they always produce? Do certain ones need to be next to others?), but once I got the hang of the mechanics it was fun progressing through the eras, and the rocket ship at the end was awesome! Music was cool, both repetitive and random at the same time. Well done!!

rob6566 2022-10-13 10:29

Loved the art, music and animations :) - this game felt really polished! I had the same problem as @maxds98 with webGL, with the edges getting cut off. I was a bit confused by the blocks in the bottom left. Not sure if I was meant to be trying to replicate them. Nice work getting this together in such a short time!

skel3ton 2022-10-13 20:22

that was very cool and quite original, at the beginning I was confused and it took me a while to realize what was actually happening and therefore I would improve some of the communication with the player.. but the truth is that I soon understood anyway. Graphics very nice music too and I enjoyed all the confusion in the raw materials. It was good that the game didn't punish me. When I messed something up, I just fixed it when I had the chance. I just had to play it longer :) Good job

ganny 2022-10-14 11:09

Nice entry! I had fun playing the game. Was a bit confused at first but the game name helped me understand later how the new "world" would look like. Innovative, beautiful game that I really enjoyed playing. Great work!

boodle 2022-10-14 14:26

Very good entry! The art especially was impressive, and it was interesting to see how the resource flow was altered when the cube shifted. Could make for a deeper strategy game if you're given more time, so you need to plan further ahead. As it was I just modified my sides on the fly for the most part and made sure to build new buildings on spots that weren't changing immediately afterwards.

I found the music a bit... intense, compared to the gameplay loop. Something more chill would probably suit the vibe of the artwork better.

amolker 2022-10-19 18:27

Really like the concept and graphics here, but I feel little frustrating trying to fight randomness here. I feel like there is a lack of tactics and strategy here, you just have to make necessary resources here and now.

But it is hard to balance things in such short time. In general, you made a good effort here, good job!

zimny11 2022-10-20 23:09

That are awesome game mechanics! Love the art style too. There is probably a lot you could do with that game mechanics. Buildings related to only some terrain, buildings that requires other buildings next to the to work, terrain obstacles, etc. Amazing game!
