loved the music and art! I thought it was turn based though in the beginning ... second level is really difficult
Thank you @velvetlobster . It actually is turn based, we only allow movement for convenience. Wait until you see level 18 ;) There are also more animal types! Btw you discovered a nice bug regarding the highscore - whenever a new highscore is made, it is saved but with the name of the previous highscore person. I just fixed it, since the highscore is nonsensical otherwise.
Nice classic puzzle with a cute-yet-deadly cats. Music makes me think about the rhodes-played SimCity 2000 theme, well done.
Lovely graphics and very nice puzzle mechanics
I played to level 12 and was completely enthralled the entire time. This is a brilliantly crafted puzzler that kept me interested and compelled to finish the next level. I absolutely loved it, even if it didn't match the theme all that well. Great work! :D
Thank you all! @samlecreator awesome! Yeah, the intention for the theme was, that you basically collect the animals to use them as a currency in exchange for treats. But we fell short on that, having conecntrated on the puzzle mechanic. I was no fan of the theme, i felt it was way too similar to the last one "sacrifices must be made", i guess that shows :D
Added MacOSX port recently.
Des graphismes très chouette, j'aime beaucoup !
Whoa, this is an incredibly smart puzzler with an incredibly cute coat of paint 😲
I actually lack words to describe how much I love your game. It's clever, it has a LOT of content, it has a Highscore board (I'm currently in first place, yay!(Nido)), the graphics are positively amazing, the jazzy soundtrack is super slick, the face of the cat after clearing a level is worth playing the game alone, you created a mood that makes it super easy to stick around and not get frustrated... Love, love, love. Even though, I could not make it past the level with the bird and the bunny at all.
The level of polish is absolutely outstanding. Your game is easily among the best ones!
Interesting concept. Easy to understand but creates some tricky levels. I really like the art. P.S.: Poor mice :_(
Great entry, I am not a fan of puzzle games (too much head scratching I guess :D) but this one had such a pleasant atmosphere that it captured me. Great puzzles a relaxing gameplay. :)
@purrseus thank you so much, that really makes me happy! :) We also have 2 people participating in their first jam, your comment is really motivating for them. And congrats to leading the score! I checked back to the level you mentioned. It actually got broken yesterday evening, the rabbit was moved 1 tile to the right. I fixed the level, it is solvable now. I am so sorry!
Such an adorable game! Love it!
Awesome game! Perfect art and perfect music! Good job, I think you will win!
A really solid entry with challenging puzzles! I loved everything about this! Great Job!
Really cool puzzle mechanic, simple concept but with a lot of depth. And lovely graphics, murdering small animals has never looked so adorable :p .
It's really cool!Grapics is cute! Gamepay is very intresting! Good job =)
Really cleverly designed puzzle game. Very impressive! :) You should link the LD page on your Itch.io page too, so people can rate it after playing! I looked you up manually, not everyone's going to do that and you might miss out on some good ratings.
Challenging and clever, I liked it! Some puzzles really made my brain engines turn :D I got stuck on one of the later levels and couldn't figure it out but the progress was fun! I would love to play more of this game and I'll definitely return to it. I enjoyed it all, graphics, music, level design ... Good job!
Awesome game, nice puzzle mechanics.
This is the cutest puzzle game I've seen in this jam so far. Love the graphics and the gameplay is so challenging and fun! Great work!
this is a really cool idea, and super polished! it's a clever concept for a puzzle, the difficulty scaling is really well-done, and i especially like the art (and the little animation for the cat being petted when you clear a level!)
An excellent puzzler with clever mechanics. I got stuck on level 7 unfortunately.
The art is cute , the animations liven it up well, and the music is relaxing. If I hadn't have gotten stuck, I would've enjoyed spending more time on it.
Thank you all, love your feedback!
@flaterectomy yeah some levels are pretty challenging. If you fail a level 3 times, a hint gets available. I think this is not working well, as many people just think about a solutions instead of failing over and over again. Hint: Animals move animals will ask other animals to move, if threatened (like in the 4 mice together level). This is not limited to mice ;)
A fun puzzle game! It was very challenging *for me* as well. I don't think the theme fits too well but I get what you were going for. Audio and visuals are great.
Good stuff! I managed to beat all levels! All animals work together well and makes for some pretty clever puzzle design. Hints can be cool but right now some of them are pretty much basic game mechanics which should probably just be explained to the player (like animals moving animals). I mostly struggled in the beginning, not because the puzzle was hard but because I didn't understand how some stuff worked.
This game is really interesting! I fell in love with the kitten! the art is so cute and the music is perfect. The puzzle was very polished and well designed. Congrats!
Dang, got stuck on level 16 but everything before that was super satisfying to figure out. Dunno what you did but the levels were just really engrossing and I just kept playing level after level. The puzzle design is super tight and I liked that I could see only 3 animals on the itch.io page. Tbh if I saw more animals I would've been overwhelmed and might not have kept going cuz the puzzles would just get so complex lol. This is an incredibly solid entry which wracked my brain a few times. I still remember the hamster game you guys did before, you guys are pretty good about trying new things and ideas.
Gameplay is fun and well thought out, cute graphics and animation :)
This is great feedback, thank you so much!
@silkworm-sweatshop Good job on finishing, i think you might be the second person to do that. Regarding the mechanics and hints - my intention was to convey each mechanic in a very simple level. Like, you can't pass level 3 unless you learn that the mouse will be stuck on the rock. The hint was for the case where i thought the player might have missed the "learning". The hint should not be too obvious, it's a hint after all and no solution. What would be very helpful for me is, if you could tell what didn't work out for you and what was not intuitively understandable. I'll try my best to improve on this.
@peachtreeoath Hehe, thank you, and good job! I tried to always ask something new of the player in each level, providing a different angle to already known mechanics. Awesome that you remember the hamster game (hamster habits), i'm really fond of it :D
@singrid thank you so much for the rating on itch.io!
Coming from my game:
Human cutting down trees: "Damn evil human!! 🤬"
Cat massacre every single animal in sight: "Aww that's so cute! 🥰"
===
Awesome game with cat, all 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
@rongo-matane I played again and checked out the hints (most of which I didn't even read the first time which actually shows that for the most part the game is very intuitive) and honestly, they were completely fine. Really the only one I originally had a problem with was the "animals moving animals" and even that one I noticed you actually did have a level which showed it pretty clearly (the one with the 4 mice) but I didn't connect it at the time for some reason and got stuck later on because I didn't realize I could push the bird with a mouse. So yeah, I actually feel like taking back my criticism for the most part because I really didn't have any problem figuring out any other mechanic as they came up.
Well polished puzzle game with good art and adoreable win window!
What a cute game! I liked those puzzles! I love cats also so GG!
Very cool puzzle game! I'm working on level 6 and looking forward to playing more! The stealth/pouncing mechanic is a great idea and allows for some really satisfying solutions.
Thank you for submitting your game to be played on my stream!
Once the stream is finished you can find the video here: https://www.twitch.tv/ursagames/videos If you want to know when it was played you can find your game in the queue here: https://tinyurl.com/y5rdokvp
@avavt hehe, exactly, it's all about the context :D You are the best!
@silkworm-sweatshop Ok, thank you for getting back at me.
@ursagames as always, i can only admire your patience!
Graphics in this game is incredibly amazing! Also the puzzle elements are really cool. I really like how all the animals behave and how they was used to create great puzzles. Cat is perfectly animated and petting the animal after completing the level is sooooo cute! This is awesome submission!
Really cool idea, great puzzles!
Cute game! I like animations and sound. Dead mouses are my favourites :)
Lovley game! Love the graphics and the "story", I have several cats myself and this is just plain funny!
Great little puzzle game. Love the graphics - especially when you stroke the kitty. ;)
Some sweet game this cat's bringing home! I got stuck on level 7 and then my puzzle sponge retired, but neat game nonetheless. The cat petting was the best part.
Hey great work!! A bit of a sadistic owner I guess, rewarding the cat for killing a bunny haha. It's fun, and It's great that you added the ranking board. Ranking on a puzzle game is something weird. The theme usage was a bit weak. Art and animation are top notch!
firefox_2019-05-04_13-27-12.png i got up there at least!~ Got stuck on level 15
I think it's very well polished game! It doesn't fit the theme in my opinion, but everything else was a superb effort!
Very polished and complete game! great pixel art and music. Loved the puzzle mechanic and the implementation of a high scores system. Currently stuck on level 15, but each new animal introduction helps keep the puzzles fresh, never getting dull. Well done!
UPDATE: This is the longest I've spent playing one LD44 game so far, and I'm happy to say I finally finished all 17 levels and made it to the leaderboards! Loved the game, even through all the frustration of level 15! Fluffensnuff-leaderboard.png
Gorgeous game. Adorable.
Thank you all, it is great to hear your feedback. It is awesome to watch you climb the leaderboard and come so far, even though it's really challenging.
@webox @pandan i fully agree, theme fell short on this one. We initially planned to have the animals you catch play a bigger role, delivering them home as a "present". You know, how the owners of a cat are supposed to be friendly towards the cat if it brings a dead bird, as this is a sign the cat cares. But this fell short, since the puzzle was already fine. A problem personally for me was also, that the theme was sooo close to the last one. I think there is something wrong when 90% of a jams game could also run under the theme of the last jam :(
@rosypenguin woooow :D No one has played as long as you did, none of our games. This is great and really rewarding for us! And your score is very good! You played at least 1h 40 minutes, that's crazy. I'm very interested in your feedback of level 15. In case anyone else is interested, this is the level 15.png Looking easy enough, but actually being really hard. What was your main source of frustration? Was it knowing what you need to solve the level, but not being able to maneuver the animals to reach that? I'm asking because this is what i've seen a few times. There are actually a few ways to solve the level, one among them i did really not intend or foresee :D
@rongo-matane Wow, great work implementing detailed analytics for your game! Level 14 was the most difficult level for me for sure. I had trouble visualizing how to come about with the solution despite there being so few elements in the level.
*SPOILERS* I spent about a hundred moves experimenting with ways to pin the rabbit and found the solution by sandwiching the rat between the bush and rock and coming at the rabbit from the left. So I restarted the level before finishing it to try to make that exact maneuver in as few moves as possible. This was the frustrating part, where I knew what the solution was but couldn't get it in a low number of moves (I think the levels before were around 10-30 moves). I replayed this level so many times already knowing the solution, but eventually I "gave up" and accepted a solution of 80+ moves to move on haha.
Fluffensnuff17456.png
Incredible game! Every level was fun and unique, and I couldn't stop playing until I beat all 17 of them and earned a spot on the leaderboard! Many of them looked so simple and yet were so challenging to play through, which is always ideal when designing a puzzle game. A lot of the solutions required out-of-the-box thinking that ultimately taught you lessons which you could utilize later in the game- like you can move birds away from seeds by "pushing" them with mice, or use rocks to offset a rabbit's 2-block movement pattern so you could get them to a certain place where you would need them later in the puzzle. The general concepts on display here were very innovative, and it's impressive to be able to build a unique and challenging puzzler from the ground up in just 3 days! The theme was relatively weak here, but the game is still wonderful regardless! The graphics were so detailed and polished that I had a hard time believing that both they and the imaginative and thought-out levels were made and combined in such a short period of time! The music was great as well, although I didn't love the fact that it permanently changed to a different track after only one loop through the original track. The cutesy atmosphere works really well here. Overall, great job, and congrats on being my third 5-star-rated game!
@rosypenguin thank you, yes this is what i thought. For this level i inteded for the player to figure out to get the mouse between the bush and the rock. This is the "usual" difficulty, but the movement to that state is more difficult i think. Maybe i'll change it post-jam, to make the movement a bit easier, but add a level where the movement is difficult like there. The analytics are not so detailed, i just know when your leadserboard entry was created and updated last (after finishing the first and last level respectively). The other things i got from playtesting in the team, or with friends later.
@purfexinator Wow, congratulations, you are better than me at the game :D It is strange to say, but i feel proud for everyone who makes it through the game (and even more so with an incredible score like yours). I'm so happy that the puzzle design worked for you as i intended it, you really wrote it down well. I was also surprised with how quick we went playable. After 4 hours the first level was playable, all mouse levels on the first day. On monday i went showering and came back with 2 new level ideas (rabbit against 2 rocks, rabbit against mous+rock) that were implemented in 5 minutes and refined/playtested in 30 minutes each. So it really went fast. For the first time in any of my jams we were 2 programmers, and @m2e is very skilled, so i could focus a bit more on design. Using Godot instead of libGDX also helped a ton with productivity. Regarding the music: was the second track just not that enjoyable to you, or would you have liked it to switch back to the first one after some time? The intention was to start lighthearted, but then get in a more "thinky/study" mood for the harder levels. But this didn't work out i think, because it is time based and players spend a wide range of time in the game, some only 5 minutes, some an hour+.
Great level design and graphics, a minor detail that i think would be really satisfying is if the cat did a purr noise when you complete the stage and it's being petted
It is cool ! But I have not finish the game because I don't understand the level( The first level with a bird and a mouse).
@edevjogos I agree wholeheartedly! We had a cat voice actor and a lot of cool cat sounds, but none did fit well into the game. Recording purring sounds might be the hardest thing I can imagine sound wise. Before we could rerecord, time was up and we needed to submit. But it is something we need to get in post-jam!
@pierre-cilluffo you have to approach the mouse from the high grass and then move towards it. It cannot see you, otherwise it will run. There is also a hint in-game that is available if the level restarted three times.
Yeah this is a great entry! Very nicely designed puzzles, had me hooked for a while.
Thanks for submitting your game for me to play on my livestream!

Great game! I couldn't get past level 15, but there were quite a few difficult levels that almost beated me before that. Though some of the hint were quite helpfull. It would be nice if you can also select individual levels.
Another cat game. This truly is the LD of the cat. And such a cure cat at that.
@mika-la-grand You got really far, i hope that also the difficult levels were fun, or at least satisfying when solved :D - i really like your proposal. This is something i thought about, but found no time to implement. I'll definitely add this to a post jam version, but only after the jam ended.
@elysiagriffin Thank you for playing, it was really fun to watch. Your engagement with the developers of the games you play and the chat in general is something i really enjoyed in your stream, that really stood out to me. Looking forward to the next time!
Absolutely amazing game! There were a lot of levels that I could improve my move count on, but I managed to get the highscore (for now)!
fluffen2.png
The mechanics are very clever, and I would love to see more. Three things I would recommend adding are an undo button, a level select, and possibly an option to hold down a key for continued movement.
@stevenjmiller Just saw you on the top of the board, amazing! You are the best of 160+ players so far. Your recommendations are very good, i agree 100% and will add this in a post jam version. I'm also thinking about new mechanics with other animals, and more levels with existing animals.
Great puzzle, fellow cat jammers :D ! I loved the mechanics soo much! Such an original idea. I'll come back to play again. The graphics are adorable and the music perfect.
This game is downright adorable. And super clever! I really enjoyed trying to puzzle things out, and it was a nice touch to put the "best number of moves" leader at the end of every level. :)
On top of that, the art is super cute and is in service of the gameplay. Everything here is neat, tidy, and easy to understand.
Although, I might be a bit stupid...I couldn't get past lvl 8. :\ I tried using the hint too, but I just couldn't understand how to capture the bird without alerting it. My understanding is that it will only go where the seed is. And if the seed is 2 squares away from the nearest hidey-bush, then I just can't get to it. Maybe I missed something here?
Other than my own stupidity, this was a fantastic game!
@coleslaughter Thank you, it is great that you had fun! You are on the right track with level 8. This is one of two levels that tends to be a hurdle for many players. The key is that animals will move animals, if they can. So, if the mouse want's to flee from you but the bird is in the way, the bird will also move to make room for the mouse. This generally holds true for all animals. So, you can move the bird to the grass patch by pushing him with the mouse. I intended the level with multiple mice to teach that to players, but the levels i not effective in teaching it, as the player doesn't need to understand the mechanic to solve that 4 mice level.
