| Aug 13 03:07:24 | Blockie | ♥ 1 | Nice simple idea, and well executed. It feels like playing the Atari 2600 game Saving Mary, but from Mary's perspective. | |
| Aug 13 03:18:46 | 11m 22s | Running out of Space | ♥ 1 | Great idea. My only suggestion would be to increase the difficulty, since it starts getting a little monotonous towards the end. |
| Aug 13 03:37:31 | 18m 45s | wat do? | ♥ 1 | Agreed about the movement sensitivity making some of the levels frustrating, but apart from that this is a very cool and interesting idea for a platformer mechanic! |
| Aug 13 03:51:17 | 13m 46s | Get Off My Boat, You! | ♥ 1 | Didn't understand how to control it at first, but I really liked it when I figured it out. The art style gives it a very cool look. |
| Aug 13 04:09:43 | 18m 26s | Zlinx | ♥ 2 | Great controls, and great fun figuring out the fastest route in each level. I had the most difficulty with the first water level, but I liked how the music picked up right as you neared the end :) |
| Aug 13 06:36:32 | 2h 26m | Stack City | ♥ 0 | Really funny idea, but I couldn't tell whether I was doing well or not. |
| Aug 13 08:31:43 | 1h 55m | Space Cargo | ♥ 0 | Fun game, and quite intense with the fuel always ticking down. It seems like there are so many goods that the chances of finding a planet to sell them are pretty low, so I wound up wasting a lot of fuel just flying around with unwanted cargo. My best run was 4400. Is there any color coding of the planets to let you know what kind of goods they have or want? I think that would be useful if there isn't already. |
| Aug 13 08:40:27 | 8m 44s | Personal Bubble | ♥ 1 | I like the look a lot, and it's fun to fly around, but the camera clipping through the wall does make it tough to navigate the small room. |
| Aug 13 08:53:35 | 13m 08s | Velocity Square | ♥ 0 | I like the short snappy levels. The character has a lot of momentum on it, and it can feel like it's just bouncing around out of your control, which makes some of the levels frustrating. |
| Aug 13 08:59:01 | 5m 26s | Croatan | ♥ 1 | Very nice atmosphere, and good storytelling. |
| Aug 13 09:20:49 | 21m 48s | Depot | ♥ 2 | This is a very solid game. It's well balanced to be fun and challenging, and keeping the rules straight is a fun mental balancing act. |
| Aug 13 09:29:57 | 9m 08s | 42 Pillars of Stone | ♥ 1 | I like the interpretation of the theme. It's very funny to kill an orc and trap yourself behind a wall of statues. |
| Aug 13 09:43:58 | 14m 01s | Gü hunters | ♥ 1 | This is really fun, and the variety in the levels is cool. |
| Aug 13 09:57:09 | 13m 11s | LD42: Past the Edge of Space | ♥ 0 | The story seemed to switch between action and exposition so much that I wasn't really sure what it was about and couldn't keep track of the plot. |
| Aug 13 10:05:58 | 8m 49s | Rhythm Doodle | ♥ 1 | Nice idea. It seemed like the when I tried to move on beat I would sometimes go early and get hurt, so I started moving after the beat, but it feels less satisfying. It's quite tough to deal with the cop when you're forced to backtrack and your whole plan is thrown into shambles. |
| Aug 13 10:20:57 | 14m 59s | A blob with a destination - LD42 | ♥ 1 | I like the variety of the ideas, but it's very hard to judge the jump trajectory, which makes the lack of air control frustrating. I also ran into some physics issues where bounces would send me in unexpected directions, or I'd lose momentum in mid air. |
| Aug 13 10:27:41 | 6m 44s | TightFloe | ♥ 1 | Very sad to play, but good job building atmosphere. |
| Aug 13 11:48:28 | 1h 20m | DOS: Deletion (of) Old Stuff | ♥ 1 | Nice unique platformer. Each level felt like you had to figure out something new, and it always felt good when you finally got it. The trick to the boss level is especially clever. I also like the song, but I don't like the death sound because it hurts my ears. |
| Aug 13 12:00:09 | 11m 41s | Spacecraft OS 8 | ♥ 1 | This is a great idea. I love how you really have to plan your use of the systems very carefully. I agree with others that it is very hard, though. |
| Aug 13 12:11:51 | 11m 42s | Eject Tape | ♥ 2 | Wow, I really like this. The theme is very clever and unique, the character animation is great, and the music and sound effects really give it a memorable mood. My only critique is that there's not much depth to the gameplay, but I really enjoyed this entry anyway. |
| Aug 13 13:56:00 | 1h 44m | Book Crook! | ♥ 2 | I really like the idea of a game about collecting rare books. The mechanics are pretty thin, but it's fun to read the titles at the end of the game. |
| Aug 13 14:07:58 | 11m 58s | Another Summer Run | ♥ 1 | I like the bear animations. I noticed that at 16:9 you can see the edge of the ice before new ice pops in, but at 4:3 it works fine. |
| Aug 13 14:18:18 | 10m 20s | Gretchen's Head | ♥ 1 | You really outdid yourself with the story. The levels didn't have any real challenge, but the reward at the end really makes it all worth it. |
| Aug 13 15:26:03 | 1h 07m | PLUNDER | ♥ 1 | I like collecting the items and reading the descriptions, but the items are too rare. I had to do tons of runs without finding anything new. The running animation is really good. |
| Aug 13 17:06:58 | 1h 40m | grindatron.tv | ♥ 1 | This is quite fun, and the AI is fun to watch even when they make bad decisions. I especially like how you can stand on your opponent's head to be the last one to fall. |
| Aug 14 01:15:21 | 8h 08m | Planetoid | ♥ 1 | I like navigating with the gravity of the planets and the sprites are really nice. It felt like the charge was a little slow for dealing with enemies, though. I kept getting swarmed before I had time to charge up. Also, with headphones on the sound effects are quite loud and harsh on the ear compared to the music. The music is nice, though :) |
| Aug 14 01:24:42 | 9m 21s | Walls Closing In | ♥ 1 | Nice short horror game. The setting of the scene is well done and I like how it uses the simple repetitive environment to play tricks on you. |
| Aug 14 01:50:30 | 25m 48s | Into the Light | ♥ 1 | I like the walking animation at the beginning and the fade out on the light bulb at the end. Along with the music, it sets the mood very well. It would be nice to have some sound effects. The eyeballs are creepy. |
| Aug 14 03:27:57 | 1h 37m | Put What Where? | ♥ 1 | This is a nice mix of pattern recognition, memory, and quick mouse interactions. I think the mechanic is well implemented, but it gets off to such a slow start that each game feels like it goes on a little too long. |
| Aug 14 05:46:18 | 2h 18m | Volcano Escape | ♥ 1 | I like all the work you did on having lots of variety in enemies, powerups, and level designs, but the physics could use some more polish. I think it would be more fun to have a bigger jump, but fewer air jumps, since it wouldn't be so mashy and you'd have to think more carefully about when and where to use your jumps. |
| Aug 14 05:58:13 | 11m 55s | Little Rocket | ♥ 0 | I had fun, but the balance feels off since I was able to mostly sit still and listen to the music. The song is nice though :) |
| Aug 14 07:27:12 | 1h 28m | Last Land Heroes | ♥ 1 | I like this mechanic, and having multiple unlockable characters is a very cool feature. I found that the enemies weren't really aggressive enough, though. I was able to get to wave 20 by just running back and forth across the main platform and mashing attack. |
| Aug 14 07:44:37 | 17m 25s | HANA | ♥ 2 | Really great style and an interesting mechanic. The level designs get quite challenging, too. |
| Aug 14 10:16:53 | 2h 32m | Sinking | ♥ 1 | I like the level design, but the air jump and dash are very inconsistent. It seems almost random when you press the button whether you will get your jump or not. |
| Aug 14 10:48:49 | 31m 56s | Big Crunch | ♥ 1 | I love this. It feels like the asteroids are appearing at just the right speed to test your reactions, and the difficulty ramps up at the right pace. The leaderboard is also a great feature (managed to snag 1st for now!). I would agree that an option to invert the y axis could be helpful since I kept getting it wrong at first. I also thought that the snap on the view is a little too fast, since I was getting a little queasy when I had to feather the keys to make a tight angle. |
| Aug 14 11:17:42 | 28m 53s | Kanaveral | ♥ 0 | It took me a while to get it, but it was fun to figure out what to do, and I managed to launch the satellite :) There seems to be a problem with too many audio sources because there's some bad clipping, especially when you blow up. |
| Aug 15 07:23:12 | 20h 05m | Rigid Flame | ♥ 1 | There's a nice tradeoff between offensive use of the flame and keeping your maneuverability open. It's a well executed mechanic. I also really liked the work put into the animation of the flame expanding. |
| Aug 15 07:58:12 | 35m 00s | Choose Them up | ♥ 1 | Nice looking game, and I like the idea of the upgrade system, but I found it tricky to play. Holding the stick in one direction, shots would spray out at different angles, and it just made it really hard to dial in any accuracy, and not very satisfying to play. |
| Aug 15 08:46:46 | 48m 34s | "glow" Our first game Jam! | ♥ 1 | Fun marble game. The visuals are quite nice, and I especially like the background terrain, but I thought the reflective ball made it hard to judge position in some cases. The final level felt out of place since it was a slow deliberate type of level after the previous levels had been gradually adding more speed and acrobatic elements. I thought the minimalist soundscape was neat, so the lack of music didn't bother me, but a ball rolling sound would've been nice as another indicator of speed. |
| Aug 15 09:00:22 | 13m 36s | VCR STAR | ♥ 2 | I like it when games emulate the physical controls of machines, so this was quite fun. The video captures the Saturday morning cartoon vibe really well, although having it on loop does start making you feel a little crazy :) |
| Aug 16 12:27:31 | 27h 27m | Eterneroids | ♥ 1 | I like the use of the theme and the variety of enemies. Overall a fun shooter. There are some real optimization problems, though. Around 6,000 points the game went into slow motion and by the time I got to 11,500 points it was almost unplayable. Kind of fun to play in slow motion though. It makes dodging bullets much easier :) |
| Aug 16 12:49:21 | 21m 50s | Giant Sun | ♥ 1 | I enjoyed this, and I managed to get 8th place on the leaderboard! I thought it was fun and very tense trying to manage both meters when they tick down so quickly. That made it a little frustrating, though, when you land right next to an item and can't walk over to it. It felt like sometimes a planet had really high gravity and you would snap back down onto it if you tried to jump up and move over a bit, and sometimes two planets would be close together and as soon as you jumped off one, you'd snap to the other. Getting caught in situations like that wasn't fun, but when you have a good run going, it feels good to play. |
| Aug 16 13:39:18 | 49m 57s | Garbage Gods | ♥ 2 | Nice game, and really nice art. I like the idea of making waste management a central mechanic in a city builder type game, even if the mechanics weren't fully fleshed out yet. |
| Aug 16 13:48:44 | 9m 26s | Color Space | ♥ 1 | I really like the idea of this kind of puzzle element in a shooter. I thought it was a little hard to actually plan your shots, though, since the edges aren't always on screen and so many blocks tend to bunch up together. I think it could be an awesome game if some of those issues could be balanced out. |
| Aug 16 14:04:10 | 15m 26s | Dora De'athsplorer | ♥ 1 | Great job on this entry. It's a lot of fun to play, and it feels like the difficulty ramps up at a good pace. My big problem was judging the rocks' hitboxes. Both of my high score runs died to a tricky rock that I didn't time the jump correctly. I did manage to get second place on the leaderboard, though :) I also found that if you play for a long time the music stops, which was a shame because I really enjoyed it. |
| Aug 16 15:42:56 | 1h 38m | Tiny Kingdom Builder | ♥ 2 | Great idea and execution. It feels like a very fully realized game with a lot of polish, and it's a great synthesis of its inspirations. The only trouble I had was with some of the end of move detection logic. Sometimes a turn won't end because you can still swap your held piece, even if that held piece can't be placed either, and once I absentmindedly swapped in a piece that couldn't be placed and it didn't detect I was out of moves or let me swap it back, so I had to let the timer run out. Just a minor bug, though, in a very impressive entry. |
| Aug 17 11:54:41 | 20h 11m | Space Escape | ♥ 1 | I would definitely play a match 3 game about flying a space ship. With some more depth to the mechanics I think it could be really cool. I also thought the music was quite fun :) |
| Aug 17 12:04:45 | 10m 04s | Floating Island | ♥ 0 | There is something that's simply fun about watching bits of the island sink away under the water. Great use of procedural terrain and nice polish on the graphics. Fun to play with even if it's hard to know what the buildings are actually doing. |
| Aug 17 12:27:16 | 22m 31s | Dystopia Tycoon | ♥ 1 | Great polish and presentation, and feels very complete mechanically. The game taking place on a little isometric board makes me think that this could be for city builders what Into the Breach is for turn based tactics games. |
| Aug 17 12:40:10 | 12m 54s | Flood | ♥ 1 | I like the way the flood mechanic makes you think about the terrain height. Good job on the variety of enemies and weapons as well. At first I expected the flood to stay forever, and you'd have to keep finding higher and higher ground each time it rose. I can see how that would have been harder to implement in a jam, but it might make it feel like there is more progression to the game instead of hanging out in the same safe place the whole time. |
| Aug 17 12:54:41 | 14m 31s | A Hundred Dogs | ♥ 0 | This is a very chaotic game. It's sad that the dogs die, but I guess I can understand. I like the look of the limited color palette, but when there are so many dogs, and items, and messages popping up, it does get hard to distinguish things from each other. |
| Aug 17 13:04:17 | 9m 36s | CLOZURE | ♥ 0 | Really like the look of this, and nice music as well. I had the same problem with the jump button being very inconsistent, which made the game very hard to play. I also died several times when I was just standing at the computer and I didn't know why. |
| Aug 17 13:24:01 | 19m 44s | Balloon Critter | ♥ 1 | Good job on your first entry. I really like the walking animation on the balloon. I how the mechanics balance going fast and potentially missing pickups versus slowing down and potentially being to slow to get to the end. I thought there was not quite enough horizontal control to be able to react to the obstacles at speed, though. |
| Aug 17 13:52:06 | 28m 05s | Vupu | ♥ 0 | Great game! The character sprite extremely good, the controls are great, and the level is very challenging and interesting to learn. The dash jump is extremely powerful and feels great to fly through the level when you know exactly what jumps to make. I found some of the hitboxes to be a little to harsh, especially on the round enemies. It felt like I was dead before I touched them sometimes. I'd also say that I don't like it when holding jump causes a jump to come out. Several times I died because I was holding jump to get up a ledge and as soon as I got over the top the I launched straight up into spikes. Oh, nice music as well :) |
| Aug 17 14:06:59 | 14m 53s | Dropa Poker | ♥ 1 | It's a great concept, and I like card games and puzzle games, so I enjoyed it, but I had some of the same trouble as others have mentioned. Once I read your comments I was able to play the game, but I still think it could be made clearer. I think that having A and K would be more immediately readable when trying to parse the screen, and having a couple more example images of hands on the title screen would help to get a feel for the logic. It seems like audio is only coming out of the left channel in the windows build, by the way. |
| Aug 17 15:32:52 | 1h 25m | HELP: The Illuminati captured my family and are forcing me to make this game | ♥ 1 | Really impressed by the amount of unique writing for the different scenarios. It's quite a slog to try and get through 10 billion people, but I guess that's the point. Funny game, and good unique entry. |
| Aug 17 18:52:35 | 3h 19m | Datacell: a dungeon crawl | ♥ 0 | Once I understood how the items stacked the inventory management became an interesting puzzle. I like the convenience of mousing over the items to see their stats. I think it would look a little cleaner if the characters didn't stack on top of each other, but just showed one character per grid cell like a traditional roguelike. The health is also hard to read since it can be covered by the dungeon graphics. |
| Aug 17 23:07:29 | 4h 14m | Too Rich Ed | ♥ 1 | I like the drawing at the end :) |
| Aug 18 14:21:45 | 15h 14m | Senbir | ♥ 1 | I'll echo everyone's sentiment that this is massively ambitious and impressive, not just to make a full simulated CPU and assembler for a 48 hour game jam, but to get as far as implementing a sequence of tutorial levels and documentation pages for it. Very cool. However, I'll also echo the sentiment that even with assembly programming experience, I was unable to make any headway in this game. Basic things like what base the arguments should be provided in, which direction bits and bytes are counted from, etc. were not clear. I also had the bug where the computer's power light doesn't show up, and there's no reticle in mouse capture mode so I couldn't even tell if I had turned the computer on or not. I know you wanted the game to be about discovering how to use the computer, but for as complex as a CPU architecture can be, it's hard to expect people to try to comprehend the documentation and work it out by trial and error (not to criticize your documentation, but anything produced in a 48 hour sleep deprived state is going to be a little all over the place). For example, in the blinkenlights tutorial the hint merely says "you pretty much NEED to start off with a DATAC or SET operation" but it's unclear to me why that is. Shouldn't this command SETDATA 0 0 0100000000000000000000 accomplish the correct thing? From my reading it should shift the argument into the correct place to be read by the monitor, but it doesn't work and I don't know why. I think it's awesome you made this, and I think there's a lot of places you could go with it. I'm a big fan of Zachtronics' assembly puzzle games, and I've even shown the game Human Resource Machine to non-programmers and had them enjoy it a lot, so I think this is an idea worth pursuing as long as it could be made less opaque. |
| Aug 18 14:44:20 | 22m 35s | Tomb Robbers 3: Curse of the Pharaoh | ♥ 1 | Enjoyed this a lot. Learning the sequence of the walls coming in and planning your route around them is a fun and unique type of platformer level design. The last level was especially enjoyable to figure out. Great sounds too. |
| Aug 18 14:58:11 | 13m 51s | Orbital Chaos | ♥ 0 | This is a really nice design with a great risk reward mechanic. I imagine that with some more tasks to accomplish and resources to manage, it could be expanded into a very fun finished product! |
| Aug 19 15:31:24 | 24h 33m | LANDESCAPE | ♥ 1 | I really like how all the ships streaming by towards the tower gives a sense of narrative. The minimal visuals are well done and the music is nice. The cutscene at the end is a nice touch. |
| Aug 19 15:36:44 | 5m 20s | pushes you | ♥ 1 | The controls were confusing since some of the WASD keys would work, but not others. The mechanic is nice and simple. Reminds me of the Mario Party minigame. |
| Aug 19 15:50:06 | 13m 22s | Alchemy Factory | ♥ 1 | This seems like a great idea. It was fun figuring out what went together, although it could be hard to remember them all. I think this could be a lot of fun with all the different effects that different combinations could have. One thing I'd suggest is allowing matches to go just a little bit farther than direct contact, since the physics engine can be unpredictable. |
