UI Buttons stopped working after first defeat D:
I love that it's not just a "twin stick shooter". The pushing mechanic and the fact that the enemies' shots can push each other makes for interesting plays.
Simple and effective. I was confused at first because S and D moved the player, but W and A did nothing. The arrow keys worked though. Once I figured out the controls it was alright and I had fun blasting enemies off the edge of the screen.
It seems there are a few positions you can get in where it's completely unrecoverable no matter what, which could be a fun gameplay element if balanced properly. However, there are some instances where you spawn in such a position or get screwed into such a position by enemies randomly spawning in the wrong places, which is a little frustrating.
I like the general concept though and I think if you decide to do some post-LD refinement/expansion (Level design with obstacles? Power ups? New enemy types? New weapon types? Anything that adds more to the concept) this could turn into a really nifty game.
It's a nice concept, the enemy shoots makes the game hard, it needs more polish, the buttons stop working and there is not a tutorial or a key guide. Nice implementation of the theme. Keep it up! :)
The controls were confusing since some of the WASD keys would work, but not others. The mechanic is nice and simple. Reminds me of the Mario Party minigame.
The bug with the WASD keys made this almost unplayable. I tried it again once I saw everyone's comments and that made it much better to use the arrow keys.
Other then the bugs with the controls and the UI buttons not working after your first failure the game was pretty fun. The core concept is solid, it just needs a little more variety.
Nice entry but gues need more improove on few stuff (UI/UX). Keep it up.
Good job for your entry, @dimesto52! :) I have to say that for a Compo game you did pretty well. It's just pretty sad that there is no music / sounds, but I don't know how to make them, so I don't blame you :).
Great game! Very cool and interesting! :D
Meh
I hope that next time you have a working UI and WASD controls.
Like others have stated, the game is a little broken concerning the UI and controls, but playing with the arrow keys is fine. Once you get used to it, it's actually pretty fun and challenging. The visuals are obviously more on the simple side, but they get the job done. Could really be a neat multiplayer game, or even singleplayer if you introduce some more gameplay elements.
I like the idea here, but it could use a more polish - sound, more graphical feedback, maybe some general balance tweaks. Really cool to see that there's multiplayer but (as is sadly often the case in Ludum Dare) I never got into a game - not sure if it wasn't working, or if there was no one online to match with.
Did you opt out of the wrong category by accident? I see the "audio" category but not "graphics", which seems backwards to me.
PS for folks having trouble with WASD controls, you can remap the controls in the launcher - it defaults to ZQSD, which is the WASD equivalent on AZERTY (ie, French) keyboards. When I think of it (which I didn't this LD, for my own part) I usually try to make my games support *both* keyboard layouts as that's usually pretty trivial to do.
