| Aug 13 10:06:52 | Out Of Personal Space | ♥ 1 | Graphically, this game really impresses me: the city is big and varied, there's a ton of different citizen models, and the style is quirky and works well. One small issue: there should be a skybox, a pure black sky doesn't really mesh. Making the game around the concept of personal space is also unique, which helps it stand out. However, I couldn't understand how to actually play the game - there's no feedback in whether you're doing good or bad, the different auras have no explanation behind them, I couldn't figure out what I was supposed to do after revealing their auras. I advise you to write a bit more about the game in the description, so other players can jump into the game with a bit more knowledge of what is going on. π | |
| Aug 13 10:29:17 | 22m 25s | Mass Coalesce | ♥ 1 | Extremely polished, with a lovely art style and music. A definitive 5 star for me! |
| Aug 13 10:34:41 | 5m 24s | Oh no! This is monsters! | ♥ 1 | Really solid experience! Really fun, really fits the theme. The weapons are very effective, but visually feel weak - a bit of a screen shake and flashier/bigger explosions (specially for the rocket launcher) would go a good way to make the player feel their power - as it is, the graphics really hide the real power they contain. |
| Aug 13 10:44:36 | 9m 55s | Get off my shelf! | ♥ 1 | Really well polished, playing around with the physics based movement is really fun! I also like the presentation of the game, the main menu specially! Great entry, congrats! π |
| Aug 13 10:58:21 | 13m 45s | Memory Fault | ♥ 1 | Unfortunately, for some reason, I can't talk to Lucy again after I get my phone back - and everyone else just says "Hi Ben!" Maybe I'm doing something wrong. In any case, the idea that you have limited memory "space" is really unique, quite the interesting way to run with the theme! |
| Aug 13 11:05:00 | 6m 39s | The Amazing Shrinking Game | ♥ 2 | Graphics could use some work, but the sense of scale of the game board is surprisingly intact! The game feels a bit too RNG-based, depending on whether gameboardd size resets appear plentifully near you or not - but a really solid concept that was really well implemented! |
| Aug 13 11:33:09 | 28m 09s | Running Away | ♥ 1 | `S P A C E | O U T O F S P A C E` π That got a laugh out of me, thanks! Short, but cute. Jumping among planets was fun. π I also enjoyed the music and the graphics - the little astronaut boy had a really nice design! |
| Aug 13 11:50:06 | 16m 57s | Running out of Memory Space | ♥ 0 | Really creative use of the mechanics! I agree with the others that, for a puzzle game, there needs to be one or two more intro levels that allow the player to easily discover what can be accomplish with the Undo move (personally, I was only able to understand how to advance past the 3rd level thanks to the GIF showing the solution, only then did it click in my mind). |
| Aug 13 11:55:22 | 5m 16s | Claustrophobia | ♥ 1 | Short and sweet, the Game Boy graphics are *perfect* (I tried it myself, but I'm not really great at drawing, I need to train more). The pixel are is really cute! π Some sounds and music would really pull everything together! |
| Aug 13 12:54:47 | 59m 25s | οΌ’ο½ο½ο½ο½ ο½οΌο½ο½ | ♥ 1 | Oh man, taking inspiration from Spirited Away was an awesome idea! π I love it! Unfortunately, I have no idea how to actually play the game - it's pretty confusing, and the in-game help doesn't actually help much at all... Still, I'm in love with the idea! π |
| Aug 13 13:39:01 | 44m 14s | Pyyrolysis | ♥ 2 | 6 degrees of movement, nice! Really well implemented, the game plays really nice. Also love the mood of the game, alone in a weird spacecraft, only with the vague sounds of machinery and static - looking out the window and seeing the vast darkness of space and the spacecraft... The cleaner's design clashes a bit with the rest of the aesthetics though, I would use something different. Great entry! π |
| Aug 13 13:57:30 | 18m 29s | Humanagement | ♥ 1 | Really stressful, but in a good way. I really like the idea of typing as a game mechanic, and something like this can be used to train to touch type even. Part of me wishes that the IDs were more easily readable (something closer to a username than just random letters), maybe that would be cool as a difficulty option. Some other QoL changes would be the ability to use backspace, to be able to select humans without the need of the mouse, and an indication as to how much time does each human have before corrupting. Graphically, it gets the job done, but there's two things that could help it stand out: * Some elements are a bit misleading: I first thought you had much more space in the left box for humans, suddenly running out of space when only the first line was complete took me by surprise. Rethinking how the UI is laid out would help. * Making the game look like and old MS-DOS terminal application would really give it a characteristic feel that I think fits really well with the gameplay. It would also mean that the font used would be far easier to read. A really, really solid entry overall, nice job! π |
| Aug 13 14:14:46 | 17m 16s | Downfall | ♥ 0 | The sea looks gorgeous! And, overall, graphically, the game looks nice. I also like the effect when going into slow motion, the music sounds particularly nice. Gamplay wise, I wish there was some more interaction between the game and the player - otherwise, it's just up to random chance whether we can climb a lot or not. Maybe let players pick up and throw blocks, to let them build their own structures? Or somehow influence how blocks fall? As it is, most of the game is spent waiting for the blocks to fall in a way that helps you - and, in part due to the large size of the island, the vast majority of the time they won't. |
| Aug 13 14:33:56 | 19m 10s | Gone in dark cave | ♥ 1 | Love the artwork for the game, has a really distinct style that is really pleasing to look at and makes everything clear. The game is also pretty fun, though sounds and music are sorely lacking. The mechanics are really good, and the game feels surprisingly fair in its difficulty. Great work! |
| Aug 13 14:53:40 | 19m 44s | Super Crate Hoarder | ♥ 1 | A really good arcade-y shooter! Controls are buttery smooth, and the weapons have a really satisfying feel to them! Graphically, the sprites look great, but the lack of any tiles makes for a weird mix-match. |
| Aug 13 15:03:11 | 9m 31s | Getting Some Space | ♥ 1 | A very different concept of what a game is, glad to see such an entry here. The art looks beautiful, and while short, the music makes for a really relaxing experience. |
| Aug 13 15:16:26 | 13m 15s | Dying Planet | ♥ 1 | It's a bit hard to read the tutorial messages while trying to play at the same time - but it's fairly easy to figure out how to win after losing once or twice. I like how small the planet is, and making it become even smaller is a nice way to fit the theme. Graphics are cute, but lack of any sound definitively hurts the game. Still, a really good entry! Just be sure to fix the issue that has been brought up. π |
| Aug 13 15:26:05 | 9m 39s | CrashΒ·Data | ♥ 2 | Love the old Macintosh aesthetic! It was implemented perfectly. The game plays really well and is really fun, a definitive standout! Only one thing bothers me, though: the permanently delete window is (or at least appears to be) completely random. So whether or not it is useful is up to the RNGods. Maybe having it as a power-up, rather than just randomly appearing somewhere random? Or letting us move the window somehow? In any case, amazing entry! |
| Aug 13 15:36:35 | 10m 30s | Spatris | ♥ 1 | An interesting take of an old classic. Works surprisingly well! The ambiance and music left me feeling really uneasy. |
| Aug 13 15:57:32 | 20m 57s | TENORMS | ♥ 2 | A simple platformer, though controls need some work. Also, turning around makes the character move waaay too much, when he should really only turn around (I think you made the character's origin point the top left rather than center middle or bottom middle, which would explain such erratic movement). Shooting feels really clunky and mostly useless. It's not, by any means, a bad start though! π |
| Aug 13 16:26:45 | 29m 13s | Your favourite game | ♥ 1 | Love how the main menu(?) is literally just a Windows 95 desktop, you really pulled the look and feel of it. Also love how meta this game is, it's a game where yo have to play a game. It helps that the game-in-the-game is also really fun, with good music and really smooth gameplay. Incredible idea, executed greatly! π |
| Aug 13 19:05:53 | 2h 39m | Piracy: Don't Run Out Of Space | ♥ 1 | Literally throwing more disks at the problem makes for a humorous game, good job! |
| Aug 13 19:19:36 | 13m 43s | memBrain | ♥ 1 | Great take on the theme! Executed perfectly, too! Five stars! |
| Aug 13 22:51:11 | 3h 31m | Growing Out | ♥ 1 | What an incredible feat for 48 hours! The graphics are impressive, the main character is *adorable*, the world has great design (really ambitious to design a metroidvania style game in only two days!), and overall one of the very best entries! Congratulations! |
| Aug 13 23:18:23 | 27m 12s | Crumble | ♥ 1 | Love the graphics and art style - the main character slime ball guy is really goofy looking, I love it! |
| Aug 14 10:04:58 | 10h 46m | Eating Sim | ♥ 1 | How delightfully disgusting! I couldn't play the Versus mode, but I imagine this would be pretty dang funny with a friend - so long as they too would find this type of humor funny. It's an interesting take on the theme, and running with a QWOP style party game makes for a unique entry. The sounds were executed perfectly, but I would like to see a more consistent style for the graphics. |
| Aug 14 11:37:08 | 1h 32m | Souls Panic | ♥ 3 | For some reason, I couldn't get the WebGL version to load - but I did try the Win64 version. I really like the concept, and it was executed pretty well - the game starts off easy enough, but before you know it the rivers are overflowing with souls and there's only so much one cutest reaper can handle! Graphics are nice, though the style could be a bit more cohesive. The music really fits the cute aesthetic you're going for, which in turn clashes with the stressful gameplay - which makes for an interesting dynamic and experience. |
| Aug 14 13:21:27 | 1h 44m | The Best Internet Experience | ♥ 4 | Man, this brings me (bad) memories! π Interesting idea, executed really well. You got the look and feel of Win95 down perfectly , as well as the annoying ads of the 90's to 2000's. These are pretty dang funny too, couldn't help but laugh at them. The game is pretty hard to play using a trackpad, though, so I couldn't get even one minute... Not a criticism of your game, just stating that I sucked at it! |
| Aug 14 13:29:26 | 7m 59s | Move_LD42 | ♥ 1 | Not bad for a day and a half! The base idea is solid, but it would need more time for refinement - in particular, music and sound effects would do wonders to the game feel; adding warning to which blocks will fall to give the player more time to plan; better player and coin graphics, as well as special effects, to make collecting stuff feel more rewarding; more diversified tiles, maybe even some powerups, etc... Still, I really like the isometric view, and the map looks extremely clean. That loading animation is dope! |
| Aug 14 14:24:09 | 54m 43s | Pervertica - CCG | ♥ 2 | Either I suck, or this game is extremely hard! Once the red arrows start kicking in, I just get all kinds of stressed out and confused. Amazing entry, one of the very best I've seen so far! Congrats! |
| Aug 14 14:51:04 | 26m 55s | Shrinkle | ♥ 0 | Congrats on your first LD game! π The idea was simple, but works effectively for the theme, and was implemented well. The game, however, is *extremely hard*, at least while using a track pad - some difficulty options to slow down the walls would be nice! Graphics are extremely simple, but effective - but some more flair would make this game stand out. π If you enjoy this type of minimalist design, maybe take a look at other games with similar style and see how they managed to make it more visually appealing (off the top of my head: Thomas Was Alone, Super Hexagon, both use simple geometric shapes, but have really interesting art styles). Overall, it's a good first entry, and a great starting point! π |
| Aug 14 15:10:52 | 19m 48s | Guns'n'Carrots (Web build) | ♥ 1 | The style of this game is incredible, from the graphics to the music, everything works great! Gameplay wise, it's simple, and some more variety of pickups would be nice, but it made for a short and sweet puzzle-like game that packs a punch everywhere else! Congrats! |
| Aug 14 15:14:03 | 3m 11s | XORN: The Fallen God | ♥ 3 | This is, IMO, pretty much ready for sale! Everything feels, looks, sounds, and plays so polished, I really have no criticisms. It's just THAT amazing! |
| Aug 14 17:02:17 | 1h 48m | Pathcloser | ♥ 1 | It's a nice puzzle game, really entertaining, levels can become quite difficult. The main mechanic - each step you take removes that space from play - reminds me of my own entry, but taken to a completely different genre of game. It works really well as a puzzle game! I like the neon colors and the surreal design of the enemies, but I feel you didn't quite run with that art style all the way - doing so would have given the game a very distinctive look! π |
| Aug 14 18:47:49 | 1h 45m | TheFruityEscape | ♥ 1 | I have the HTML5 version of GameMaker Studio 2, so I was able to give the game a try with the source code files you had linked before (I highly advise you to share those too - the Jam is as much about sharing your games as it is sharing your code so others can learn!). It's a fun little game, reminds me a bit of Flappy Bird. Given the limitations of the free version of GMS2, I think you did a good job! It's a shame, then, that you chose an engine that pulled you back rather than helping you forward. Since you're not going to spend money on GMS2, I would advise you to start working on Unity or Godot, both can be used for free and don't have the same limitations as GMS2. To help you out, I have sent you the HTML5 version of the game all ready to be deployed on itch.io - so enjoy the sense of satisfaction of being able to enter the Game Jam. I hope we'll see your work on Ludum Dare 43! π |
| Aug 14 19:03:55 | 16m 06s | Raft vs Shark | ♥ 1 | This game is downright unforgiving! Very easy to get overwhelmed and mess up! The idea is really cool, and it works great. Due to its unforgiveness, it really made me feel like I was constantly running out of space. Graphically the game is good, but what makes it really stand out is the music and sound effects, as both are pretty great! |
| Aug 14 19:33:57 | 30m 02s | Zlinx | ♥ 1 | A simple idea, well executed. Though I have to say I far prefer the raining levels to the walls crushing ones - the latter can screw you over by hiding platforms you need to progress long before it actually kills you, which I think makes for really bad game feel. Graphically, the little alien dude is adorable, but nothing else stands out - working some more to make the levels and other features pop would be a good way to improve the game. Also, the song is pretty chill and relaxing, but it restarts every time you finish a level or lose a life! Why? I want to keep hearing it, instead I just hear the first three notes over and over and over again... Overall, a nice job, brought down by slight details that make a huge diference. |
| Aug 14 19:45:08 | 11m 11s | The Last Data | ♥ 3 | Starting with the beginning, the Windows XP desktop was really well done, and rather funny, with lots of different things to poke around with and discover. I personally didn't quite care for some of the humor in some of the pictures (mostly the ones with the bundle of wood, a clear stab at the homophobic slur), but the DO_NOT_TOUCH.bat and Clippy were really funny and got a laugh out of me. As for the game itself, it's pretty simple to play, but every aspect of the game works in conjunction to deliver a really awesome experience. The graphics: amazing. The music: AMAZING. The level design leaves you just enough room to feel threatened by the corruption, but it's still forgiving enough that it doesn't frustrate the player. Overall, I'm pretty impressed by the entry - great job! π |
| Aug 14 19:54:43 | 9m 35s | The Backpacker | ♥ 1 | Good concept, good enough execution. Needs a bit more polish, though - clicking on things can be pretty iffy, and no audio feedback when stuff happens makes the player feel a bit lost as to what exactly is happening. Graphics are nice, though, and in conjunction with the music, they set the mood pretty well. I wish the song was a bit longer though, specially for a game that can, in theory, go on forever. |
| Aug 14 20:08:07 | 13m 24s | StopLitterSpace | ♥ 0 | The idea is pretty nice, but the whole game gets brought down due to the awful controls. While I don't have any problem with zero gravity relative controls (as in Asteroids clones), this spaceship's controls are far too loose and make trying to accomplish anything an exercise in frustration. Still, I managed to land on the moon and dismount, but then controlling the astronaut is even weirder and more difficult. The partying and drunk aliens were funny touch though. It's unfortunate that what could be a good game got ruined by downright frustrating controls - even if feeling a bit clunky was part of the idea. |
| Aug 14 23:13:22 | 3h 05m | Extra Trash | ♥ 1 | That is the best rendition of The Blue Danube I have ever heard in my life. I can die peacefully now, for I have experienced perfection. Seriously though, what an awesome entry. The idea is pretty cool, and it was executed really, *really* well! I love that the game doesn't take anything seriously, so it becomes a really fun experience throughout! Great job! |
| Aug 15 09:08:18 | 9h 54m | Ultimate Question - 42 | ♥ 1 | Awesome entry! Love the monochrome graphics, with only the subtle red of the black hole (though, personally, I think the yellow guide line clashes with the overall aesthetic), and the audio used (music + sfx) was pretty much handled perfectly and really help sell the mood. |
| Aug 15 09:29:40 | 21m 22s | Book Crook! | ♥ 1 | Seems pretty simplistic to me: just pick the expensive books first, then the niche ones, and finally the cheap ones - this seems the most surefire way to maximize profits with the limited space. As such, there's not much of a game here as the player isn't really thinking much (in the words of Sid Meier: "Games are a series of interesting decisions"). Maybe if books had different thicknesses, then it would start presenting the player with interesting choices: should they go for the thick expensive book, or various cheap or niche and thin books? Which will return the most buck for the space that I have? As such, I found the game to be rather boring, and nothing else really stood out to me. But still, congrats on finishing the game and entering the Compo for the first time! It's not a bad entry at all, just one that I felt was flawed. Take it as a learning exercise and build up from here! π |
| Aug 15 09:39:39 | 9m 59s | The Flopp | ♥ 1 | The stand out for me is when you collect a floppy disk and, since there isn't enough space, the game loses some of its graphics - that was really creative, and a really good use of theme. I wish it would have been used more, specially for progression (whereas collecting one would make the game "forget" part of the level, opening up new pathways or closing others, all complete with screwy graphics as one would find from corrupted ROMs). Otherwise, it's a straightforward platforming title, but still an enjoyable one. Hiding the last floppy disk on the left side of the screen to be obscured by the controls was pretty troll-ish tho... |
| Aug 15 10:18:34 | 38m 55s | Overpopulation | ♥ 0 | It's a nice take on the theme, using it for story rather than as a gameplay mechanic. Gameplay wise, I'm not entirely sure what controls the stabilization of the spacecraft, and it seems almost random whether or not it remains stabilized or destabilizes as soon as it launches. Otherwise, there's isn't much player input, just selecting the one blue planet and turning on switches. Maybe I did something wrong, I'd be willing to revise it if I knew better what I was doing wrong. The game, however, does stand out in the other areas - it is pretty polished, with nice graphics and a great intro sequence, as well as fitting music. So congrats! |
| Aug 15 10:30:50 | 12m 16s | Don't Let 'em Fall! | ♥ 2 | A solid concept, well implemented, but the game lacks a lot of flair. Sound effects, music, and better graphics would all make the experience much more engaging. |
| Aug 15 13:58:11 | 3h 27m | SpaceOut | ♥ 2 | Love the upgrade system, makes the game extremely compelling to continue playing! |
| Aug 16 13:47:54 | 23h 49m | Merge Machine | ♥ 0 | A surprisingly addicting game, with simple mechanics and satisfying visuals and audio. However, I found the graphics can be a bit misleading - as it seems that the ends of the wrench have to meet the ends of another wrench (in a connect-three type of thing). This was quickly fixed by re-reading your game description, but maybe some other kind of iconography would make the rules more immediately obvious? Either way, great entry! |
| Aug 17 21:46:54 | 31h 59m | Poseidon's Trident | ♥ 0 | I was immediately impressed by the graphics style - they're *really* good, the colors are really easy on the eyes, and the sprites really remind of old Atari 2600 or 5200 games. The audio is also really good, a simple but effective song. However, the game is crushingly short: a single straight room doesn't really allow the mechanics to shine, and it's a shame that you didn't get to explore more ideas. The main mechanic itself seems a bit RNG based at first, but due to how short the single room is, it allows the player to test things out and map out a safe path on their head. I wouldn't mind a few more rooms of it. |
