Nice use of the theme, and cool simplistic graphics. For some reason, z to jump felt a little awkward to me (idk maybe im just a blockhead). I enjoyed the game. I think this is one that i will probs play more in my free time

That's a really cool game ! Really fun, the few sprites are pretty too. It just lacks music, some kind of tileset and perhaps some balancing (I find the grenade launcher less powerful than the other weapons). Awesome entry ! One of my favorites so far !
Taking an existing game and adding a small tweak is an interesting idea. Even though it's a small change, it really does change how the game plays. The constantly changing shape of the level made for a very dynamic experience. It's interesting that the enemies are also blocked by the crates, meaning you can use them as barricades and play strategically around them. I found that enemies tended to bunch up because of the crates blocking their way, which created these no-win scenarios where a whole bunch of enemies were surrounding the next crate. Perhaps some other small change could have remedied this problem. In the end, making a small tweak to a game's rules is an interesting thought experiment, but I think it could have used a few more tweaks to really make it shine. Still, I had a lot of fun playing this game and it is definitely a solid entry.

Very fun game! Usally in this type of games I alway ignore the objective to go find new weapons, but in this game I can do both! Also beautiful and simple graphics and the controls feels nice too. I love all the different guns (except grenade launcher :P). Good job!

Cool game! Something to be proud of. I was really digging the animations and the art, although simplistic, felt in place and a bit of a meatboy fibe to it. It was frustratingly hard tho, but fun to play and i kept restarting. My highscore was 10 after about 15 minutes. Felt very polished. Great job!

A really good arcade-y shooter! Controls are buttery smooth, and the weapons have a really satisfying feel to them!
Graphically, the sprites look great, but the lack of any tiles makes for a weird mix-match.

@pixels-everywhere thanks for trying it out! I'm open to suggestions on controls (esp allowing a few dif control schemes). Glad to you enjoyed
@superpokeunicorn yeah the change definitely affects play. Enemy navigation was (is) a huge obstacle. I think adding more enemy variety would have helped (maybe some flying enemies that ignore the placed crates or something). I'm open to suggestions on how to improving the bunching!
@albin & @talios thanks for playing! yeah the grenade launcher is a bit of a bummer in comparison to the others. I tried upping its reload speed to help a little, but its also good to have a few worse than average weapons in there I suppose.
@laytanl thanks! yeah music is not a thing I'm really capable of haha but I wish I could have put it in. Glad you enjoyed!
This is great! There were a lot of cool guns to try out. I like that the score was based on boxes rather than enemies, because it encouraged me to try out all the new guns. I experienced a couple of random crashes, but other than that it was a great experience :)
Great job, your game has amazing game feel! This game seems very easy just looking at it, but when you actually play it, you realize just how hard it gets.
I really like it and I think is very simple to understand how to play and that's great. I found it pretty funny and the art is nice.
A well-executed clone! The controls are tight, I felt like it was my own suck at platformers that was the issue in not being able to get past level ten, as opposed to the mechanics of the game. Good entry!
Real nice Game. Great art, neet audio. But the Controls where really weird and annoying I think. Maybe give multiple options for jumping, as often "Space" or "W" or "Arrow Up" is used.
Nice game! you executed it quite well, congrats! It's also very fun to play, my only critique is that it's too similar to the original game

Nice game! nice use of the theme and i loved the spinning jump
Really good and hard game (especially as I use a ergonomic keyboard-layout and it took me some time to get use to the 'unusual' controls).

Really fun and the movement feels fantastic! Loved how you took an existing idea and just expanded upon it.
The only reason I couldn't enjoy this game was the controls. I have a QWERTZ keyboard where the Z and X keys are unconfortably placed and it's a bit hard to play this way. Other then that the game is really cool!
Cool game... But... Yeah, I already played this game. You said that yourself, it is a clone of Super Crate Box. You just added one feature, the rest is exactly the same as this game. The thing is that someone who makes a clone of pong, space invaders or tetris for exemple make something different with the concept (or not, but in this case, the game has no interest) to fit with their way to see their game, and to do not steal an idea that is not theirs. But in your case... You respected the theme, but the rest of the gameplay is not by you. I am quite embarrassed... The game is well reproduced, and that is a good point for only 48 hours... But you get my point of view. That is not really YOUR game. You didn't make something unique with the gameplay of Super Crate Box. And more of that, you could make something different with weapons, or something, make a different kind of map. Or even change the way the ennemies looks like...
So I salute the hard work to reproduce the game in 48 hours. Keep coding.

@mathiouza totally fair point. The was no intent to hide that it was a super crate box clone or steal the idea and call it my own, the name and description kind of give that way. I thought the crates changing the platforming was interesting enough to pursue and went with it. In the end maybe it didn't change gameplay enough.

@fenderbate @shaggyfox sorry about the controls for your keyboard layouts! If I were to put in multiple keyboard options, what would you all prefer for two buttons and movement keys?
Edit: this is mostly for future reference with other jam game ideas
@neipo13 It really depends on which keys are not used for other things, but I'd prefer any button which are next to each other on all keyborards. Maybe somethng like JK, NM, or even space for shooting if W/UpArrow is used for jumping.
I would prefer the arrow-keys  + ctrl/space or 0 ^^

@fenderbate sorry to keep asking questions but would wasd + jk be a good option then? or arrows + jk?
@neipo13 If it's not a big problem I'd suggest you include both arrows and WASD keys so everyone gets what they want  as for JK, they're next to each other, so that's good, I guess :P
That was fun! Interesting how much a slight tweak can make all the difference
Cute and fun! I didn't get how you used the theme though, maybe I was too bad and failed before it made sense.
Also I'm so used to games using space for jump that it was hard for me to use Z instead.
But overall, the game feels good and is well done!

Neat idea! I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum Dare 42 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/x7vAI59f_1I

@jupiter-hadley awesome thanks!
Hi I love the simple pixel art graphics with the outline in each character, also the guns are quite satisfying to use and the gameplay gets quite frantic fast. I am just struggling to find how that relates to the theme though, perhaps I did not played enough to see it
I absolutely loved playing this! I simply didn't want to stop!
I think it's a great take on the theme and it's executed very well! The controls feel very tight (thank you for having short hops and hold to jump higher) and there is a great variety to the guns. I could easily see myself paying for an updated version of this game. It's simple but highly addicting.
The player and enemy sprites and animations are really well done (the flipping really adds a ton of charm). Some art for the walls and background to provide more visual cohesiveness, along with some music would certainly be nice additions. I do think that the space bar would be a better choice for the jump, as the controls were initially quite awkward, but I was able to adapt quite quickly. There does appear to be a bug upon trying to restart the game, which causes the game to crash rather frequently.
This was a very well done entry with excellently executed gameplay; I had a blast playing it and I certainly intend to play it again another time. Great job!

@velvetlobster @quetzakol thanks for playing! The intent was that the collection of the crates would slowly make you run out of space as each on picked up becomes a platform (& wall) of sorts. In practice you tend to die too quickly for it to become a problem, so it kind of was a swing & miss on the theme if you don't get far. ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
@joe-sycalik happy you enjoyed it! I will admit much of the charm is taken from it's **direct** inspiration (it's a clone with a themed twist after all) `Super Crate Box`. So go check that out (or anything by Vlambeer) for more similar charm & gameplay.
@neipo13 I had seen that prior to submitting my comment, so I adjusted it accordingly. While there are some strong similarities. It seemed to me that your twist on the game was a good one that created quite a different feel. Additionally, I think a significant amount of the extra charm came from the animation during player and enemy jumps.
While a lot of comming from original game I have to admit it's really well done implementation of source material. Still as frustrating as original too especially with jumping enemies.
Played it for a while trying to make situtation where bad guys are trapped and can't get to bottom level but got stuck at 32-ish boxes.

Well done on making a game thats frustatingly fun. It took me 10 goes to get a score over ten. This game has the right amount of feedback and difficulty is just right for me.
At times i felt the response to chaging direction is slow. For example when I pressed left and shoot while i was facing right, it didnt turn around.
Other than that. It was great fun!

The animations and the feel for the game is very nice, visuals also fit the style!
