LD45 — Start with nothing

Ball of Duty: Special Drops by LandoSystems 2019-10-08T16:47:23Z

In the beginning, this game is like that is really not much or well, nothing. And not even 5 minutes later this is the embodyment of the "Well that escalated quickly"-meme. I LOVE IT. Great art, great sound, great gameplay, just astonishing work. With some more thoughts about it, you can definitely raise the replayability of it as well!

Mage in Exile by Nikolay Zapolnov 2019-10-13T18:17:39Z

In general, very nice and full-of-content game. Thought I could skip a lot of time and trouble by just running by enemies, but yeah, pretty much not possible like that. Good amount of features built-in, crafting, inventory, health and mana. Sometimes the controls feel a little off, I would LOVE this, if it was faster paced and you could cast your spells backwards as well, since it's sometimes really hard to stay far enough away from the enemy and still be able to attack them. Insane amount of gameplay embedded in this 72 hours game, no weird bugs or anything, just a game that works, like it!

0 Lives left by nax_89 2019-10-08T00:39:06Z

Wow, that was weird, I like it =D Really a unique kind of game, at least I have never seen anything like this. Super nice style in combination with great effects on the weird behaviours. Big props that you made that in a day.

Words From Nothing by NekuSoul 2019-10-08T15:41:45Z

Super interesting concept, quite hard to get to the point you want to get. Sounds a little to harsh in my opinion, but still great game!

The Song of Calirum by Blizary 2019-10-13T18:02:19Z

Very interesting concept for a cardgame. I love the fact that the "menu" is not just a collection of buttons but you have that "story" of meeting this guy. The game overall seems very polished with some minor issues. In general very enjoyable and a super good job in that short amount of time!

The first journey by Mercuryal 2019-10-08T15:50:29Z

Nice idea for the theme. Sadly took me three tries to understand which spermium I am and about the controls since the GUI says "Righjt Click" although it's left click (and you have to hold it I think). A little said that the competition died quite early and I had to play nearly half of the run with 2 competitors and a little later alone. Still, nice concept and with some tweaking definitely a nice game!

Nothing by Spiced Pigeon 2019-10-08T16:23:17Z

I really loved that one mobile game in which you start with the 4 elements and you just drag'n'drop them on eachother and you make over 100 different materials, items and other stuff with it. This is just like it, but better. I really love the idea that you can just combine whatever you want and add it to the game, but at the same time I would like a cancel button because if I just force myself to find more combinations, I have to create new things which I don't even know what it should be. But except for that, it is a super cool game and love to spend time to find new stuff and create new stuff in it.

Rainbow cube by Yheeky 2019-10-08T16:03:16Z

Really clean and polished game. Love the concept, lots of small details I didn't really expect in a Game Jam game. If I was required to pay to play more advanced levels I would love to do it.

Runed Memory by ComicSans 2019-10-08T19:13:12Z

Nice concept, sadly took me a while to understand that you have to combine the "elements" to create spells -- maybe I just read over it. In general nice assets, some enemies were a little buggy and I wished there was a better introduction in what to do, since first I only killed the enemies but didn't work on the spawners themselves. Still, great submit!

My Stuff is in There! by Madbarron 2019-10-08T00:10:06Z

I really like what you did in that time. I personally couldn't imagine setting up the tree for the conversation and states in such little time. Some really good punchlines in there that really made me giggle. Sadly, I couldn't make it past the "smoke the bees" part, don't really know if I produced a bug or if there is another "hidden" thing in that world. With some more with this would be a really enjoyable dialogue adventure!

Soulless by Nithin 2019-10-07T23:12:55Z

Nice game, fits the theme really good. The physics in terms of friction on the side of the wall or small blocking colliders makes the game too hard, else very challenging and fun since you really want to go past the sections and still very playable, very minor problems with it. Deserves the name =D

New Project by TheMiSta92 2019-10-08T00:40:03Z

@celmer89 Thank you. Yeah, the movement isn't the strength of the game, but if I look back like a day, I'm so happy about the controls right now =D

New Project by TheMiSta92 2019-10-08T10:53:38Z

Thank you @eva. Yeah, some things are missing out because of the time constraint. There would be a second bossfight and some tweaking on controls and respawning but sadly time run away. We will probably continue working on it and take that feedback into account!

Thank you @t-bo. We are aware that the movement needs some tweaking, glad you liked it non-the-less.

New Project by TheMiSta92 2019-10-08T15:33:20Z

Thank you so much @raffe glad you liked it, in future we will focus on smoother and more fitting camera and player movement. Thank you @narffy =)

New Project by TheMiSta92 2019-10-08T16:48:07Z

Thank you @vincentvincent. Glad you enjoyed it =)

New Project by TheMiSta92 2019-10-08T19:03:19Z

Thank you for the positive feedback @nikita-lozhkin and @pandamnesik

New Project by TheMiSta92 2019-10-09T12:10:49Z

Thank you for your feedback @pedro-rosa, we made the character evolution and background evolution quite separated which led to this difference. We will gladly work on these discrepancies =)

Thanks @doug-graham, we are aware that there is a physics problem on the platforms. Thank you for playing and glad you liked it non-the-less.

New Project by TheMiSta92 2019-10-10T13:02:08Z

Thank you @paulsams, glad you enjoyed it. We are already collecting a lot of ideas that would lead into A LOT of content, so maybe maybe. We are definitely working on it, no matter if it will be a release title one day or just to keep on learning Unity skills.

We are aware of a lot of physics problems and the boss multi-hit problem @crazyrems. We will work on it to make everything more stable and predictable in terms of physics, features and graphical style. We are sorry that the issues are occuring for you, glad you still liked playing it =)

New Project by TheMiSta92 2019-10-13T17:42:56Z

Thank you too all the new reviews. We are aware of a lot of issues and gladly got even more constructive criticism and a lot of love! We take all of your feedback into account and will love to show you one day a polished and extended version of the game. Once the day is here, we will announce it here!

New Project by TheMiSta92 2019-10-15T16:52:31Z

Thank you for playing and the kind words, @adngdb. Yeah, the controls are quite hard and sadly inconsistent at this point, it's challenging but even too challenging, took me a while myself to get the hang of it and well, I played it a lot for testing =D Don't be sad, we are working on improvements and a slower angle for the difficulty of the game.

@jin9310, glad you see the challenge in there  Glad you liked it, we already have a lot of ideas for more scripts and more dynamics in getting scripts, loosing scripts and maybe some tweaking on the script for the player himself. Thank you for the kind words.

New Project by TheMiSta92 2019-10-20T17:47:57Z

Thank you for your feedback @actual-potato-69. We are glad you like it. Yeah, the controls is more like "too hard of a challenge" than an actual problem. We are aware of some camera issues and we are glad to announce that we are working on the game and already got a better working camera for it as well as we tweaked a lot of things already. Thank you for further feedback and we will include it in future updates which we will announce here on the gamepage.

New Project by TheMiSta92 2019-10-30T18:53:33Z

Thank you for playing @elysiagriffin. We are aware that the game is pretty hard at this point and we already got plenty of feedback. Still glad you liked it and played it in your stream!

Return to Nothing by SageWare 2019-10-08T17:11:34Z

Great little "resource manager game". Find out who is evil and destroy them -- at least that's how I played it =D Nice work with the stories of the species living on planets as well as making a game work with basically very little actions to do, but still manage everything fine!

Glorbo's Kingdom by DrewGodden 2019-10-13T18:30:19Z

Super simple concept turning out to be the new Dark Souls. I thought I had the right mindset after 3 minutes and I was really able to undo all the progress I did with 3 bombs, wow. Super challenging and fun, couldn't complain except the mechanic that pears kill the people seems a little odd, but looking at the size of the pears, it makes sense, but I didn't recognize that condition for quite long. Super big thumbs up for a super nice implementation of a quite unusual "shooting game".

Expect Nothing by Domino Marama 2019-10-13T18:24:08Z

Super interesting concept, sadly I wasn't able to progress far since I was really confused by where I could go, because, yeah, the camera is too static. I really like the idea of "NO" being a spring and a wheel, sometimes the control swap is weird but damn, that's a good idea for a "character". I know the topic is "Start with nothing" but at least some information in the beginning would help the game a lot as well as an adapting camera (I know it's hard to do in such a short amount of time, because we struggled as well with it ). Overall a very nice idea with a good attempt of making it in that short amount of time. Some more work on it and it would be a really lovely game to play!

Disabled Hospital by Paulsams 2019-10-08T00:48:07Z

That was ... not what I was expecting. I really like the beginning and the "advancing skillset" but sadly after you got your boost and the broom it is more like a grinding game. Would have loved to see more advanced stuff and a kind of "upgrading" system. Still, good job!

After scrapping by Alexsogge 2019-10-08T10:50:16Z

Great idea, love the "worm movement" when you only have the body. A little tweaking on the light system and pace of the game in combination with more obstacles would really make a great game in my opinion. Heads up, nice work.

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Aloffed by Tyler Miller 2022-04-04T23:15:01Z

Super fun typewriter game. Love the idea. ~~Would have appreciated some background music and iconic ball-hit sounds~~ *don't mind me, my browser sound doesn't work somehow*, but damn, this is really fun. Really really nice. Sorry, don't have more text for you, need to beat my highscore...

Aloffed by Tyler Miller 2022-04-04T23:17:49Z

Haha, got the top of the leaderboard, will check back tomorrow, damn this is fun!

Cards of Life by TheMiSta92 2022-04-07T17:51:20Z

Thank you to all of you for the great feedback so far! Obviously, we are reading points of possible improvements as well and think through them, how we could improve it for this game or in future projects.

@nsadie Thanks for the feedback regarding the download size. We tried to focus more on the game and added a big feature on the last day which led to the size going up. Thanks to a bit of buffer time, we managed to go down to the current size though, before our effort we were above 600MB, so I think we were still able to yield good results in that short time. Regarding performance it's hard to optimize anything in that short amount of time, but we still hope you had a nice time with it.

Magic Missile by Tim Sims 2022-04-04T22:31:30Z

Really a nice combination of Space Invaders-ish defense but also parallel management with the melee fighter. First I only focused on the meteorites until I understood that the zombies/aliens also destroy houses and when I saw that my characters get attacked by them as well, it was too late and I was nearly dead. Super challenging, but in a nice way. Graphics and sounds do their job, composition could be a bit better, but as a prototype/gamejam game nice and non-obstructing in terms of gameplay. Really like the mechanics, not sure if the changing weapons of the wizard are really necessary, but they definitely add another layer in difficulty. In the end, a quite simple game with a very likeable complexity and difficulty. Nice work!

Hospital Dash by brads.space 2022-04-04T22:38:33Z

Super funny driving physics, the camera induces sickness to be honest, but feels still very engaging and action driven. Love the detail of the very dynamic world elements. I think it's a very nice game in terms of dynamic funny titles with some more polish and multiple maps and challenges it has the potential for an actual release title.

The Adventure of a Lifetime by JamPaktGames 2022-04-04T23:00:14Z

Wow, just wow. Not completely fan of the seemingly varying art styles. Also, I understand the trees and such are colored so it imitates a children's drawing, but I would probably have liked it even more if it was just the pencil drawings like used in many parts of the game. The first level was a bit confusing and hard in my opinion, the second was a bit weird to me as well (blue box how?), but the last level (in combination with the story line) was POWERFUL. The track with the different speeds, the coming hospital elements in sync with the game was really strong. Overall I liked it, but I think you wouldn't need to make the game that hard or confusing, the storyline and how you interacted with it especially in the last level was just PERFECT in a way. Big props to you! Amazing!

LD54 — Limited Space

Blow Ball by jk5000 2023-10-17T18:05:55Z

Like most nerds here, I didn't have a friend to play with, but really nice game. I imagine it being real fun and a great minigame for splitscreening in some short breaks or something xD

Norton by Sozey 2023-10-17T17:54:39Z

Wow, this feels and looks amazingly polished for a Compo entry. Sadly the graphical issues ruin the otherwise super cool style and visuals of this game for me a bit. I'm also not sure if the camera bop on mouse movement isn't a bit too much xD But damn, this looks great, has really nice audio and a great mood. For the kite maybe a light line down to the ground could help a bit as I was sometimes unsure how high I am when not seeing the shadow. In total super nice entry, glad I could play it :-)

Experiment "Square" by DK Game Labs 2023-10-17T17:39:33Z

Interesting concept. With some more work this could be more scary (you puke out your food, shake so much you can't wash up anymore and features like that). Mood was good, sounds sadly a bit too repetitive for my liking, pace was a bit slow (wasn't sure what I'm doing until the actual stuff happened). Bit more dynamic content would have added a lot to this, but still a good idea with potential to make it great.

File Defender by Troy Korns 2023-10-17T17:46:28Z

Really cool concept. Sadly game "progresses" a bit too fast, you can't really fight the system errors as the green files (which I assume give back some controls) come in too late. Wish I didn't need to break my mouse playing it xD. Good first entry, congrats!

100 MB by Null1233 2023-10-17T18:02:52Z

Very nice entry. Fun to play, super hectic to not run out of space, so you hit that mark nicely. A bit of a shame that the controls are a bit more complicated and that long readme is really tiresome to read. If this was more aligned with e.g. Windows Explorer works with own little server entries where you drop the stuff and have the essential controls right, this could be something I would play a lot more. Good stuff for this jam nonetheless. Nice one!

Packing time ! by Valothebest 2023-10-17T18:11:37Z

That game is pretty hard ngl xD Sadly the controls are a bit finicky and it's a bit hard to see where the suitcase ends, a bit of a grid that is shown with low opacity on it might have helped there. In general a nice puzzle game, some bugs are in as I managed to poke some things through the suitcase which might not make the airport too happy ^^ Good mood, nice puzzles, good fun!

LD55 — Summoning

Liberatio Periculum by TheMiSta92 2024-04-19T09:25:20Z

Thanks a lot for your valuable feedback and kind words @kevin-ray @satolas @zablas @hsg-gringo and thanks for streaming your impressions on it @jerem-watts.

We also added now a disclaimer about allegations to "Helldivers", whoever that is.

Liberatio Periculum by TheMiSta92 2024-04-21T09:22:21Z

@caveman54 thanks for your feedback. Yeah, it's certainly not easy to focus on positioning correctly, entering the spell sequence and at the same time adjust rotation. Very valid feedback :-)

Liberatio Periculum by TheMiSta92 2024-04-21T09:23:55Z

@anifan-gelati oh, yes, 100%

LD56 — Tiny Creatures

Traction Bugs by TimBeaudet 2024-10-12T18:54:41Z

What a nice concept that is! I can see this going many directions: survival racing game where you keep going to next level with what survived, more speed focused with the mechanic that the more bus are still alive the swarm can go faster, need to sacrifice some bugs for shortcuts which increases the risk of not making it, etc. If I have one point that throws me off is the "invisible swarm queen" which is controlled by the player and that the other bugs try to go to. Perhaps having a visible "main character" or dynamically adjusting it (because I managed to get ahead of my bugs and then it's hard to control) could potentially improve this, but I also get the point of not having it. I really enjoyed playing this and it's a very solid entry. Well done!

Survive The Night by Dan Davis 2024-10-12T18:33:22Z

Very nice art and atmospheric level. Also great addition to add obstacles to the level instead of just having a plain left-right-scroller. Combined input handling (jumping and changing direction) could make it feel a bit responsive. In my opinion lacking: feedback on being hit and hitting enemies, that could add a lot, but time is limited. Solid entry nevertheless.

Tiny Creature Breeder by Ausstein 2024-10-12T19:04:52Z

Nice idea! Also with the addition of the shop and limitations of the game definitely a nice progression. I'd love to see a bit more feedback on which creature(s) are the babies of the breeding and perhaps some nice and easy to use mechanic to compare sizes between the creatures but definitely a game that is nice to play! Solid work :-)

Antropolis by TheMiSta92 2024-10-12T18:41:48Z

@jonathandavidlewis That's the downside of using Unreal 5 for such projects, the engine is quite big. Glad you had fun though :-)

Antropolis by TheMiSta92 2024-10-12T18:44:25Z

@andreadbx yeah, understandable, Unreal Engine 5 games are known to be raytraced graphics orgasms usually, but the engine works nicely for such UI-only games as well and since I got lots of experience with it, it was a no brainer for me. Feel free to recommend some other engines; Unity is the past for me, Godot is quite cumbersome to work with imo. Let me know if you got a recommendation :-)

Antropolis by TheMiSta92 2024-10-12T19:09:57Z

@buzzydev Sorry to hear that :-/ Sadly we don't really have a quick-fix for that. Regarding your "tutorial ingame" feedback: That's what we would have loved to do, but sadly we ran out of time to have a solid solution for this, but we fully agree with you!

Antropolis by TheMiSta92 2024-10-12T19:12:54Z

@the-quinnzite-mushroom yeah, we were thinking about Frostpunk-like resource overviews, but ... @braulio-jg Also this, would have loved to have procedural connections between the rooms with ants running all around and a lot more ambience, but ... ... a game is never finished, but the time limit cuts it. Glad you enjoyed it anyway :-)

Corgis Heaven by Astoeth 2024-10-12T18:40:59Z

As someone who got a Corgi puppy a month ago (who also supported me in this LDJam), I had to play this. The graphics and sound is very cute, the idea is simple but well executed. Sometimes a bit hard to find the Corgi I need since the map is a bit big, but if catching Corgis was easy I would deem this unrealistic. Very nice entry, nice to relax to.
