Nice little point and click adventure. I like the little kid :D

spiess 2019-10-07 23:55

Too much text

wheybags 2019-10-08 00:07

Got stuck on the sword, kadric gave me the bellows and I took the kid's money but the blacksmith won't give the sword to me :(

quoc 2019-10-08 00:08

Too much text and confusing

themista92 2019-10-08 00:10

I really like what you did in that time. I personally couldn't imagine setting up the tree for the conversation and states in such little time. Some really good punchlines in there that really made me giggle. Sadly, I couldn't make it past the "smoke the bees" part, don't really know if I produced a bug or if there is another "hidden" thing in that world. With some more with this would be a really enjoyable dialogue adventure!

romes 2019-10-08 00:13

I really liked the script! It created the character - Ben - so accurately. Great job. However, i'm not sure the ending is the end? I got to a point where Kadric says I should be really listening, but i can't seem to move on? And the song is just the right mood as well

sometimesghost 2019-10-08 00:17

Cute little point-and-click adventure! I thought the story ended pretty well. Some of the objectives are a bit obscure- listening skills- but it's good!

madbarron 2019-10-08 00:45

@romes Thanks for playing! Yeah, we were worried about that part. We're actually trying to get you to click on the word _listening_ to prove that Ben is paying attention. Kind of a leap for sure. For what it's worth, I've just tightened up that loop based on your feedback to try and make it more obvious. Thanks again!

madbarron 2019-10-08 00:47

@sometimesghost So relieved to hear that someone got to the end :relieved: thanks for playing!

romes 2019-10-08 00:53

aw man! well that was clever... i'll surely get it next time. nice ending!

doug-graham 2019-10-08 01:58

I got stuck after I gave makk the zeplin, he kept asking for it. Nice art and interesting take on a point and click adventure.

landosystems 2019-10-08 02:41

Really great game, cohesive art, entertaining dialogue, fitting music, pretty obvious how to play. I liked it a lot!

aboogoost 2019-10-08 05:13

Made a few significant bugfixes. Thanks for letting us know about issues!

madbarron 2019-10-08 05:19

@wheybags @themista92 @doug-graham thanks for letting us know! We just fixed some of these quest issues based on your feedback, and I appreciate you taking the time to play our game!

brokenmirrormedia 2019-10-08 07:48

A cute game, I am not sure if I actually finished it, but it was enjoyable overall.

aboogoost 2019-10-08 15:45

@brokenmirrormedia it should be very clear when you've reached the end of the game (it will say "The End"). If you got stuck somewhere please let us know because we've fixed all the problems we're aware of.

justinooncx 2019-10-09 02:33

Heh, that was a nice little story~ I was like "Man, I'm such a friggin asshole." Story moves a bit fast near the end, but what the heck, you got your message across! I really dig the simple yet profound mechanic of actually LISTENING, and I skipped through a lot of that guy's "Are you listening?" due to me being a... 'fast' reader. I like that the game MAKES me listen for a change! Well done~

aboogoost 2019-10-09 03:23

@justinooncx Wow. Thank you so much. That's exactly what I wanted to hear. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

P.S. I hear you about the story moving too fast at the end - we had BIG plans and ran into the deadline but that's what game jams are about I guess :D

felipe-guimaraes 2019-10-09 18:29

Awesome game. I loved it. Thank you!

zachary-shah 2019-10-09 21:15

Really cool game, really funny too! Though I am not sure if I completed the game. I gave the toy to the child but when I talk to anyone else there is no new dialogue. Perhaps make the ending a little clearer?

aboogoost 2019-10-09 21:27

@zachary-shah I think you've encountered a bug that we haven't been able to track down yet. It's frustrating because you're very close to a pleasant ending. We'll keep working on it to see if we can find a fix.

kaizo 2019-10-11 07:04

Many text to read but nice game.

drgrognak 2019-10-12 05:51

I didn't think there was too much text. :) Actually this game was the perfect length for me. Loved the consistent art (the dragon portrait cracks me up!) and thought the humor was very well done. This is also the first LD entry I've played so far that has voice acting, so props for that too! Nice job!

danilo-freire 2019-10-12 18:10

Really easy to play, smart use of small scope! Congratulations to the team!

bradleyashley 2019-10-13 01:46

Dialogue was fun, very Fallout 1&2 with lots of potential! The game could use more action upfront but it was engrossing enough to keep me playing!

uchiro 2019-10-13 07:17

Got stuck at "help Ben develop some active listening skills". I can't figure out what it is. So I haven't complete the game.

Excellent cutscene of the battle with dragon.

pixamentory 2019-10-13 09:18

"Impressive game, Very cool concepts. I left wishing that there is more. Had a lot of fun "

langotriel 2019-10-16 11:30

First of all, my name is Ben so that's rad. Second, I love the physical humour of getting tossed out of the house; genuinely got a laugh out of me :P Good job!

madbarron 2019-10-16 17:36

@uchiro I'm interested to hear at what point you got stuck. We attempted to make the current version keep you in a particular loop until you figure it out, which it also tells you how to do :D

mrtroy 2019-10-17 02:40

I had to play this one and get all the way to the end... "Looking goooood" :)

kooshy 2019-10-17 02:59

I think I forgot what it said the premise was and was kinda weirded out by all the bad things I was doing (and kinda seemed on rails to do) - including tricking a child out of their money! It went from weird to kind of uncomfortable. And then I was like, "Oh yeah, that's the point" right about the time I hit the turning point (getting whipped by the dragon.) As others have pointed out, it's an awfully short redemption arc, _but_ it's a complete story told with only a handful of characters (playing nicely with the small town theme), quite the emotional ride, and generally a surprisingly buttoned-up and well-executed piece. Well done!

aeveis 2019-10-19 06:40

Nice, was able to beat it! The game does a good job taking advantage of people's tendency to click through text, which sort of reflects the initial behavior of the character. It'll be cool if there was a faster ending if the player is paying attention. At first I thought I had to wait to listen, so the dialogue eventually telling me was a good hint haha. The camera movement and sfx for the battle was unexpectedly great. Nice job! (people saying "too much text" strangely antithetical to the game kind of proves a point?)

aboogoost 2019-10-19 14:54

@aeveis ooh I like the idea of a different, shorter ending for a player who is listening from the beginning!

lexyvil 2019-10-20 06:18

It took me a while to realize that I had to "listen" many times to progress, which was very clever! The script was amazing and the greeting voice lines added a lot to the immersion, which I felt from beginning to the end.

peachtreeoath 2019-10-20 23:25

I am really bummed that some of these reviewers clearly hadn't played much of the game and commented anyways. I loooved the active listening portion. I tend to fly through text as well, and that was a bit of a meta-mechanic that made me pay attention to what they were saying more, as well as showing the character's growth arc which was pretty brilliant. The game honestly had some funny moments as well like the spongebob text and also the camera work when flying out the house.

I honestly didn't think too much about this game at first thinking it might be a bit of a joke humor/narrative game, but it showed unexpected heart in the 2nd half of the game. I gotta give huge kudos to the writing and boldness for executing on a game like this. The game world is engaging and more importantly, memorable.

madbarron 2019-10-20 23:46

@lexyvil @peachtreeoath Thank you so much! The listening mechanic felt like a big risk, and there was a lot of internal debate about putting it in, so it's great to hear that it made a difference for you. Thanks for the great feedback.

rodrigo-denubila 2019-10-21 13:01

I really like point and click games, good to see this kind of game here. The game is fluid, seems very polished and I think fits the theme very well. Good job!

aboogoost 2019-10-25 05:22

As far as we can tell the bugs have been fixed - at least we made some changes and haven't had reports of problems in quite some time. I made a video so that you could enjoy the ending without having to play through the whole game again!

(spoiler alert!)

https://youtu.be/nXMy1PSyN8w @wheybags @themista92 @romes @brokenmirrormedia @zachary-shah @uchiro

brokenmirrormedia 2019-10-25 05:30

@aboogoost Wow, thank you for making a video for the ending! I really appreciate it!

romes 2019-10-25 09:44

@aboogoost awesome! thank you. really nice!

mr-chocolatesalmon 2019-10-28 08:41

Instant classic

Nah it was actually pretty good! The story was great and had a good message behind it. The gameplay was simple and easy to understand (once I realized about 'listening' to other characters - perhaps that should have been emphasised a little more). I think you did a great job! Congrats

sorlok 2019-10-29 05:33

This definitely got better and better as it went along. Good writing all around, and fun to play through! That town started off pretty dysfunctional. A "point" system to show advancement like in old point-and-click adventure games might have helped make it clear that progress was being made.
