LD25 — You are the Villain

The Good Doctor by Sestren 2012-12-27T19:33:00

I actually really enjoyed this. Perhaps I've had my fill of killing this that and the other, this little interactive vignette was delightful! The text was very amusing, and it was just the right amount of challenge - if I'd had to hunt too much harder it could have become annoying but actually you ended the experience before it got old. I really liked the weird avatar and Cagney - what a star ;) Would have like to have seen some kind of graphic for the promised "Town" - I was expecting a twist ending. Were you supposed to be a metaphorical bacterium or something? Great, thanks

Be the Villain by Digitalduck 2012-12-27T18:44:00

Enjoyable game, thank you! Was the amount of time available random or related to the level size? I couldn't read the between-level text because I tapped space to offload the stuff at the inopportune moment a couple of times. Feel some kind of threat (other than the countdown clock) would have added to it. Love the graphics and the piano muzak ;)

Trolling by permanente1600 2012-12-27T18:50:00

Excellent artwork, I wanted to destroy that damn smug unicorn, grr! Well thought out and executed, but somehow I felt like I wasn't the most capable of trolls ...

Robo Jerks by SFX 2013-01-01T20:16:00

I think we had the exact same game idea ;) I feel your pain, but you've crammed a hell of a lot of work in here so nice one!

(Tie One Woman to a Train Track and Suddenly) I'm the Badguy by handCraftedRadio 2012-12-17T20:53:00

Love it! Really well thought-out mechanics, great presentation, good intro explaining the controls, downright hilarious! Would have liked some sounds for the trains, and perhaps a screen rumble? Great effort

The life of a Boss by Jiddo 2012-12-27T18:39:00

Truly accomplished, wonderful polish. Nailed the graphics (love those pixels!), fab sounds effects. The drive to upgrade the rooms to see all the animations was brilliant! I would love to see room-context-sensitive deaths (version 2.0?) The tower defence twist was really nice, though the fonts were a bit small so I couldn't really tell how lethal the rooms were during play, also it was fiddly to have to click on the enemies (friendlies?) to see how much health they had and to read their names - since you have the gray box you could include a health bar perhaps? Overall really enjoyed it, and beat it ;)

Vixen by bentosmile 2013-01-02T12:02:00

Very emotive, excellent presentation and an interesting progression - I even enjoyed the ending. Some plunky piano wouldn't have gone amiss but it was really polished and enjoyable (if that's the word!)

Evil Dudes Need Evil Towers by jujule 2012-12-17T20:58:00

An interesting concept well-executed, but I found it really hard, I think with a more gentle learning curve it would have been more fun, but I liked the presentation a lot, nice one! -J

Little Death Adventure by blackmagic 2012-12-17T20:41:00

Exception entry! The graphics were superb quality and really fitting for the theme. I loved the comedy elements (talking scythe? Genius!) and the text messages really added depth to the experience. I think it was good that there wasn't too much in the way of environmental challenge because it was more fun to go on a crazy slaughter and read the text, which meant you couldn't keep your eye on the dude all the time anyway. Great music and intro, really good

Clowns Vs. Bunnies by angela 2012-12-28T11:25:00

Loved the music (creepy and clown like) and the presentation. A nice implementation of a TD game. I would have liked to see a little more variety in the clown just to vary things a little. The game froze after about 30 seconds every time I tried it (Safari / Mac)

Evil Death Robots Vs Bunnies by Team Superfluid 2012-12-18T07:51:00

Thanks for the comments! Yes I totally agree re the pace, this was just something we ran out of time on ;)

Evil Death Robots Vs Bunnies by Team Superfluid 2012-12-19T07:48:00

@Dmitrix Yeah apols for that, we really planned a tutorial or some kind of instructions (had big plans for it in fact) but that feature was left on the cutting room floor with so many others ;)

Evil Death Robots Vs Bunnies by Team Superfluid 2012-12-20T21:45:00

@michax @strkl Thanks for the feedback re the controls, despite the fact that probably half the entire time was sunk trying to get them right I agree they are sadly lacking! It was a mistake to combine two different scale tile maps and multiply different sized units- just too hard to get right ;)

Evil Death Robots Vs Bunnies by Team Superfluid 2012-12-20T21:48:00

@GreenPixelDev Yes we were so close to showing the move ranges, it was just a step too far, in retrospect it was an important omission- it was our first attempt at a tbs game so we learned a heck of a lot about the key systems they use... Thanks for the feedback ;)

Evil Death Robots Vs Bunnies by Team Superfluid 2013-01-02T12:03:00

@Sestren - thanks for that, it just takes a moment or two to load (should be < 10s I would guess...)

Bombardier by NeverAutomatic 2012-12-17T21:02:00

Nicely presented, enjoyed this but just wanted a bit more catharsis I guess - perhaps you could do the classic video game trick of "start the game fully powered up then strip all the powers after a few seconds" to give a taste of the potential devastation? The complete package, thanks - Jim

Target: Restaurant ! by illugion 2013-01-02T09:57:00

Superb artwork, in only one day you say? Excellent work! I missed sound? Nicely constructed puzzling, funny and compelling. Thank you!

Dr. Vile in The Greater Good by GreenPixelDev 2012-12-19T20:20:00

Incredible work! I love the story and setting, bang on the money. The mechanics are so clean and and pure, this is a haiku of a game - nothing more could be removed without harming it, it is pretty much perfect for this competition, thanks for sharing! -J

Burglary by TobiasW 2012-12-27T19:27:00

Great mechanics, the light range setting, the lock pick mini-game and the interplay between the two is really well conceived and executed. It was also very well balanced with regards to being spotted by the enemy. It was obviously quite abstract, but charming nonetheless. Thanks!

Burglar! by Kalakian 2012-12-19T20:23:00

A promising start! I liked the effects on the doors and the level design was interesting. Would have liked the camera to track you a little more quickly as I managed to walk off the screen at one point. You enjoyed it, all good :D -J

Atomic Creep Spawner!! by deepnight 2013-01-05T11:00:00

Flawless, again, I really enjoyed this so thank you! The way the creeps spring out of the cursor is so juicy, the Hero's characterisation with the snide comments is un-intrusive but adds so much flavour. Excellent animation and sound, clear to see how well you are doing etc. Perhaps some kind of stats screen on fail to encourage another go would be a good extension?

The Darkness by johnfn 2012-12-19T20:36:00

Very good entry, really impressive mechanics and structure and a nice twist in the tail, the complete package, thank you! -J

Airship Infiltration by supermaximo93 2013-01-02T11:48:00

Really enjoyed this, thank you! The level design was very good considering the time available, and you got a lot of content in there with the AIs, the cannons and the various other bits and bobs. I really liked the intro animation and soundtrack - made it feel like a complete and well-rounded product. One irritation is that you have to be on the same floor level to attack the AIs which is sometimes irritating (e.g. start of lev 3) - perhaps this is deliberate though?

Seeds of Wrath by 01101101 2012-12-27T11:04:00

Simply incredible polish and presentation, and a really original take on the theme as well. Such an accomplished entry, nothing more to add to the comments already here ;)

You are the (NOIR) Villain by Graham Weldon 2012-12-27T19:10:00

Excellent immersion via the creepy graphics and music. Disorientating environment (deliberate?) - sadly too few indicators for me to work out what on earth I was supposed to do. I attended an interesting mating ritual of 3 glowing blobs, that was pretty cool ;)

The Hill by Strkl 2012-12-19T20:44:00

Really emotional, I found this strangely moving! A wonderful take on the theme, very well executed with a strong dynamic arc. Presentation great, but I longed for sound -J

Super Evil Machine by Gareth Jenkins 2012-12-27T15:37:00

Really enjoyed the animation on the hapless souls, amusing sounds and superb music. Not the easiest game to get the hang of, but fun and well made, thank you! -J

Green War by MDK_Marshal 2012-12-27T17:10:00

I'm a sucker for cellular automata / emergent systems like this, it was fun just to interact with the trees and hack up some hippies :D Did find the controls a bit RSI inducing though - I don't think I could play it for long. It also wasn't obvious how close to winning / losing I was, so it could have been a little more satisfying if that was conveyed across. A nice take on the theme!

Shining Farce by De10ter 2012-12-27T16:45:00

Nice and clear controls, liked the menu system - can see how extensible this is to future adventures etc. Some sfx and sounds would really jazz it up, but a solid system with all the requisite bits and bobs

A Villain By A Chance by Madball 2012-12-27T16:53:00

Loved the intro, set up the story nicely, but I kind of got confused about how things were progressing as I played. I think some more visible feedback about what effect my actions were having / a bit more immediacy would have been good, however to balance this system in 48hours is a very impressive achievement!

The Unseen Strangler by FrozenCow 2012-12-27T18:23:00

I enjoyed this! Nice and clear goals, silky smooth playability, easy controls and satisfying execution (literally ;) I enjoyed the drag mechanic and the graphics were nice and clear. Some simple sound effects wouldn't have gone amiss - really sfxr takes minutes to churn out some acceptable bleedings etc. Plenty of scope to add to the experience / puzzle aspect with more levels too. Worked perfectly in Safari on Mac by the way ;)

Plebs vs. Mobs by Kurt 2012-12-17T20:47:00

Enjoyable romp! Really like the dynamic fire and the interaction between the agents, almost a puzzle-ish aspect to it. Plays super slick. Particularly like the whole "putting the fire out in water" mechanic. Sadly try as I might I couldn't seem to make it attack? Or not obviously anyway; prob just me though. Nice effort! -J

THE PRINCESS IS MINE by emveyh 2012-12-27T17:17:00

A superb entry! Really strong presentation style, absolutely love the big pixels and filter effects. The retro style and pop culture references really sell the game. The controls are slick and the realtime nature creates some interesting dynamics. Some compelling reason to move away from the centre a bit more would have been good .. perhaps some alternative weapons etc, but tbh the amount of content and polish for 48h is extremely impressive as is.

Psycho Santa by huga 2012-12-27T16:55:00

Gutted, really liked the look of this but the site down ;(

Local Mastermind by Nehmulos 2012-12-27T17:00:00

The thugs wear "Bank of America" caps? Interesting... ;) A cool little ecosystem with some nice emergent properties, just a shame the game systems aren't ready yet. I find it pretty amusing and the graphical style is really nice. Cool tune too ;)
