Love the art, and the level design, you have to use the ... =) Without giving anything away.
I can leave the ball at the very top and I will get 30 bounces, without really playing it. What's the losing scenario?
Do you lose health each time you hit the bat?
Very very nice animation, especially the casting spell animation. Should put a shadow so it doesn't look floating, even a simple circular one. And nice music too.
Love the lightning, I can kill like 20 monsters, but took a while for those monsters to come to you, better speed it up. Spell 2 seems to be your most powerful, and it has short range - fair enough. Spell 1 is not as powerful as spell 2, but has the same range as spell 2. You should make it at least longer range. I didn't try the goat.
As for framework, I use to be like you. But now I keep saying to myself, "make games, not engine" ... "make games, not engine" =) Take Unity for example, it probably have been tested by at least a million people. Your own engine just can not compete with that. I myself use Monkey, for some reason, how ever bad my code is, it doesn't cause a reset problem. You wouldn't believe how many reset problem I had to fix with working with C/C++ ... headache.
Really cool idea.
My first score is 7, second score is 6. Just can't get used to the control. You know what would be nice, just make it auto-fire, then you left with the left mouse button for capturing the kidnappers. I know it is not old-school, but you still aiming at least. Also, may be make the ship slow at first and faster as you kidnap more people. Just a thought.

Where are my storm troopers? I only played the 5-in-a-row game, which is fun. First time I didn't realize I was playing match 5 in a row. I thought I was playing "Go". Second time I managed to get 5 in a row. But why does my darth vader light sabre crosses =) and napoleon's knots sometime dissappear? What is the reason behind that?
I am beginning to think the really fun bit to this game is the explosion. That is really neat.
Some people has said the control it hard, it took me some time to get used to it to. I think it is because of the slide / friction you put on the ship.
Why is there a death score? Is that the people going to the far right and far left that you didn't save?
BTW, I think you can cheat by hiding at the far left or far right, hiding very close to the people and a building, and just keep beaming them up. The missile will keep hitting the building.
Great game, very nice idea and very well executed.
My trick to beating the blue, I picked up a mine and then I wait until I have 1 or two tile, so I know which tile the blue one is going to click on, and then I just spam my mouse left click on that tile, seems to confuse it, but you won't get a very good time for it though! Because you have to wait until that 1 tile.
So if the gangster own 3 by 3 like this:

Which in my opinion they should not be able to. I reckon I should be able to beat them fairly easily, because they are surrounded by gangster. But I was annoyed that it took me a while to beat them, and sometime they would win too. Just my opinion.
How did you do the AI for the hero? Mine is dumb =P

My thinking right now on the whole AI is, yes do what you are currently doing, but when the hero is surrounded by bullet (or minions in my case), put those bullet/minions into tiles, and use djikstra pathfinding to get out of it. That's what I would try next.

Your have strategy though. And I love how I can upgrade my ships. Who cares about sound =) Main thing is getting gameplay working first. I realise there wasn't strategy late into the compo, and I didn't have time to change it.

Sorry about the very bad feedback. When you kill the player's ship, I restart all your minions to zero. But I did put in the code that give your gold back to you.
This game is basically a reverse of Geometry Wars / Neon Wars, and in those game when you die, you clear the game screen.
I agree that this game is more spamming the button. I realise it very late in the compo when I was testing it all out. And I didn't have time to change it.
When you play on the other side (as the player like geo wars, and neon wars), it is meant to be more fast and frantic, so when you switch it around, it becomes spamming button. So I think if you want strategy, you have to slow it down, like what nickworks did. His game has strategy and it even has upgrade.
@raincole yes I made it that way. My thinking is always by the 3rd level you should know what you are doing. In this case the 3rd kill. I got this idea from playing all those capcom fighting games, for some reason when you get to fight the 3rd character is always harder. Make me think now ... hmmm.
@arch.jslin Yeah I was going to add laser, but ran out of time. First it was only firing bullet, then I realize it was not hitting the minions. So I put in a homing missile in =)

Nice art and game. Can you explain what each unit does? Is the slime the tank minions?
It is a difficult game, because we are conditioned to think we are alone, in this type of game. But when you realise that he wrote "Use zombies as distraction." (I just realise that is in his homepage). May be you need to put that into the intro. After I realise this, the game becomes really enjoyable and unique.
Nice and simple, I probably got the lowest score of 386.

Top is your highscore.
Total is your score for the 10 links.
Score is your score for this current board. And this is how you find out whether you are doing a good or bad job. So if you just use one wormhole for the whole board, then this score would be really bad.
Scoring system - yeah it is very confusing, I realize it now. =( @Benjamin is correct, his PAR scoring system would have made the scoring elegant.
I did think about creating a solver, but because of the 48 hours limit, I don't think I can solve all the bugs in time. It probably be functioning, but buggy, so I didn't attempt it.
One massive wormhole - yeah should at least try that one, I am trying to hypnotize everyone. =)

I really like the counter mechanic, keeps the game fresh. Love the sandstorm, and darkness. Quite/SHHH, I usually just leave it, and try to read it small =) Same with crosseye, I read it crosseyed! =D
My strategy for sandstorm was to do the sandstorm counter, but once I get quite I would leave it. Darkness I could still kinda read it, may be because the words do repeat, so I can guess what the words are.
When it was crosseye, I thought I had to read the final word crosseye too, but that didn't happen.
I enjoyed playing this game. It was fun (and hectic) to take care of 10 squirrels! =)
