A really fun game! I was really tempted to play more but I had to resist because I have other games to rate.

gabreu 2023-10-02 16:09

Heey!! Your game is awesome, we had the same idea!! Me and my team worked on a Sushi Puzzle, works the same, but instead of block you have to fill the box with japanese food! Good luck for us both! Congrats!

cymusi 2023-10-02 17:04

Very fun, it reminds me of password game. Graphics are really consistent and polished. For me personally, it was quite easy, but still enjoyable!

mathstr0fficial 2023-10-02 18:36

A simple concept executed very well! I'm not generally amazing at puzzle games (it's my fatal flaw as a human being) so the slightly lower difficulty was much appreciated. I did notice a couple weird quirks in terms of which ominos would be spawned for a given level, since occasionally one of the criteria would ask for no more than X of a color, but none would be available to use anyway. Not a huge deal, but actually did contribute to the lower difficulty. It was a lot of fun though, and would love to see some more puzzles in this same mold! The polish is really impressive as well, and it feels good to just place blocks. Only main issue is I would love some background music, even if it was just something simple. But overall really well done and I had a lot of fun with this!

triangle-point 2023-10-02 20:50

Very fun game! The puzzles are great and I love the art and sound effects! Great game!

mortusnegati 2023-10-03 02:10

I thought it was good. It started out easy and got harder. The sound effects really helped me enjoy it more. Good work.

jebouin 2023-10-03 05:56

This game is quite addicting! I like that you don't have to fill the whole board but follow some other rules instead. I played for a while and still couldn't beat the last level!

ogelgames 2023-10-03 11:28

@gabreu Thanks, your game looks nice, I'll make sure to play it!

@mathstr0fficial Thanks, there are always a set of ominos provided to perfectly complete each level, but the rest of them are randomized, so it's possible some colors won't appear. As for the music, I decided against adding music because it's a puzzle game, and I personally find music distracting when you're trying to solve a puzzle. I might still add something though.

@jebouin Yes, I intentionally made the last level extra hard, but there is a solution :)

afra-gerami 2023-10-03 12:25

Man I really liked this game, and maybe this was the game that I spend more time playing than any other game in this game jam. It fits the theme really good, and using tetris blocks was a great idea, because you have something in your game that everyone is familiar with and then you added new mechanics. great job :v:

matthewdrake 2023-10-03 12:45

Cool puzzle game! Really fun concept, and a great use of the theme. Wasn't able to finish the game due to getting stuck on one of the puzzles, but I'll have to come back to it in the future. Nicely done!

navenka 2023-10-03 13:02

Hello! It looks like a very nice game, but I've tried the web version several times and it crashed every time after I finish the first lvl ..... I hear the "win" sound and then it freezes :/

captainzo 2023-10-03 13:16

Very fun game! Simple but effective ! Great job !

boyar 2023-10-03 13:43

Oh i love it! Polished and simple, the idea that you don't need to fit all of them but need to follow conditions makes for surprisingly fun gameplay. Good job on that one

zhg-zzz 2023-10-03 13:46

Interesting game. I like way we do not have to cover the full square, which makes it not that difficult. Thank you for your work!

maksimj 2023-10-03 16:51

Amazing game! Great concept, great implementation. Feels polished and complete, very impressive!

borabee 2023-10-03 17:53

This game is the perfect lenght and difficulty progression for the jam. I had a lot of fun and loved everything about it, from the simple artwork to the level design and simple sound effects. Also loved learning about ominos! hehe

cheesepencil 2023-10-04 06:42

It's past my bedtime so I can't beat level 10, but the first nine stages were great. Well paced puzzle game, this is great for a jam. Big fan of the sfx!

diccuric-sigeon 2023-10-04 07:18

I felt smarter when I completed the game.

sevadusk 2023-10-04 15:00

Pretty nice puzzle game, great entry! As others have mentioned, it could be made a bit harder.

meep 2023-10-04 15:02

Really fun game! Might add some fun replay value if you could get some sort of ribbon for satisfying the constraints while also completely filling up the board (in addition to normal level completion)- it seemed possible on every level! :D

nardandas 2023-10-05 09:38

Really satisfying little game. I talked about this on stream, but I think the thing I wanted most was an additional "yay you did it!" for perfect solves. I also think generating extra pieces to make satisfying the constraints something that has to be kind of an active action would be good. Constraints asking for "at most 2 green" don't feel interesting when there is one green.

ogelgames 2023-10-05 10:52

@navenka Yeah I had noticed that it lag sometimes, but I want able to figure out the cause before the deadline. I've since found the cause (shader compilation for the particles) and fixed it. Hopefully it should work for you now :)

@meep @nardandas Yes, I'm thinking of replacing the current win celebration with something more subtle, and instead using that for when you get a perfect solution. I'll probably also add something to the level select to indicate it, like a star maybe.

@nardandas Yeah, the randomized ominos don't always make sense for the constraints, I definitely need to fix that.

game-dev-with-michael 2023-10-05 11:44

Very cool game. I can see this with lots of different puzzles becoming a full game.

Sometimes I would end up needing a piece I had but it was the wrong "version" so I would have to figure out a different path.

I can see you being able to come up with some really evil puzzles with time haha.

enad96 2023-10-05 12:04

I would pay 99c to play a couple hundred levels of this on the train. Great job!

navenka 2023-10-05 12:08

@ogelgames I just played it, it worked perfectly! The game has a very "polished" look, it was fun to play all the levels (great sound design by the way), and as others have said, maybe a few more challenging puzzles would have been nice :)! Great job!

jvdwijk 2023-10-05 13:47

The game was very polished, some polish I would recommend is adding a bonus/perfect object and a small rotation to the blocks.

renrok 2023-10-05 16:06

What a unique take on a standard puzzle game! In an earlier comment you mentioned that pieces are randomized, and I guess every puzzle has multiple solutions?

yerkwell 2023-10-05 20:52

Very nice game! SFX are amazing and visuals are very satisfying. It was not hard, but that's part of the fun

brainoid 2023-10-06 10:43

Great game! We went for a simple approach, and we added some tower defense mechanics on it :P I enjoyed the puzzles. Also I liked that the pieces get randomized on quick reset. Thanks for the entry!

notinatal 2023-10-06 17:56

As a current WR speedrunner of The Password Game, this is really satisfying to see. I like the level of polish and simplicity of this puzzle game and have to say against it. Altough as you can expect, it isn't that much of a challenge so far compared to TPG. Amazing game nonetheless!

f1krazy 2023-10-07 10:07

I thought about doing something like this, but went in a completely different direction in the end. This is very well executed! Simple, but fun. I like the confetti and "toot" noise you get when you satisfy all the criteria, as well as the fact that you can keep adding ominos after that. I had fun seeing how many spaces I could fill on each level, and on one level I actually managed to fill the board entirely! I don't think that's always possible with the randomised ominos, but still.

full.png

Good job!

ogelgames 2023-10-07 12:20

@enad96 You might actually get to do that, I'm thinking of making this into a full game, probably a mobile game :)

@navenka Great to hear it works now, and that you enjoyed it!

@jvdwijk I don't know why I didn't think of that, the ominos totally need to wiggle!

@renrok Yes, they are partially randomized; there is always a solution guaranteed, but there's usually many other possible solutions.

@notinatal I'm currently trying to figure out level generation, so there can be infinite levels, and if I can get that working I'm definitely going to add a speedrun/highscore mode ;)

@f1krazy There is actually a perfect solution for every level, but it's pretty tough to figure them out, nicely done!

fnelix 2023-10-08 09:29

Very cool little game! Looks and plays nice, good use of the theme. I especially enjoyed the sound effects. Extra thumbs up for the custom load progress bar!

equalenergy 2023-10-08 12:15

A really fun little game, thought the custom loading bar was cool!

okshirl 2023-10-08 18:01

oh this was so much fun! The puzzles were engaging and easy to understand. I love how you used the same colour in the conditions and for the blocks, it makes it so much easier to know which one's which. It'd be cool if I could see how many blocks I've placed in because sometimes I lost count and the same colour blocks blend together. I think the level progression could pick up faster at the start, or perhaps there could be bonus "4-star" challenges like use only 5 blocks or fill up the entire square. :D Would love to play this on mobile as a full game!

ditam 2023-10-09 07:58

Very nicely polished, I enjoyed it. (Shout-out to the polyomino game gang!)

If you added a Rotate button to the UI (or maybe rotating via double clicking), this would work perfectly well on mobile devices too! I also tried it on my phone, and that was the only issue stopping me.

metagen 2023-10-09 08:41

Neat slice-fitting puzzle game.

schadocalex 2023-10-09 09:51

Nice and polished little game. I feel a bit frustrated because it was (for me) a bit too easy and because it's not very satisfying to let empty squares, I would like a rule "0 empty space" (at least for harder levels). Also sometimes I don't really understand rules like "no red omino".

But I've played until the end so I would way it's a great entry for me!

jacinto-mba 2023-10-09 10:01

I made it!! So satisfying to play this. I have a new addiction :)

decentsauce 2023-10-09 10:25

Awesome game!! Very easy to pick up and it felt very fun to tick all the rules off in every level. I also liked that it felt like there was a lot of room to come up with your own solution. My only issue is that in some levels you had a rule to place 0 ominos of a certain color but then there were no pieces of that color so that felt a bit redundant. Also maybe some chill background music but other than that this is the perfect little ludum dare game to me! :)

n-feofentov 2023-10-09 12:29

Love such types of puzzles. Personally, I would prefer more curated hand-made puzzles for each level rather than randomized, but I understand that it is very hard in such a short terms. Good job!

baturinsky 2023-10-09 13:36

Levels 1-9 are too easy, level 10 is the right amount of hard for the final level, but feels a bit too hard because difficulty does not ramp up to it. Could use some stretch goals, such as "you have to do that to solve the level, but for extra star leave no empty cells".

joaog 2023-10-09 16:11

imagem_2023-10-09_130643375.png The game is simple, but it is also challenging. I love the sound like bubbles. Great job!

skel3ton 2023-10-09 19:15

awesomely cool and simple.. the fanfare at the end gave the right feeling of satisfaction.. thanks for this simple little game

daveco 2023-10-09 23:13

The BEST game I have played this jam!!!! As others have said, more challenging levels would be great. Also, what is the point of the constraint of 0 of a certain color block?

farouchelark 2023-10-11 23:24

neat little game! Super clean and fun to play.

ogelgames 2023-10-12 04:40

@okshirl Yeah, I noticed that issue too, I'm still deciding whether to add an outline to the ominos, or make them highlight when you hover over them, or both. Maybe I'll just remove the "At least X ominos" rule, the "No more than X empty spaces" rule is better anyway.

@ditam Yep, rotating is definitely a awkward thing for mobile, a button could be an option; or maybe a double tap or swipe would be better, so you only need one hand :)

@schadocalex @decentsauce @daveco I didn't think of the possibility of no ominos of the specific color spawning, making that rule redundant. I might just get rid of that rule, even when there are ominos in the specific color it's kinda boring, because it's just reducing the number of ominos you have to choose from.

@n-feofentov The levels were actually "hand made", but made too look random, by making some of the ominos randomized, and randomizing the spawn positions. There are perfect solutions for every level, as you can see here:

solutions.png

oter 2023-10-15 14:52

I just played after seeing your post about random level generation as you keep working on the game. It's a nice little satisfying game so I'm glad you're continuing development on it.

My only bit of feedback while playing was that I couldn't tell some colors apart: pink and orange were impossible and green and cyan were difficult but doable (I'm not color blind but use a lot of blue light reduction filters on my monitor). I know you said you might change the rules so colors don't matter, but while playing I thought of a "color blind mode" option where the background is divided and labeled, and pieces of each color spawn only in their area rather than in fully randomized spawn locations. I don't know how hard this would be for you to implement, but it was my biggest wish while playing and would be helpful if did end up keeping the rules about colored ominos.

Otherwise it's a great game, I really like the art and sfx!

juanrod707 2023-10-15 15:12

Amazing entry! Brilliant application of the theme and incredibly rewarding as a gameplay experience, this has been one of my favourite entries so far!

tiseno 2023-10-15 15:14

Really polished, and very enjoyable game, it was good that there was only 10 levels because I could have easily kept playing for an hour more. Superb! :ok_hand:

keely-brown 2023-10-16 01:18

Got to level 8 thinking this was a brutally difficult game before I realized that you could rotate the pieces. Carrying that forward - I realized that this was a nice and pleasant puzzle game with tight mechanics. Some of the rules felt a little arbitrary and didn't affect the game though.
