Ran fine for me. Enjoyed it! Not sure about the "start with nothing theme though"? Enjoyed your graphics and sound in particular.
Doesn't work here either, blank window pops up for a second then goes away.
Thanks for the feedback! My interpretation in this case was that you build up your fort, because initially you don't have one ("nothing"). Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!
I'll look into the crash issues right away.
cool gameplay, some extra things could be added for extra umph in looks like more particles, but the game is still super cool
Thank you!
The graphics are incredibly good! The sound effects fit well and the core idea of the game is strong. Small changes in the music, perhaps like phases, where if robots are coming the music changes up a bit, would make a world of difference, especially as it is a little repetitive. Some kind of mechanic to make the box sticky to the robot could be a nice quality of life feature. Great submission!
Those are very helpful comments. Thanks very much!
@geoff-nagy Great job! I like the graphics! This game is also kind of similar to my entry except for my is 3D -)
Great graphics and fun game play. Driving that little car was hard! lol So was protecting myself from the robots! Nice polished game :)
Hi @pavel-ivanov. Thanks very much! I played your game just recently, and really enjoyed it.
Thanks, @lanalux. Glad you liked playing it!
I scored 1.3k. Really convincing graphics and clean gameplay.
The landing screen explanation doesn't note that the player can ram into enemies to destroy them. The white text that pops up in-game (e.g. gold crate spawn) is difficult to catch. I also felt that things could've ramped up faster and generally gone faster overall.
Besides these points, I'd only like to see extensions on what you've already established. I thought this was really good.
1.3K?? Wow! You're right, I should explain the ramming and make the gold crate spawn message more clear. Thanks very much---I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Couldn't start the game, I crashed, even though I started it from the bin folder. Disclaimer: I was using Wine to run this Windows game on Linux.
Output:
`[07-10 08:05:02]: starting SIGIL...`
`[07-10 08:05:04]: loading assets...`
`sliLoadWaveFormat() encountered AL error 40963 when buffering ../wav/next-level.wav`
Hi @finalforeach. Thanks for letting me know. I've been unable to duplicate this issue on any of my machines, sadly. A proper OpenAL installation might fix this issue. I've provided "oalinst.exe" for this purpose, in the "bin" folder. Failing that, I've also provided a windows BAT file which will run an OpenAL diagnostic and save the results to a text file. An additional fix might be to try using a different audio device---any chance you have a special headset or speakers connected?
Graphics are fantastic for a jam game!
Thank you, @inventivum-games!
Great job! Cool graphics on everything, the enmies, the level ground, player. The music and the strobing lights, as well as the visuals, really gave you that automated factory feel, and the music was nice while adding a sense of urgency. I especially loved the little touches with the menus; both the starting screen, and the Pausey Pausey bit :D
My only gripe was the movement, which I suppose was meant to be annoying (?). It made it super hard to position the boxes, which is fine and adds to the challenge, but for me it mostly made it frustrating.
Overall it's amazing, incredibly well polished for being a jam game.
It's a pretty nice game here! Made my way to level 7, bigger tanks were quite of a deal being hard to track (one could focus on the yellow boxes only, and they're a priority but we can simply not know that they're here. Maybe a minimap would have helped if we had > 48h!). Honestly, my experience of the game was pretty smooth: I got hooked up and got better at it over time while difficulty increased.
I enjoyed that experience and the music is nice and greatly adapted! Good job
@tadeas-paule: Thanks very much! A gripper mechanic has been suggested instead of a pushing one---perhaps that's something for future work. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
@blint6: Thank you! I was hoping some folks would stick with it enough to encounter the larger "spawner" tanks. Maybe I'll have them move in a bit so they're a bit more obvious. A mini-map is also a great suggestion. Thanks! Glad you found it fun!
@geoff-nagy That would be interesting! The slippery movement you have now was OK and unique, and added to that robot theme, but it became frustrating when the safety of your precious boxes depended on it. Combining that movement with a gripper to pull boxes towards you would make for more interesting gameplay and less frustration with the movement :)
@tadeas-paule That's a great tip---I agree!
The game is fun, very smooth control, although I'm not particularly good with this type of game lol.
I also had the "blank window pops up for a second then goes away" issue. After I disabled my anti-virus software, I can open it just fine.
Good job
@compasslg: Thank you! I'm happy to hear that you found it fun. That's an interesting fact about the anti-virus, though---will keep that in mind.
The gameplay is rather simple but very fun. The difficulty should probably ramp up faster. It's really easy to defend one box, especially if you move it to the corner. Great entry!
@lamossus: Ha---I was wondering when players would discover that trick! Glad to see someone did. Thanks for playing; I appreciate it and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Nice game! I think the best strategy is to put all boxes in a corner, makes it very easy to defend.
@rillep: Glad you like it! Yep, that's a feasible strategy. I'm glad players are thinking creatively. :)
crashes for me: ``` [07-10 12:43:21]: starting SIGIL... [07-10 12:43:22]: loading assets... ```
Well done, was fun to play. Like others mentioned, corner fort is the meta :). Snap 2019-10-07 at 14.13.28.png
The controls are really not easy it is necessary to restart several times to get used to it... Well done!
@copito: Any chance you're using Wine? Some folks have reported issues with that. Another individual mentioned that disabling the anti-virus allows it to run.
@griz: Yep, that's a fun strategy!
For a compo game this has a lot of polish. Well done! I like the gameplay, although it got quite hard after a few rounds :) Music is well made but got kind of repetetive after a while.
It's cool arcade game, little robots make great things !
@attala Thank you! Glad you liked it.
@robowarrior1982 Yes they do! Thanks!
It's fun! Simple mechanics. Really polished game. I liked that the tutorial was also the way to begin the game.
Well done.
Thanks @pincushion!
Solid entry! I got to level 5 when the big tanks come out. I think the time between levels is a little too long and the speed is a little too slow. Improving pacing would encourage me to try again. Good stuff, thanks!
Enjoyed this, great job robots seem to be huge for this theme
The game does not work...
@danny-wynne Thanks very much! A few folks have mentioned that the pacing might be a little slow, yes. I'll take that under advisement.
@radgegames They sure have, haven't they? Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi @matharoo. Any chance you're using Wine? That has been known to cause issues. Additionally, one user mentioned that they had to disable their antivirus to get the game to run.
Seems i cant get it to open :(
Nice game!
After 30min played, I don't think I can lose, and it's getting tedious :)
Cool explosions and light effects! Well done! I had fun!
Robo-Fort (LD45 Submission by Geoff Nagy)_3.png
Nice straightforward game. Loved the stacking. Very therapeutic.
realy well made game. gj. cant realy say anything else. it feels quite polished and complete. only that the corner fort meta should be banished from this earth. :dog: :dog:
@mad-brokli: Are you using Wine? Some folks have reported issues. Also, anti-virus software sometimes causes problems.
@notime4games Yep, that corner-stacking strategy is a clever way to keep the win streak going! Thanks for the feedback!
@evgenimp Thanks very much! Glad you enjoyed it.
@lombax Glad you enjoyed playing! I'll have to think about how to prevent that stacking strategy---for a quick compo in the short term, I was completely open to the idea that users would come up with clever ideas like this. If this game develops into something more, I'll definitely need to address this.
Hey, nope not using wine. Just normal windows. Ill try later and disable the antivirus
@mad-brokli Thanks for the info. There is also a "lastplaylog.txt" log file that may contain some useful information---unfortunately, I've not been able to duplicate this issue on any of my machines.
Awesome game. Controls were hard to use and my robot was sliding all over the place. I also found it more beneficial to hit the robots with my own robot instead of place boxes since I didn't take any damage. Controls made me slowly give up.
@winslow Thanks for the feedback! I'm sorry you found the controls frustrating. Could you elaborate? I'm a little confused what you meant by the robot "sliding all over the place"---the robot should barely slide at all (although it's supposed to, but only a little bit!). Thanks!
@ogre @cethin @finalforeach @copito @matharoo @mad-brokli Hi, sorry to ping you all like this. I've discovered a bug where the game wouldn't start if there's insufficient memory on the GPU to store the texture sprite sheets. I've applied a fix to this by shrinking several of them, so the game might run now for some (or all) of you. If you have the time, please give it a try and let me know. Thank you!
seems to work ok now, i'm surprised it was down to vram though, my gpu has 6GB.. that must have been 1 mighty sprite sheet!
Pretty cool game! The controls feel satisfyingly responsive, and although I'm quite bad at maneuvering like this, it was fun. The game looks quite professional actually, really good job on that! Some more juice in the camera-work would've been great. It was nice to find out that I could crash into the enemies and stop them like this, if you plan to develop this game further I'd emphasize this mechanic more, i.e. by adding a boost. I could also see this going more into a tower defense direction, where you collect the spare pieces of destroyed enemies and crates and build more defensive stuff yourself. The music is pretty good, but the drum sound gets annoying quickly. The theme seems a little absent, but whatever :) Overall, I enjoyed this quite a bit, well done!
@copito Glad things are working now!
@erkberg Thanks for playing---I'm glad you enjoyed it! My take on the theme was that you build up your fort from nothing, but there are definitely some submissions on LD45 with more "truer" interpretations in that sense. Thanks again!
Nice simple game! The game generally plays really smooth and I actually really enjoy the controls. I felt like I was driving a forklift, and I started getting the hang of it and pushing multiple boxes around. I think the difficulty should ramp up a little faster to force a loss eventually, as I found it was a bit too easy. Difficulty tuning is an art, it's hard to peg in 48 hours. I wasn't exactly sure how the theme fit in though, I suppose you don't start with any defenses set up.
The graphics were really nice to look at, the effects were excellent. It felt extremely polished. I enjoyed the music for the most part. A second "calm" track that played in the fort-building phase would have added a lot to the impact of the awesome intense song, but hey it's a game jam and it's impressive that you have audio at all in a compo!
Overall a nice entry!
@wheffle Thanks very much for such detailed feedback! Much appreciated. I'm very glad you enjoyed the game.
Combos are very hard to pull off good job
Thanks @aden!
This is an awesome game you got here. The driving is amazingly smooth, found myself doing doughnuts! Add some handbrake and I'll lose quicker due to being distracted! Real fun idea, kudos on doing this on COMPO! Well worth the 2nd chance :)!
I enjoyed pushing crates into a protective fort and crashing into other bots. I either got lucky or maybe it was a bit too easy as I got to level 10+ on my first attempt.
It is a good game idea, and great to achieve for the compo!
I streamed it here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/491837292?t=02h34m05s
@mad-brokli Thanks for giving the game a second chance---I'm glad it worked for you and that you enjoyed it. Feedback was greatly appreciated!
Hi @shrapx. Thanks for streaming it! I'm happy to hear that you liked playing it!
I had fun playing this. Nice concept.
@stuckne1 Thanks! I'm glad you found it fun.
Nice game. Really complete. I enjoyed playing it. Graphics are good! Good job! :)
@artzibal Thank you! Glad you liked it!
Really cool game :) Movement felt a bit clunky, I would prefer a higher rotation speed. There is a way to farm infinite points by placing yourself infront of one of the big robots and killing every small one it spawns after you clear the rest of the wave. Graphics audio and gerneral gameplay are top notch tho. The theme was not really there but that's a fair tradeoff for such a good game :)
@ausstein Thank you for your quality feedback! I'm glad player are trying clever tricks like "farming" points---that means they enjoy the game.
@geoff-nagy If I see a possibility for an exploit I go for it always ;)
Actually, I really like this game, I didn't have high expectations though. Somehow this wake up nostalgia for 00s games (maybe it's music and art style). I'm not sure how it relates to the theme and controls are tricky, but it was very fun to play and it's challenging!
Thanks, @daria-toni; I'm happy that you liked it. My take on the theme was that you build your fort from nothing, but it seems that a lot of other folks took this to a whole 'nother level (and quite creatively, too!).
Not bad. Frankly I think the player's speed ought to be much higher; it's hard to get more than two or three crates into your fort area during the time allotted.
@ketura Noted. Thanks for the feedback!
This is such a good game. I love how the music kicks in as I move the box towards the area that specifies that I will be playing the game. You can use what you coded up for the actual game for the menu BUT you're essentially giving your operator instructions on how to play the game at the same time that they are instructing the game to begin, similar to what Mega Man X does. Great thought went into that. The mechanics (from an operator's perspective) are easy to understand. There's virtually no learning curve but the challenge is immediately felt and the operator becomes engaged to do exactly what they need to do on their very first try. Great job!
@stephenwhoskins Thank you for the kind feedback! Much appreciated, and I'm glad you like the game.
The graphics are just amazing, i mean, the overall consistent art style is just outstanding in COMPO category and the UI is nice!
Thanks, @hiroboto! Glad you liked it.
