I absolutely loved this! The simple concept of "click to continue" but everything about its presentation just made it so enthralling. I loved the music and tone. Really great job!

zac-mcdonald 2017-12-05 01:40

The mood is so well established. The music really helped to engage and the tension builds up perfectly. Really liked how the crown would 'go to his head' as he presents his thoughts. I found I was really tensed up anticipating the last click, and the ring of the crown in silence finishes nicely. The torches were a nice touch, the only thing moving and visible the whole time. I loved it!

jsqrs 2017-12-05 09:22

beautiful art and mood. I loved the transition of light and the tiny flicker of the torches in the darkness. Keep up the good work!

groydis 2017-12-05 09:34

Trying to find the "game" in this, i guess it's not a game, but what it is, is a beautiful piece of narrative with interactive elements that add to the mood. Well done.

gao-ming 2017-12-05 09:36

Great work&Sound effects!Love the idea!

fabian-pohl 2017-12-05 10:31

Well the lack of gameplay is well compensated with solid graphics and atmosphere. It was an enjoyable interacticve comic.

kraftkar 2017-12-05 10:39

Nice buildup! Excellent music and sound design. Good job!

andreadbx 2017-12-05 10:58

Beautiful art, the concept is very original, Bravi ragazzi :D

mrsnakeyohoho 2017-12-05 11:05

Great graphics, good sounds effect!!! original idea!

josscomposer 2017-12-05 11:56

WTF ! It's great and beautiful... Great sound programming too... You should play to our game, we too worked really hard on all the sound :-) https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/the-darkest-light

juliensnz 2017-12-05 12:11

Really nice ambiance and graphics. Not really a game but pretty nice!

gaming-night 2017-12-05 12:56

Wow, what a cool experience. I really liked the perfect spacebar use :)

Unfortunately I can't find the theme in the gameplay :/ It will be my only complaint ...

Well done !!

bitsandcrafts 2017-12-05 14:48

work of art! awesome job.

kenjimarcio 2017-12-05 14:51

Good Work!

jeffchen 2017-12-05 14:53

It is worth for 5 star!Every thing is so perfect

crock 2017-12-05 14:53

Very nice job, love the atmosphere and grphics, congratz :)

cibbler 2017-12-05 14:56

The mood was amazing, the sounds and visuals are stunning. I just kinda don't get it? :D But yeah it was really cool just really not my type of 'game'

recursor 2017-12-05 14:57

More of an experience than a game, but I really liked it. The ominous music and giving the player the job of pressing the spacebar which in the end is the king's undoing is well done.

torfi 2017-12-05 14:58

My reign was short but glorious. 5 stars.

waraiko 2017-12-05 15:01

Cool idea, really loved the tension of the game. 5 out of 5, would get regicided again

conk 2017-12-05 15:01

As others have said, the audio and graphics are really well executed. Pressing space bar every now and then with no variation of outcome doesn't really seem like a game to me though.

6smith 2017-12-05 15:21

one of the most unique games i've played this jam. really fantastic work

casper 2017-12-05 15:21

Very intense!

shrapx 2017-12-05 15:34

The distance of the kings perspective from the masses makes for an interesting subject. The story is told through foreboding mood in the music and graphics and it fits the theme well. The kings lack of movement restricted the "game" to a slideshow, and similarly with the static view.

asghardian-game-studio 2017-12-05 15:46

Cool sound and graphics, very conceptual and intense game, the breathing sound really catch me

yetman 2017-12-05 16:26

LOL, That was very funny. While I don't consider this a game, it was so great that I don't care. The contrast between kings monologue and the masses was one of the funniest I have seen in a long while. The art and sfx are great too. I love it.

xahell 2017-12-05 16:26

Great mood, nice graphics and very innovative.

Lacks some kind of game play though, it feels more like a webcomic.

encinas-g 2017-12-05 17:33

Loved the atmosphere! Really nice! Good Job!

inkystache 2017-12-05 17:37

Wow... That was an intense experience, extremely unsettling and tense. The crown shrouding the king's eyes is some great symbolism. The audio is extremely smart and effective. It's definitely more of an art piece than a game, but it works so well as it's intended. Awesome job.

tymus 2017-12-05 17:59

Good job guys, this is a really simple piece yet the atmosphere is breathtaking <3

gruhh 2017-12-05 20:36

A beautiful art game, very well executed and with great choices of sound effects. Congratulations!

Um bonito jogo arte, muito bem executado e com ótimas escolhas de efeitos sonoros. Parabéns!

abuki 2017-12-05 21:04

Art is beautiful; the atmosphere is excellent, love the audio. I like the concept of inverted SPACE to read the text. Still, I would like at least small portion of gameplay.

twinghosts 2017-12-05 22:50

Unique! Lovely sound design and implementation, really well done :D

xacur 2017-12-06 00:21

The art is very good, and the game is definitely unique.

supr 2017-12-06 07:46

Very good! Thanks for making this.

sand-gardeners 2017-12-06 08:38

So pleased to see a game where you have to read! <3 This game was greatly executed and very very enjoyable! Thanks you for this game <3

eveningwayward 2017-12-06 11:28

Short and sweet, your use of one button controls impressed me a lot. It's rather hard to call it a game however, you should have mentioned that it's an art project with minimal interaction so that not to disturb some users.

bonelazy 2017-12-06 15:59

This is an interactive art project, but one very well done. Good job

vfabien21 2017-12-07 05:48

Haha, that was an intense experience. I was really wondering whether the king was some sort of sorcered and would get rid of everyone...

naca 2017-12-07 16:56

What a beautiful plaything! Well done folks.

oldpeculier 2017-12-08 02:10

I must be missing something. I see no graphics, just text.

giucapan 2017-12-08 10:08

@oldpeculier could you tell us which OS, graphics card etc. you are using? Or are you trying to play the webgl version? I'm sure we can find a solution :)

dunin 2017-12-08 11:58

Nice narration, perfect mood, and great audio.

crdmrn 2017-12-08 12:11

Very nice, this kind of narration could be used and expanded to so many stories :D

oldpeculier 2017-12-09 00:01

@giucapan The game is text on black with no graphics on macOS 10.13.1 (17B1003) played in Safari Version 11.0.1 (13604.3.5). I find that it works in Chrome.

dx0ne 2017-12-09 11:57

The mood and art style is superb. This is true gamejam gem, that's what I'm looking for in ld/indie games - small, well executed experiences. It's like reading short story/comic book. Love it. And I have strong Mignola vibe.

giucapan 2017-12-09 14:10

@dx0ne truely overwhelmed by your comment. <3

nicmagnier 2017-12-10 11:44

That was a really good short story. I think the mechanic of holding the space bar works really well and is so simple. The game is also exceptional visually and on the audio as they really server the feel of the story.

Because this is a great submission I will allow myself to nit pick: The effect of the light coming up when you release the space bar could be faster to increase the dramatic effect.

rodobodolfo 2017-12-10 18:22

Different, in a good way. i like to play entries like this in a jam. The visuals and sound set the mood perfectly.

jan-netusil 2017-12-10 19:01

Genial storytelling. Simple yet effective. Gr8 atmosphere. I really enjoyed this piece. Thanks :)

2017-12-10 22:46

WTF was this?

mr-madcat 2017-12-11 18:44

Not much gameplay to speak of, but it is very atmospheric. I like it. Well done.

Especcialy the crown drop at the end. That was cool.

furet 2017-12-15 04:51

This is an interesting way to portray a message, while keeping things simple. I wondered what the message is by mixing the Statues game with a political situation. The King's breathing sounds, and strange thoughts, made me think he might be dreaming. Overall, a unique, thought-provoking entry, with nice art and sound effects.

ibrahimshersha 2017-12-16 15:27

It was done very well and the lighting effects were nice.Good work

blinry 2017-12-17 19:53

Interesting. Neat storytelling mechanic, the graphics and the light effects are really well-done! Fitting audio, as well, creating a very dense atmosphere. I would like to play more like this! \o/ The story arc seemed obvious to me from the beginning, maybe I would have liked more mystery or story twists. :)
