LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

I definitely know what you mean by it being chaotic. I was going for a target audience of people who play twitch shooter style games, I love them. Hence the difficulty. I find myself always moving and just mowing them down from a distance, once they damage you a bit you can just instagib them. It is supposed to be brutal, but could be toned down for a wider audience. Thanks for the feedback!

Thankyou. Could you tell me what aspects of the controls bothered you? I know shooting from the orbit camera is disgusting, it is played much better by aiming most of the time and orbitting only while running away. @Akryllax

@b34k3rm33p yeah, you really need to be moving constantly. Were you using the Linux build per-chance? I know it has some issues. It worked as intended about 50% of the time for me. It also wasn't tested until the very end, so didn't do much to fix bugs for it.

@Finlal may I ask what part of the controls were awful. I had about 5 people try the game and only got complaints about shooting in the orbit camera which were resolved in the final build.

Thanks @drazil100 was awesome to get some live feedback too on stream, glad you liked it.

@radmccool glad to hear everyone liking the art, it was very fun to make. Regarding the control scheme, I was going for a difficult game but I wanted it to still be goofy to fit the art and mood I wanted, hence why the orbit camera is there so you can see the madness and watch as the critters hunt you down. Likewise the swaying of the crosshair was to make it harder but also highlight some fun with the animation. Glad to hear someone liked the snap-aim with the orbit camera, I added that because a friend wanted to be able to kite while seeing where he was moving, so glad to hear it got used.

I do agree @chinykian that the enemies are quite fast, but this was quite intentional as I really wanted the player to experience a sense of urgency in killing them off, just to see more pile over the shipping containers :yum: It also happens that you move faster diagonally, so that helps immensily if you want to cheese it.

I would have liked to fix the aim camera clipping @arputikos however my first solution just didn't work well so I just left it as is; time limit and whatnot. Regarding the gun fire-rate, as stated on the info board, more ammo = slower firerate, with the inverse being true also. That was 1 of 3 ways the theme was incorporated. That level restart bug does annoy me a little, it works like 80% of the time, relaunch seems to fix.

Thankyou again for the praise @skipyc I think most things you commented on should be addressed.

Thankyou so much guys!! It's been awesome to get your feedback. Almost at 20 ratings too

Really cool usage of the theme; damn those thoughts can be hard to contain. Was very engaging and had you on your feet. It was great!

DaisyChain Galaxy by brittbrady 2017-12-06T01:14:31Z

Was very fun, graphics and audio were adorable. Really appreciate how the belt colours tell the player the first and last guys, was really helpful. Managed a 17 :yum: Very fun and awesome use of the theme!

Who Ate My Pizza? by UnidayStudio 2017-12-06T01:24:58Z

Very much enjoyed the game, found myself frantically looking for the pizza near the end. Managed wave 6 on my second attempt. Good use of the theme. I have to agree with the pizzas blending into the floor sometimes, but it didn't kill the mood too much. Solid game!

Traffic Jammers by jushiip 2017-12-05T01:30:45Z

Was very engaging to play (good music choice btw). Just missed rank 11. I found the time limit kept me on edge during those later levels, it gets much harder with more roads (fits theme). Camera controls were a little weird feeling (the pan mostly) but not game breaking. I very much enjoyed it, definitely requires a strategy after about rank 6.

Ketchup Quest - Endless Arcade Fighting to Protect Your Saucy Stash by samboyer276 2017-12-06T01:57:18Z

Very fun and engaging, tried each of the characters, Ninja definitely feels weaker with the aiming of shooting. Dog was really entertaining, trying to push shooter-guys towards turrets. Was very good indeed. I have to agree about the stack, maybe an outline shader would help without sacrificing the grandness of the tower. I think 80 ketchup was my highest with Lionhardt. Should have a sense of pride and acomplishment in it :yum:

Drug It: There And Back Again by Dlaha 2017-12-05T03:26:28Z

Was a very fun game, had some good laughs from the situations the player gets into. The screen effects are a very nice touch. A very cool use of the theme and a game to be proud of!

Chaparrito's Adventure by Johnsey 2017-12-05T01:48:08Z

Really liked how the theme was incorporated into the game, managing multiple characters was rather difficult. It's a very slow game which makes decisions like where to move feel important however I didn't really get a sense of urgency. I feel that it would have been more engaging if the enemy changed stages (how it starts to shoot 4 ways) earlier and if there were more stages to make it more difficult and make losing lives more meaningful. Alas it was still a really good use of the theme, congrats!

Super Coin by BlueMirror 2017-12-06T08:01:31Z

Was really fun to play, can't say I was very good though :yum: The fact that your bullets seem to be blocked by enemy bullets makes enemy build ups very difficult, not sure if that's intended. Controls are nice and the theme incorporation is pretty cool: really funny that we had similar ideas. It's a solid game, you should be proud.

Burden of Dirt by gamecreatorc 2017-12-05T03:35:48Z

Was quite fun and engaging. I really liked how it becomes a puzzle game with the jump decreasing the more you dig. Would love to see more! I agree with benhamin that some feedback to action would be nice. Plenty of potential, should totally make a post-jam version :yum:

Statues by giucapan 2017-12-05T01:40:03Z

The mood is so well established. The music really helped to engage and the tension builds up perfectly. Really liked how the crown would 'go to his head' as he presents his thoughts. I found I was really tensed up anticipating the last click, and the ring of the crown in silence finishes nicely. The torches were a nice touch, the only thing moving and visible the whole time. I loved it!
