LD57 — Depths

Down by Skyeward 2025-04-13T05:23:48Z

Really well done nice little game. As someone else mentioned, I found some of the texts hard to read with it changing which line the words were on (perhaps a fix would be to ensure the characters are all the same width as their replacements). I also found an exploit bug, where if you were to give / trade an item, you could actually use up the item before choosing the option, which I used a couple times with medicine to get free stuff.

Also, I get the feeling the cooked meat isn't supposed to be a pink square: screenshot2.png

depth mapped by daniel 2025-04-12T07:57:23Z

Love the art style and very cool concept! One thing I would like to see is the depth effect feel more persistent with the non-camera view (rather than just changing the platforms on/off, actually make them colored gradually as they appear in the image). Another concept which this made me think of, is if you took the depth and made that a new 2D level or something.

Also I found a breaking glitch where you can just repeatedly jump up the walls, allowing to skip most puzzles (Edit: I see now you mention that in the description).

Oh, and sometimes I found the controls to be a tad frustrating: 1. At some points I found myself consistently jumping over my target platform or landing on it only to immediately go over the edge 2. If the camera gets close to the player or other objects, the objects completely block the view. This essentially makes it so you can't look up.

Focus Hunt by dhim 2025-04-14T06:14:44Z

I saw the same issue at first as @pixelstain, but only when trying to run it from LD embed, was fixed when I went to the website link, and I'm running Chrome. I also found it strange that the full screen just expanded the page as a whole, not the game within the page (was still rather small).

I also found an extra ladybug, but found the hanging bell impossible to find! I think it's the combination of being very dark to look like just a shadow and being in an unexpected location compared to everything else. Also I know you already said there are performance issues, but I was surprised that just clicking seemed to have a significant performance cost (if I clicked rapidly for a while, the blur movement would just freeze up for a bit.

Otherwise though, a really interesting game and nice take on the theme!

Detstvo by upisfree-2 2025-04-14T05:37:02Z

Interesting entry, though I'm not sure exactly what it has to do with "depth". I would have liked to see more objects be destructible though for maximum ridiculousness (the playground, other various objects, and the apartment would have been cool to be able to actually destroy). I also found a way to get over the edge and just fall off:

Deep Blue by poboy 2025-04-12T06:25:52Z

Great mood and psychological aspects, very interesting even though I got a bit stuck and didn't fully understand the end (though I don't know I was supposed to). I agree with @feor about the length of the increasing madness, and that the morse code entry was frustrating at times.

Deeper into the Black Hole by On100Ruykajop 2025-04-12T07:18:02Z

Cool idea, though I didn't understand exactly what I was supposed to be doing (am I supposed to be going deeper into the blackhole? That seemed to just get a game over). Also the transitions between areas was a bit jarring especially when it didn't stop the play momentarily and sometimes would fall right back down.

KARVINA by Leumas 2025-04-12T08:29:10Z

Cool game, though I couldn't find more than the second oxygen supply and kept running out (I feel like I missed something).

As others said, crosshair should be here especially since the rotation amount depends greatly on how close the cursor is to the player, but can't tell how close it is if all we know is the angle (and only when in front of the player). Perhaps an indicator at the cursor position, but also a toggleable line for the fire direction (for variable difficulty) would be nice.

Also, a tip when exporting with Godot: you can check the "Embed PCK" option under "Binary Format" in the export preset settings, to make it just the single exe without the need for a separate PCK. I don't know why they don't check that by default...

Also, I noticed you had an icon for the exe, but could also set the icon under Project Settings so it shows the same on the Window too ;)

The Depths of Winter: Survive Until Spring by Hammy0212 2025-04-14T06:30:42Z

Interesting game, though after dying a number of times I had to give up on making it to spring. The most frustrating part was when I kept falling down and being surrounded by about 5 or 6 snowmen. Would help if they weren't so relentless (maybe when they charge they could go straight until they hit a wall rather than following you perfectly), there were less motion blur, and a crosshair to help me aim (I missed so much).

I did listen to the whole voice-over still though :)

Pogo Dwarf by NTMalichi 2025-04-12T07:31:22Z

Great concept, but I had to stop playing after the first fall and progress loss (feels very getting over it, which isn't my personal favorite type of game). I might pick it up again later when I have a bit more free time though :)

Range of behavior by MrAntoineSt 2025-04-13T04:48:53Z

Interesting concept with some ridiculous choices, would have loved if some of them were animated though or at least had some appropriate sound effects (gun shot for the shoot another police officer, table crashing sound for flipping the table, etc). I also found it interesting that you can literrally just do nothing and then leave the room.

A Very Deep Tunnel by Sicosiber 2025-04-12T05:53:50Z

Great game, very unique! I agree that prioritizing the dynamic music was a good call! Would love to see this improved upon with those upgrades though, and a deeper tunnel maybe with different areas (and destroying the hives if accidentally placed). Really fun game though!

I also accidentally pressed space instead of E when getting in the cart, so ended up placing a hive and thus could no longer use the cart! (luckily realized right after that I was at the end already):

stuck with the bees.png

Also probably others had mentioned this, but at one point there was some kind of lighting error:

Dive to Survive by Zshandi Krahn 2025-04-12T08:32:46Z

Thanks! Yeah the slow movements are meant to make it really feel like underwater (though maybe overdid it a little). And we added extra chests to balance out the fact there were no checkpoints (didn't have time to code in checkpoints). Will probably change that up a little in a future update. Also will probably update the double-jump floating mechanic a bit too :)

Fill the depths by Erafion 2025-04-12T06:37:56Z

Great game and solid entry! I liked the little sound that played when you try to throw again too soon! :)

DATE IN THE DEPTHS by WHOLE GARBAGE SALE 2025-04-12T07:02:36Z

Cool little game, and good fun vibes!

I tend to agree with what others have said:

- obstacles could have more contrast for better visibility - the silly sounds don't mesh well with the mysterious / tranquil music - needs more of a hook to encourage continued play - Would also have liked to have a full screen option (or at least resizable window)

Echo Dive by Ricesteam 2025-04-12T05:15:04Z

Nice game! I especially like the contrast of the fast speed with the short sight range, makes you feel like you need to be cautious, but then offset with the sonar a bit makes it really feel like you're in a sub.

Znake by thristhart 2025-10-23T05:10:16Z

Solid entry and nice twist on the classic snake formula! As others mentioned, the movement felt a little stilted, though I never felt like it wasn't my fault when I lost at least (in fact it seemed almost like I was sometimes given an extra fraction of a second when about to hit a wall, though that may have just been in my head). One thing I noticed was that the button text was light grey on white making it essentially impossible to read.

Really appreciate the web export too, makes it so much easier to play!

Marble Sky by Zathnic 2025-10-23T03:36:26Z

Interesting game, and I like the colorful aesthetics. But I found that some of the levels were a bit unnecessarily difficult. I think some could have been separated into different levels to make it a bit less frustrating. Also, would have been nice to be able to just use the mouse rather than the arrow keys. One issue I found happening was that marbles would bounce straight back from walls even when they hit at an angle.

Specifically, for the levels being too long, there was the one really long level that was winding and some parts very skinny (I think it was level 4), which after the long winding section was a totally different section that could have been its own level. This made me feel more like the long winding part was just a chore / punishment for every time I made a mistake on the second part rather than a fun challenge.

There was also the one where you essentially make a bridge but they easily bounce off so it has to be super precise (can't remember if it was 5 or 6), which felt like there should have just been one or two less slots to fill. It just felt too repetitive and was easy to make a mistake and have to start all over.

I know there's never really time for playtesting to find these things though, so overall you did a great job!

WIN WIN WIN by terryg 2025-10-23T06:42:02Z

Very fun and addictive, solid entry! But I upgraded my magnet too much and now it just glitches and send me back to the store every time I start :( Just before that it had started glitching sometimes when I'd land on certain platforms, probably because of the density of statues below? Anyway, I would try it again if you fix that glitch, as it's very fun and addictive!!!

Gen0 by tomrijnbeek 2025-10-23T05:30:02Z

Cool concept, but I found it way to hard to identify the colors! Maybe would help to keep the application shown but with an X beside it until the memory is freed or something, especially since some of the colors are so similar!

Also, would be good if there were a web export. I see you're using Godot 4.5 with C# though which doesn't yet support web export. But if you at least export for all the major platforms that would go a long way (and it's typically as easy as installing the template for the platforms).

Side note: I used to use C# with Godot, but decided to just go full GDscript and have really enjoyed it. There's only a few high-level things GDScript is missing still, but overall I think it's better than using C# due to better integration and less verbosity in a lot of things. And I do use C# all the time for my work, which is also a language that I enjoy using, so nothing against C# in general, but would personally recommend trying GDScript for Godot :)

Trash Dash by TomKnocker44 2025-10-24T04:37:24Z

Thanks @batisdark! That car crashing was a bug. We've uploaded a version 1.1 to the itch page (the web player and one of the downloads), which has fixes for the car collisions and the black screen, as well as improvements to the movement to hopefully make turning feel better (at least breaking is quicker), and other improvements. Please check it out if you'd like (more feedback is welcome!)

Trash Dash by TomKnocker44 2025-10-24T04:41:09Z

Thank you @googlefrog for the feedback! We've uploaded a new version with the crashing bug fixed (the game and the car). Though it's interesting that the intermittent car crash not damaging made the gameplay more interesting, maybe an idea for a mechanic!

Trash Dash by TomKnocker44 2025-10-24T04:45:32Z

Thanks @milq, yeah that's the idea is to make it more realistic at the start. But then once you get the upgrades it feels really good as it handles much differently! We have a new version with improved controls on itch if you'd like to give it a try!

Trash Dash by TomKnocker44 2025-10-24T04:46:43Z

Thanks @artur-hawkwing, glad you got the hang of it and enjoyed it! We've got a new version on itch with improved controls and physics if you'd like to check it out!

Trash Dash by TomKnocker44 2025-10-24T04:52:15Z

Thanks for the suggestion @mibi88! I hadn't typically thought much about AZERTY in my games until now. After seeing your comment, I looked up the layout and realized how easy it is to just say "W or Z" and "A or Q" (so long as Z and Q aren't used otherwise). The new version 1.1 on the itch page has this implemented if you'd like to give it a try! I will definitely do this for all my games by default from now on, so thanks so much for that :D

Forgery Frenzy by Katelyn Trout 2025-10-20T07:43:32Z

Awesome game, love the aesthetic and concept, very relatable! I found the first few really easy but the difficulty really ramped up at the end. I know some have criticized the difficulty, which I kind of agree with, though I also feel like it made it more fun and frantic at the end to be rushing and getting things only kind of sort of matching. So long as the match scoring takes similar colors into account (which it seemed to), I don't think it's too big a deal for it to not have super high contrast :)

RIPOFF by 5H08 2025-10-20T08:06:30Z

Neat concept, and we all hate scalpers! I was a bit frustrated by the fact that the full screen just totally broke it so was left with less than the full view since it was too big to fit in the browser window and had scroll bars on both sides. I found it easier to just look around for the scalpers than to use the phone. Also interesting and funny you can use the knocked out scalpers to jump on! Best score I got was 525 :)

The Ether Collector by ophiene 2025-10-23T04:54:53Z

Drive link said I need permission, and Dropbox gave a 404. I would highly recommend uploading to an itch.io page instead and just link to that, as it looks better and won't have such errors.

Edit: I tried the other drop box link and it didn't 404, but it's asking me to make an account on drop box to view it lol, don't want to do that. Like I said, just upload to itch.io page instead next time so more people will enjoy your game (or at least use something that doesn't require extra steps to download).

Harvest of Wyrd by Arkadi Voronchenko 2025-10-23T04:50:48Z

Interesting game, and cool character and world design. But I did get stuck, as other had mentioned, in between some of the plants you can't chop. At first it happened at the beginning of the first run so not a big deal, but then several runs in and ended up not collecting all the relics cuz I didn't want to have to wait the full time (it was right after I got the extra minute too lol).

I would also highly recommend having a web build available, as it will increase the likelihood of people actually playing your game. This is because people are often wary of downloading executable since they could contain viruses, but also for reasons like OS compatibility. In my case I found I had to install an extra C++ thing which was also a bit annoying. If Unreal Engine can't do that, maybe try some other engines for your next jam (I highly recommend Godot).

Also along the same lines, you should use the built-in file upload rather than Google drive, as I feel like using Google drive seems less polished. For the post-jam version I would then recommend linking to a page on itch.io

Madness bar by sick machine 2025-10-23T05:56:02Z

Interesting artwork and cool concept! It's a shame you weren't able to finish the gameplay (I feel like you were intending to have the conversations play a role in beating the game but didn't have time for that). Also it seems the instructions are mixed up in the description, as pressing E both interacted and progressed the conversation, which threw me off for a bit trying to press G.

One other thing I noticed was that the itch.io full screen button didn't work properly, as I had to use the Unity full screen button instead. Maybe it would be better to just disable the itch one in the settings?
