LD54 — Limited Space

Cosmic Chaos by Jiri_One 2023-10-08T14:03:45Z

at start I didn't know what to do with the grid screen, but that I figured pretty fast by tapping keyboard buttons.

nice pew pew game! good implementation of the theme.

I like the relaxed music.

quality of life improvement could be that when placing upgrade-blocks, you could swap blocks if they fit the same space. Like the block you are holding on and the block on the grid.

I wish I was just better driver

Total Party Swipe by Sheepolution 2023-10-03T13:14:25Z

Nice artstyle! I love that you animated all the characters.

music and sound effects are well implemented. Game feels finished.

Gameplay is somewhat confusing at first, but you get hang of it after a while.

There is no end to monsters, as space comes open it is filled with another monster. I know this is related to the theme, but it also it challenging and there is no rest in between. Of course you can take your time and plan your turns for as long as you want which is good in this case.

one improvement would be to add arrows pointing at which tiles are affect by which skill. I can see the highlighted tiles, but they don't tell me what skills do what when moving tiles. different color arrows or tile highlights could maybe do that.

I always forget wizard does diagonal fireballs and place him in bad place.

Refugees of Oblivion by arzi 2023-10-05T14:57:24Z

At first I had no idea what to do. Read your instructions here. Still no idea. after a bit of stumbling, found out you need to open the thing that reads "see next arrival" AND THEN press where it goes.

On the first run, I ended up killing everyone or something

Second try got further, opened some new tiles and killed everyone on hunger

Third time I notice the text about the tension will grow or so. Again run out of food. I see you get some food when you bring people in, but it still goes down.

next tries I keep running out of food.

Then I start dismissing some people who don't bring food to the table

Can't put anyone in a tile that has people died. destruction is brutal.

Then I start to get it more balanced. slow steady increase of food and soul dust. Waiting for that dust to rise. It's like spice of life in some worlds they say!

music has some mystique in it, atmosphere is spot on.

Propechy of Nalakh has been fulfilled. Thanks for making it!

I read you made this fast. So I'm not harsh on the details. It's interesting, I wonder how could you improve on this where this game could go next?

Power signature by vidarn 2023-10-03T14:16:49Z

first of, the main menu gravity physics, nice!

second, audio track, excellent!

third, the cat and dog faces! LOVE IT!

Artstyle is like concept art.(probably is) but fits in well. Makes it feel bit more fluffy and comfortable, even though machines and rocks are hard stuff.

Game mechanics need little bit try and error at start as nothing is explained what every item does

Leave-button could be further away from the "end turn" button. Almost accidentally pressed it. they could have different color also.

I like how well you implemented the ship, animations, scene change, action and robot selection. Everything feels thought through. You even included a nice story into it that evolves the further you get.

interesting ending, could be expanded further.

Wide Truck Simulator by Byzilio 2023-10-07T11:33:28Z

that is really bizarre game  love it!

got somewhere, but then the route kinda ended, not sure where to go. EDIT: ok saw the text "thanks for playing after fitting the truck in the top narrow part. Almost didn't go there, because why? there is nothing, no indication or reason to go there.

I like wiggling back and forth in it.

simple blocky pixelated style works for this game.

reminds me of my game-entry for the ludum dare jam which had theme shapeshift.

Death Robot Of Doom by Anaconda Games 2023-10-07T11:50:38Z

after first wave I'm unable to shoot. Not sure what is that about.

Dungeon Junk by Stormharrier 2023-10-03T11:53:30Z

I made 362 gold!

I like the drawings you made. They are well drawn out. Did you draw those on paper and scanned them?

gameplay wise I think it is missing some reason to collect the gold. Maybe you could exchange it for better looting chance? I guess you run out of time to work on it more. But great job for a gamejam!

I think the collecting items could be little bit faster.

Simple and easy to learn game. Could work on mobile too.

music and sound effects would at a lot the feel.

UPGRADE - OUT OF MEMORY by Worido 2023-10-07T11:10:41Z

wow this is a hard one!

those enemies move fast.

blocks doesn't block enemies or player in anyway, but gives player some stat boost.

once you are dead, it's back to the beginning. I kinda wish you would start on the level where you were on. but ok it's like permadeath. let's do this!

cant_place.PNG

for some reason can't place block there? Also figured out you can rotate those blocks.

tetris_perhaps.PNG

got to wave 3. I started putting the blocks at the bottom. I kinda wish there was Tetris-like system that the blocks would disappear when placed in a row or something. also your boosts would go away or not? and placing them could be like mini tetris game. but it's a different game then I guess.

Adding sound effects and some particles would add a lot. also music. but I guess you didn't have enough time. You can use music from the internet and keep the audio rating disabled like it is, that's one option.

Simple visual, easy to understand and are clear to see. enemies move quite fast. Shooting is bit hard, as you don't always know will it hit or not. Also bullets are not instant so that needs to take into account. This game needs skill to play which is a good thing.

Maybe placing blocks in different tiles would add different boosts to them also? like extra points to health boos in top left corner for this turn, or something. Now you are just placing them block anywhere.

Tried few more times, can't get past 3rd wave. I'm bad at this. Maybe someone else is better. The difficulty ramps up very fast.

But I did like playing it. Good implementation overall. Could be expanded further definitely.

Roots, for LD 54 by slimefriend 2023-10-03T08:16:33Z

first playthrough I picked up the plants way too early and made the roots maybe too long at start. Got kinda softlocked and there is no option to restart. But you can restart the webpage at least.

instruction text keeps reappearing every day and on the store too. maybe move it halfway hidden down out of the way when clicked to close and if hovered over or clicked it would come back to view fully.

music is really fitting, relaxed and up beat.

I like the artstyle. Reminds me of those NES games.

There is a minor bug: you can pick up the plant and not sell it and go to the store buy new seeds and it will replace the plant. Maybe disable shop while you have the plant over the player.

Game fits with the theme very well. you kinda need to play tetris.

You could improve the game to not use mouse at all. Selecting seeds to grow them at night could have the first to the left selected at start and then you need to choose where to grow it. If you wanna plan routes carefully for rest you have to plan ahead, which in turn would be a game mechanic to challenge the player. Growing plants further than their needs are maybe should move to selecting next plant to grow its roots. When all plants have needs met, night would turn to day.

Maybe add indicator when plant is fully grown and ready to be harvested. Then again knowing when to do that is one part of the gameplay also.

second bug: I had a seed on me and was planting it to the second from left slots. I had a plant in the first one growing and I picked it at the same time as I planted the other one. Maybe limit the action to planting when carrying seeds.

not sure what happens if you don't have space for seeds to go to. Maybe option to drop them somewhere?

One Escape From Franky's by AploveStudio 2023-10-07T11:54:06Z

oh gowd! scared the shit out of me!

Skybacon inc. by Dekajoo 2023-10-05T19:08:29Z

I like how the game introduces the things in small batches. Start has a nice tutorial with images.

Music is relaxing. Graphics are funny, so is sounds too!

I like you implemented puzzles. It's really a puzzle game and you guys made it well.

Oh I've run out pieces! There must be another solution then. Nice.

Oh there is pieces you can't turn. You made the puzzles work with the items so good.

It's like printing out well-fed pigs!

Merge Soldier by LinWenHao 2023-10-03T07:28:02Z

fullscreen_ui_big.PNG got one issue, when adding upgrades: UI doesn't fit in fullscreen 1920x1080px screen, but is still playable.

nice implementation within the theme.

I did use lot of archer damage upgrades mostly.

I don't quite understand the merge of soldiers, it sometimes does it and sometimes doesn't even if they seem to be same type.

I like the speed option once it gets really running.

I wish you could choose in what row you place the soldiers. putting soldiers in front would help more. but I guess it's part of the design.

If you add some particle effects, sounds effects, music, background image, sprite images and polish the UI and add extra gamemodes it could a fully fledged game. Good work for a gamejam!

A Pawfect Date: Pomo's Cozy Romance by Pomo 2023-10-03T13:30:25Z

I tried your game's web version. Can't get past the gun shooting

There indeed was a reason hidden there lol.

Nice game. For the starting part I tought this was going to go weird direction.

Good implementation of game mechanics.

Story at start went away automatically so fast I couldn't read all the words in it.

I think you can update the web version if you got some bugs in it. Add a changelog about what has been fixed.

A Pawfect Date: Pomo's Cozy Romance by Pomo 2023-10-03T16:23:21Z

I'll cladly play nerfed version as well! Just notify us here when it's available. :)

SURFSTRONAUT - Limited Space by RobbzenOne 2023-10-11T20:51:16Z

I liked it, nice touch to add a highscore system!

It's not so easy to control. not sure what moving forwards of backwards on the board do?

jumping though seems to get you out of trouble or into one.

Jam-Pack by Plutonium Powered 2023-10-03T07:48:14Z

Really nice visuals! Animations work fluently.

Gameplay is simple to understand and learn.

Sound effects and music complement the visuals.

Rotating items with other items is bit hard, but I see it's part of the gameplay feel.

some levels don't give points like level 5 with a small luggage. I packed it full over the edges.

There's no time limit or challenge. I guess there was no time to do it. It would give player more motivation keep going when challenged.

I really like the artstyle.

Corner Surf by Mikhail Ershov 2023-10-03T07:30:01Z

links are missing! :(

Critical Core by Benjamin Halko 2023-10-03T18:24:53Z

Very nice! Addicting gameplay. Well fitting arcade graphics, music is nicely done and it even evolves.

I wonder how you implemented global highscores, is it on private database or a is there a public service for that use? I think there is one I've seen but don't remember the name of it. EDIT: ok yeah I guess you use firebase, thats always an option to a some point.

I kinda wish this was longer  EDIT2: ok it is longer if you just get further

Limited Space by sebi 2023-10-03T07:10:56Z

first try I didn't understand what you need to do, but after few restarts it's more clear what needs to be done. Maybe a tutorial/instructions before the time starts would work. Implementation is good, music is relaxing and visuals are wonderful. Good relaxed gameplay for a writers or people who like typing. Also makes you go through your vocabulary.

The Purraformer by froissant 2023-10-04T07:40:29Z

Got all the types and filled the planet, yay!

Nice relaxing game.

At start I thought you need to make those circles around rocks to make stuff, but find out quickly you don't need to. Just mix and match different types together.

If you wanna work on it more, then maybe add different planets with different types. Maybe you need a space rocket and then you can move to another planet?

I thought you could add to that road somehow, the don't connect if they are not in line and same direction. Did learn that the cats direction effects road direction.

If you wanna make it even harder: disable resource respawning, only give one item per source. That way you need to strategize more how to fill the planet. Also removing the option to reset some types to the default starting tile would make it harder. But I guess it wouldn't be as much fun than filling the planet fast.

Bastion's Bumfuzzled Bean-er-ry by RookRules 2023-10-03T18:07:28Z

nice funny music, simple one button gameplay, fits the theme, well made art. Like it!

Conquest by arachnid56 2023-10-04T08:38:47Z

At first I thought that there is a problem, because I couldn't move units to other countries, turns out I need to have units there first in the move phase. maybe have a text saying "you currently don't have any units in any other countries, you can't move units now. you need to first attack other countries, that is done in the next phase."

It says you can see log somewhere? -> later found out that enter-button thingie.

you don't choose how many units you use to attack another country? or is it the amount of unit one country you control at that time?

Ok, I pressed the "finish turn" before pressed Enter to do the attack. Maybe it should be a button too, so it would go with rest of the UI. And have the finish turn disabled if you have selected to attack another country.

Maybe when player doesn't have anything to do show it to the player, so they can finish their turn and move on faster.

There is no log of AI turns. you just see them happen. Maybe a log list of all the events what have happened would be nice.

There is no undoing unit placement. maybe with right-mouse button to undo placement of a unit to a country. but only those units that have been placed on that turn.

Ok turns out you can attack multiple countries in each phase. Just need to do them one country at a time.

conquest_bug.PNG

I think I found a bug. All of a sudden my germany has 39 units, when it last round had 3. Also Italy got 10 units, when it was earlier at 4.

conquest_bug2.PNG

Next round AI places wins countries that are not next to its borders. I guess the visuals don't match with the countries they have or some state of who owns what country is mangled at this point.

Can't see Norway's(Oh wait, it's over Sweden, Sweden's own count is in bad place), Croatia's and Luxemburg's unit count when placing units. Also UK and Greece unit count is in hard to read. I guess these were centered on geographically.

Got victory at the end.

Maybe add some juice to the fighting phase and moving units phase could use animation of units moving from country to other. Could use some music too!

Very interesting game, would definitely play it more after bugs have been mashed!

Neon Barrier by noagard 2023-10-03T11:37:42Z

probably a bug: on second level pressing right click removes my walls and enemies start to move through red-X-walls.

can't re-add the walls if removed them? I got was able to put wall or two and then no more, but it removed all the walls. so my wall count is less than at start.

I like the music, though it cuts of at somepoint and starts again. It's not seamless. But I like the song.

Levels are like puzzles, you need to strategize where to place them. I like it.

If you wanna work in it more, maybe add indicators how much hp each enemy has. More variety to enemies, like some fly through walls, but you would have some aerial obstacles from them. Maybe add line to show the path where the enemies move? Add some juice: particles, sound effects for example enemies exploding or hurting your main. Same with turrets and other towers.

Visuals are clear and simple and they do work well.

I think it started again at first level after completing all levels.

Nice mini TD game, could work on mobile perhaps?

Pack Your Ship by SpaceyLake 2023-10-03T09:05:12Z

I like the robot giving instructions at start, good way to make tutorial.

Maybe add hover tooltip text what items are what and info what slots are what when you hover over them.

There is no option to speed up when launched.

ohnoes.PNG I see that turrets have range, but there is no indication of it. So you kinda go blind the first playthrough. I put turrets at back and didn't have any at front. Game over, got bar to about 80% first run.

Not sure what are the green and red items? Are they both cargo?

Oh on the second try understand you can move the turrets to new places. Again game over

third run: oh the red ones are ammo for turrets, got it.

on third try one of the space pirates stays little bit too far of the ship. It doesn't attack fortunately. Got to the station! yay!

changed depleted engine to other one at the station and it started using the fuel. this was fixed by changing it again.

balancing cargo, fuel and ammo is a nice thing. Limited space theme works here really well.

Artstyle is very well done and finished. Extra particle effects do add a lot.

Music and sound effects work. Music is bit too repeating for my taste. Could be a longer track with more melodies but it is still fitting to the gameplay. Extra song when you are at station be nice. Like a change of pace when you reach it. And when action happens different song then.

Again pirate ship stays bit too far behind to the left bottom. I change turrets around to try to see if that fixes it. Turret turns towards the pirate ship but doesn't shoot it. it has ammo and ammo next to it. Pirate ship starts shooting the ship as I changed the turrets around. luckily it was at the end of the run and I reach next station.

I don't see any indication how rich I made the robot?

There is no checkpoint to restart from last station. This could be one good improvement to not get people frustrated to continue if they reached some milestone.

Lost track at what station I am. It says 6 at the top. putting little bit more cargo and leaving ammo behind. trying to balance what is needed.

Maybe add more dialog for the robot once you reach each station.

Option to buy new bigger ship could be good.

bottom left ship doesn't shoot the pirate behind left of it. top left turret does shoot it. maybe a bug?

at station 10? I get not much fuel to choose from.

after that one ship bottom left keeps shooting our turret. turret shoots it back but the pirate ship never dies.

game over after 10 was reached. Good game! Some improvements could be made here and there as earlier mentioned.

Sheep in Wolf's Clothing by ottos 2023-10-07T09:02:44Z

really nice game. love the story. nice visuals.

Could use some extra things to do, but other than that good for a gamejam!

Prickle by Kultuk 2023-10-05T19:51:20Z

love the audio sounds, silly music, animations, easy and simple to understand gameplay. What is there not to like?

Nice amount of levels. Puzzles get's harder in nice pace. Oh! and the position of the black prickle matters.

The Limited - club by jukepoks1 2023-10-03T08:27:33Z

@tayteus we would have added extra interactions, but the code turned to a sphagetti at some point trying to finish it.

So some of the time was fixing and we did add as much as we could to it. I'm really proud of our team!

The dialog system that I implemented didn't have option to add more separate dialogs currently, it would have needed more work. Level/scene changing could have been done different too, with the player moving in the levels. But again, time limit was issue to do any rework on it.

I'll do a blog post of the mechanics and a retro of the jam at some point. Source code is also available if anyone is interested!

The Limited - club by jukepoks1 2023-10-03T16:30:24Z

@davidex93 just to correct you, there were three of us. Béphane made art and music, I did writing, created a dialog system and made the scenes and sso made all the minigames(timing bar, dance-game and barman/undertale game). I couldn't have done so much work in that time alone. We have a good team!

The Limited - club by jukepoks1 2023-10-03T18:45:08Z

@mmason Thanks! D, F, J, K keys might be easier to use for it. There's multiple key mappings to choose from.

Idol Hands by MatthewDrake 2023-10-03T09:43:11Z

lol the character customization!

music is bit low, hard to turn up my speakers.

good puzzle game.

maybe add number of restarts as "tries".

also showing how many moves you needed to take could be extra challenge to minimize them.

maybe show the author's amount of moves and try to beat that or get same.

visuals are nice, very detailed. Maybe add little bit more graphics on top of the tilemap level textures, so it wouldn't look so repeating.

when moving, could make a step sound.

nice little game. If you wanna work on it more, add more storyline, extra juice(particle effects, sound effects) and more different types of cubes to move that you need to match them places.

maybe keep the character moving if holding down keys for direction.

spoilers: I like breaking reality.

when the animation started running I thought we were just getting started. I wish it were longer.

Pack for Ship by Ron88 2023-10-07T11:16:50Z

haha  funny little game.

I like the Andy-boot.

What on earth are you packing?

I wish there were easter egg for throwing objects at the dude standing there or something.

woops, broke the vodka with a bowling ball.

Starlock Defense by Tommy Moua 2023-10-05T18:35:19Z

This was really good TD! The fact you can move those ships makes it different. It's like TD and strategy game combined. Not sure how it relates to the theme, but it was fun anyway.

Scorched Asteroids! by svkj 2023-10-07T11:43:47Z

nice tank shooter game.

I like how you did the land areas and break em.

maybe add indication when turn changes. and maybe small wait time in between if actually 2 users would be playing the same game with same keyboard and mouse, you need time to switch around.

Gameplay is clear and simple to learn. though shooting could be integrated to keyboard controls maybe? Like first move to place, then turn the gun where you want.

bit more time per turn would work, but I guess it's fast paced in a sense.

MadCap (Alan the Archeologist) by Alanushke 2023-10-03T14:36:10Z

looks great!

statue.PNG isn't she beautiful?

gameplay wise the platforming is hard and you get only one chance per room.

I got one time stuck putting pieces to the statue, as I didn't have enough pieces or some run off while I was placing others.

you don't get to see the last abomination statue you made, when the menu pops up over.

Sprinttech by JanOG 2023-10-05T14:19:29Z

Here's some constructive feedback, don't take it as an insult. Your game is great, well made and deserves honest feedback. I liked playing it, but some parts could use some more play testing to make it more fun and less frustrating.

First few levels went quick. I hated the red wall that's in my arse all the time.

Some levels had too close objects, or they didn't seem to take into account the sprint speed, so I had to slow down a bit sometimes.

The warning at start when you fail is frustrating, it's taunting the player. It's not very fun. I would leave it out after first time seeing it per level or something. I did get the point, why do I have to see it again? Also it stops me from moving right from the start, it stops the gameplay that is fun. Please leave it out.

sometimes the sprint doesn't register right from the start. you have to press it again after the warning dialog goes away.

some levels don't really flow that well. It would work lot better when you could just keep the momentum going, but sometimes you have to stop, because you need to put down blocks or the next platform is too close when you sprint jump with double jump.

got to the level here it takes 90 degree turn to the right and couldn't get further sadly. got frustrated by the constant warning on my face. sorry.

There's no level counter, maybe add that too. And a option to stop the game and return to it later on that same level. maybe add a option in the main menu to choose level from the unlocked ones.

good parts: nice music, it didn't cut off between every level, but went on. good. Graphics lowpoly hands were nice. Levels were clear and simple to see and understand quickly in a fast paced gameplay. Maybe add a storyline too to keep players more interested?

I would like to see more how this evolves if you keep developing it, it has potential!

SPICE LIMITED by LePeridot 2023-10-04T09:17:55Z

I like the achievements, makes it more replayable, to try to figure them out. Also the randomly generated islands. Nice work!

Some text goes fast away. And the mouse zoom is not working very well for me on browser at least. It zooms very fast with the scroll wheel. Maybe add option to press + and - to do the zooming also. Also WASD movement is very fast, I do prefer using MMB instead, because of that. Other than that everything seems to work.

Nice Park! by Barbabulle 2023-10-03T17:12:55Z

score.PNG

I really liked this one!

Small pixelart graphics go well with the relaxed music.

Driving is natural. I like some cars are harder to drive than others. Pushing other vehicles was implemented as way to get real score too.

I was thinking if it had some kinda damage score from hitting other cars, that could be shown too. Like how fast you hit some cars, calculate velocity and damage based on that perhaps could work?

all the bits and bobs where implemented and working well: art, music, sound effects, particle effects. screenshake.

had hard time getting the monstertruck moving, but other than that it's excellent!

Luggagetris by Sooly 2023-10-05T18:48:21Z

haha funny game!

I wish there would be like breakthrough what you got on your trip. Or what you should bring t oa trip to beach or skicenter and if you bring wrong clothes, you would get funny dialogue about how having scuba-gear on a trip to ski-resort is nice idea, but you can't dive into a frozen lake.
