The gameplay is great. I like the enemy variety.
Was there supposed to be audio? I didn't hear any. If not, maybe you should opt out of that category.
Neat idea, definitely needed a bit more calibration on the balance. Movement is pretty fast for how, uh, limited the space is; the pieces aren't that limited and they probably should be; I wish they affected player and/or enemy movement too somehow. Graphics are very readable & utilitarian if a bit simple. Solid entry.
I agree with @mduo13 on the pieces, i actually thought those pieces would block enemies and would provide cover for the player at first. Turned out, it doesn't and i died pretty fast on that round hahaha
Not bad for a first game on Godot and the timescale. I think even some simple sounds would of breathed more life into it. I liked the concept for the theme and has a fun gameplay loop, nice work.
Choosing upgrades by placing buildings is a really cool idea and I'd love to play a polished game based on that concept. I'm not convinced that the fire rate upgrades do anything here though.
Love the low-color visual of it and the crisp sprites especially for the blocks and enemies. The upgrade gameplay is a bit too simple, since you can put the blocks virtually anywhere ! Having to plug blocks into each other for example would raise the need to think about your block placement. But it's still very satisfying to see your ship become more powerful.
@mduo13 There's no Audio as i did not have the Time to find/include, i just forgot to op-out when i set up the Page so thanks for the reminder.
But definitely agree on the Space not being as limited as it should, i tried limiting the Board size some more towards the end but ran into some bugs that i wasn't able to fix so i opted for the current board size as it at least worked this way. Might try and do a Post-Jam Version that fixes its balancing and expands on the game with things like some/all Blocks affecting Movement.
really great concept and implementation, a shame about the sound, id suggest having a bit higher fire rate as it is very difficult to hit the enemies, perhaps also some damage feedback so i know im getting hit, because players arent looking at the healthbar theyre focused on the main screen, overall great work!
Took a minute to get used to, but I enjoyed the game. Some old school arcade sounds would have been great. Nice job for your first time.
Interesting idea here, but it feels like the enemies move around a bit too fast. Seemed like there was a time or two where I thought I shot through the enemies.
I think controlling the ship could be a bit smoother too.
Gameplay was actually really fun and addictive, and the visuals were pretty good but I have a few gripes.
Mainly the readability. I found it way too easy for the player to get lost visually when you are trying to pay attention to everything coming after you. I think making the grid slightly opaque while the player is playing could mitigate some of that.
Enemies can also spawn kill the player. A few times during gameplay, an enemy would just pop into existence right on top of the player and kill them instantly. I think a small warning indicator a second or two before they appear would work.
The only other problem I could think of is the lack of sound, but that's not too big of a deal in a game jam. What's important is the gameplay, and the actual game here is really fun. I kinda want to see more of this at some point. Nice work.
My eyes was a bit catched in this optical illusion. Anyway, nice entry!
It's fun, but there were some minor issues. I struggles to see my shots, and there was at least one block that who's placement didn't match it's expected location. I also wan't sure at first what to do with the blocks, it might help to lock the next level button until every block has been placed or discarded. Finally enemies do far to much damage. I frequently found myself one-shot even with 20+ health.
wow this is a hard one!
those enemies move fast.
blocks doesn't block enemies or player in anyway, but gives player some stat boost.
once you are dead, it's back to the beginning. I kinda wish you would start on the level where you were on. but ok it's like permadeath. let's do this!
cant_place.PNG
for some reason can't place block there? Also figured out you can rotate those blocks.

got to wave 3. I started putting the blocks at the bottom. I kinda wish there was Tetris-like system that the blocks would disappear when placed in a row or something. also your boosts would go away or not? and placing them could be like mini tetris game. but it's a different game then I guess.
Adding sound effects and some particles would add a lot. also music. but I guess you didn't have enough time. You can use music from the internet and keep the audio rating disabled like it is, that's one option.
Simple visual, easy to understand and are clear to see. enemies move quite fast. Shooting is bit hard, as you don't always know will it hit or not. Also bullets are not instant so that needs to take into account. This game needs skill to play which is a good thing.
Maybe placing blocks in different tiles would add different boosts to them also? like extra points to health boos in top left corner for this turn, or something. Now you are just placing them block anywhere.
Tried few more times, can't get past 3rd wave. I'm bad at this. Maybe someone else is better. The difficulty ramps up very fast.
But I did like playing it. Good implementation overall. Could be expanded further definitely.
A really nice arcade-styled game here, with the potential for a lot more too. The idea's solid and execution, particularly for a jam game, is excellent. As others have mentioned, additional polish via the likes of sound, music, and additional graphical niceties (such as particle effects), as well as perhaps an increase in difficulty via a smaller play-field, or even the option to customise the size, would go a long way. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed this, great job!
It is beautiful game with fluent controls. But lacks sounds and coherence in gameplay
Neat game, although it seemed like I usually ended up losing before the grid filled up that much.
