LD37 — One room

Withstand by PaidGEEK 2016-12-12T04:26:00

Hey awesome movement mechanics! Took me a while to realize why the enemies were spawning on the roof, but once I got it the game got a lot more interesting. The random floor boards popping up was a nice touch too, but they felt useless as I rarely ever ran into one. Maybe adding some intelligence to them rather than just having them pop up randomly would turn them into a more active game mechanic.

Stack Overflow by DillonEA 2016-12-13T19:18:00

Wayy too confusing. I figured out how to play after a while, but there's just way too much happening way too fast. It's overwhelming, and makes it hard to concentrate on the gameplay. You should definitely try to slow things down, at least in the beginning so people understand how the game works.

Other than that, it's a solid concept. The audio and visuals were nice, and the rotation animation was pretty cool.

nO mooRe by frittatenbank 2016-12-13T19:54:00

I liked this one a lot. Didn't stick too much to the theme, and played more like a visual novel than a game, but it was a very well-put-together experience, and was highly enjoyable. The music and audio were amazing, and the graphics, although a tad MS-paint-ey, fit well with the overall mood.

I didn't really like the story that much though. I liked the simple, straight-to-the-point writing style, but the story itself just seemed too cheesy/overdone. "Child likes art->People don't like child->Child kills self->Parents regret."

The caveman rape was an interesting twist though, I'll give you that. Didn't see that one coming!

Good effort for 48 hours though. This is definitely one of my favorite entries with a story so far.

Firing Range Simulator by ranner198 2016-12-12T21:28:00

Hahaha that reload animation is awesome! Not bad for a first game, and I liked how you even made it so that walking into the exit takes you to the menu. Nice attention to detail. Like Leeman said though, the mechanics aren't that great. Still, it's a good base to build upon if you want to keep working on it.

Recyclinator by ThatSnillet 2016-12-13T20:58:00

Cool building style-gameplay idea! The only thing that killed it for me was the poor physics. I kept buying expensive things, but they kept clipping through the floor, never to be seen again.

If you work on the physics a bit, this can be a fun little game. I killed about 15 minutes on it lol

Little Knights by Serval Games 2016-12-12T18:11:00

The gameplay is not very fun, but the theme and idea is interesting. Is it even possible to kill that giant? (I tried many times and failed many times)

The walking sound effect is very annoying by the way. Also, a lot of grammatical errors in the dialogue.

If you improve the combat and add more content, power ups or something, and you could have a solid game. I really liked the idea of the kids playing in one room but imagining a whole adventure.

ClutterRunner by Mik3 2016-12-12T17:58:00

Cool idea! Very confusing though. Flipping the screen was really disorienting because it flipped the camera vertically, so whatever you were looking at suddenly disappears for a split second. Maybe if you rotated the camera horizontally instead, it would be less disorienting (unless that's what you were going for)

Music and/or sound effects would've been a nice touch too.

A Fortress Of Ash by C98k 2016-12-14T03:48:00

Furthest I got was day 26. That sanity meter is insane. Once it gets low it's almost impossible to bring it back up. Very difficult game indeed. Better instructions would've saved me the trouble of losing a couple of times before I could figure out how everything worked. Overall though, it was a solid game and I had a pretty good time.

There was one thing I didn't like though, that absolutely killed the game for me: those damn rats ;P Apparently, those stupid rats don't need to breathe oxygen or worry about fire, but have no trouble stealing my food.

I liked it. Nice job!

Solitude (VR) by neon 2016-12-15T19:05:00

Very chill experience! Nice to see another VR game in this compo :D

The graphics and overall presentation were great, and that drawing mechanic was interesting. I think it'd be a cool concept to play around with in a game scenario, something like what Tifu suggested with combining elements, but also maybe to use like a tower-defense type of thing.

That would kind of kill the chill though :P

Escape The Room by egordorichev 2016-12-14T15:08:00

Not bad, I love these type of text mode adventure games. Only thing I didn't like is that it was much too simple. Just find the key and go back to the starting point, which was super easy since the shop gave you everything you needed to win, and the important items (like the key finder and master key) were really cheap. Maybe if you added some enemies or a time limit, it'd be more difficult.

VaporArenaWave クール by Tilemapping 2016-12-12T23:54:00

SICK AESTHETICS BRO. This is awesome lol. Gameplay gets a little bland after a while, but the audio and visuals are awesome. The rmb attack seems pointless though as it doesn't do damage, but it does produce some nice beats when you spam it.

Portal Hotel by ezolotko 2016-12-12T17:40:00

Lol this is probably the complete opposite of "one room", but still cool. I loved the creepy mood, and the music/sfx really helped sell that. I died a few times before giving up, so I'm not sure if there's an ending or not. But if you want to continue working on this, I think you should try to add some clear goal so the player knows they're not running around endlessly.

Feng Shui Deathmatch VR by Alex 2016-12-12T03:04:00

Ugh, just noticed I uploaded a glitched build where the victory logic is broken. Not going to get past the first round, but at least the gameplay still works!

Feng Shui Deathmatch VR by Alex 2016-12-12T21:05:00

Aww sucks to hear some of you can't run it. If anyone else has that problem, can you let me know why that is? Like your GPU and OS version (ex: GTX970/Win10 64bit), error(s) you get, etc.

ALSO, added a youtube video + better screenshots for those of you who can't play but are still curious ;)

Feng Shui Deathmatch VR by Alex 2016-12-16T18:52:00

You need to have a virtual reality headset to play it, like the HTC Vive and maybe the Oculus Rift. If you have an 820M, then I'm assuming you don't have one since that's a mobile GPU which doesn't support VR, unfortunately.

atomic-swerve by atomic_swerve 2016-12-13T20:32:00

Some instructions would've been nice. Took me a while to figure out what to do, especially because clicking the game window didn't seem to do anything, and pressing space would send my browser scrolling down, making me think it wasn't even focused/accepting input.

I still don't entirely get how it works. I think I'm just supposed to kind of click around one of the squares to make it move in a somewhat arbitrary direction, but I do know that making them collide gives me points. However, I really don't have to do anything after clicking once since I can just leave it running in the background forever to get unlimited points. There's no way to lose.

Music was interesting though, and the art style was nice and simple.

Mind Over Munitions by Bensonance 2016-12-14T15:25:00

Awesome!! That's a really great idea for a gameplay mechanic, and I feel like it could lead to some really satisfying trick shots if you work on it a little more. The collision detection seems really awkward, so the game is less about aiming intuitively, and more about trying to keep aiming in the general direction you think should work, and waiting until the red line pops up. Not great and defeats the purpose of aiming.

Also, adding the ability to reflect the shots off of walls or other obstacles/enemies (or penetrate multiple enemies) could add more depth to it, and keep it from getting dry after like the 5th room.

Besides the gameplay, the graphics and animations were all very nice.

I'd definitely be interested in seeing this game polished up some more and completed. Definitely has potential!

Remote Operations Team - Tactical Extraction Action by HuvaaKoodia 2016-12-15T18:47:00

Great game! Difficulty might need some tweaking though. This first two non-tutorial missions were too easy, and the last one with the laser sheep was really hard.

Game mechanics were great though, and I feel like this has a lot of potential if you continue to work on it.

RoomOut by Greemax 2016-12-14T16:27:00

I tried to figure out what to do, but everything was too cryptic and awkward (took me a while to figure out how to close the safe view). I think I figured out which robot is lying, but the messages they both gave me are seemingly useless (and unless I missed a hidden button, the only way to see the other robot's message is to restart the game). I clicked on everything I saw to see if I got more clues, but nope. Maybe I'm just not good at these type of games. Ended up just trying to guess the combination to the safe, with no success.

Graphics were blurry when fullscreen, which was necessary for me to be able to read the neighbor's house numbers (maybe add more contrast to the numbers).

Overall, I didn't like this one very much. The controls were wonky and felt broken, making it a pain to play through, and made me much less interested in putting forth the high amount of effort needed to decipher the overly-cryptic clues.

BUT, on a positive note, having cryptic clues is a good way to make the game difficult and interesting, and set yourself apart from other escape the room type games. If you manage to fix all the annoying little control awkwardness/issues, improve the graphics, and add more clever clues (like the lying robot one), you could have a good game here.

Ultra Violet Humanoids by seano 2016-12-12T19:02:00

Like the style. Gameplay is a little imprecise, not very fun but interesting. The music and graphics fit together nicely to add a very cool, dark feel to it.

sweet dreams... by Jan Peter (jpdev) 2016-12-14T18:45:00

Creepy stuff man, lol. I liked the spider AI which didn't just blindly walk in a straight line towards the sleeping person.

Don't know what the purpose of the point system was for, since I could still shoot endlessly even when I got to negative points. Maybe I didn't play enough, but I didn't see any end-goal in sight. Maybe add different waves to break up the gameplay into chunks.

Lust for Gold by ISG 2016-12-20T17:34:00

The sound effects made this one for me lol. At first I was confused, wondering why the hell my guy would fall upwards when I pressed space, but when I put on my headphones I heard what was happening and instantly understood what was going on! ;P

Gameplay and graphics are nothing spectacular, but the music and sound effects are great. Didn't notice any strong theme elements though.

UZI DUDE by qristofer 2016-12-14T18:27:00

WinAPI? Why would you do that to yourself?! Just use SDL like a normal person!

Seriously though, props for going the hard route. Impressive work for 48 hours. However, I did have a good chuckle when I saw "2 h left time to design the game.... ;-;"

Graphics were great, audio would've been nice, and the gameplay was...acceptable. Graphics though made up for it in my opinion. I love that super low-res style.

The Infinity Prison by Multiplexor 2016-12-12T19:00:00

Awesome!! This is incredibly well made, especially for 48 hours. It's got a story, it's got cutscenes, it's got innovative gameplay elements, and it's fun! The only thing I didn't really see it had was the theme (unless I missed it)

I could totally see this becoming a successful mobile game as-is! Just throw some ads in there ;P

Royal Rise (Online Multiplayer) by thebrickanator 2016-12-15T19:19:00

It's a simple idea, but I like that you made it multiplayer. Also, the graphics and sound are very nice, and overall it's a very polished game. It'd be funner if more people were actually playing though, but I did manage to play against someone!

Don't see how to relates to the theme though.

Mega Mecha Control Room by rburema 2016-12-12T18:17:00

Great Idea! The gameplay had so much potential to be fun, but the game could easily be played by just jumping up and down on the missiles. I didnt really have to move the robot. If it had more attacks/mechanics it would have been really fun.

Good Job!

ConQuest by bentglasstube 2016-12-15T18:25:00

I wasn't expecting much going in to this because of the screenshots, but this game was hilarious. Definitely one of the most original ones I've played so far!

Also, admit it: The rock paper scissors game is rigged isn't it? Arm wrestling was easy, connect 4 was extremely hard, but winnable. But rock paper scissors is completely unwinnable!

We Must Protect Lich House! by madjackmcmad 2016-12-14T17:22:00

Hahaha lmao this game is ridiculous. There are some serious balancing issues in here, and those poor, foolish heroes have suffered greatly because of it. At one point I gained enough money in a single wave to spawn 20 destroyer of mens. I quit after that point because the game would crawl to under 1 FPS with all of the projectiles and enemies on-screen.

With that said, it's hella fun. If you could fix those balancing and performance issues, add some music, and maybe mouse aiming for those without controllers (like me; 8-direction aiming with the keyboard isn't that great), you'd have a real gem on your hands.

Maybe add some restrictions on tower placement, because the easiest way to become overpowered is to spam a bunch of towers in a cluster together. Since the enemies can only kill one tower at a time, getting attacked by twenty at the same time pretty much guarantees they won't make any progress. Maybe make the enemies stronger too.

Definitely one of may favorite entries so far! Great work!

Swanky Otter Soccer by hijomo 2016-12-15T17:08:00

Hell yes. This is exactly what I look for in a game. Kicking around swanky otters? There's no greater thrill.

Spell Bear by torcado 2016-12-15T02:17:00

Really nice game. Everything fits together perfectly. The only thing bad thing I saw is just that it got too easy after a while, and it became pointless to keep playing once all the upgrades were unlocked. Of course, that's to be expected from a 48 hour game.

Awesome job!

Rworld by blackbird806 2016-12-15T18:55:00

Very nice graphics for the characters and background, and the gameplay is interesting. The camera was really annoying though, because it wouldn't follow the character all the way, so ended up being off-screen and, well, that was annoying. I got to like the 3rd level before I rage quit lol. It was hard, but still pretty fun. It's just that there is only one mechanic so far, and that gets boring quickly. You should maybe think about adding more hazards, enemies, moving platforms, etc. to make things more exciting.

Also, the controls were super awkward. Why W and X? That makes no sense.

CrateBlaster by Bacontree 2016-12-12T17:51:00

Nice graphics, and I liked the relatively unique spin on the "snake" gameplay. Some music and sound effects would've been nice though, even if they're just bfxr/sfxr sounds. Combined with the motionless camera, the overall mood suffered, in my opinion.
