@peringo Is this is our pumpking?
Honestly, this was a really great game and fun to play! Well done.
Wow, that's one the best game I played so far! Very nice graphics and audio! Interesting take on the concept, balancing protecting the crops from crows and from your own attacks. Really good work guys!!!
Best game so far. Nice idea and great execution, well done!
Extremely polished game! Superb audio, nice graphics, and nice gameplay. One of the better submissions I've played so far!
Great game! I love myself a good fast paced hack n' slash.
One of the best games of this jam so far.
No, YOU are awesome!
Very solid game. I guess the best I played so far. You incorporated the theme creatively. Maybe one improvement could be a custom mouse pointer that can be easily seen on the screen, so players can better see in which direction they will slash. Or the character could look in the direction of the mouse or something like that. Great job :)
The best game i have tested so far. Amazing game. Fantastic work :)
wooooow...so fun !!! I did it 2 times in full to get a better score. The second time it was easier because I understood that it was enough to let these stupid crows kill each other! ^^ Thank you for this game =) Capture d’écran 2023-01-10 193543.png (Who can do better!?)
Fantastic entry! The movement and combat feel very satisfying. The day/night mechanic combined with the upgrade system plays very nice together as well.
Nice game! I like the art and especially the player character's animations. I found rolling with space bar to be much easier than using the mouse for that move.
Incredibly satisfying. Cutting stuff felt good, so good in fact that I spent the first round running around ignoring the crows and harvesting my own unripe green sprouts lol Honestly, I don't know what physics model you used for the crops, but it's just, oomph, chef's kiss.
I appreciated the implementation of "stamina", too, since it allows for more strategizing during combat instead of mindless button-mashing. A beautiful entry all around.
For sure the most fun game i played so far, Awesome pixel art, aesthetics & mood! Loved the physics in the harvest.
So addictive! The combat and harvesting are very satisfying :D
Impressive game!
my score : 30250
The spritework and polish of the game is incredible! Wow! Was this really made in only 3 days?! Holy heck! Amazing game, and super fun too!
Very cool entry! Combat was tricky but fairly smooth. Music was incredible, and the audio implementation was top notch! Very nice visuals as well.
Extremely impressive what you accomplished in such a short time. Probably the best music/audio I`ve seen in any entry so far, its so tough to get that right but you did! What I like as well is that the game teaches you patience, you cant brute force the enemies in the beginning. Would have loved to play more, which says it all.
Really good entry ! Love the graphics and music. The gameplay is a bit hard to master but pretty cool. Overall really enjoyed playing. Congrats !
Nice little game you made I'm not very good at it. but it was fun. I keep trying to fight people in one spot so that I don't waste the harvest and then I die. The art is nice I like that it waits to ring the bell before attacking you it makes it much more assessable for people like me (my reflexes are eh.). The pumpkin guy is cute, and it didn't randomly turn into a horror game so that's a plus.
Thanks for the fun game.
this feels like a demo for a finished game already :D really well polished, incredibly smart mechanic with harvesting the same crops you've been cutting down when fighting the crows. A+++
Oh my goodness, that was great! Funnest game I've played, seriously ()! Beautiful balance between simplicity and polish with the graphics, audio, gameplay, all of it was perfectly done to make every round satisfying to complete! The harvest always felt well earned and amazing to cut through, I loved all the little particles, the bobbing of the plants, the sound effects of your money skyrocketing; really really well made entry, I loved it!
My only report is, the UI seems to stay/stack after restarting the game, so everytime I go through there's the menu text, tutorial text (etc.) on my screen, which made it *a little* annoying to try again, but that's small enough that it didn't effect my opinion on the game! In my three or so attempts, I got a score of 12070, which is probably stupidly small, but hey, I liked what I tried! :3
The gameplay loop is perfect. I really love it. Especially the harvest of after killing the enemies is fantastic, a great feeling to eared that way.
It is pretty hard for me but, I'm bad in 1 hit kill games. So maybe something to parry would be nice?
I was playing manly with keyboard and mouse and was wondering if you could ring the bell also with the hit of the scythe?
My favorite game so far. Great sound, music, graphics and mood. Very good game loop switching between combat, harvesting and upgrading. Everything looks very professional and could easily be made into a full game. Amazing job all over, you should be proud.
This game has it all: thick athmosphere with eerie music, meticulously crafted sounds and music, gorgeous pixel art with lots of special effects, and a simple yet challenging premise. If I had to criticize anything: Some of the fires seem to have been placed behind their columns, which I didn't even realize during gameplay but while standing still. My definitive favourite for this LDJAM!
This game is beautiful. It feels really complete and the combat has sufficient depth to have something to enjoy! I really liked that everything takes place only on a single map and your characters position is in regards of gameplay and interacting with skills, starting the round, battling and even finishing the battle to start harvesting all the time of the essence.
Well done!
Wow this is such a lovely game! It's astonishing to me what you managed to bring together in such a short period. The gameplay itself is fun and versatile, but I'm also impressed by all the animations and effects you implemented (idk im just fascinated by the field turning green every round ). I was only a little bit confused that it seemed like letting the crows kill each other is the easiest way to defeat them :joy:
BROOOO, this game is **astounding!** The pixel art, the animation, the vfx; the gameplay mechanics; and the music/sfx which plays **accordingly** with what is happening in the game!! **WOW!**
And I really want to know how to do the **bushes movement** as you pass through them.
The only problem I've had is that the **title gets stuck** on the screen if you ring the bell before it gets out: imagem_2023-01-14_202717008.png
This game is gorgeous. Very fun. Nice music.
Good job. Everything from the graphics to the audio to the gameplay is exceptionally good for a jam game.
Good job with the game. The art was very nice looking and worked well with the game and the music sounded great. I really liked the attack upgrades which made for a cool form of progression. I liked the combat feel especially once you got the upgrades, but it did feel like the stamina system for attacks slowed down combat a bit and resulted in some moments of "wait why cant I swing". This was most noticeable during the harvest phase and tended to feel a bit frustrating waiting to recharge since it is only active for a short period. I did like the dynamic of trying to avoid damaging the crops but it did tend to feel like I could fight on one side of the map then walk over to the untouched side before killing the last enemy. It was pretty satisfying to spin though all the crops when you unlocked it. Overall though this is really well done and definitely one of my favorites so far this jam.
Wow, this is just incredible. The music, the graphics, the gameplay, the gameplay loop — everything is so polished!
Absolutely love attention to small details, the grass, the animations, the sounds... Flawless work!
Wow, the game is tight!
I always struggle with the control scheme where the character does action in the direction of the mouse cursor, so I quite often ended up not where I thought I would end, lol.
But the controls themself are very responsive, I liked that a lot. Along the sound design, music and general gameplay loop. It's all very solid and engaging. The crows hitting each other is an amusing mechanic, too.
Though, the only criticism I would probably have is that the progression (=money farming) feels kinda slow. I was at my 12th season and still couldn't get at least 1 buff at max level. Of course, maybe I'm just bad at this, but well :D
@nicekot Thanks for playing and for your kind words! You can use the J/K keys instead of the mouse if you're finding it difficult to control, or you can use a controller. Also the game only goes up to 10 seasons, and you make money by cutting the field after killing the birds (you should be able to get between $100-200 each harvest - just try not to cut the field before it grows!). If you did indeed make it to season 12 please let me know as I'll have to dig into how that happened!
@almax oh, apparently I died on season 10 and read it wrong, lol. Sorry for confusing you.
Few times I got even $300+ but had to spent all of them on lives. So yeah... It's just me being not very good at the game.
@miltonnh25 Thanks for playing! I was hesitant about the stamina system too, but felt it added more tactical choice to the combat in the end. We do have a subtle sound play when you try to attack/roll without stamina, but perhaps it's not obvious enough. Have you played games like Dark Souls or Skyrim? Do you find you have the same issue with them?
As for the crops, I totally agree. We wanted to have the enemies target the crops, start fires and generally give the player more of a reason to move around the map but the AI was one of the last things to come together and I wanted to make sure the combat loop was tight rather than adding more complexity to it. Definitely something I want to explore in a post jam update though if we do one!
I did not notice the sound for it when I originally played which probably would have helped communicate it. Also playing through it again I think part of why I felt slowed things down was the fact that early on, you are not really able to chain kills together without waiting for the stamina to recharge. Since each of the birds take three hits to kill and your base stamina is five it felt pretty common to kill one, try and kill another close by and then just not quite have enough to kill it which kills the flow a bit. I feel like having more stamina overall with a longer recharge might feel a bit better since it gives you a bit more freedom to jump in, kill a few birds, and jump out. It also might feel more satisfying to give the player unlimited stamina when harvesting at the end of the round. To me it felt like the game was encouraging me to go quick and constantly attack to get as many of the crops as possible but doing so very rapidly depletes your stamina and forces you to stop. Also I have not personally played much of DS or Skyrim so I cant comment much on them. Also I would love to see a post jam version of the game, especially with how good the game is already.
Not sure how you achieved this level of polish in 3 days, so good job. The game looks amazing with great music and sound effects and it's fun on top. I found a small bug in the WebGL version; if you ring the bell before the logo has fully faded it will stay up until the game is restarted. Ofc there are a couple things that could be improved, like the raven AI, but overall this is one of the best entries ive played this year.
@metzkermeister Thanks! Trust me, it came in very hot  we almost didn't have a working AI. The trick is to polish as you go, but the risk is you run out of time to get critical features working. It's a hard balance to strike!
A few people have encountered that bug and I am thinking of doing a post jam build with bug fixes and new content, but I'd like people to judge what we made in the scope of the jam for now
Great game! loved the music and visuals, very polished! 👍 If you're curious, this is was my experience with it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnWqmLOzSps
@philstrahl I watched the stream! Thank you so much for playing, I'm really happy you enjoyed my music 😊
this game is really fun to play! i like the concept of having 3 different "times" (upgrade, fight, harvest) and a different way to go from one to the other (respectively ring the bell, kill all enemies, end of timer). art and music were very nice, controls were super responsive, animation of wheat in the field is great… really had fun, would certainly play again!
This is a really bad game... Because of one reason only and that is, that it has an ending! You seem to work like a great cohesive unit, good job! Everything is great, and the game deserves a big chefs kiss! *MUAH*

Game was so funn, one feedback: I wish we could be immune to enemy attacks when we are using our most powerful attack. (spin attack) otherwise it feels a bit useless because we die instantly. Other than that, art, music and gameplay was so good!
Wow! This entry is really great! Very polished for a jam game! The audio, art, animations and effects are great! It would be cool to be able to repel the birds attack with your scythe if you hit the projectiles.
Wow how did i miss this one until now? Such a beautiful and polished game for a jam. Well done!
This is one of my favorite entries in the jam! Wonderful visuals, satisfying effects, the SFX are crisp and fitting without gaps, and the music is chill and spooky. Simple upgrades and gratifying harvesting mechanics make this an easy one to pick up, but the actual difficulty was not to be scoffed at. If there was a win condition, I did not reach it! Whirling through the field and reaping all that sweet wheat felt very good. I wish that some of the obstacles that block movement would block the crows magic projectiles, as it felt a little unfair at times.
This just blew me away with the level of polishing, graphical quality, lovely map design etc. I did not ger very far yet, as the difficulty is quite high, but it seems to manageable with some more practice. Will play this again later.
The only negative point was the "title text not going away" bug that some others also reported. In case you did not know: fixing bugs like this after the deadline is explicitly allowed by the rules (a bit hard to find since I think there are multiple different rules pages), so you don't have to wait and make a post-jam version for that. As another technical note: the game does not execute right away on MacOS, because the actual binary inside the application package lacks the “exectutable” flag. You can add it from the command line using `chmod +x ./Harveyster\ MacOS.app/Contents/MacOS/Harveyster`. (This seems to be a common problem with that version of Unity? Just had the same problem with another Unity-Game, "Verdant".)
After that, you still have to overcome the MacOS security hurdles, as with nearly every indy game: double click, receive an error message, go to Security settings, enter system password, allow app execution, then try again.
@lenaschimmel thanks for the kind words and the heads up on the bug fixing. I tried to avoid fixing anything after the submission from a purest point of view - i.e. the game represents something made in 72 hours, warts and all.
Unfortunately I didn't have a Mac to test on and trusted Unity to publish correctly on Windows. It may be an issue with file permissions not being set if not built on a mac perhaps?
You have the same security issue when building anything from source on windows too thanks to binary signing.
I'm working on some bug fixes this evening and will up load a build tonight or tomorrow :)
I love pumpkin. If you are a gaming enthusiast, you cannot ignore [Sonic exe](https://sonicexe.io). It is a game genre adapted from cartoon characters, maybe you will say it
