This was super fun, the graphics are great. It felt like a combination of super crate box and inside out. I couldn't read the labels on the bins and it was hard to tell exactly what the sounds meant. Still really addictive and the random thoughts made me laugh.

binaryprinciple 2021-10-03 22:29

@liammasters thanks for been the first person to play it! Glad you had some fun with it. I was afraid about the Font, but the labels are: Anger (red), Fear (Orange), Happiness (Green) and Sadness (blue). It should reproduce a sound for the "ticking pipe about to explode", the explosion, and the bottom is the subconscious, so they make a sound because they dissapeared. Oh and those random thoughts,... yeah tried to find some fun ones.

munkkeli 2021-10-04 08:36

Nice game! Gameplay was fun, although it took a while to get a hang of it. Music was really nice too. Some of the text did cut off for me too tough, but it did not affect gameplay that much. Many, many humorous texts were a fun addition

binaryprinciple 2021-10-04 23:36

@munkkeli glad you liked it! Mmmm, the sides are cut off? Did you played it on Full screen? otherwise you get that effect. I'm working on fixing that.

alec 2021-10-05 00:10

I appreciate the thought you put into all of the text bubbles. The concept fits the theme great and I enjoyed the graphics a lot.

It was a bit difficult for me to get the hang of jumping, which made it difficult to maneuver around the levels at first.

Overall, you have created an enjoyable gameplay experience. Nice work!

javicoder 2021-10-05 00:18

It was not easy to adapt emotional instability to a mechanic in a game, good job! It reminds me of the movie the pixar, inside out haha. The control does not convince me at all, I think it needs more agility, but in general everything is very well done, with beautiful graphics and good sound.

polkoii 2021-10-05 00:21

Just like some others said, it does get cut off when you fullscreen. Nice concept! It has some tight gameplay but it has a clear goal! Just not that sure how I am supposed to keep the pipes from being destroyed when I do not control when the thoughts drop. Though overall, solid work!

tcastillo 2021-10-05 03:40

man, i must just really suck at this game. i wish that he could jump just a little higher. I kept getting stuck at the lower levels. I love the concept of this game, but I just really sucked at it. I tried many times. It would be nice if he jumped a bit higher and could throw a little further. I was playing on the keyboard so that might have been my issue. Really creative idea here though!

diego-escalante 2021-10-05 03:44

Good, fast-paced and hectic! Which pipe do I throw my stress into? :) Jokes aside, there's surprisingly quite a lot in this game! I found the controls to be a little clunky, especially when trying to pick up and drop thoughts, but you put in a lot of detail with Mike's thoughts, the dialogue of the player, and the animated 3D environment. So aside from my struggles trying to pick up and drop off things, I think it's a well-rounded and impressive game. Nice work!

cottontshirtz 2021-10-05 03:50

MI mostly ended up just babysitting one pipe, as trying to maintain all of the pipes didn't seem like a good strategy. I figured there would be some downside, but there wasn't one. What about just an end of level score? Graphics were good!

binaryprinciple 2021-10-05 03:55

Thank you everyone for your feedback! Really appreciate taking the time to play my game and leave very strong and objective comments that help me find how to improve it.

@alec Glad you liked it! It was my first time setting up double jump, maybe next time I simplify it and avoid the mechanics I added to it (timers, button pressed).

@javicoder Glad you enjoyed and thanks for the kind words. I won't lie, inside out was an inspiration LOL. Yeah controls could have been smoother, guess is one of the risks of play testing alone, you get use to it. Next time I get more testers. BTW your game was very stylish!

@polkoii Thanks! Well, the idea is that you can only control where the toughts go, since Mike is a little unstable.... I thought of maybe adding a hint of what thought is coming next in line.

@tcastillo Hope you had a better time with it. Just FYI, have you tried to double jump? I think one of the issues might be having a small separation among platforms.

@diego-escalante Thanks a lot! Sorry you got a bit frustrated but I appreciate the feedback a lot. It's my first platformer, and well, I will keep working on the mechanics of it. I adjusted a 3D controller I made and had to do some fixes. Thanks for acknowledging the art and animation, it's been my main struggle since I'm no artist.

binaryprinciple 2021-10-05 04:07

@cottontshirtz Thanks for the feedback! I think you unlocked a way of playing it  Good idea adding a score... like a report at the end of each level.

katanoueki 2021-10-05 08:26

Interesting interpretation of the theme! I couldn't really read the text because everything was so hectic, and the controls were on the slippery side. I think having a larger hitbox for picking up the emotions would make the game more manageable and allow me to read the text a bit better. Good job overall though! Just needs a bit of polish.

ludokultur 2021-10-05 09:02

Very cute, felt a bit like a non-combat re-imagining of Super Crate Box! Just the movement controls were a bit too slidey for my taste, but good job nonetheless! :)

mejzlosh 2021-10-05 10:05

Sweet! its a nice experience to play it for a while, in the long run I did not have much motivation to continue

louiejams 2021-10-05 13:33

Very cute little idea! Loved the encouraging comments! You can do it Mike!

pdotjpg 2021-10-05 17:10

Nice! Cool theme and gameplay mechanic - I don't think I've played anything quite like it. Nice presentation too - good sound and graphics, clear visual language that goes well with the mechanics. Only the controls are a bit finnicky. I would have liked a more powerful jump, and catching emotions feels a bit unreliable (even if there's an arrow above them). But overall, great job.

reccy 2021-10-05 19:47

This is a fun interpretation of the theme, I sadly wasn't able to save Mike's sanity but I hope he's doing ok! The art was cute, had a kind of claymation look to it, and the background music was nice too - it didn't get too repetitive. I think the core gameplay idea is good, it just needs some tweaking around the controls. I think removing the double jump would simplify the game a bit, since I felt like I needed to double jump up a floor and across gaps anyway? Also it felt like I was sliding around a bit too much. Outside of some tweaking though, I think this was a really good entry. Good job!

myles-doupe 2021-10-06 04:07

I had trouble seeing the containers on one PC, so couldn't really play it there. But I was able to play on another PC where it worked. I found the controls a bit difficult. I think it would have been much better feeling if one jump moved up one level. Also, the hit boxes for picking up the little dudes seemed a bit finicky. Other than that, it's a good game. Clear objectives (when you can see them), a fairly consistent style. Keep it up!

n00begon 2021-10-06 05:10

This has great personality with the thoughts that pop up. It did a good job of capturing that interview stress! I think making the jump bigger instead of having a double jump would help simplify the gameplay and let the player concentrate on the goal. Cool being a positive force inside a brain wrapper on a platformer.

binaryprinciple 2021-10-08 01:01

Thank you very one for the kind feedback!

@katanoueki Glad you had fun with it! Mmm, maybe I should resize the trigger box and reupload. I think is allowed since is not a new feature.

@ludokultur Thanks! I adjusted a 3d controller I made for this platformer, agree that I can keep it more tight on the sliding side.

@mejzlosh Glad you liked it! Initially the events you see on top would modify the demand on each pipe, but it might have become way to hectic.

@louiejams Thanks! I keep a light on for Mike, he needs it.

@pdotjpg Wow! that's an amazing feedback! Thanks for the kind words, I see that controls are becoming a common pain point. It's my first platformer but I appreciate how everyone is objectively giving me tips on how to fix it in the future.

@reccy Thanks! I hope Mike is doing well too, he was a bit down lately. I added a double jump to experiment but a strong jump would been more responsive. My challenge was that he was "cutting through" the platforms but I could have embrace that for easier jumps.

@myles-doupe Thanks for the feedback, now that's interesting, you had issues in one computer but another one did not? Mmm, did you expand it full screen? since is a HD resolution.

@n00begon Thanks!Like many others, I struggled with the theme, finding a new direction to take it, I thought of breaking horses on a stable, or choosing chickes in a barn, but this came to mind. Glad that it paid off, and become an interesting take on the theme.

Again, thanks everyone for your feedback, if allowed I can make some fixes and help others to improve their experience. Thanks!

myles-doupe 2021-10-08 01:14

Yes. The PC that worked was 1440p, while the one that did not was 1080p.

binaryprinciple 2021-10-08 01:16

@myles-doupe now that's interesting... I will look into it.

shellofagirl 2021-10-08 01:45

i love the art and direction of the theme, obviously :3

fakefirefly 2021-10-08 03:33

A themed take on a collect-athon. The graphics were nice and the quips from the character were neat. Making the levels timed was an interesting twist, as the player doesn't need to keep all the emotions alive.

I wish there was more of a detriment to losing one of the emotions, like screen distortions as the character's psyche becomes more unstable. The platforming experience was also a bit loose, as jumping felt a bit awkward.

I was able to beat the game though! Capture.png

pkzinpo 2021-10-08 04:15

Clean art and gameplay! Fun dialogue, though admittedly, I was more focused trying to survive so I do not think I was able to read all of them haha. I was expecting the pickup mechanic to be where you only have to be near the thought to grab it, but you have to be near and facing it. Did throw me off a good amount of times when I would thought I had grabbed it because I was close, but I forget I had to look at them. Could just be a me thing though! I think the music was great, very suitable for this game. Overall, I think this was a great job!

llaumegui 2021-10-08 08:10

It was pretty interesting, i think the game could have some polish on the platforming side as the jump feel too rough and you gain way too much velocity while moving Overall it was nice !

maximeg 2021-10-08 08:15

Cute graphics, really well polished. Love the comments.

quoc 2021-10-08 08:23

Really cool game and nice graphics. I enjoyed playing it:D

glenugie 2021-10-08 11:32

The game is good, nothing too special - but the concept, and the interpretation of the theme? It's excellent, and I really applaud you on your creativity! A few things I would suggest tightening up to give it more of a polished feel: the jump could do with smoothing out (something about it feels off), and picking up feelings felt a little imprecise (I got used to it, but it took a little while). That said, good effort - I liked what I played and I'd be interested to see how it looked with a little more time to polish it!

cabjhegas 2021-10-08 14:22

OMG! I love Inside Out and your game reminded me so much of this movie. I see so much potential there if you want to expand this project. Imagine a parallel window showing the real world in real time, so that what's happening there gives you a anticipation of which emotions will come next

wedgiebee 2021-10-08 17:10

First game where I got to play as a neuron!! Need more neuron games. First some technical difficulties: The way the game displayed in my browser cropped in such a way where it didn't show the timers on the pipes (and barely showed the pipes). This made things a lot harder to keep track of but I was still able to beat the game! When I tried to fullscreen to hopefully show the timer, the performance of the game suffered a lot and the framerate was really bad, so I un-fullscreened it.

Technical difficulties aside, I had fun! Chasing the colors was enjoyable, and the level design was nicely laid out where I felt like I was skillfully navigating the terrain to get to where I needed to go. Also enjoyed the neruon's little positive messages every now and then!

ismael-rodriguez 2021-10-09 00:31

Cute game. I like the "control your emotions" idea. The main guy reminds me of Mike Wazowski from Monster's Inc.

The physics of the platforming are a little weird, but functional. I kind of wish the screen wrapped like an old school arcade game (player exits from the right side of the screen and teleports back to the left side, kind of looping around) Transitions between levels are abrupt, and somewhat jarring, but especially anti-climactic. That's an opportunity to make the player feel really good with some kind of "daa daaaaaa" confetti and horns!

I like the smooth look of the characters, especially the emotions (the droplet cyclops' dudes). At first glance the bg looks kind of bland and boring, but with a closer look it turns out to be a neat effect; what's going on back there? Is it pre-rendered? Particles?

Overall this is a good fun entry! Good job!

solah 2021-10-10 16:26

Great game! Reminds me Pixar's Inside Out. I think it would have been fun to be able to throw the thought from one side to another so we can try to put them in the right pipe from a distance! Good job ^^

lesinvisible 2021-10-10 21:21

Very amazing game for a Compo! I liked the graphics and the fresh idea. The on;y issue I got is that the controls sometimes feel to slippery.

gorypixels 2021-10-12 09:37

Amazed that this is a Compo entry! specially the graphics are truly something else. Great job! :D

pbg 2021-10-13 17:25

Nice job! I was able to beat it, which is always satisfying in LD. The gameplay was simple, but I still enjoyed it, and the flavor text really helped to create the scenario for me. In terms of accessibility, I am colorblind, and I had a really hard time with the green and orange pipes (1st and second that you get). I would suggest skewing blue-er when possible, as blue makes it easier to differentiate some reds and greens. Otherwise, i liked this lot. Nice job!

binaryprinciple 2021-10-14 01:47

Hi! Thanks everyone for your time and feedback! Glad you had fun with my silly entry, and I feel very humble since your games are so amazing.

@shellofagirl Glad you liked it!

@fakefirefly Glad you beat it! I agree, I need to work on adding more player feedback and I like the idea of having distorsions or alusionations.

@pkzinpo Thanks! Is tricky to grab the right emotions, since they move and you have a limited "trigger box" to get them. Prioritizing whoever comes last near you.

@llaumegui Thanks! True, is my first platformer, and need more steady weight or gravity.

@maximeg Glad you enjoyed the comments! I thought it would add some personality, glad I was correct.

@quoc Nice to hear you had fun with it! Thanks for the feedback.

@glenugie Thanks for your feedback! I believe I can get these platform controls tighter, since is allowed as long no new features are added. I will give it a try and update it. I agree that it can be better regarding control.

@cabjhegas I love the idea! A realtime that shows the emotion that is coming. Originally Mike thoughts were going to impact the thought "drops" and demand of the pipes, but then it would have made it too demanding for a LD. Thanks for the feedback!

@wedgiebee Glad you like the positive messages and been a neuron! I find it weird how the Web5GL version cropped the game, since I setup the canvas and all up to 1080p, maybe next time I can make it run in a lower resolution and avoid the cropping and perfomance hit.

@solah Good idea! Like an Inside Out Basket ball... I like it! Maybe not a platformer but make it more agressive and have to play the against Mike's negativity.

@lesinvisible Glad you liked it, you game was very interesting and we both went with the idea of mental balance. I agree that the control are a bit slippery.

@gorypixels Thanks a lot! I enjoyed your game and I was impressed by the look and feel of it.

@pbg Thanks for feedback glad you like it! Oh, now this is an interesting take. You know, I thought about it a lot, adding some accesibility for color blindness, more so on a color coded game. Thanks again for the feedback, I will make sure to keep in consideration in the future. BTW, you game is really cute!

binaryprinciple 2021-10-14 01:57

@ismael-rodriguez Thanks for your feedback! First of very humble to have you giving me feedback, your games are awesome!

Funny you mentioned transitions and screenwrapping, these were darlings I had to kill to meet the time. I have a transition coded and even some slow mo for the final droplet, but for some reason it was giving a hard time, although it's a simple coroutine for some reason the timescale was not helping. The wrapping would have make it feel better. Player feedback loop is one of my biggest challenges.

About the background, I wanted to make something that looks like brain activity or neurons, so I made a shader, using a voronoi scale through time mix it with another (higher scale) but with a "negative effect". Both of them with mixed colors. My first shader using shadergraph from Unity. Glad you like it.

Again thanks for your feedback and happy you had fun with it.

ryjcio 2021-10-19 20:06

Amazing compo entry! I rly enjoyed graphics and music is just awesomely suited!

It would be nice though to have some clearer indicator when it goes so bad that I'm gonna loose.

lcstark 2021-10-21 12:08

A quite difficult platformer! I was thankful you only needed to keep one emotion to not lose, otherwise I'd be in big trouble starting at level 2. ;) The controls are a bit too floaty - quite often I found myself trying to double-jump to a higher level, but got stuck because I hit the edge of a platform. I loved the random thoughts in bubbles, though due to the hectic gameplay I usually couldn't focus on them for too long. ;)
